Cold and blustery Morn to ya,
The VA cemetery is quite a sight...specially on an early frosty morn just as the sun is peeking over the horizon...hallowed ground for sure at anytime...
found a couple of pictures of Oak Forest in the snow storm of 73...

Black Jr Hi looking east on Lamonte

Here is the 43rd side of Oak Forest Elem

This is Whites looking south across 43rd...          Looking west down 43rd towards Northwest
                                                                             Hardware and OF Elem...

Of course we all saw this in the snow of 59? methinks that was the year...

It's shows it snowed in feb.1960 on this picture. And 1973 was a blast . We skipped work

and had snowball fights all over Oak Forest. The grownups were worse than the kids playing

in the snow.

I am awake and cold this morning. Thank goodness we usually get warmer during the day. My mandolin group played at a party yesterday. A great place near Spicewood Texas called Shade Tree Potter. A beautiful hill country setting, wonderful house, workshops and gallery. There was a table full of good things to eat too. There werre nine of making noise, I liked the Charlie Brown Medley the most. About 50 people in the audiance.. I don't know if it was the music or the wine they were drinking, but the people all said they enjoyed the music we played. I think that we will have a quiet Christmas this year, our children will be visiting their in-laws. Everyone be safe and have a great Christmas Season!

Lloyd...cold here also...Somewhere around Spicewood, is a camping facility called Krauses Springs...It is phenomenal...huge tall cypress trees, some as big around as the redwoods..almost...but the tops all look like they were cut off evenly at the same height...Dont know if the place is still open, but they use to have springs running out of the ground, into a swimming pool, that was at 55 degrees, and that overflowed down a fern and moss covered cliff into a small river or creek...when there was no drought, it was wonderful and flowing...lots of little fish to nibble on your toes...use to take my boys there camping back in the late 70's...they had rv hook ups and showers and bathrooms etc...cost 6 dollars a day...back then...Oh, you also had to drive across a creek to get to it, and there was no bridge...

How did you all get your mandolin group together???? I would like to get a group of muscians together here, just for fun fellowship and commraderie...Guess I will check at the local guitar store here...the younger crowd wants to do it for future fame and fortune...I would only be interested in the fortune part of it...can one be an annonymous rock star???? Probably just an annonymous rock in my case...

Dont know what we will be doing for Christmas, other than church stuff...have our Christmas eve services, as we do every year... the sanctuary is decorated simple but beautiful...since the church faces south, we get the morning sun through the stain glass windows at the morning service, and if there is anything else going on later in the day, we get the afternoon sun on the other side...the sanctuary is just bathed in glorious sunlight...looks ethereal ...we had our usual 40 suspects at services yesterday...we put together "seaman boxes" for the merchant mariners that visit our port...DW says Oaks has been doing that for as long as she remembers...Oaks was one of the first to do that, now there are some 250 to 300 groups participating...we had 47 boxes from our little country church in the city...last year, all toll, there were 10,000 boxes assembled and collected...dont know how many will be this year...

Each box contains items such as toothpaste, deoderant, toothbrushes, soap, playing cards, shaving accessories, shampoo, candy, nail clippers, combs, bandaids etc...well, you get the picture...items they probably cant get at sea but need and use everyday...

Havent been out on patrol this frosty morn...maybe it will get above freezing soon, then we go...both boys have been dancing around antsy to go, as per usual...
on our patrol Saturday, DW went with us, and we saw two coopers hawks and a muskovie duck...one hawk was sitting on the Bolivia street bridge, and the other, (mates) was on the drain pipe behind the bridge and the duck was under the bridge...got a couple of pics of the three of them together...not real good, cause the camera is not great at distances, a problem we will soon rectify...going to buy the canon t2-i...anyone have that one yet???? I have heard and read only great things about it...Camera Exchange has a great special on it with two lens...

see the hawk on the pipe beside the bridge at the top, and the one under the bridge on the drain pipe, just above the duck on the rock???? one on the drain pipe just under the bridge and behind it  is kinda hard to see, but he or she is there...I got closer, but could not get all three in the picture...I know, boring stuff...but to me, this is a Christmas present...everyday is Christmas, if you look for it...to my simple mind, every day is a new day, every step is a new step...even if you limp...
The hawk at the top flew down to the right of the picture on the bank of cole creek...musta been on a fishing trip, but didnt catch anything...this might have been junior learning to hunt...

stay warm EOD

Here are some pics from a Polish Weihnachtsmarkt in Potsdam, the old city west of Berlin, where all the castles are. These castles are very close to where I live in the southwest of Berlin, by car about 20 minutes.

On the red carpet artists had their performance.

