Ted, I'm really glad to see the email that Curt came through his surgery successfully. I know it's only the first in a rough and scary road but it's an important one. Curt, you, Fran and all your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Richard

Thanks, Richard -- he's flying down the road!!  Sorry I missed you at the vets with Liz - I almost took my dogs that Saturday for their shots - but changed my mind.  Cannot believe she's growing so big -- she found a good guy to give her all that TLC!

Yes, good to hear from Teddie that Curt was out of surgery -- keep those prayers flowing -- indeed he does have a long road ahead of him.

Everyone please continue your prayers for Charlie Burkhardt and Lola Croom.  Charlie Burkhardt will have hip surgery on Wednesday, June 9 at Memorial Hermann - Memorial City and Lola is scheduled for her surgery also on Wednesday at Methodist (although I need to check with Scotty to confirm).

Continued prayers for Richard Brimberry and Frank Banning (Henny's brother)

Have a good day -- and as Richard M says - keep on dancing! J

A gentleman in Los Angeles passed away last. You sports fan will recognize his name and are probably aware of his passing. For those of you who may not recognize the name John Wooden take note of it. He was a rare individual. Mr. Wooden was a basketball coach. You might say he was a great one and you would be right. He coached UCLA to 10 National titles. He also coached them to 7 in a row. Both unequaled fetes. What Mr. Wooden had that we need more of was integrity. Early in his career when he took the job at UCLA, his alma mater, Indiana, called and said come coach for us. He declined because he had given his word to UCLA even though it was one of his fondest dreams to coach at Indiana. The most he ever made was $35,000 a year. He never asked for a raise because he thought that was enough. He turned down an offer to coach the LA Lakers. The list of stars  he coached is incredible. He kept thing simple. He had three hard and fast  rules his players always had to follow, no profanity, tardiness or critisizing teammates. There were other life lessons that got tagged on.  He would always tell them that they didn't have to follow him blindly but they did have to follow him. Another one worth remembering is that he told his players, "What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball player". Mr. Wooden was 99 years old. He retired in 1975. It's hard to believe it was that many years ago. I'll never forget seeing the UofH defeat UCLA in the Astrodome. One of the most amazing sporting events I've ever attended. You could literally feel the excitement and tension in the air. which was the brainchild of our own legend Coach Guy V. Lewis.

Coach Wooden was and Coach Lewis is a WWII veteran. Yesterday was the 66th anniversary of D-Day. To use Tom Brokaw's term they are from the Greatest Generation. The remaining WWII vets are passing at the rate of about 1,000 a day now. If you have contact with any that are alive make a point of thanking them.

Look up Mr. Wooden's bio. He was a multilayered man. He used to walk five miles a day reciting Wordsworth's poems.

Keep on dancing,

Rich LH

Rich, everything you said about John Wooden is true. He was not only the greatest college basketball coach ever, but a man of integrity and a man of honor. Fran and I were there as you were at the infamous game between UCLA and U of H in 1968. I was a student at the time, and it remains the absolute best sporting event ever as far as I am concerned. Almost everyone else who watched it on TV or attended says the same thing. It was a game between two undefeated teams, one ranked no. 1 in the nation and one ranked no. 2, and between two of the games best big men, Lew Alcindor and Elvin Hayes. It was and I believe still is the largest crowd ever to see a college basketball game, made possible by the size of the Astrodome. Throughout the game whoever scored next went ahead, back and forth, and it came down to the wire and U of H scored last and won. Not to be forgotten is  the fact that they met again later that season in the final four and UCLA won and went on to another national title. But for that night the Coogs and the " Big E " were the better team.

I must also note that it is a total travesty that Guy V. Lewis is still not in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Howdy youall!!!

Didnt get to see the 68 game with UH and UCLA live! Overseas, we got everything a week later from whence it aired back in the states! Super bowls; Whirld series etc!! Generally we knew the outcome of big events before we actually saw them! No live satellite feed back in them good ol days! Tape delay, I believe it was called!!!! I dont remember anyone being a big sports nut back then, at least in the service! Except for the incorrigible Yankee fans!!! I like the yanks when I was a but a wee lad...Babe Ruth...Lou Gehrig...Yogi Bera etc...

