Beau - You may be thinking about actor/singer James Darren: http://www.jamesdarren.com   He was famous for singing such songs as 'Gidget': www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogb0k3BI7gA

The White on White song was written by Crane & Ross and made famous by Danny Williams. It reached #9 in the charts in 1969.  More about Williams: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Williams_(singer)  The song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Txk6wEbhC0

This may be the right South Coasters: http://www.southcoasters.com/TS_HTML-AllAboutUs.htm

Hope this helps.  - Steve

Many thanks, Beau, for your prodigious memory - I have to resort to Google, etc.  Also, you are the trailblazer with most of this, I just try to follow.  I can tell that this music has been part of your life for a long time.  Although I wanted to hear it, we did not have a radio at our house until I was a senior and could not use the record player or radio when the folks were at home, which was almost always. I had to wait until college to really be able listen to popular music and by then it was getting to be a different era.

Thanks again.

Hi, All.

Those of you that are “Tuesday Night Fuddruckers” and “Clay’s Dwellers” may have heard that Richard and I are getting married. Well, you heard right! Saturday, March 9th (yes, it is THIS year). We are  shooting for 1:00 p.m. at Oaks Presbyterian Church on Chantilly. Right across the street from Black Jr. High. (I know it is a middle school, but it just doesn’t sound right… Black Middle School)

Now you might have heard that awhile back Richard and I got ourselves put into Wholly Macaroni over in the State of Confusion by the celebrated Bro Beau officiating. Many were in attendance.  Thank you to those who held us in place....( you know who you are so don't try to deny it  !!!) Thank you Mr. J. Sheffield for hosting the festivities at the Clays Pavillion and  Bar.

For those of you who missed the opportunity at Clay’s to just downright laugh out loud and hoot and holler and do other hi-jinks AND for those who would like to join us because there will be cake and coffee (ok, we’ll get some Hawaiian Punch, too) … Come on !!!

Your Friendly Waltripians,

Richard Meek and Pirate Paige

                                        J. Paige Carter

and

Richard Carter Meek

Request the honor of your presence

at the celebration of their marriage

Saturday, the ninth of March

Two thousand and thirteen

At one in the afternoon

Oaks Presbyterian Church

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Steve, thanks for the compliment.  Music was a major part of my life towards highschool and till bout 10 years ago...now, not so much...it all sounds like noise now. Oh, I can pick out the melody, and a few words, but I find that family and friends are more important to me now than anything. Like all the good folks I spent 12 years in school with...those on the forum, and at fudds...nothing better than that! ! !

Like you, Steve, I was not in control of the RCA Victrola...we had a big one, that we listened to THE LONE RANGER, Lum and Abner, Fiber Magee and Molly and Innersanctum, The Shadow etc...Mom or dad picked out whatever music we were to listen to, whatever they listened to. Which I liked then, as well as now...Big Band, classical and opera...I really like opera, cause you generally dont know the melody, and dang sure dont know the woids, so I'm not sitting there going, "what is the name of that tune" , and trying to sing along!

I remember in 53, when Little richard came out with "TUTTI FRUITI"!! We were on our way to Little Rock, to visit my grandparents. Dad drove at night because we had no airconditioning in the 51 ford, or 53 chevy. At least I think the year was 53. I remember that song came on, and my dad just about had a stroke.  We musta heard that song a dozen times that night. To tell yoou the truth, I had never heard that kind of music before, at least dont recollect it, and I thought that ol boy Little Richard had a nervous breakdown. Didnt really know what to make of it. My dad hated it, so I tried hard to hate it. Didnt woik! ! !

The saddest and loneliest song I remember was "CANADIAN SUNSET" I think by the Ames Brothers...seems like we always heard it on the road just about the time the sun was sinking into the pacific. Always made me feel soooo sad and blue, and I was only 7 or 8 years old.

I made a crystal radio set out of a cardboard tube from a roll of toilette paper, and a crystal and a sewing needle and some other stuff, but cant quite recollect just what all I used. You wrapped bare copper wire around the whole length of the tube, and put a coat of shellac on it to keep it from unraveling. I mounted it all in a cigar box. I would fall asleep at night listening to far away radio stations and "white noise". Maybe thats why my brain is so warped today..."subliminal cuts"!

Got my first shortwave set sometime back in the 50s. A hallicrafters receiver only. I loved that radio, had one huge round dull silver tuning knob, that took up half the front of the radio, and a small one for volume. Man, that thing was cool. Thought I was "buck rogers" with that radio.