Polish Xmas songs (choir in the back), the place of this marked is called Kutschstall - carriage or coach shed of the prussian emperors close to the castle which now is being rekonstructed.

This group was celebrating a Polish Xmas singing and serving oldfashioned goodies.

T

These girls were serving us these dishes on little plates - very tasty!

They were telling us about Polish Xmas traditions and we heard all the beautiful songs like gloria in excelsis. And I bought an angel - handmade in Poland.

Finally Rich, this is a link to the gallery you found on MSN, where you can spend the night for 1000 EURO and if you are lucky you even can win a  night:

Love all the pictures!  We have a lot of snow in Indy, too!  There are 6 inches in my yard right now and we are expecting another major hit tonight and tomorrow!  It was below zero last night and will be about 15 as a high today!  The sun was out all day yesterday and is out this morning, so the snow is beautiful!  I don't mind driving in the snow at all, but ice is a different story!  I have a 4 wheel drive SUV and it is great in the snow.  I had an open house on Sunday and it was snowing like crazy - no one came (DUH) - but I enjoyed being out in the beauty!

If someone will tell me how to get started putting pics on the message forum I would love to do that.  Can't seem to find the right place to do pics for the forum, although I have plenty on my profile page.  Sometimes I am a little technologically challenged!

Have a wonderful day and stay warm!

OK, THIS TIME WITH FEELING...I AM BEGINNING TO HATE THIS COMPUTER CRAP...I TYPED IN ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUSAN, AND GOT TO THE END, AND IT ALL DISAPPEARED...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRG...I dont know how many times that has happened...sure is aggravating!!!!

Ok susan, and any of youse other youtes can take notes, first send me your American express card....nah, just funnin ya...your Visa or Master Card will do....never a serious moment for me is there...

Ok, here goes...at the top of this box on the left side is a small box, then the woird "Source", and then another small box, (looks yellow to me)...click on that 2nd box, and it will bring up another box with the woirds "Browse and Upload"...click on "Browse"...that will take you to all your folders...mine is labeled ME...click on that, well, not you, cause it's mine, but double click on yours that has all your folders in it...that should bring up all the separate folders, one containing your pictures, double click on that one, and it will bring up all your pictures...

double click on the picture you want, and it will take you back to the box with "Browse" on it and put it there...it might take a few seconds before it comes up, but it will...when it does, it will be too large, so out to the left side of the picture is a small box that has the numbers 624 or close to it, put the cursor to the right of the last number, and then hit backspace to clear the 3 numbers out of the box...

then just type in 200 or 250, or 300 up to 400 methinks....I start with 200 just to see what it looks like...if it is too small, I go up in increments of 50 till I get it like I want it....

then go over to the "upload" box, and click on it, and it will put the picture on the forum...
If you have already typed in text before you put your picture on, after the last line that you type, hit "shift" and "enter" at the same time...that will take you to the next line...if you just hit enter, that will double space it, much like I have done

here...

When you get the picture on the forum, you can further enlarge it by just clicking on it...that will bring up little boxes along the edges of the picture...click on one of the boxes in the direction you wish to stretch the picture...click on the small box, and hold the clicker down and move the mouse in the direction you want to go...the picture will not follow until you turn the clicker loose...then the picture will go to where ever you stopped the mouse...

if you decide you dont want the picture, or it's the wrongest one, just back space and it will disappear...then you can start the process over again...If I can do it, anyone can do it...

Ok class, take down the homework assignment written on the board, have it by friday...there will be a quiz on chapters 4 and 5 Friday...also bring in your bibibiblybiblibibliography and notes for your term paper so I can check them for something...

Any Questions????

The old hood just aint the same:

HOUSTON -- One person was shot Wednesday afternoon during a robbery at a northwest Houston jewelry store.

It happened just before 1 p.m. at the Sunbelt Jewelry and Loan at 3411 Ella.

The victim may be a clerk at the store, according to initial reports from the scene, but police haven't confirmed that.

At least one suspect escaped.

Three nearby schools, Waltrip High School, Black Middle School and Oak Forest Elementary School, were put on lockdown while police searched the area.

Waltrip had let out early for the day, but about 100 students were still in the building when the shooting happened. They were marched out one by one while police and a witness watched to make sure the suspect hadn't fled into the building.

We're traveling down to Lake Conroe for Christmas get-togethers with Charles' family (about 38 of us now) and what's left of mine (just my brother's family).  I hope y'all have a wonderful Christmas celebration of Christ's birth.

A Christmas message;

Christmas - that magic blanket that wraps itself about us, that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance. It may weave a spell of nostalgia. Christmas may be a day of feasting, or of prayer, but always it will be a day of remembrance - a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved.
