Beau, you never cease to amaze me either!  You always make me laugh!  Just an FYI to everyone who reads the forum - my 96 year old mother slipped and fractured her hip the Saturday after Christmas.  Thank goodness she had Life Alert and was able to get help right away.  She had a partial hip replacement the following day, Sunday.  My mother is a very strong and healthy 96 year old, so she is doing pretty well considering all she has been through.  She is in the hospital still in intensive rehab - don't think they've ever had anyone up there 96!  Will find out tomorrow from her case worker when she may be realeased and where we might go next.  Right now it is a day at a time!  I was there until last Saturday and I had to come home, but my son and my neice from Denton took over for me, then I will return to Houston on Thursday.  I have begun to look for an independent living/assisted living arrangement for her.  If any of you who have been through this have any recommendations please send them my way.  We would like for her to be near Georgetown or Katy where my son lives.

A belated Happy New Year to everyone!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Scotty and Lola, we missed you last night. Condolences to the Rankin family. Methinks I saw James not too long ago. Or, maybe I remember seeing him a long time ago and think it was recent. Susan, sorry about your mom. 96 ! ! ! I dont know of any assisted living arrangements here, but in Las Cruces, New Mexico, I do. My mom is 92 and Jake is 95, and they are more stubborn than trying to fish that last olive out of the jar without turning it over. It's just a matter of time, when one of them falls, again, and then they will be forced to move to assisted living. My sisters have showed them some beautiful cottage type communities, where there is every appearance of independent living, where everything is done for you, all you have to do is live...like living in a luxury hotel...but all to no avail.

I hope you have better luck with your search, and your moms attitude about it. heck, none of us want to have to give up our independence, or our homes and the things we know, but it beats being dead, and or homeless, at least in my mind. If youre dead, then you have no memories to recollect. If youre alive and letting someone else change the lightbulbs, you can still see, and not have to work, and still have memories...oh well, sorting out my life is hard enough, without having to sort out someone elses life that doesnt want help. But we will certainly keep you in our prayers whilst your mom recovers. It was such a delight seeing you a week or so ago. What a pleasant surprise that was.

Speaking of surprises, Fudds turnout was a lot more than I expected. There were 12 of us diehard reunioners there last night. I figured it would just be DW and I and a couple others due to inclement weather. Still no Jackie though. But, she has a hall pass, so is excused from any further activities till she is 100 percent ready.  Everyone was wondering what to order for supper, until Jimvet sat down with the avocado and bacon salad...then there was a mad dash for the food counter. Seems all us got some variation of avocado salad.

We all ate healthy...sort of...As Diane and I were embarking on the order window, Barbara had ordered a Bison burger, then promptly changed it to a PUMPKIN SHAKE...Before it was delivered, I figured if you ordered that, they would hand you a pumpkin and shake your hand and send you away...hmmmm it looked so good too...my question to barbara last night was...."how do you go from ordering a bison burger, and then change your mind and get a pumpkin shake"???? Either you want a burger, and a shake, or a hotdog and a malt, or this and that, but not this rather than that! ! ! Hmmm, gonna have to think on that one fer a spell...Barbara said it was great, so Diane and I ordered chocolate cake...makes sense doesnt it????

Also heard that Linda Webster is doing well, except for this little fire and that little fire, that are being extinguished...soon there will be no fires, and she will be 1000 percent more better...she is still on our prayer list as is Jackie, and Susan and her family trying to cope with aging parents...thats a hard one, because we are all use to seeing our parents being strong, and independent, and us relying on them and looking to them for support and comfort...now roles are reversed...It's hard being forced to look upon your parent as "the child"...I suppose we all have that to look forward to...I guess the trick is to approach it with as much grace and humility and dignity that we can muster.

I finally introduced the little dog next door to our manangerie...they all seem to get along ok...Boots, aka Buddy, is sorta nervous, which is to be expectied of course...poor little guy, lost his "mom" some 8 years ago, and now his "pop" is missing...He is really a sweet and obedient pup, and aside from his nervousness, is no trouble. I am always mother henning him, making sure that Cooper and Jack and Big Oliver and all the other critters dont bully him or harm him...I think they have accepted him, those that would anyway, and those that wont, just steer clear of him...

