I think I may see my '55 Chevy sitting out front.

The one that Fran and I went to the Prom in!

Great picture and many great memories there Jackie, Prom, 10th and 20th reunions. Thanks.

Hey Sis J...thanks for the picture...if you notice the vacant lot across the street from the shamrock, on the right side of the picture, they built the Ramada Towers...my dad was the ironworker foreman on that job...it was the first lift slab job ever...owned by none other than Mr GEORGE GOBEL, the classic funny man hisownself...I dont know if they have torn it down yet, but it was closed for years because the design became unstable...Mr Gobel visited it once and my dad got to meet him...he was my dads favorite funny man...

My uncles all worked on the Shamrock when it was built around 1951 or so...when the pool opened, it was one of the largest in the whirld, and they had a ski boat pull some skiers in it...I think I swam in it once...maybe...also do you remember the Hall there that we had the prom???? and the subsequent 20th reunion???? THE EMERALD ROOM...

when my beloved was at Texas Womens Hospital in 1987, we sadly got to see it torn down from her room window...it was a stubborn old structure, they tried dynamite, and the building just shrugged and said, "is that all you got"???? So they had to bust it down with cranes and wrecking balls...took em quite a spell too, as I recollect...sorry to see a part of Houston history removed...I guess thats progress...bah humbug says I...

Gettin closer and closer to S hour...(S=Santa) for all you believers out there...that and the birth of our Lord and Savior...We, Diane and I, will be at Christmas eve services, together, like we have been for the last 28 years...one of my favorite moments of the year...wish I could take our critters with us...they are family too...but I guess the Lord takes special care of em...Well, he did send em to our house now didnt he, so I guess he knew perzactly what he was doing...

I gave Jack his Chirstmas present early, just because he was looking sooooo cute...he came in and handed me a package of catnip toys for the cats...so, I gave him another rubber chicken...now I wish I hadnt, because he is driving me crazy with squeeking it and bringing it too me to throw so he can fetch it, and over and over...
Oh wait, there it goes, in my boot...good boy jack...

Peaches, one of my little kitties, likes to lick the ice in your drink, or drink whatever youre drinkin, out of YOUR glass...I shooed her off, and she just muttered as she stalked off...ever now and again looking back over her shoulders at me, glaring her little kitty glare...thought I was home free...but noooooooo...I was watching an old movie, The Human comedy, with Mickey Rooney...good wartime/homefront movie...anyhoo, I wasnt paying attention to my drink, and Big Oliver had jumped up on the end table and when I looked, he had stuck his head way down into my glass, (plastic togo cup)...just as I couldnt believe my eyes, his head got stuck in the cup, and he raised up and got water and ice all over his face and head, and the end table and the floor and the couch and just about everywhere else you could possibly get water...dang near drowned hisownself...got the cup off his head, and he just licked the water from his nose and chin...his fur is so thick, with an undercoat, the wet never gets to his skin, so he doesnt know he's wet...much like a polar bear...

Big Oliver stalks off, mutterin to hisownself, and glarin at me thinking I had done this foul deed to him...so off he goes, jumps up on the table where the manger scene is and tumps over the camel and ALL THREE wise men and jumps in his basket and curls up and goes to sleep...I dont know why he knocks the camel and the three wise men over, but he does every time he gets up there...that ol boy is curious, curiously strange...

Now, Annie-bob has pushed my wallet and keys and loose change and anything else she can push, smooth off on the floor...never a dull moment around the Wann Zoo...

Guess I will sign off for now...nights seem to get more reverent and serene as the magic hour approacheth...I know, it's just in me head, but it is there...
so, take care and be merry...
and dance like no one is watching...DOD

Christmas Eve was a night of song that wrapped itself about you like a shawl. But it warmed more than your body. It warmed your heart... filled it, too, with melody that would last forever.

Great picture Beau. The decorations are beautiful.

I will always have a special place in my heart for Oaks Presbyterian as I spent much time in that sanctuary growing up. We have always had a picture of the church hung in our home.

And we walked that ailse in joy when Fran and I were married there 45 years ago.

Merry Christams everyone!

A beautiful Christmas morning... family over for breakfast and opening some presents. I got everything I wanted, love from everyone! I will stay home today and off the streets although I'm sure all the drivers will be in a better mood. I hope that each of you will revel in the joy of birth of our savior.

BRRRRRRRRR....it was and is a cold blustery day...rained for 3 hours last night...shucky darn, it hasnt rained 3 hours in 3 months here...but the weather here today was just like I like it for Christmas, cold and windy and overcast...dont  know why, but that's Christmas to me...

Hey Teddie, I wish I had met Diane 45 years ago, but then she woulda been 10, and I'da been in jail...but we found each other as fast as we could, and most likely in the Lords time frame...thats where we were married...and where I was baptized...and became an elder...I just love that sanctuary...Diane and two other ladies are the ones that bought new decorations, and did the decorating...not a lot of stuff, but just simple and beautiful...I took that picture with my new Canon T2i...that camera is just amazing...grace...

I'm with you Lloyd, I just wanted family love today and or friends also...dont need anything else...had Christmas Dinner at Dianes Mom and Dads...it turned out ok, except I hated the mashed potatoes...mashed potatoes, are supposed to taste like POTATOES, with butter and gravy on them...Dianes idiot nephew made them, and he put in about 10 pounds of garlic...you could smell the potatoes all the way to our house...and someone else made biscuits...er...small brown hockey pucks...had no flavor whatsoever, except real strong wheat...probably the worst mashed potatoes and biscuits I have ever had the displeasure of crossing my lips...

