Linda Bradley (Barnes)

Hi Everyone - just wanted to let all know that one of our class mates, Kay (McMahan) Resnich passed away on Friday January 6, 2012.  She had pneumonia.  She and I were best friends since 3rd grade at Oak Forest Elementary.  She had transferred from Stevens Elementary.  She had 3 children, Donnie, Jennifer, Vickie and 8 grandchildren.  She lived in Houston all her life except for 3 years in California and 1 year in Mississippi when her husband was transferred.  Her mother lived in their house on Sue Barnett until last year when she passed away.  Her brother Austin and wife Lynda have always lived in Houston, brother Michael and family are missionaries in New Zeland, sister Ann has lived in several towns in Texas and Oklahoma with her husband Jerry who is a Baptist Pastor.  They all also graduated from Waltrip.  Kay and I were very lucky to have grown up in Oak Forest/Garden Oaks.  We had a great life growning up there.  We were also very lucky that my family and her family all knew each other.   Kay was a wonderful and caring person.  Kay lived a full and rewarding life.  She will be greatly missed by all that were lucky enough to know her.

Linda

So sad to hear of the holiday's events, Paige, I believe your loved one's accident (Dave) was on KBTX this morning.  Bad stretch of road, they said.  Some say it was also a bad stretch of road where my son's accident happened as well.  And I didn't know Kay, but it was too early for her to go as well.  So sorry to hear of this.

As for myself, ups and downs the last few months to get through.  I have a feeling 2012 will be a good year for me, something to strive for.  Beau, Burge, Jeanne, Jackie, Ted,  Richard, Paige, Scotty, all, it's been fun reading of all the Christmas happenings, but I'm glad it's past, and on to the New Year

Happity Hoppity New Year to all!!!

Linda, thank you for reporting that sad news. That's what this forum is here for.

Fran said to tell you hello. She remembers Kay McMahan too. It sounds like Kay had a good life and we know that her family will miss her and cherish the memories too.

Paige, we are so sorry to hear of your family's loss as well and know that it has to be extremely hard for your grandaughter.

Our prayers will include all of you.

David Broccolo (Austin, Texas) October 1990 - January 2012

Thank you all for your loving encouragement. Yesterday was long and full of tears and laughter. The innocence of youth, although marred by this tradegy, is resilient as evidenced by the "remembrances" presented by Davey's family and friends. In reality these very young adults and teenagers have been thrown into what should be an "adult only" responsibility. Having drawn from their life experiences, each loved and honored the "Davey" they knew and loved.  Oh that we could view life and also death with that same freedom.

My Meghan, the ever sweet and caring soul, sought to comfort those around her whose hearts ached along with hers. The hugs were tighter and the "be careful" had new meaning. The "I love you" was said more often... all with a desire to convey the depth of our capability to care for another human being.

I want to tell you right here in black and white... each of you has touched my life for the better in one way or another.   Whether face to face, an encouraging word emailed, a forum note or perhaps a prayer voiced in the quiet of your heart...  it is a touch that gives me pause to know your caring beyond measure. Love, in all its degrees, is in my heart for this wonderful bunch we call Waltripians.

So here is a tighter hug and the be careful with a new meaning and...

I love ya'll

Paige

Quiet...before the storm...Beau will be on here before ya know it!

Beau Wann, Jr.

HELLO BOYS, I'M BAAAAACK!!!!!
Been busier than a one eyed long tailed cat in a room full of three legged square dancers...
That and this dang depression been trying it's best to send me into the depths of hell, BUT HELL NO, I WONT GO...Thank the lord, I at least know what the problem is, and sometimes what triggers it...As long as I stay busy, it's not so bad, that and not having to take any meds...thats one of the major culprits...Speaking of staying busy, Cooper and I have added a third school to our week...Lee Elem on Little York, in the CyFair ISD, just outside beltway 8...Long as I can interact with folks, I'm good...and of course Cooper is as wonderful as ever...

Took em to the ranch this past weekend, and they ran amok and asunder and asover...Stopped at the Donut Palace in Navasota, on the way. Got a couple of dozen donut holes to keep the boys enticed about coming back when I turned em loose on the countryside. Also stopped at Chick-fila for some chicken nuggets...then ol boys just love donut holes and chicken nuggets...well duh, who doesnt???