Ah yes, the simple things were so wonderful way back then. Kindof long for those simple days sometimes. Oh, I like the amenities of AC and indoor plumbing and liked TV for a while. But, as I said, you good folks are whats most important to me now. I love it when someone ELSE posts, other than me. I like hearing about all yall, and looking at everyones pictures. Steves relationship with Mr Roth was great to hear about. I never viewed any teacher as being a friend. I sure missed out didnt I! ! !

What a nice day it was...for a duck...a couple of odd ducks like me and Cooper! Walked all the dogs twice today, and it was raining all 6 times, and cold. Just got finished walking Cooper...again. He is acting goofier again...I had to come upstairs to whirld headquarters central, to get some piece and quiet and to get away from the cats and both dogs wanting to crawl all over me. Now cooper is upstairs with me, which is unusual, cause he doesnt like it upstairs...I gguess it's the haints...He just cant get settled...keeps laying down, first in this spot, and then in that spot...been all over the office, and still cant get settled. I wonder if he knows something I dont.

Guess I will try to take him downstairs and put him to bed..try to put him to bed...he already woke Diane up barking at ???? at what, I dont know what, and I wonder if he knows...ok, he's down...oops, he's up again...guess I will sign off for now. Looking forward to Fudds tomorrow. Should be a beautiful sunny day.

keep the sun at your six, (it's midnight 30, aint no sun) and ride boldly ride...
your friend and resident odd duck...JabberWrockey

Thanks for the encouragements. Burge, have you been flying with me and now telling my pilot in command tricks.??? I doubt that Richard would put his life in my hands in an airplane. In fact, he wonders everyday and says out loud...

"WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO"  i suspect he'll find out soon enough.

So I'm off back to work and to strike off a wedding something from the list, as well.

Paige

Burge and Jackie, thanks for your good wishes. We hope you both can make to the wedding. We hope that all of you who come to the Forum will attend . The invitation was genuine. It will be a show you won't forget. Where else can you go to a little country church in the city and attend a wedding with a midget groomsman and a midget bridesmaid. With Duke of DuBarry playing music and snapping pics. Think about it.

See you there,

Rich LH

Keep on dancing

yeeek! a wedding......way to go you two.  Congratulations on in order .....you certainly have mine!

Well, I've seen Tony Maddox....trying out work at TPF Ace Hardware in lovely Navasota....he never stops working, and can just do about anything.  I, on the other hand, grew continuouly frustrated and unhappy and resigned from Richards ISD.  So I am sampling retirement.  If it does not turn out to be my cup of tea, will beg Tony to put in a good word for me at The Ace....lol.  I've been very busy and without computer network....have computer but can't connect to a good internet in rural Grimes cty.  Still looking, so I'm still at the library.  Think we are going to get federal help in these rural areas.  Hope so.

You all are the first site I do visit to read and catch up with our school group....So glad everyone is healing......yay! I've been catching up on my medical annual testing during the Welcome to Medicare year, the last week I was able to schedule testing before I turned 66 yesterday.  Sue and I celebrated with our friends, she in Bayou Vista and me in Navasota! Everything is going well, and I'm happily exercising ....now that I'm not stuck in front of a computer all day.

Kay, it's good to hear from you. With the wedding date approaching we have joined Beau in a state of confusion. Lot's of waking up at 4:00 in the morning with your mind spinning about details. Since you like stories about my dog Liz here's an update for you. When Paige and I first started dating she was "I can tolerate dogs but I don't like them much". Now she and Liz are best buddies. She and Liz are contantly doing girl stuff together. She tells Liz all about the wedding plans and Liz listens intently.  Of course she is always buying Liz presents. The last three weekends she has brought Liz a meatball sub from Subway. Will wonders never cease. Have a great day and keep on dancing!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Goot eefenink mine fine waltripines. Dropped out for awhile, as you can tell. Dont know why, but been having the "blues" for some odd reason. Must be all this snow that has us trapped in our homes...eh? The "blues", not to be cornfused with depression. Just the plain ol down in the dumps ho hum frumpy dumpy blues!  There are things that can take away the blues, like friends and lots of em, or getting on the forum, or riding my motorcycle and riding boldly ride. I seem to forget thats all it takes to get out of my snowday blues.