Guy Lewis is one of the winningest coaches of all time!! He was inducted in the Texas Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994, and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007 along with Norm Stewart and Lefty Driesell! But not in the Basketball Hall of Fame, which includes Pro players and coaches as well as amateur coaches and players! I suspect one of the reasons is that them ol boys up noth, dont much care for us sothern boys much, and most everything is run by them ol boys of noth!!! And to me, all points above Dallas FT woth is NOTH or Narth!!!

I use to take Sports Illustrated back about 40 year ago! I got to noticing that not much was spoke about the Southwest Conference! Only if TEXAS happened to be the National Champs, were we spoken much about! So I writ em a letter wanting to know why there was so much "eastern sports writer bias", why come "yall cant talk about SWC more!!! Wanna know what they said????     Well, even if you dont, I'm bound to tell you...they said there were no southern sports writers, and in particular Southwest Conference sports writers!!! WHAT A LAME EXCUSE!!! wHY DIDNT THEY GET THEIR BUTTS ON A PLANE AND COME DOWN TO SEE FOR THEMSELVES??? I believe we had some very worthwhile teams and players and coaches other than Texas and Daryl Royal! I liked both, but they werent the onliest ones!!!!

But alas and alack, no one axed me!!! Does seem ashame that bias against and for, plays a factor in anything, rather than merit!!! Seemed for years, Notre Dame could be O and a million, but still be on TV on Saturday afternoons! But the Coogs had to be a million and O to be on the ten oclock news, and thats even here in their own city! Even the sports writers in the Chronicle and the local TV stations, slight the Coogs and Rice!!! The Coogs new baseball stadium is a good one! Well, it isnt new anymore, but we went to a few games when they opened it back in the 90's??? early 2000??? dont remember when, but we enjoyed it! Go see em for yourself!!! Well not this year, seasons over!!!

But then, I guess it boils down to "bottom line" and that is MONEY!!!

Anyone still read the funnies in the Houston Pravda Chronicle??? I couldnt believe over the course of the last year or two how many of the "cartoonists" are leftist, socialist, commies!!! Last week BC piled on the last straw for me to ever look at it again! There were three boxes, of cave drawings, the first had a heart drawn, with "love" under it, and the second had a dagger with "hate" under it and the third box had the dagger in the heart, with "capitalism" under it!!!!  Am I wrong to be offended???? Am I wrong to think that the PUKE CARTOONIST that draws them is MAKING MONEY FROM THEM????? What the hell is that, if that isnt capitalism!!! Amazing how some people think..."do as I say, not as I do"...Well I wont go on about this, but it just incensed me...cartoonists, actors, celebrities singers etc, newspaper people, tv newscasters and politicians, DO NOT LIVE IN THE REAL WHIRLD...

Guy Lewis was born in 1922 in Arp, Texas! Dont know where that is perzactly, but I aim to find out!!!

Went up to the ranch Saturday and Sunday! Man, I am gonna have to suspend all work up there this summer...IT'S TOO HOT... The boys sure get tuckered out quick! Bought em a wading pool, and they both lay down in it from time to time! Ol jack will put his front end down in the water, and keep his back end up and run his face under water like a sub!!! Of course when they get out of the pool, they come over and shake water on me! I guess they are helping me stay cool! I mainly just layed around inside today! I swear, that heat just wears me out, for about two days after Ive been out in it for a day!!! Couldnt be gettin old now could I??? Nah, not me!!!!

Worked on cutting the grass on the roads most of the time! Worked on two of my three feeders! Seems I always have trouble with the timers on them dang thangs!!! Had a 6volt batt in one that required a 12 volt! Dont know how that happened! But got em working again! got one camera working. Ran out of batts for the others! Spinner in the south feeder needs a set screw!!

Hey Teddie, is there a particular brand of feeder, timer, motor, or kind that is better to use, more reliable???? I sure have trouble in the feeder area! I put about 200 pounds of corn and protein in each feeder this sunday, and put out 150 pounds of apple block!! Hope that big ol boy I saw last week, comes back, this time with about 20 pts! Saw a 16 pointer a couple years back, but he was probably pushing his prime of 7 years back then! Someone probably already harvested him, or he died of old age, ie starved to death! I have seen that from time to time! They get past 7 upwards of 9 year old, and their teeth are gone, and they cant eat anymore! Plus they are too old and weak to sire any fawns anymore!