Got to the ranch and turned em aloose...they commenced to marking their territory, almost frantically...I would shake the paper sack that held the delectable delights, donut holes, and they would run back and sit at my feet just almost keel over with anticipation...I'd give em one, and off they'ed run...bounding through the countryside, chasing this or that...what a joy it is to watch them...the golden spires of the waving native grasses are just tall enough to hide coopers body, but not his big ol bouncing beautiful head...He and Jack playing tag, looking back to see if I'm still there...with the donut holes...I hold up the bag and shake it, and here they come, as fast as their legs can carry them...what a beautiful sight...once again at my feet, pleading eyes, drooling jowls...for this small pleasure, I truly am thankful...

Finally got them corralled so we could commence cleaning out the trailers....put em behind the picket fence DD and I built...Jack doesnt like that so much unless we are with him...ol Coop doesnt give a hoot one way or the other, as long as he gets to pick his spot to take a nap, which is anywhere he lays down.
We are readying the place for selling. Gonna have to sell our little piece of heaven...well, little piece of Texas anyway...Just too much to take care of at the ranch, and in Houston...Neither son seems interested in doing much up there. I was hoping to pass it on to my sons, and then to my grandchildren, but life is too busy for them to worry with one other thing.  Plus, and a rather large plus, if one of us gets seriously hurt, or has a serious medical problem like heart/stroke etc, hospitals and emts are too far away. Hopefully someone MUCH YOUNGER will buy it and complete the dream I started...

Catahoula Jack, my other dog, has taken to wanting to ride in the truck and stick his head out the back window, and let his ears flap in the breeze...Looks like Dumbo in the side mirrors...anyway, when I run my errands, he begs with his eyes to go along, so I let him...we've been doing this most of the past year...
When we left the ranch, DD and I were buckled in and Cooper was already asleep on the back seat, and Jack was hanging his head out the window, ears flying, big grin on his face...all of a sudden, DD screams that "Jack has fallen out the window"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heart just about gave out at that exclamation...I stopped the truck, duh, jumped out and there was Jack walking towards us with that "little boy in trouble" look on his face...seems he was no worse for wear, thank goodness...could have been tragic if he had fallen under the back wheel...I was going fast enough for that to not happen, and slow enough for him not to get hurt when he hit the dirt road...wow we were lucky...not gonna let that happen again, and thought I had it under control before it did happen...still cant believe it did happen...he must have seen a rabbit or armadillo, and thought he could just jump out and give chase...we were lucky, very lucky...

Speaking of "one other thing", my youngest, Kevin, whose house burned this past summer, has moved back into a much improved home...wouldnt a knowed there had been a fire...Almost everything that they have dreamed of having in a home, they put into it...Kevin did the contracting, and worked full time at his other job...what a magnificent house it is now...wasnt too bad before either...too many things to mention, but if we get to build a home, we will employ some of the same items...he had surround sound professionally installed where the TVs were going, one in the den above the fireplace, about 60 inches or so, and then an 82 inch one in the media/game room upstairs...it's like being back at the Garden Oaks Theater...sitting on the front row...any of youse youtes ever get really dumb, and sit on the front row???? I tried that once, and just about went blind...Never could understand all those kids that liked sitting on the front row...did they all need glasses???? If they didnt before, they surely did afterwards...

Anyway, 82 inches of TV, mostly bad, is a mite much for me...It is LED/HD, and looks like whoever is on the screen, is rat there in the room with you...Football games are unbelievable...close ups, are to me, not too flattering...I'm not really interested in seeing the pores on the actors faces...I'd rather read a book anyway...Oh, and they got 3 kittens, siblings, to try to replace the two they lost in the fire...it'll keep em busy for sure...

Well, guess I've bored you silly, and I'm getting hungry...Cream of Malt O Meal doesnt last very long in my stomach...
Need some bacon and eggs and grits and biscuits and gravy...but alas, trying to lose a few pounds, causes such hardship on ones palate...guess I'll have an air and cardboard sandridge for lunch...at least I can have coffee...thank goodness for small delights...YEAAAAAA...