Ok, enough of this rain...DAVE IS THAT YOU? I WAS ASLEEP, WHY DIDNT YOU WAKE ME? WHAT ARE YOU DOING DAVE...iT'S OK HAL, go back to sleep...boots is barking, so gotta run...

Ok I'm back...Seems now Boots (I think I will rename him...Barney, or Buddy) has grown attached to me and "dogs" me where ever I go. We dont allow any animals in the living room, or library, or upstairs.

Also this new computer has just been a puzzlement...I tried to shut er down the other night, and it wouldnt let me, said it was installing 1 or 114 updates...I left it on all night, and came back the next morning, and it was still installing, and ssaid it was on 2 of 114 updates...HAL has gone nuts...I called Office Depot, and would you believe I talked to the expert there named...DAVE???? Yup... coinkydink???? I think not...

Anyway he said to power off and then power back on and see what happens...so I did...came back on and said it was on 28 of 114 updates...just walked away from it, and came back later and it had shut down. Now, every program in there wants it's own up date...I knew it was a mistake buying a new computer...I told you...didnt I tell you????

Ok, gonna put HAL to bed, and me and Barney and all the othe r critters...this new keyboard is a hoot though...I could already type about 75 words a minute or more, and this keyboard seems to go faster...

Keep the sun at your 6, if itr ever comes out...enough rain...and ride boldly ride

your frien and brother RockyWann aka Dave

Gloria Hornick (Walker)

I have not been on here much, especially recently,  but have two things to share for those who are interested.

The  Waltrip Band is trying to go to Washington, DC for three inaugural events and needs $40,000 in the next seven days.  The cost is $975 for each of the 141 students.  They have already earned $110,000 through various concerts and fund raisers.  There will be a free concert from 5 to 9 tonight at the school, with donations accepted.  You may also send them to Waltrip High School, Attention Jesse Espinosa (director), 1900 West 34th, Houston 77018.  There is a big article about this in the Star section of the Chronicle today.  This sounds like a great opportunity for the band, so they can have special high school memories like so many of us do.

Susan, you may want to look into Brookdale Senior Living for your mother.  My parents (both 91) moved into Hampton at Pinegate (behind the Scout Building on 610 and T C Jester) at the end of September.  We have been pleased with their stay there.  There are several locations in the Austin/Georgetown area.  Brookdale Senior Living is the group, with many locations listed on their website.  Sterling House in Georgetown,  Sterling  House in Temple, and Horizon Bay in Round Rock are just three, with others in Austin.  You might check them out.

Even though they wanted to go and are glad they did, it has been a big time factor for us, as we are helping them with the transition and getting their home ready to go on the market.  I now have a new respect for people who have gone through this.

I had planned to go to Fudds Tuesday night but was scared off by the weather forecast.  Did not want to get stranded by high water.  Glad you had a good group.

Wishing you all a healthy,  happy new year!

Teddie Jordan

Susan, we are praying for your mom's recovery and for you as you begin this transition with her.

We just heard about the Waltrip Band opportunity a few days ago and agree that it is a good cause, and sent in a check. It's safe to say we're not big fans of our once again president and the fact that he is trying to spend our children and grandchildren into the poorhouse with debt, but our wish for these young students to get to take this trip outweighs those partisan feelings.

I personally was 24 years old before I got to travel on a plane or go outside of Texas, and as I understand it a lot of these young people are in that same situation, so I can relate. It was at that age that I became a salesman and ironically in the year that followed I flew almost every week and on everything from a single engine Piper, to a  Beechcraft Baron and corporate jet that my employer owned, and all of the commercial airliners then in use, so I got caught up pretty fast. I now once more prefer to drive and stay closer to home, but I'll never forget how exciting and new it all was back then.

This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for these Waltrip students and it sounds like they are very deserving. I sincerely hope they meet their goal by the deadline and am confident that they will be successful.