OOF!!! The big wooly lap mammoth has jumped in my lap and is licking my shirt with his sandpaper tongue! Got two cats on each leg, letting me know they have claws! Seems I spilled catnip on my pants and shirt and they are all getting high!!! And my leg is gettin bloody!!!! How did I come to get catnip on my pants and shirt??? Just clumsy!!!

Out on patrol of the hood and Cole Creek, got two new Duck mommys! Looks like the clutches were about 2 to 4 weeks apart! One mommy has 8 ducklings and the other has 10! Cute as can be! If you listen closely, you can hear em peeping! Well, not now, on the forum, but were you to come to cole creek, you could hear em!!!!!

Ok, guess I will sign off for now!

Well Boo Wang, it's good to see that you're in good form today. It should help liven things up at Fudd's tonight.

If anyone is interested in having a Mimosa tree, my sister ,Becky, will be happy to give you one or as many as you would like to have. She has a bunch sprouting in her compost pile. She was going to pull them up but she is holding off to see if any of you utes would like to have any.

Spent my morning in a seminar learning about cyber liability insurance. I'll be happy to discuss it with anyone who is interested. I think I can see the line forming now!

I noticed in the paper this weekend that the Texas Hill Country has the best peach crop they've had in years. Man i don't know if there is anything better than a bowl of homemade peach ice cream. Of course those hill country peaches aren't too bad just sliced and eaten, served on a bowl of cereal in the morning or maybe the piece de resistance'. . .peach cobbler!!!!! One of my grandmoter's used to make cobblers witha buttery, flakey crust that was like a pastry. Serve that warm with a little cream on it I may have to make a trip to Fredricksburg right away! MMMMMM good!!!!!

See all you utes that can get there at Fudd's tonight, the good Lord willlin' and the crick don't rise!

Hospital updates on Curt Walling and Lola Croom -

Here's wonderful news from Nichole - Ted & Fran Jordan's daughter about her husband, Curt ---

Praise God for answered prayers!!!! God answered our prayers in different timing than we thought we needed, but he has indeed answered them!

Dr Blackmon came in and told me to sit down by Curt on the bed! Of course I worried this was bad news but then she gave us VERY VERY good news!!!!!

Curt does NOT have cancer!!!!!!!! I'm trying to grasp this great news and haven't got a lot of information on this YET so I'll do my best to relay the little I know!
He has a very rare benign tumor that presents itself as cancer on tests until it is removed and sliced open and studied by pathology. So, this is GREAT news!!!! We don't have to worry about lymph nodes since NOT cancer!!! It can recur, had to be removed and we will have to monitor for recurrence, but praise our awesome God that Curt does not have cancer!!!!

Curt and I and many others prayed that they would open Curt up and he would be healed and there would be no cancer......our prayers were answered!!!

Excited to find out more details about this sclerosing hemangioma, get rid of the mean migraine Curt has today thats really preventing him from progressing fully today and get him up and about so I can get him home and fully recovered.....but full of JOY!!!!!

Thank you everyone for your prayers, support and encouragement....now smile and share in our praises!!!!

Nicole

Update on Lola Croom -

Scotty said she is in Methodist for blood today and will have her surgery tomorrow - will keep you posted ---

Keep the prayers going --- we've seen the power and glory of God!

Teddie Jordan

Classmates and friends, Fran and I are humbled by the news on our son in law Curt and obviously very thankful. We so appreciate the e-mails and phone calls and expressions of concern and especially all of the prayers. We ask that everyone continue to  pray for Charles and Lynn Burkhardt, for Lola and Scotty Croom, for Skeeter and Theresa Apostolo and their daughter Lindsey, for Marilyn and Gary Jorden, for Richard Brimberry, for Henny and Frank Banning, for Sheryl Knight and her daughter Kim, for Rod and Sharon King and their son Chris, and all others in our class who are dealing with family health issues. As I have said before it is a real blessing to have the love and support of a group of people that you have known for most of your life, and with whom you share not only your age but so much common background. Thank you again Jackie for this website that has made it possible for us all to come back together.

Beau Wann, Jr.

AMEN AND AMEN !!!!!