Keep the sun at your 6, and ride boldly ride...
Your frien and resident nut...Beauregarde Magillicutty Chauncey Algernon the thoid

Ooooh  Nooooo!  Beau-man, we are all going to miss your adventures out here, around Normangee.  But I do understand....a lot of country living is all work and little relaxation, and that is keeping up with it daily, not just visiting, and that ain't us.....I'm thinking of bringing out the little 'ole  hippie in me, better late than never!  Scarey, my sis says it's always been there.....who'd have thought as I sit in my little school office, working tirelessly for the man!  Ya see what a paycheck will do?

Oh Lord, Paige, I so got turned around and lost and frustrated last night, thinking I knew where an informative work meeting was set up....an hour late, after touring the A&M campus and some young nerd-type got me straighened around...traffic on Wellborn was staggeringly slow, looked like Houston, heading back to hwy 40 thereabouts, back in the woods no less.....I used to be so good at this.

Time has a way with messing with us.  Glad Jack didn't get hurt, we would have had to have a memorial dinner out here.   Take care.

Susan Howard (Bowman)

Hi everybody!  It looks like there was a good group at Fudd's last time.  Sorry I couldn't make it!  It was a choice between being with my friends at Fudd's and some quality time with my grandson and you know who won out!  I missed seeing everyone and hope to get there again soon.  I am looking forward to our mini-reunion on April 14th.

Beau, I am sorry to hear about you having to sell your place.  I've enjoyed reading about it and the adventures you have had there with your animals.  Good luck in getting it sold in a timely manner.

I got my Texas driver's license on Friday, so I guess I am officially a Texan again.  I am just lovin' the weather here - able to be outside almost everyday.  I'm still pinching myself to make sure this isn't just a dream!

Take care everyone and be safe out there!

Beau, that's great news on Kevin and his family getting back into their house. And the fact that they got to make a bunch of updates and improvements is a nice and well earned reward to partially offset all of the heartache and hardship they endured from the fire.

And as you know from our conversation at the last Fudd's get together I completely understand your situation on wanting to sell your place. We've had ours for 17 years and the commitment of time and energy and money gets harder every year. I completely understand and will probably be doing the same thing in the next few years. I was always on a hunting lease in south Texas before we bought the place and will no doubt get back on one when we sell. The beauty of a lease is you just show up and enjoy without the demands of fixing and maintaining everything.

Susan, I've always heard that you can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of the girl! Congratulations on making it official with your driver's license.

Don't want ya discouraged....January is probably an "Oh Sh@@%t!  month after spending for Xmas stuff.

As for me, I have been unable to accomplish one positive thing today, although I've certainly, frustratingly (SP) tried.

There is no justice to Direct TV....I ordered the cheap 29.99 last year, as Michael didn't have his favorite cartoons while visiting, so against my better judgement on Dec. 3rd, went to a "tent" sale at Ace Hardware here in Navasota and they were giving away Showtime free for 1 yr. so I signed up with my credit card they requested.  Well, you probably know the rest.  They also told me when I asked for a copy of what I signed they would bring it out at installation.  I asked the Ace people to install it, so never got one.  Never got a correct billing statement, nor was Showtime honored, large amounts being placed on bills to make me pay.  Well, Michael passed away on Jan. 16th and I was a "basketcase" and asked Mr. Joe King-Fultz of Ace hardware to assist and get it straightened out for me  The 1st time DTV put a 156. charge on my Wells Fargo card, they removed it. then they hit me with 812.33.  I had steadfastly paid what I felt was the correct billing, even though I couldn't get it straightened out and Joe agreed it was correct amount.  Paid til June, when turned off my service,  they cancelled me, and charged my card.  I was told I had to write a formal dispute to WF, and so I did, and they sided with DTV....I'm up to 888. now.  I've contacted the FTC, FCC, sat there while Mr. Joe tried to get them to correct it, ....nothing....no customer service ....my next move is to the Atty. Gen.  this has been the nightmare from H. one year later nothing resolved, today WF says nothing can be done....of course, I wanted to tell them I won't be paying this bill, but you know who this reflects on....Life is not a bowl of peaches, I must be dumber, or they are shiftier!  Direct TV are shiesters as far as I'm concerned.