Susan Howard (Bowman)

Thanks to you all for your thoughts and prayers!  Mom is making progress every day!  She is being moved to a skilled nursing/rehab facility on Tuesday and, of course, she is hoping to go home from there.  Gloria, I have already looked into Sterling House in Temple and hope that is where she will eventually end up.  Thank you for your suggestion and it is also helpful to know your parents are happy where they are.  It is difficult to go through this, but so helpful to have the support of my friends who have already been there.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Susan, good luck with your mom, on her recovery and her maybe new "digs"...whens the last time you heard the woid "digs" for home? Glad to hear that Glorias parents are happy with their new senior living.  My mom and her husband Jake, are just as obstinate as two people can be to any kind of change. They are both so broke down, always falling, or this or that, wont be long, social services will take over and force them into a home. My sisters have gone above and beyond the call of duty trying to help them, but to no avail. Kathy lives in Virginia, and Carol down at NASA, and Mom lives in Las Cruces, NM...

Mom wants to come back to her home on DeMilo, but she and Jake cant travel...I have offered to charter a private jet, or bus, or RV, complete with a nursing staff to get them back to Houston, but they just arent having it! They cant travel, they keep telling me, but they want to come here...Ok, there is no other way to get here, but TO TRAVEL...I just leave it alone now...other than having them arrested and sent here, there's nothing that can be done for folks that  want you to do everything, and nothing,  but anything you do isnt good enough...

But aside from all that, HOW BOUT THIS WEATHER???? Just got through walking all three dogs, not at the same time, but separately....I'd probably wind up on the 6 oclock news if I ever attempted walking 3 dogs...
"We interrupt our regularly scheduled broadcast with this breaking gnus...Beauregard Cephus Rocky Wanndamonium was seen walking three dogs today, at the same time, and now the entire northwest side of Houston has been completely gridlocked and shut down...Traffic is snarled along a stretch of 290 all the way to the Rocky Mountains...Lordy, when is that ol boy gonna learn...film at 10 oclock tonight..."

We have to take ol barney, or boots back to his garage whenever we are gone, cause we discovered he was peeing in about 4 places in the house...cant have that! Our dogs dont ever pee in the house, and can hold it for 12 to 15 hours...they never have to wait that long, but the vet said that they should be able to go that long. Even the cats dont mark their territory, and we all know how territorial cats are...I hate having to do that to barney, but I aint gonna have him ruining our new floor and furniture...he even peed on one corner leg of my pool table! ! ! !
Now that dear friends is a crime punishable by being stuffed and mounted...rat now, he is sleeping in a cat bed next to me as I type all this important information down so's as to enlighten you good folks...I just gno yall are appreciative of all my "community information"...

I still havent been able to check out the Elementary school for sale in Burton...To Dianes credit, she is being a good sport about it...I'm pretty sure she really doesnt want her very own Elem School, having taught in them for the last 35 years...well, maybe I could interest her in an old church or fire station...I just gno she'd like that eh what???

Saturday, Mary K, the director of BAK PAK CRITTERS and Cooper and I, gave a demonstration at Dianes professional teachers organization, DELTA KAPPA GAMA...They were sufficiently wowd...Cooper was at his absolute best...of course all the teachers and retired teachers fell in love with him, who wouldnt! ! !
That ol boy musta sensed all the goodies there to eat, cause you can bet all the ladies gave him a taste or two of ham and cheese and whatever else I would let him have...they told me to just let him wander about the room, which I did,  and they would see to it he was loved...that ol boy still has a grin on his face...

an aside here, most of the ladies were wearing black...all of em took home some "Cooper memorabilia"...like his fur...and I brush that ol boy within an inch of his life, with 4 brushes, and one of the the much advertised and touted "FURMINATOR", which turns out to work out ok, just not like they promise. And that brush is about 50 dollars or more...maybe when Cooper and I go a visiting, I ought to hand out the sticky rollers...eh! ! !

And unbeknownst to Mary K or Diane or myself, DKG made a contribution to BAK PAK...now that was nice...they are such a good caring group, always trying to help schools and new teachers with supplies and things...they also have scholarship funds and emergency funds to help members...back when allison flooded houston, we got some water in our home, not a lot, just in the back two bathrooms...had to replace a couple yards of carpet, and baseboards etc...DKG sent us a check to help cover the costs...I felt so bad for having received "help", cause I'm just not use to that...especially freebies, cause down the line, IT DOES COST SOMEONE SOMETHING...nothing is ever free, cept advise and opinions, and most of us dont want any of that...

