Beau what range do you go shooting. I used to go to eastex indoor range for years and

Hot Wells for long guns. Have not been in a long, long time. They opened up a range on

Spring Cypress and Charlie Cox one of my friends are going pretty soon.

Back when the Cowboys had Tom Laundry a bunch of us guys would watch the game

and make chili , beef stew or what ever for the games. One time we were making stew

and we did a Beau and Diane thing and one would add cayenne, another jalapenos,

and still another would add something else hot. When we finished the dog would not

eat it either.

Beau where is my angel biscuit recipe?

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Jim, now DW and I either go out to eat, or only one is allowed in the kitchen during meal preparation...
As for shooting, I belong to Bayou Rifles; we have a range at eldridge and addicks dam, just behind conoco about a block from I-10. The bad news, is that no center fire rifles are allowed; handguns and 22 rifles, and muzzle loaders. We have another range down 15 miles south of the astro dome, called Julliff. You can shoot anything legal out there. The distances range from 7 yards, to 1000 yards...
I also have a friend in Bellville that belongs to a gun club, and sometimes I go shoot with him. Anything legal is allowed there...covered pistol range and covered intermediate 50yd and covered 100 and 300 yard range...
Sometimes I shoot up at my place, which is ok and legal, I just dont like to make a lot of noise up there, at least anything more than the top coming off a beer and lighting a cigar...

I have shot at Hot Wells a few times, because it is so close. BUT, the bad news is it costs 7.50 a gun to shoot there. You take two guns and want to shoot them, it is 15 dollars...I dont go to the range with less than 10 guns...just in case I run into trouble along the way...
I have used Carters Country up north east on Treshwig...
Last time I was there, they have resident guinea hens. They roam between the shooters and the targets on the 100 to 300 yard range, and they are not bothered at all with the noise and bullets whizing just over their heads.  They just keep their heads down and eat at whatever they eat...I was shooting a 45-70 and it was just deafening. Hens never flinched...only thing louder than that was a 308 and a .50 cal blasting away, still not bothered...nerves of steel those little boirds have....

I dont enjoy shooting as much as I use to, takes to long to load and unload the truck, plus I have to clean all the artillery I take, and that takes as long if not longer than the actually shooting of...learning to leave some of em home...although it never fails, "damn, I wish I'd brought that flame thrower..." etc...well, you know how it goes, with any sport or activity...

I am an NRA certified Range Safety Officer, so I do know which end of the gun to grab and which way to point it...
I learned the 4 most important rules from my Dad:
RULE NUMBER 1: Every gun is loaded. no exceptions
RULE NUMBER 2: Do not touch any gun in this house, no exceptions!
RULE NUMBER 3: Never point a gun at anything you dont intend to shoot:
RULE NUMBER 4: Never shoot anything you dont intend to kill...

I am sure that most all in our class were taught the same thing boys and girls alike...
My DI said that a bad word is just like a bullet, it has no brains, once you let er fly, you cant stop it, and you cant take it back, and you cant unfire it...

Oh, did I forget to give you my biscuit recipe???? Well, I think it's classified information...but I can tell you this, it takes 5 cups of flour...some crisco...baking powder...baking soda... sugar, salt...buttermilk and yeast....other than that, I cant tell you...here...on the forum...otherwise my grandmother would smack me with the wooden spoon she carried in her apron...plus just about everything else a body would need...need a band aid??? yup, right there in her apron...a nickel to buy some candy???? yup, shes got that too...Grandmothers were such amazing people...

Whirld woulda been a much better place if theyd let a grandmother design things...eh what???

Well, finished two loads of washing, and one drying and folding, got another load to go, plus just finished syncronized vacuuming...now gotta make cookies for Lucy...she bakes cookies for me, and brings them over in a christmas tin, and when we finish them, I send the tin back with cookies I bake for them...

So, as Rich would say, Dance like no one is watching...sing like you are at Carnegie Hall...sleep like a baby...love your friends like there are no others...
your friend and brother Beau Re Gard C Ephus DOD...

Jim, I think DW would require Beau to leave the house when she cooks. Get him to tell you about the time he fell through the kitchen ceiling while she was fixing a meal. Also get him to throw in the cement pond episodes. They don't have anything to do with cooking but you'll probably hurt yourself laughing.

Keep on dancing,

Hey Burge, I love the photo you posted on New Years Eve.

What's the story on it, or is it a Photoshop job?