Teddie and Fran, your absence tonight was conspicuous, but we were with you, and you with us, in spirit of course! Great news for your family!!! yea!!! Small crowd, but nonetheless enjoyable! So good to see all! just such a real feeling of fellowship and friendship and a bond that spans almost 60 years! Hard to believe isnt it!!!! I never thought much about the future before, especially 60 years into it!!! these gatherings, even if it's just two of us, are so rich in history, plus all our classmates are with us, no matter what!!!  I have missed, all these years, the day to day camraderie that we shared, whilst we supped at the fountain of knowledge, known as High School! Well some of you supped, I was on a diet! Thought I knew it all and didnt need to partake of  the Chateau Briand of knowledge!  Little did I know!!!!

Didnt sleep at all last night, so methinks I will retire early! Probably wont again! My mind just will not stop and rest! Maybe I can find some poem or verse to ease and slow my thoughts down! After much studying of myownself, methinks my sleeplessness, is a fear of "ceasing to be"! Not dieing, just not "being", not existing, maybe I'll miss something!!! What could I possibly miss??? Hmmmm!!!! I guess My heart and mind, are just not at true peace yet!

I use to wish for untold wealth and fame, as a youngster! But as I grew older, and hurt more, I wished for the pain to cease, but then, I always hurt, and I am use to it, so I thought, well maybe if my ears didnt ring, but then, they always ring, and I have lived this long with them ringing, so I thought, hmmmm...what would be a good thing to wish for...PEACE...yeah, thats what...Nothing better than that, for sure!!!

Well, guess I will sign off for now...Hopefully I wont be back till in the late moring...but if i do come back in the wee small hours, thats ok...this website kind of connects me to all of you, and thats a good thing...

Peace to you all

your friend and brother Sweet tater beaurcephus DOD

Maybe the verse I am looking for is from the Bible; "Be still, and know that I am God" and so I shall!!!!

It was good to see all of you who came to Fudd's last night. Those of you who weren't there, you were missed. We look forward to your safe and speedy return. You don't have to bring a note from home explaining your absence either. Next month. . .July 13th is the day!

Beau, have you tried Chamomile tea to help you sleep? It's herbal tea so no caffeine to worry about. I find it pretty relaxing. Give it a try Tater. I enjoyed meeting your granddaugther last night. she seems very bright and personable. Remind me of her name again. You and DW have a winner there (like you don't know that).

The Astros came from behind to win last night. They've actually been playing some respectable baseball lately! Hope it keeps up! Go Astros!

Keep on dancing & dance like no one is watching,

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Rich LH, GD name is Haley! She is something alright! She and DW have such a bond, and GS

Taylor too!  Yeah, those that werent at Fudds last night were missed! But lots of health concerns going on with our group, about the same as all groups of our age...High School age...yeah, thats what I'm talking about!!!! Tried to get over to see charlie Burkhardt, but got detained, sidetracked...Hope his surgery turned out better than expected!!! Hey Tony, so glad to see you again! I dont blame anyone for not coming to houston, especially if they live in a nice town like Navasota or anderson or Flynn or Arp...I know when and if we get to move from Gotham City, gonna be hard for me to come back...well, maybe not to elmer fudds to see youse youts!

Took Haley and DW to IHOP for lunch today. Haley and DW sure dont eat very much! I had breakfast for lunch...yea!!!! Someone a ways back, mentioned the dessert they have, and I saw it on the menu...caramel banana cheesecake...didnt have any, but will next time!!!

Saw a lot of Rabbits up at the ranch and crossing the county road. A plethora of Rabbits!!! What if I buy some rabbit food and distribute it around the place???? good idear or bad idear??? I like heppin the wildlife when I can!!! Non hunters and tree huggers call it baiting!!! Really no such thing! If some wildlife isnt harvested, mother nature can be a real bitch sometimes...And it's not nice to fool mother nature!!!! Besides, I wouldnt harvest rabbits, unless I was hungry, real hungry! Rabbit is good though, tastes like chicken!!! Rattlesnake, on the other hand, is kinda stringy, and I dont remember what it tasted like! But If I were to harvest rattlesnakes, there would nt be much left to eat after I blast em with my howitzer!!!!

Hey burge??? You ok???