But anyway, they are a great group of ladies, and my beloved is one of em! ! !

THE LEADER is having a "SPECIAL PET" contest, wanting to hear why I/your pet is special...Well, I entered cooper, not to get any goodies or prize, but to let folks know just how special Cooper is...how he survived being thrown away, and  wandering the streets, and then "death row" at the pound, then eventually came to be in our care and a truly productive member of society as a childrens reading therapy dog...I thought THE LEADER would pick a suitable winner based on whatever their criteria was, but they say we can vote on line twice a day on their website...I guess you type in THE LEADER, AND then it will direct me to where I need to go...Guess I will let the brains of the outfit, Diane, take care of that...

I think some of the prizes are grooming services and treats and pet sitting and other things...I dont let anyone groom our critters but Diane and I, and most of the treats and food folks put up for prizes, I wouldnt buy anyway...I am very picky about the treats and food our critters get...and as for the pet sitting, I DONT TRUST ANYONE TO TAKE CARE OF MY FAMILY, CAUSE THEY DONT LOVE EM LIKE I DO...

I really didnt enter the contest for my recognition, but for Cooper, and his being rescued, touting that even throwaway dogs and cats have a unique purpose in life, even if it's just to be our loving companions, let alone helping kids with reading...(there was a cat in the reading program, and did very well, but, he got old and passed over that "rainbow bridge"...

Ok, time to start getting Cooper ready for his class this nafteroon. Me too!!!!

Hope all is well with everyone, and this weather isnt too hard on you good folks...I gno, it hurts me something fierce, but I still like it....the weather, not the pain...although, "pain is our friend...embrace it...love it...TO HELL WITH IT" I allus say...I have found that EXCEDRIN EXTRA STRENGTH seems to work fairly well, cause it has ASPIRING, TYLENOL, AND CAFFEIN...which my pharmasist wife informs me is why it works so well...also, take it with a hot cup of coffee...

WHATEVER! ! ! Keep the sun at your 6 and ride boldly ride...but dress warmly...

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Susan, my prayers are with you and your mom.  I know what a difficult time this is.  When I finally had to put my 94 year old aunt (my mother's only sister) in a nursing home, it was devastating.  To take her away from her home in Austin of 70 something years and put her in a nursing home here in Houston, well, there are no words.  As we backed out of her driveway she started crying that she would never see her home again.  We both cried all the way to Houston!    I wish you a smooth journey -- and again, I wasn't putting her in an assisted living area, it was a nursing home and confinement, there is a difference.  I promised her I would come and see her as often as I could -- and that was almost every day.  I still haven't gotten over the trauma ----- she died the following year at 95.  I didn't go through this with my parents, as they died in their early 70's - one year apart still living at home.

BroBeau, so glad you have a new computer!  You and Hal will be the best of buddies before you know it.  I got a new computer last year and still learning new stuff on it!

Got through chemo #4 of FEC/Zometa  last Wednesday - just back to work today -- more weakness than usual. but I will survive - I am woman, I am strong - or as the song goes!!!  Had a PET scan last Monday and saw Dr. Arun on Tuesday.  She was happy with the report in that although there was no shrinkage, it hadn't grown nor spread elsewhere.  Thank goodness!!  I will continue FEC #5 and #6 and then go on to another treatment.  My next chemo is January 30.

Miss everyone!!!  Have to keep myself isolated especially with all this flu bug going around.  Had a touch of upper respiratory infection at Christmas and just now getting over the cough!

Just posted Barbara's Fuddrucker pictures - enjoy!

Hugs and love,

J

Jackie, thanks for the update. You ARE indeed strong, and you also have an A-1 attitude which is so important. And that's good news on your test and your progress.

We miss seeing you too but you are definitely doing the right thing and we are all so pulling for you!

A year from now you will be back stronger than ever and this will all just be a bad memory.

Beau Wann, Jr.

I second that emotion TJ...we all will sure be glad to see you again at fudddddsss (keys stuckkkkk)...