On to S.S. office, took off to get proper information, so I don't get an offset because of school pension, and felt like I wasted my time there as well.  Come to the conclusion, I will have to quit work, in order to not establish that little 'ole pension of 5 yrs.  Will take a hit on the money already in the pension account.  Now I am pretty much ready to quit next mo. I'll be the ole 65, but I don't want to reduce my SS (Husband's) down to shreds.....Oh Drat!

Next I am in such need of some cute well-made jeans, Liz Claiborne petite is my fave, could'nt find those and I've been looking, went several more places, as well, yikes, am I shorter and fatter?...Shopping is not convenient out here, must go 30 mi. to the mall. So I'm done.  Noticed there are quite a few people in the Baker family going down.....Geeez, hard to stay positive! Won't even go into the dogs and their problems.  But for right now, I just feel better getting it off my "chest".

So Beau, we can miserate together, hoping ya skip right out of your situation.

Robert Derrick

Hey Beau, probably won't watch the SB this year. Driving and pulling a new travel trailer to Florida that week for my grandson's 4th birthday. But having watched all the playoffs, I still think the Texans should be there and could win. But, should of would of, you know how that goes. But they will get some respect next year.

Kay, thanks for that feedback on Direct TV. Sorry you are having so much trouble. I have been thinking about switching from Dish to Direct. Maybe I will think a little more.

01/24/12 07:59 PM #4675

Teddie Jordan

Kay, so sorry to hear you've been scammed. Direct TV is a big beauracracy like all of these companies now days, but you are on the side of being right, and I think  you will eventually get to the right person within their company and tell your story and they will figure out that they srewed up. It almost sounds like the local guy you signed up through is the scoundrel.  Hang in there girl and I guarantee you it will work out!

Robert, good for you and Kay. Sounds like a fun excursion and a good destination. Now when I'm on the highway and pull up beside someone pulling a travel trailer I'm going to be checking them out a little extra to see if it's yall. What are you towing it with just so I can narrow it down as I approach? If you see a yellow dog hanging out the back passenger window drooling, with his ears flapping in the breeze, it's me and ol' Gus.

And Beau, don't be so sensitive. Even though we're getting on up there in years, and theoretically are supposed to have all of this extra time, I think I speak for a bunch of us when I say that I'm busy and mobile and don't get to check this thing on a regular basis. So just throw your two cents worth in there everybody and let's keep this wonderful thing that Jackie has created alive and healthy.

01/24/12 09:04 PM #4676

Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

Kay, I've found that when you include the name and address of the attorney general of the state where customer service is located, the attorney general of the state where the "offender" is incorporated and the attorney general of Texas, letting the "offender" know you've sent copies of your complaints to those officials, I get pretty immediate response and refunds.  I actually rarely send the letters to those officials, as I've found from past experience that the offender is going to respond way before any real action from the officials would happen.  Charles normally gets on the phone with DirecTV when I show him that they've charged us for a package without our having authorized it, and he gets pretty good results from his "conversations" with them.

But, I'm with Teddy, it seems that the new service would have been responsible for notifying DirecTV just as happens when you switch electric service.

01/25/12 07:18 PM #4677

Robert Derrick

Teddie, it is a white Passport and I pull it with my 2003 chevy silverado (silver). Never over 60 MPH. So honk and waive and I will look for Ol'Gus.

Kay, you can include my name on your list of non-subscribers to Direct. Until you get satisfaction.

Jimmie Lee, I pictured Charles when I read your post. I am sure he could have them offering the service free when he got through with them.

Beau, I have had luck asking the first real person I could get on the phone (and that takes a while) if he or she has the authority to waive charges before I explain my issue. If they don't, I ask for their supervisor, Make note of their names in case they just drop your call. Ask where therir call center is located.  When I finally get some one to say "yes" I start the complaint. Plan on spending a while on hold etc and be sure it is a toll free number. Beau, you have a good menory. I mentioned our trip to Florida when we first got the travel trailer last year. You have a mind liske a steel trap.