John Burgess Webb

hey teddy;that pic is one i saw while surfing the web, dont remember where.it was sort of a calm reminder of how far we have come in the last hundred years.the moon, though cold and lifeless, has inspired many a dreamer and more lovers than you can count.and here we go,streaking the sky.an allegory touching our time.

wheres the biscuits

Very appropriate picture for new years eve Burge. Flying off into the vast unknown wild blue yonder, just like entering a new year full of promise, hope, unknown perils, future developments, and adventures!

Richard Meek '65

Burge and Ted it always amazed me when I think of one of my great grandmothers who grew up in the horse and buggy era and lived long enough to see a man on the moon. What a change to experience. Years ago it was thought provoking that I would fly to Denver, have lunch with a client. Fly back to Houston in time for supper with that just being part of everyday business. The technological changes in our lifetime are truly amazing.

It is late and I am tired, but always enjoy the spice that is tossed in the forum. I drudged up some old fashion technology tonight... I got my son to move all the stuff from a little storage unit to a bigger storage unit ... he lifted, shoved and carried it all. Made me right proud of the boy! Now I can put more stuff in the bigger storage unit. There is a positive here... the "baggage room" will now be a guest room and the storage unit is now the "baggage unit".  Worked the boy right into an early bed. YEAHA! Means I get to go to sleep at 10 instead of mid-night.

The boy you might wonder being mentioned is the Utah Kid come down to Texas for some R&R. Seems that there is some tough stuff goin' own with the family back in Utah and the KID needed to breathe a little familia home air. He must need a lot of that air, cause I am having a little trouble breathing since he came. Now being that a mother's love is unconditional, I can certainly give up some or even most of my air... especially if the air sucker moves, shoves and lifts the baggage to the unit.

He will be leaving soon to go back to let his boy breathe some much needed unconditional love... seems that Daddy's have it too. God is gracious to give us His unconditional love so that we understand how to give it to our babies. This baby and his son are 45 and 17. I think it is a hard time in life for both of them.

Well technology moves on and back breaking work is rewarding sometimes, but that is usually when someone else's back is breaking... I prefer the point and put method. I point and someone else puts... Good Night Tech Tocks... the clock is Teching on another year

Look under "Guess Who" tab.  I just posted some elementary pictures that Brenda Quine sent me.  They are Oak Forest 1951 and 1952 and finally a group picture from Stevens 1954.  Please send me any group pictures you have!

Here's a preview - Stevens 1954 (one of the two classes).  I didn't go to Stevens until 1956 but don't have any pictures!

Have fun ID - I see Richard Brimberry right off!  And Brenda is fourth from the left middle row.

Have a great weekend.

Ya know, the little kids today, are just as little as the little kids in the above picture, when we were little kids...little known fact...little did you know that...speaking of little, werent there some brothers named Little???? Seems I remember a Richard Little at Oak Forest...he was tall, and seemed full growed to me...we were crossing guards together...only got to be a crossing guard for a little while...even got to be "switch corner sargent"...loved wearing the white belt and badge...I was a crossing guard long enough that my mom got to wash that white belt, and boy did it gleam...yet once again, poor grades disqualified me...and I was thinking of going pro too...

Gonna have to make this short. Either computer is acting up, or websites are acting up...I've been losing  connections over and over since last night...

THEY say that we are gonna have inclement weather, rain and cooooold this week...I say, "well ok"...DOD

Oh hey, notice the shoes on the girls on the front row???? Some are "Mary Janes", a couple of "penny loafers" (I was pretty much a "bad penny loafer") and a pair of "saddle oxfords" in the middle!!

I never use to notice girls or womens shoes until Diane and I got married...she wears a size 4 shoe...so now I am more cognizant of womens shoes...I only knew the "Mary Janes" because Diane said, "Hey, there's some Mary Janes"...I thought she was talking about a few of the girls in the picture. I thought, "how did she know any of those kids, since the picture was taken in 1954, and Diane was born in 1953...Hmmmm "doo dee doo doo, doo dee doo doo" (theme from Twilight Zone)...but she was talking about GIRLS SHOES...wasnt there a POLL PARROT brand???
I know there was Buster Brown..."I'M BUSTER BROWN, I LIVE IN A SHOE, AND THIS IS MY DOG SPIKE, HE LIVES THERE TOO"...

Beau I forgot about crossing guards in school.

I was also a crossing guard at Garden Oaks.

Funny how you forget things then something

or somebody reminds you of a person or event.