Coopers first day back at school went well. He has 3 kiddos for now, one is autistic! If they hadnt told me, I would have thought he was just one of the regulars. In fact, he acts just like all the kids, SHY...VERY SHY...AND QUIET TOO...one thing I noticed, was that he always kept a hand on cooper rubbing him whilst he read...he also smiled, which the librarian said was an amazing breakthrough, because before Cooper he never smiled...hmmm, just a few minutes with cooper would make anyone smile...

Looks like our neighbor that crashed into his own tree, isnt doing so well...not eating, and not adhering to rehabin...Talked to his daughter Shelly in Denver tonight, and she gave us the lowdown...he hasnt even asked about little bumpus his dog...as you might have guessed I have changed his name afew times...Barney; Barnaby; Benji; Bumpus; Rufus; Doofus; I might just settle on Doofus or Rufus...it seems that Jack likes the name Rufus, and comes when I call it...and for that matter, Cooper and all the cats seem to respond to the name Rufus...

Sometimes I dont even have to call a certain name, just get up and go to the kitchen, then they all come running...

Bob may have to go into assisted living permanently...boo...Shelly says she cant keep Boots, and Byron cant take him back to New York City...NEW YORK CITY????   "GET A ROPE"...so, looks like we just might wind up with the little dust mop, unless any of youse youtes might want to take this fine pup into your home and hearts...poor little puppy...Someone suggested that we put diapers on him to keep him from weeing in the house...UN, NO, I AINT A GONNA DIAPER NO DADBURN DOG...he might wind up living in the bathtub, but no diapers...

Right now, he and jack are sleeping together on the two big pillows in the game room...all the cats are on our bed...gonna be a "6 cat night" tonight...cold??? how cold is it???? It's so cold, Big Oliver doesnt even want to go outside, and he has a built in fur coat, now thats cold...

My digital head shaver broke Sunday Morn...it kept scratchin my punkin head...in fact scratched it up all to hell and gone, and even drew blood...my head looked like it was gut shot...now I gotta go lookin for a new lectric shaver...I tried using shaving gel, and a razor, but along with the blood lettin, it hurt also too...Now I know a good doctor would charge you plenty for a good blood lettin, but I've grown kinda fond of my blood and part with it reluctantly.

My Marine friend uses a razor and gel, but whatdaya expect, HE'S A JARHEAD! ! !  A good one howsomever...first time I shaved my head, I used a razor, and bled like a stuck pig...then I surmised that sense I put old spice shaving lotion on my face, why it would work on my head also...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...friends, that was one of the dumbest things ol jethro beaudine has ever done...you cant imagine how that hurt...hurts more than when you put it on your face...one of the things I have stricken from my to do list...

OH, hey, news release, I sawr an owl in the neighborhood last week. I was getting the mail, and he flew low over my head and into our tree...dont know what kind he was, but small, maybe 8 or 10 inches high...it was dark 30 when he flew by...I was as excited as a kid on Christmas. I ran into the house to get Diane and then ran next door to get Lucy and her family, and the owl didnt disappoint me, he stayed put...wow, you know thats good luck dontcha? Yup, owl seein, is a good omen for sure...right up there with a shootin star! ! ! I hadnt seen an owl since we left Hearthstone some 20 year ago. (just between us waltripians, I wish we still lived there)...

Guess I'll sing off for now...Diane is at "Session" meeting at church, and I'm left ALL ALONE...POOR LITTLE ME...nothing on the boob toobe, cept some ww2 color film, and Ive seen every war documentary there is, and then some...besides, I know how it turns out...

I always hate seeing Diane drive off...I'll be glad when she feels like she can retire so we can do stuff together, like feed the dogs and cats, clean the litter boxes and clean the doggie poop up outside, and clean the pool, and do the yard, and clean the kitchen and do the laundry...yeah, you know, ALL THE FUN STUFF...but really, I will be glad when we have more days together than just two a week. Christmas vacation is always fun cause she is off and we shop together, or I find a place to sit and drink coffee, whilst she shops.