Now, to me, mashed potatoes and biscuits and gravy constitute 90 percent of what the meal should be...the turkey and other stuff, are extra...oh well, I made good gravy and good chocolate chip cookies...well not to be eaten together...but it couldnt a been any worse than the potatoes and biscuits...
My little friend Lucy next door, made us some chocolate chip cookies and a loaf of homemade bread today...she brought it over and was so excited...I made some cookies for her too, plus we filled a stocking with goodies...she is such a delight...if she were mine, I would just spoil her no end...

Gave all the cats a catnip toy each, along with some very potent catnip...had a bunch of stoned cats laying around the house today...Big Oliver not only knocked over the three wise men, and the camel, but every other living creature in the manger scene, along with Mary, Joseph, and the angel...onliest thing left alone, was the baby Jesus...very astute of him wouldnt you say...well, I'd at least left the angel alone too...

Jack and Cooper been in the house holding down the couch...gave them each a bone for christmas...Jack got into the catnip...that ol boy thinks he is a cat...as well as the hall monitor...
He and Cooper have been acting goofy the last couple a days...what am I saying, they act goofy all the time...Jack wanted me to go out in this blizzard and sit in the swing with him...I dont think so...TOO DANG COLD...

All in all, it was a good day...seemed long, until now that it's over...seems too short...me and the missus napped during A Christmas Carol, and part of the Dallas game...I was sure hopin that Dallas would pull it out and win, and they almost did...but again, almost only counts in hand grenades and horseshoes...whens the last time you heard that expression????

Ok, gotta go bring in the aloe vera and allysium and petunias...I'd let em phreeze cept my beloved would be upset if I did...soooo I will sing of for now...might be back later...so theres my warning...Your friend and brother
DOD...

Good morning from Manhattan, KS!  It's cold, but no snow ------

Enjoyed all the Christmas wishes and pictures on message forum - just warms my heart -- that's what it's all about - y'all are just awesome!  And sounds like everyone had a good Christmas.  I certainly did -- Christmas in Houston and then here in rolling hills Manhattan on Sunday!!  Manhattan reminds me so much of Austin --- beautiful place - hill country and it's also the home of University of Kansas - so lots of students like UT.

My daughter's house sits on top of a hill overlooking Scenic Drive and all of Manhattan -- gorgeous view -- and especially on New Year's Eve.  We'll be able to see all of the firework displays from all over town just sitting at the top of their driveway!  Have done this the past two or three years and also at 4th of July.  It goes on for hours and the fireworks are outstanding!

Also just for the curious -- flew out of Hobby.  Did the same at Thanksgiving -- at that time they didn't have the new security system, but now they do.  They had many machines and I thought for sure I was going to have to go through the xray.  But nope --- just the metal detector and I didn' set it off!  So no xray or pat down ---  many were going through xray and getting pat downs --- I was expecting this big drama --- NOTHING!  Guess I have that "Grandma" look and no threat!!!  That's a little depressing ------

Everyone have a wonderful and healthy New Year -- and yes, 2011, Paige I'm with you - just couldn't be.

Hugs,

J

P.S. BroBeau, great camera and great pics - Santa was good to you!  I had to chuckle at your knot picture -- yes, isn't it a wonder how all those cords get so knotted - it must be the knot fairy!

"Vegetarian- Old Indian word for bad fisherman"

Dorothy (Fowler) Montgomery has been in town this week and her  brother Jimmy Fowler, his wife

Loren and Allison my grandaughter and me met at Chili's in Tomball for lunch today.

The Fowlers lived two doorsdown from us and we had some good times together . Their father

played a mean game of poker and so did Jimmy and Jackie (another brother).

Dorothy said I took her to get her driver license when she turned 16 and that my mother

made her wedding cake.  I can not remember that far back.

Any way it was nice to see both of them and Jimmy's wife.  Jimmy also graduated from Waltrip

but he hasn't got in touch with anybody yet. Dorothy is heading back thursday and Jimmy

lives in Magnolia .I will be in touch!

WOW !! Look at that organ... can you imagine actually being able to play it... hands AND feet doing the  Hallelujah Chorus. Too cool. Love the pix Lloyd.

I am finally recovering from the "Yuk". The cough is lingering with some congestion, but I finally slept for a full 8 hours last night. I have been without sleep of more than an hour at a time for more than two weeks. I am humming my own Hallelujah Chorus (still can't sing).

The little cottage on the prairie is having a visitor. My son, Tim (the Utah kid), is coming to town for what may be a prolonged visit. I hope to bring him with me to the next Fudd's. I doubt that he will settle again in Texas, but a "life" break for him is due. When you think our way, prayer is coveted.

Jack, your success is fabulous!!! What happens now? How is the "other party" doing?

I suppose I better get to work... if you can call what I do really work... lol  Geeze, I love my job!

Hey Richard... I found the definition of Sommelier [suhm-uhl-yey] I told you about...

"A fancy pants wine guru who uses flowery language, absurd comparisons, and advanced technical jargon only a chemist would understand to describe the wine he just ordered".

I am glad you are a Sommelian, which if I understand correctly is one who just drinks the wine and doesn't talk about it too much...

Well "Happy New Year" to ya'll... Enjoy and Be Safe.

May you all have Love, Hugs and Kisses under the Fire Works... Paige

Found some mistletoe in the backyard. It worked! I got a kiss! If you want to see a fantastic organist check out youtube Cameron Carter, I think . I'll go look myself and if wrong report back. Hes a young  guy, sez he practices so hard each day he has a hard time maintaining his weight even drinking a gallon of milk each day. Our organist is a very good musician plays piano and sings with his son . After the final AMEN, he plays the Postlude, Ferrell and I remain in our seats until he finishes, although everyone has rushed out. Music soothes the soul. Beau did you get a Christmas concert from your pianist an her violin playing friend? Paige how did all the events at your church sound?
