Goot eefenink mine waltripians,
I have good news, and bad news...ok, first the bad news...Mah baby ducks have flown the coop...and I might add, after all I have done for them...braces, drivers licenses, cars, college education, and they treat me like this...KIDS, er DUCKS, whatcha gonna do...I do sort of miss seeing them paddling their little ducky butts around the cement pond...I guess they coulda left because their feets, and their little ducky butts were turning white because of the chlorine...I guess I coulda been accused of trying to introduce a new species of ducks...the chlorine quacker...
Jack and Big Oliver tried to make friends with them, but I think the ducks knew that had they complied, it woulda been duck soup for sure, and that wouldnta been too ducky...Gang of 5 Ducks, would swim around the pool along the edge, that is until ol Catahoula Jack would approach the edge, then they would swim to the middle, or just swim too fast for ol jackie boy...Oh man, he wanted a duck sandwich sooooo bad...they were running him around the pool, to and fro, drivin that ol boy crazy...he was going nuts, and running out of steam, when I guess the ducky 5 decided to ratchet up the game...they let him get close, then sped up out of reach, and then slowed down again, to let him catch up...finally, they let him get oh so close, and as he was leaning out over the cement pond, teeth and taste buds all a quiver in anticipating filet au duck, when ol catahoula lost his balance and into the drink he went...
I was laughing so hard, it was hard for me to launch the life boats..(these particular life boats were from a ship called the Titanic, maybe youve heard of her), anyway ol Jack made it to the steps, where he was sputtering and shaking the water offin his ownself...he was none to happy about his near drownin experience...Big Oliver saw all this, and headed for the door...Olie did not want to repeat the process ol Cat Jack had gone through...oh well, as they say in History 101, "it's all history now"...clever, dont you think??? But, AH DO MISS MAH BABY DUCKS...
Now for the good news...Cooper had his regular class on Monday, and all went as per usual...wonderful...Wednesday, went to another "VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON"...I took cooper this time, it was allowed...and as per usual, Coop was the center of attention...never heard so many "oohs and aaahs" as all fawned over him...of course, he thrives on that kind of attention...at home, He never begs at the table, or even comes to the table for food, and he did his self proud wednesday...as I was eating, he just layed at my feet, unconcerned...I did sneak him some tasty tidbits though...THEN, wednesday at 2, Cooper and I went to Herod Elem to see how the Autistic kids would react to him and he to them...I was a tad apprehensive, having never worked, or been around autistic kids...But, not to worry..
The teacher and assistants and DW brought the kids out one at a time...and all but two petted cooper...I let them hold the short loop on the leash while I held the long end, and let each child walk cooper, or at least the ones that wanted to...that seemed to be the right thing to do...those that walked him seemed to enjoy their "new responsibility and new friend"...as they petted coop, the teacher would ask them questions like, "how does it feel" (when they petted cooper), and each and everyone said, "happy"...not soft, but "happy"...how cool to equate touching to an emotion...kinda like when I touch the vacuum, "sad"...
All went well...the teacher, a young man, and his assistants, and DW herownself, are so dedicated and care so deeply about these special children...WOW...And Cooper was such a trooper...Cooper the Trooper...he performed magnificently...youse woulda been as proud of him as DW and I are, just to watch him work...he was ever so gentle, and seemed to know who he was working with...wasnt pushy, or aggressive in anyway...when a child didnt want to touch him, Cooper would sit down and raise his right paw for a shake...if that didnt work, he would lay down and roll over on his side and lay perfectly still, and all without my saying a word...
Sometimes that would work and the child would respond with a light touch...Ol Coop is such an amazing dog...and he is autistic...thats not a joke either...he is...different for sure...but the most loving and gentle creature God ever put on this earth, and now he has found his niche...hooray
All you teachers out there, dont ever have to wonder if "you made a difference" in your lives...YOU MOST CERTAINLY DID, AND THANK YOU FOR CARING FOR THE YOUTES AS YOU DID...sure takes someone special to be a good teacher... and good administrator too...
Dont know if this will be a regular gig for the Coop, but it's a start...I hope he helped those kids, we will see what we will see I suppose...I certainly dont want to waste the teachers time, or undo any progress...
Well, it's getting late er so I will wrap it up...hope to see youse youtes at Fudds next tuesday...This is "FIRST SATURDAY"(arts and crafts and honey buying day) in the Heights, and Bellville and probably quite a few other places, so get out and enjoy...prolly ride pegasus up to Bellville Saturday...
on a sad note, HAROLDS in the heights is going out of bidness...BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...wont be much left of our childhood days...I have been buying from Harolds since the 50's and just recently bought a shirt and tie there...first Kaplans, and now Harolds...no Sakowitz, no Battlesteins, no Monkey Wards, no Oshmans, no Rumpleheimers, no Farrells(sp), no Woolworths, oh man, now I AM depressed..."say goodnight dick"..."Goodnight Dick"...