Yeah, yeah yeah, I gno, I'm just ramblin...well, I do get lonesome sometimes when DW isnt here. None of the critters carries on much of a stimulatin cornversation, and TV sucks, and I cant shoot pool, cause there are two dogs laying around the table, and one cat asleep on it...which brings me to another breach of "The Marriage Contract"...isnt it in the hand book that "thou shalt knot use your husbands pool table as a laundry folding table"??? Or "thou shalt gnot use it to wrap presents"??? Well, she did, and does...I allus clear it off when she leaves for work, but once she gets home, look out...her laptop is on it, and the pewsnaper is on it...oh well, it could be worse...I could have a swimming pool in the backyard...

ok, ok, I believe I was gonna sing off, so here I go...la la la la la..etc...
your frien and brother Beauregardcephuswanndamonium

BroBeau, thanks for the many laughs --- you are just amazing!!!  Although sorry to hear about your neighbor, so sad if he cannot return home.  And you have another critter added to your family - oh, my gosh!

And Teddie and Bro, yep, hopefully a year from now I will have a more normal life!  I just miss all of you --- maybe next Fudd's I can sneak in for a little while.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Jackie, yup, this time next year, you'll be surfing Maverick, or Waimea...Not too many moments in the day go by with out a thought of you in it! ! ! Maybe when you come to fudds, we will pass out the medical masks to everyone...sounds like a good idear...

Well, I am typing this from my dadburn bed in the middle of the dadburn day...seems I picked up something yestiddy, I think food poisoning, but you gnever gno. I was selling buicks and hollarin ralph fer sometimes yestiddy eenin. I have not been that stomach sick in moren 20 year...probably kill an ordinary feller thats fer shure. (yall dont mind I added an extra "h" in sure now do ya? Been wantin to do that fer quite a spell now).

Hold on, I'm movin out to the game room...got some glorius sun coming in the winders (east texas for windows)...(time passes)...Ok, now I'm set up proper like. Boy, my stomach feels like I ate a bushel basket O green apples, basket and all...oh, that sun sure feels good. I woulda gone outside, cept it is 46 gredees and the wind is blowin.  I'm looking at my Official Thermometer hangin on the side of the fireplace facing my window, and it reads 96 degrees. Friends, it sure doesnt feel 96, more like 9.6 on the frosty scale...

Now, I'm sure theres talk out there about the validity and officialness of my thermometer, but I assure you it is mostly accurate...mostly...before the sun shone on it, it was right even with the Official weather channel temperature...And I have calibrated it with one of the 3 sliderules that is in my employ.

But like I said, it is my trusty ol LUCKY HORSE FEED thermometer from EARLS FEED AND GRAIN out of HOUNDDUCK, KAINTUCK...I kid you knot...I even took a picture of it this morn, to post..onliest (east texas for only) thing is, I forgot to down load it...ho hum, somedays it just doesnt pay to get out of bed in the moring.  And today is surely one O them days...

I gnow your all probably a wonderin, why come a math deficient feller like me has come to have 3 slide rules in his employ...you are wonderin that arent you??
Sometimes I wonder myself just why...but then I get a brain freeze, and the wonderin goes away.

I dont gnormally watch tv in the middle of the day, but today being an extra special day, I thought I'd giver a shot...surfed somuch, had to change the battries in the dohicky...REMOTE...yeah, thats what it's called. lost my mind there for a minute, and allus gnows, a mind is a turrible think to wit...

Anyway, there was Andy and Barney in my favorite town of Mayberry, with the usual hijinks and shenanigans...seen em all, so I went back to sleep! Woke up in time to see GUNSMOKE, the festus and newly episodes...I never did like the Chester character...Anyways, Ol Newly met hisself a really fine girl on the stage to Dodge...did I say she was fine??? Well, she was as pretty a gal as you ever want to set eyes on...

She and Newly fell in love and set the wedding date of next Sunday. Now, I dont know what day of the week it was, but NEXT sunday, was closin in. And as luck would have it, she asks ol Doc (Milburn Stone) wouldnt he refill her "tonic prescription" for her. Well, you gnow ol doc, an alarmist if ever I did see one, And you gnow something is up with the look he gave her after he looked at what her tonic was.

So he sets her down, and examines her (something I was doing all along when I first laid eyes on her) right then and there. Takes a blood sample, and shoos her off. Next we see he is looking in his rickety old brass microscope. (wonder if it came out of the Sears Roebuck catalog) Well, no matter. Next he is tellin miss Kitty and Matt about that "Patricia" is dieing.