I'm sorta over them ol "winter snow day blues"! Yeah, thats the ticket, "tha winter snowday blues"! Right now I'm making chili for my beloveds office "rodeo" luncheon for tomorrow! Had to use 4 pounds o my prime texas beef from Grolczyks in Hempstead. It woulda been cheaper if she had just taken them all out for chili! Maybe Wendys...cept, that's not REAL TEXAS CHILI! It's ok, on a real cold day, and if there is no other chili around, and if your're real hungry!

With the blues, sometimes, I just start up a cornversation with perfect strangers! Well, nobody's perfect, but strangers none the less. When folks see me shopping at Krogers, they run for cover..."look out, its GABBY. RUN FOR YOUR LIVES, or at the very least, your sanity"...or woids to that defect! I generally wear my "Gus" cowboy hat, and the people at Kroger are so nice. They tell me how wonderful I look and how much they like my hat!   They dont fool me, I know they want me to keep wearing my hat so I'm readily identifiable so they can alert the staff and customers. They've even resorted to code over the loud speaker..."clean up on aisle whatever" . Now I know, that not every aisle I go down has a mess on it...cept maybe me! But I'm on to em. If nothing else, it keeps the aisles clear for me.

Yall remember the "Cutest Pet Photo" contest at THE LEADER  in which I entered Cooper? He probably finished in the top 50 out of  100, maybe. Anyway, I wrote a short bio on Cooper and his ability to work with children with reading problems and with autistic children and the life skills children. Well, some kind and generous soul read that article and donated 1000.00 dollars, in Coopers name, to one of his schools, Jefferson Elementary. This wasnt just money pledged, or promised, but was delivered by Fed Ex, to be used for books or anything the kids could use. Jefferson is a low income school so that donation will come in handy. An act of generosity and kindness, kindled by a throw-away dog no one wanted! Cept maybe me! Sounds like a good script for a movie!

Cooper seems to be ailing at the moment. Took him to the vet, and he has the start of an ear infection, which we caught right away. Plus one of his glands has an infection! We are treating it with antibiotics, of course, and pain pills for the discomfort he might be in. The vet and entire staff just love him...well duh, who wouldnt! I am concerned, even thought the vet says not to be alarmed...well since she isnt, then I guess she wont mind IF I AM! ! ! ! ! He is 8 years old now, and really isnt that old even for a big dog! But he has lost another pound this month. Again the vet says not to worry. Could just be the infection! I hope thats it! He is acting more dopey than his usual self, if that's possible!

Hey Kay, so glad you got on the forum. I was getting worried about you! Youre gonna love retirement. Your work load increases ten-fold! some of that new math!

Hey Richard and Paige???? Yall getting married??? Since when??? Wow, how come I'm the last one to hear about this???? My recollectin says I married yall sometime last sprang! ! I did, I did, by the paws vested in me, in the state of cornfusion, I announced you Richard and Paige in holy macaroni, never to be put asunder, no matter the thunder or wonder, till dark chocolate do you part ake! Guess that ceremoanium didnt take. Gotta do er all over again! Well, thats ok! I will be glad to get mah robes clean and dust off the ol bible and reperform the ceremoanium on March 9th.

More good gnus, our unofficial adopted grandaughter Lucy, the little girl next door, well, young lady, she will be 18 next month, any way, she got into the TIER 1 honors program scholarship for the Honors College at UH. Means she is in the top 1 percent of honor students. This a very prestigious and most sought after and hard to get scholarship. (I only know this because my beloved told me about it)  It is a full ride, plus 2 years abroad at the college of her choice. You thinking what I'm thinkin?
OXFORD! ! ! We are thrilled for her, needless to say! If anyone was deserving of such a scholarship, she definitly fills the bill ! Has carried a 5.5 whatever GPA since kiddegarten.

Oh, she will even get a research and study office of her very own in the library! Plus she will be in an honors dorm with like minded honors individuals! I know this is a load off her mind and her parents mind, how to pay a zillion dollars for college! I sure dont envy the parents and kids today that want to go to college. Not like when we went to Sam Houston State back in 64. That was 600 dollars a semester, plus books, plus 30 dollars a month to eat at Ma Frickerts boarding house. Teddie remembers that. OM goodness, we could put away the groceries. Dont know how that woman made any money with all us chow hounds eatin there twice a day 7 days a week!