One more despicable miserable excuse for an animal rears it's ugly head...what a tragedy today...matters not where you sit politically or in any other ideology...despicable behavior of this sort is just unacceptable in a civilized society or in any society...at least in the society we all grew up in...always some fruitcake has to just try to destroy normalcy for all of us...mine and Dianes prayers certainly go out to all involved in todays tragedy in Arizona, as well as, I am sure, all that take part on the forum, as well as any and everywhere civilized people reside...all involved will be added to our prayer list at church...I certainly hope that all those that werent slain, make a complete recovery...just unbelievable...

Keep Carolyn Lamb and Barbara Lamb and their families in your prayers.  Their mother was put in a hospice a day or so ago, and she just had a stroke.  She and Mr. Lamb have been married 65 years.  Very hard time for him and his girls.

Burgess and all you other gear heads. Look at the web site for the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska. I  think i would like to start building an engine just case they can be so beautiful.

01/09/11 09:06 PM #3623

Beau Wann, Jr.

Lloyd, saw in todays paper a NEW CADILLAC STATION WAGON, supercharged V-8, with 556 HP and goes from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds...hmmmm...I guess so you can get to the store and back so the ice cream doesnt melt and the produce doesnt turn brown...get the kids to soccer practice at warp speed and home again...cant imagine what GM could be thinking...couldnt be much of a towing vehicle, only weighs 4390 pounds...they call it a midsize wagon...heres the good news, you can pick one of these babies up for a mere pitance of 62K$$$ +TTL...I think I will pass...of course if you had one of these, you could pass just about any vehicle on the road...

The 2011 Ford F150 has 4 choices of engines from 3.7 L to 6 or 7 L...they are Cleveland motors...same folks that put out the 351...I can tell you the V-6 3.7L I have is a screamer if you need it...plus I get around 18 MPG in the city and almost 30 on the hwy, although I havent had it out on the hwy for any extended length of time...

the last truck an 07 had a V=8 and had no power at all...so they have improved them considerably...plus, as you stated, they are a thing of beauty...the heads on mine are very large, they  look like the 348 or 409 heads. There's a 30 something Hotrod over in my hood, parked at the bidness on the corner of Mangum and Pinemont. It is orange...dont know what kind of motor, havent gotten close enough to it, but it does have 3 duces...thats what I'd like to build, a 32 roadster with whatever kind of motor I could put in it...saw a 426 Hemi in the crate for 8K $$...Probably not a good time to put out that kind of money for something thats just gonna sit in the garage, or get 8 MPG everytime you crank it up...but I can dream cant I???

thanks for the tip lloyd, engines are fine in so many ways, from piston driven monsters with 3000 hp to gossemer micro engines.remember the steam engines that were so much a part of the story in "the african queen" and "sand pebbles"? the beauty of genius.

this is a v8 cylinder head with 'rotary valves'.there is no need of poppet valves, springs or cam shaft. the spherical valve is treated with a coating right out of the space age and only discovered recently, solving the problem of carbon deposits ruining the seal that must be maintained during combustion.there is no oil above the cylinder block,a sealed roller bearing at each end of the rotary valve provides lubrication.no bossy timing or bent pushrods,no valve 'float' and piston damage.something nice for future "hot rodders"

post scrip:

to my friends who are deeply and personally grieved by the nihilist attack on such a lovely and sincere person.i feel a loss when i watch this story.i dont understand.but i know it was an evil done to moderation and grace.

I love it that no matter how much we know, there are still many ways to make things better and better. I saw a great PBS documentary about Packard. Never appreciated that brand but now if I could find a V12... In the neighborhood for sale a 55 Chevy sedan yellow and white, and a 56 Dodge Purple/maroon  2 door hardtop. Wish I were in Tyler today for the snow. Stay warm Burgess.

I am gonna pass on the trip to Fudd's tonight. I am still recouping from the "Croup-ie Yuk" and don't want to spread it around any more than I already have. I am trudging to work and hopefully accomplishing some good during the hours I spend earning my pentence.

Utah kid (Tim) has gone back to his lair. It was a whirlwind visit and I think I am still rattled abit by the onslaught. I think I have said it before, but God knew a secret when he gave Mothers the gift of "unconditional love" for their children... otherwise we would ... let's not go there...

God is Good... all the time ___ All the time... God is Good (even when I think He has lost His way)

Ya'll have fun tonight... and know that I am laughing and smiling with you!