He tells Newly, and of course he doesnt believe that she has lukemia, so good Ol doc, sends a letter back east, probably to St Louis, where a REAL expert on "blood" resides. Well, they get married and have a few happy weeks or months, and then she dies...man, that just clutched me, and got me all teary eyed, AND RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY TOO...of course, it could just be my stomach painin me, sort of like it's doing now...

Anyway, now ol Newly is gonna become a doctor, under the tutelege of one Doc Adams...He's already a deputy, and a gunsmith, and now owns a horse ranch that he set up for his beloved, and now he's gonna be a doctor...I never watched Gunsmoke after they gussied it up and put it in color...and this one was in color, and of course I never saw it the first time it came out. So, I guess you could say, it was the "pilot" episode of a new show...DOC NEWLY, which of course never came to past.

You know, there is nothing like the sun in the winter to make you feel a tad better. The sun in the summer is of course, something else. It sorta beats a feller down...Ok, guess I will sing off for now...I'm not feeling too swell...Keep the sun at your 6 and ride boldly ride...but dress warm...

Cephus, I hope you shake that bug. Doesn't sound like much fun for sure. Hopefully it will prove to be the normal 24 hour duration.

There was a great article and picture on the front page of the City / State section of today's Chronicle on Mr. Henri Gadbois, our old art teacher from Black Jr. High, and his late in life discovery and business of making faux food art. I think I remember having read of him being  well thought of in that medium before, and it sounds like he has really acquired a good reputation among museums that want to use realistic looking food items in displays and exhibits. The thing that intrigues me about the story is how he actually bakes the item to be copied and then makes the model from the real thing. I couldn't help but think how good it all sounded and looked to eat. Made me kind of hungry just reading about it. I started smelling fresh baked pies.

Mr. Gadbois is a neat guy and it was good visiting with him when he came to Fudd's a couple of years ago, and so nice of him to take the time to do so. He has a profile on our class website and a link to his website realfauxfoods.com.

I never had him, and as far as I gnow, never remembered his name. Of course NOW, it sounds familiar since you recalled it, but I had Ms Hawkins for art. Sounds like a cool guy though, except for making food that you cant eat...He probably models his faux fued after real stuff. I read the article, and it mentioned he taught at Lee, and that he supplies faux food to bayou bend, and Mount Vernon. That stuff sure fooled me, I thought it was real...

Teddie, you have a phenomenal memory...sometimes I have to make up stuff to HAVE memories...

I just had some chicken noodle soup, well, a couple spoon fuls...we will see if it will stay down...nothing tastes good now, and nothing sounds good either...guess I'd do better with Mr Gadbois stuff..

just thought I'd share a picture with you of me playing chess with Annie-bob...she really likes checkers, and has a tendency to fall asleep during chess...I was just showing her some basic moves, it's not like I was showing her the workings of an atom bomb...hard to get her to take things serious...cept maybe tuna...

BroBeau, Too cute!!!  And keep eating that Chicken Noodle soup it has healing powers!  Had some today at lunch!

Just completed an hour and a half webinar with Class Creator -- a lot of new features will be added to our website by January 27 and additional features in the future.  Pat Clooney of '67 was also on webinar - not sure if any of the other Waltrip website admins attended.

I'm  really excited on some of the new features.  I'll be able to add more links on the side and can have subtitles if needed.  So say the Fuddrucker pictures, I'll be able to divide into each year, so you don't have to download all of them at one time.  That goes for reunions, etc. Anyway, start looking for changes after January 27!  And warning, on January 27 there will be a 5 hour window when all these changes will take place, you will not be able to access website.

Have a good night!

Hugs and love,heart

Jackie

Teddie,

That’s interesting about Mr. Gadbois’ art form. I was in Tokyo around 1980 or so and recall that  the restaurants I went into had a glassed pie case in front by the register with plastic (I think) replicas of all food entrees, exact size, color, count, etc. which was very helpful for this hayseed to order meals (point and grunt). Maybe we are moving in that direction in this country and he has discovered a true commercial vocation with the food models. I also noticed that your AP house had a sale pending sign on it a couple of weeks ago, good luck in getting it finalized.

Jackie,

If you keep on improving our little web site, I am going to have to recommend you for a pay raise. Thanks for all you do for us and keep on getting well.