Guess I better sign off...ol Gabby strikes again eh! I spend most every day alone, no one to talk to, but 6 cats and two dogs, and none of them carry on a very stimulating cornversation! So, I do get kind of lonesome, and all these snowed in days dont help!
I do shoot pool everyday, but I generally lose! At least the cats dont jump up on the table whilst I'm shooting. They dont like the sound of the balls clashing together. GOOD! ! ! says I...

I believe I was gonna sign off wasnt I! ! !
Keep the sun at your six, and ride boldly ride...
your frien and right reverend brother...Gabby Jabber Wrocky

Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

Beau, that is absolutely fantastic about the $1000 donation.  You should get out of your "blues" by thinking of what an inspiration you and Coop are to the students you "minister" to and now to adults so led to make that wonderful contribution because of your example.  We're all very proud of you and your dedication to making life a little bit better for so many - especially those of us who get so many laughs from your posts.

Richard Meek '65

Beau, I couldn't agree with Jimmie Lee more. What you and Cooper do for the kids that you assist is marvelous.  There is no telling how it will have a positive influence on those kids lives and because of that have a positive influence on other people that you won't be aware. The ripple effects of your actions are something you should feel very, very good about. Enough congratulations, get back to doing good deeds. The whirld needs all you can crank out.

Now as to your marrying ceremony in the Sprang. I was perfectly content with a state of confusion and holy macaroni. Paige informed me that the grandchildren sooooo wanted to participate in a wedding in a church that we just had to do it over. Me thinks Nana Paige soooooooo wanted a church wedin' too. The youngest grandaughter, Marianne, said that she had been dreaming of being a flawr girl her "whole" life. She's 8. Her flair for the dramatic was honestly inherited from you know who.

Everyone have a wonderful weekend,

Rich

Keep on dancing

Beaucephus, I'm heading down the highway this morning, but as my eight year old granddaughter would say, You and Cooper Rock.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Jimmie lee, Rich, and Teddie, thank you so much for your kind woids. Means a great deal to me coming from the calibre of folks that you are. It's really all Cooper, I'm just his "roadie" and chauffer.  One of the little munchkins said, "if Coopers so smart, how come he cant drive"? I told her that he didnt have opposing thumbs to turn the steering wheel! Then we did the 20 questions..."why not"  etc...

Tuesday, one of the little girls wanted to keep on reading. I hate to cut them off, but the optimum time frame for dog and munckin, is 10 minutes, worked out by people and animal behaviorists at Cornell university. That just wasnt gonna work for this little girl. So I let her keep on reading, till finally I had to stop her. She is first grade, and had a book as big as "War and Peace". When she got the message that it was time to cease, she said..."ok, can I have my marshmellow now"????   I had know Idear that she was being paid in marshmellows, just to sit with an old dog and an old man...but, out of the mouths of babes, eh what!

Ok, one of the real truths of life, is there are certain animals you dont want to say..."bite me", to,  Like Grizzly bears, Lions and tigers etc, And apparently I am living with some of the etc.  Why  for instance, our cat Annie-Bob, was head buttin me, and hollaring at me because I was too slow fetchin her dinner...I kept telling her to shut up, and she wouldnt of course, so I just looked her in the eye and said "BITE ME YOU STUPID INGRATE", so being the dutiful cat that she is, SHE BIT ME!  "Why sir, I am only too happy to oblige you in your request to have a good blood lettin"...So now, she is still hollaring,  head buttin me, and I'm bleedin like a stuck pig! ! !  So if you have a critter, DO NOT TELL THEM TO BITE YOU, cause they probably will. Old dudes like me, just never learn do we! ! !

Gee Rich, I was a hopin I'd be the flawr dude...skippin down the aisle tossin rose petals all about...I've been practicing alot with my beloveds rose bushes...that weedeater sure does "toss" the rose petals...HEY, I GOT A IDEAR, how would you and the lovely rose petal Paige, like me to crank up my weedeater and really toss the flawrs down the aisle???? Waddaya think???? Too much???? Yeah, probably too much noise huh! Ok, I will come up with some kind of good stuff for THA WEDDING OF THE CENTURY! ! ! How about a fog making machine? Snow blower? Well, dont you worry bro, I'll come up with something good...!