Anyone have Bernds email address??? Havent heard from him since a blizzard hit berlin last winter!!! Speaking of which, we sure could use a blizzard here, eh!!! Each summer, I gripe about the heat, and wish for cold weather, and then in the winter, I gripe about the cold and wish for warmer weather! Actually, 50 degrees year round would be great, eh!!!

Nap time...didnt sleep again last night...duh!!! Ive tried camomile tea, and sleepy time, and tension tamer etc...dont really like em that much, but dont think they worked anyway...dont remember!   Guess I will have to sit down with John Daniels from time to time!!! I've tried wine, but that doesnt work...oh well, something will surface in that dept...hasnt killed me yet...

Maybe I ought to utilize the cement pond...yuk I hate the smell of chlorine...then why do you have a pool???? It came with the house!!!! And it costs about 8 grand to take one of em out!!! Of course I've poured that much and more into just keeping the damn thing, including one lawnmower and a cell phone...Just got that phone, and it dragged me over to the edge of the pool and jumped in and commited suicide right then and there! Just got it that day too!!!!  I just kinda stared at it laying in the deep end...lifeless...cellless...everynow and again, it would emit a bubble! You reckon it was calling for help???? I finally fished it out of the coldy brine of the cement pond! Blew all the water out with the air compressor! Took it back to the ATT store, and they opened er up and the white dot in it had turned pink! A sure sign that it has been submerged under more than the change in my pocket!!! But the guy at the ATT store, dragged out a bottle of "WHITE OUT" AND colored the pink dot white again! Then he gave me a new phone!!! I dont know what he did with it after that! But now I generally stay away from the pool with my pay phone, and the lawnmower!

More good news concerning Charlie Burkhardt and Lola Croom

I talked to Scotty and Lynn last night ---

Scotty said Lola's surgery went good - not as invasive as they thought it would be.  Took care of the bleeding ulcer and didn't have to remove any of her stomach -- also the nodules that were removed showed no cancer.  He hopes she will be out of ICU today or tomorrow and then a shorter stay in the hospital -- wonderful news indeed!

Lynn said everything went good with Charlie's hip replacement - and looking forward to getting him home soon.

They both thank everyone for their prayers, love and support.

Grand morning to everyone.  We have had a total of 3 in. of rain in my neck of the woods, others with 4 to 6 " with more on the way.  Good news about our Waltrip family - sounds as if everyone is on the mend.  God does answer prayer. Beau, Arp is not to far from my house.  Maybe an hours drive.  Lots of good folks there.  I am trying to wind down here at school since the kiddos finally got out.  I only work half days during the summer so its not to bad.  Sure get a lot done with telephones, parents & the little ones not here.  We've got a whole nuther crop signed up for 2010-11.  Starting with three year olds thru 1st grade.  They are what put the sunshine in my day.  Ended the year with 498.  Just wanted to give a shout out to all.  Have a great day!

Thanks for your mail, Paige. I'm still living, but working very hard. Soon I will write on the forum about my last two months. Greetings to Houston and to Texas from Berlin. The summer has started over here after a long winter!

All is well in College Station. My kids are leaving for Wisconsin today and will be gone for two months... I am sad, but looking forward to a fun summer of my own. Have some plans for a bit of bluegrass at Pearl, TX http://www.pearlbluegrass.smugmug.com/ and maybe some water activities.

Work has been steady and thanks to Beau, the little cottage under the Oaks is a good bit cooler.

Central Baptist's "Sports Camp" and especially the archery was a success. I can bragg here... so... All these "young adults" from the local archery club were demonstrating their skills. The compound bows with lots and lots of "stuff" attached was impressive. Although a bit intimidated since I had not picked up a bow in near 40+ years, I nonetheless stepped to the line. With no special anything and using a child's training bow, I nailed all six arrows in the "10"... Of course it was NOT a long bow or recurve of years past, but not too shabby. I was wise enough to stop while the impression was fresh !!!

Ya'll are wonderful and I look forward to the next Fudd's.

rain, rain, rain;it passed over here and really caused some tragedy northeast of here.albert pike campground was flooded and the count of drowned campers is now at 23 with more still missing.the two rivers that run through there rose 20 feet in just a few hours and swept through the campsite;a real tragedy.