Burg,

Did you get snow up in those piney woods with this recent weather?

Beau,

Keep on providing us with amusements (fiction or otherwise) and the ongoing ‘funny pets’ and collectible antiques column.

From d’ tropical island of Trinidad where there is warm weather year round without hurricanes (latitude 10 degrees North) and the 1000 lb. leather back turtles lay their eggs (traveling all the way from Nova Scotia), fine amber rum (Royal Oak), spices (some very hot) and a carnival in a couple of weeks that is equaled only in Rio,

Jackie, agree with Wayne on the pay raise. You are sounding so great in your posts. Looking forward to seeing you at Fudds soon. Beau, keep up the stories. I dont respond very often, but always enjoy reading the forum frequently. And Teddie, I concur, you have a memory like ...........well, it must be from your long life or clean living and avoidance of the brew. Uhhhh but now I remember a few trips to south Texas years ago white wing hunting so it couldn't be that.

Then my beloved comes home and got sick also...gotta be some kind O commie left wing plot...needless to say, we are skiping supper...

Voting starts tomorrow for pet of the millenium at www.theleadernews.com
If you take the leader, Coopers picture is in there along with 106 other cutie pies...Cooper is Number 25, and as the lady told me, you can vote twice a day...Gonna be a hard choice, cause some o these critters are really cute...

Well, I'm sure all are deserving of first prize in everyones book...When you go on line, it is suppose to tell about each pet...they didnt give much room to write stuff, so you can bet I wrote small to get it all in...

Since I was up at the wee small hour of 2:30 this morn, I tried to get on the forum, and not only could I not get on the forum, I couldnt get out of the house...seems the broadband server was down...well shes fixed now, and voila, here I be...

Trinidad mon???? Wayne, you be careful down there, I hear there's nothing but foreigners in TRINIDAD...MON...

Same way with Neighbor...I know Mrs Simpson musta splained it, but I was probably asleep that particular day...the e before the i does look better when spelled out, but it is breaking a hard and fast rule, and I want to gnow wheye...enquireing minds want to gnow...

It's me again Margaret...who else would it be, right? I forgot one important bit of info from the Leader, the Oaks Dads Club is having a BRING BACK THE OLDTIMERS to raise money. Yup, they want allus oldtimers to come back for an oldtimers softball game. Festivities start Friday, Feb 8 at 6pm, and continuing all day Saturday Feb 9 from 8 AM till ??? Gonna have BBQ. You can go on line to read all about it I suppose.  Oaks Dads Club was founded in 1954 and the park was called American Legion Field, because the American Legion owned it, and sold it to the city sometime...I think it is still called American Legion field, but I could be wrong...have been before..

So any of youse oldtimers that want to play another game of softball can register sometime...I had two great softball gloves, but one of my sons talked me out of them to play softball, and now of course, cant find them...one was a Ted Williams...... Well, I might go by there and say howdy, I'm sure most everyone there would recognasize me from my advancement playing in the big leagues...NOT...

Well, anyway, just thought I'd pass that along...www.theleadernews.com is website should you want to read about it, plus while youre there, you can vote for Cooper, pet picture #25...it would sure be good publicity for "rescues", and for BAK PAK CRITTER READING PROGRAM...I gnow, that there are other really cute and wonderful pets entered, but REALLY, Cooper deserves his chance at the big time...after all, he swam the atlantic ocean coming from Labrador, and then he hadd to swum it over again because he went the wrong way, then he fought hand to hand combat in the jungles of Borneo up around Marshall, Tx...

Then invented the dog biscuit, and was the subject of the book MARLEY AND Bubba, not to mention single handedly training all the K9 dogs in the whirld...that ol boy was a busy pup...oops, gotta go, one of the cats must be on his bed, he is standing staring at me with his "someones on my bed...oh gawd...oh the humanity..."

So see ya in the dugout or funny papers, whichever am foist...
your frien and brother ...Rocky

I'm so sorry to hear that after all the fund raising efforts of all concerned that the S. P. Waltrip Band will not be included in the Inaugural Parade.  They did however make the trip to DC and will be playing at the Black Tie & Boots Ball.  Show 'em what you're made of!