Spent the whole day at the gun range! First 4 hours as the Range Safety Officer (RSO), and the next 2 hours teaching a class on firearms safety and shooting techniques, finding the right piece to fit your hand etc. It was suppose to be sunny, which it wasnt, so I left the boys outside all day. When I got home, they were so happy to see me, Cooper was jumping straight up in the air about 3 feet, and acting like a little puppy. I wish I could take em to the range, but they would freak out at the noise...They really missed me, and of course, I missed them too. I fed em early tonight, and wasnt moving fast enough, which of course prompted the residence T-Rex, Annie-Bob, to BITE ME! ! !

Ok, coffee and pie a la mode time...yeah, thats what I'm talking about. I had a bologna sandwich this morn for breakfast...I know what youre thinking, "are you eating healthy"?  Well, dont worry bout me, cause the bologna was free range!  the mayo was also free range, as well as the bread...all free range...well, I'm free range, your free range, all Gods chilluns are free range...

Ok, time to deplane and go free range...
Kiss the one you love...and hold on tight..

Your frien and the right rev BeauCephusGabbyJabberWrocky

Paige Talley (Meek)

Boy, I have got to get back to making the time to get on here more often... work will have to wait.

Richard is correct about Liz, though. I have balked at pets for a long time and here the Black Dog has stolen my heart... well at least the part that Richard hasn't won.. I have had so many critters pass through my living room when raising the boys and seems like raising their cousins (27 first cousins) that I didn't think I could look at another raccoon, rooster, skunk, snake, fish, dog 1-10, rabbit, stray cat or Easter chicks 12 all at a time... peep peep peep peep all night long! And then this crazy wild child black forever a puppy heart in a big and tall body literally jumped into my the "I love the dog" catagory. Promise me you won't say a word of this to RIchard...My reputation is on the line.

It is a little crazy and only a tiny bit stressful. One thing to keep in mind, as we are old-er a little party, wedding, gathering or any such is just as much consuming as a BIG whatever !!! But then it is fun and Marianne, the flower girl, designer, decorator and sweetest little granddaughter, is all worth it.

Beau, I must add that I, too, think Cooper is a Keeper. who knew that you had a fundraiser living right there in your house. Be careful though, the Bake Sale ladies might get wind of his talent and try to entice him their way.

It is time to get back to the next thing on the list.... Hope to see y'all soon.

Hugs, Paige

Good stuff Wayne. I think  Fudd's will give you 10 percent off of everything, except beer and wine! That may have changed some since Pappas took them over , but I know for a fact it still does not apply to beer, because I try  to get them to every month!

Did you ever wonder how the Wild Wild West really looked in the 1800’s?

Well here is some incredible photography considering they were shooting with box cameras and lousy lenses’ as compared to what we have today. There is also excellent narrative history.

These poor Indians look pretty sad and I suppose they were after getting killed by the thousands and losing their way of life all for the advancement of our American civilization. I traveled through along the Missouri River and range of the Dakota Nations across South Dakota to Sturgis, Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore a few years ago and saw some photos of these noble but beaten people and was sort of bummed out at what I saw.  These pix are great landscapes with indigenous American species also. See for yourself below…………..

I really enjoyed the photos Wayne. It sounds like O'Sullivan's hallmark was showing the Indians as he found them rather than staging them in scenes and dress other than that. And you're right, it makes you sad to see the defeat and disgust on their faces.

What a treasure his record of that  time, and that dramatic landscape before it was spoiled by humans, is today.

Take the rest of the day off, you deserve it after all, it’s Texas Independence Day!

From Wikipedia:

‘Texas Independence Day is the celebration of the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836. With this document, settlers in Mexican Texas officially broke from Mexico, creating the Republic of Texas.[1] Texas Independence Day is an official holiday in the state of Texas

I have been around the world a few times, made several stops along the way and although I love the tropics, especially the Windward Islands of the West Indies, I still love Texas the best. They say that home is where your heart is and my heart and soul is in Texas cause that’s where I belong.

When my boys took off from home, I told them they could live anywhere they liked, as long as it was in Texas. When I started searching for my final spot to reside, I looked hard at South Florida on both coasts and the Keys but decided I would feel like a traitor if I ever left for good, besides there were too many folks from New Jersey and I just could not stand to listen to that accent or condone their rude behavior, especially the rich ladies.

Happy Texas Independence, be proud you are a Texan, have some Shiner beer and Bar-B-Q and be glad you live where you can wear shorts in March and carry as many guns as you can tote.

Kinky for President and Willie for Vice-President in 2016.

Texas, it ain’t perfect but it beats the heck out of Oklahoma,

4th Generation Texan from League City TX,
