Scotty- you and Lola are in my thoughts every day. I've had a

sick wife and know that it takes a toll on hubby. Could you go over to Beau's

kitchen for your meals ??? He sounds like a wonderful cook and housekeeper

as well as his other numerous community activities. He'd keep ya laughing. -BJ

Have any of you gotten the gold looking $1 coins in change yet? They have been out for awhile now (2008) and I have had the privilage of refusing a couple of them.

What the government has done is to relegate "In God We Trust" to the edge of the coin, therefore rendering it unnoticeable and thus eventually forgotten to exist. The next step was to replace the English with E PLURIBUS UNUM which for most of the upcoming generations have no idea what it means. Thus, eliminating for all purpose the standard of the United States of "IN GOD WE TRUST".

In essence, out of sight - out of mind and eventually removed completely.

The web site below tells the process by the forces behind the government's effort as they diligently work to remove God from all aspects of the United States of America.

The amount of success they accomplish depends on you and me. Make your voice known and vote.

I agree. Do not accept the coins in change. Do not be ugly about it, but if enough citizens refuse them, then the establishments will begin to refuse them from the banks. The banks will eventually refuse them from the Federal Reserve and perhaps "they" will get the Big Picture... We DO Trust in God!
Paige

http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin/index.cfm?action=EdgeIncused

"The edge-incused inscriptions found on the eight 2007 and 2008 Presidential $1 Coins (George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren) include the year of minting or issuance (2007 or 2008), E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST and the mint mark (P, D or S).
Beginning in 2009 with the William Henry Harrison Presidential $1 Coin, the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST will move to the coin's obverse (heads side), with the year of minting or issuance, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the mint mark remaining as edge lettering. However, there are two processes for producing the edge-incused lettering and each produces a different result."

Well guess what I saw in my travels around this so large town I live in yesterday but a MIMOSA tree. I know in this past few weeks we had covered that topic. I saw not one but two, so I guess there not extinct. Just an FYI and hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day weekend.

On our many patrols through the hood, me and coop and catahoula jack, and rides throughout Oak Forest, we have seen DEAD NORFOLK PINE EVERYWHERE! Just plumb charbrown!!! This past winter they were green and live! I know the cold didnt kill them, cause they are a cold weather tree!!! Most of em were in excess of 25 ft tall too! Strange!!!! Prolly not enuff water!!! "OH YA THINK, MARLIN PERKINS"??????   Saw mama duck and her 10 ducklings this morn! What a cute sight!!! they are getting big! Wont be too long and they will be out on their own!

Met the owner of the neighborhood Sharpei! Her name is "Carmelo"! Too froo froo for me, plus you have to be able to shorten it when you need to, like "hey coop, get over here"...You know what I mean!!! But now when we walk by, I can call out to Carmelo and say hi!!! We have a "Romeo" and a "Sadie" and Coop and Jack and Now a Carmelo in the hood! Plus scores of other k9 personalities in the hood! Oh, I forgot Fred and Ethel next door! They like the "I love Lucy" series, so they name everything after the names in that sitcom!!!

Jimmie Sue...Great entry

Scotty...Lola gonna be just fine, good as new...

Burge??? How you doin??? Gettin any normalcy back in your life after all your surgeries??? We all hopin for your full recovery as well as any and everyone going through health issues!!!

Anyone heard from Bernd?????

Today is the big day...My grandson turns 16, and we are gonna surprise him with DWs old car! It is a 1998 Nissan Altima, with only 82K miles on it! Couldnt get anything on a trade, or selling it, so we kept it over in my moms garage whilst she is enjoying life in New Mexico!!! It has brand new tires and a new battery, and  I had the cv joints fixed and all safety issues addressed and fixed should they so need it, and then had it detailed! IT LOOKS LIKE NEW!!!!! I was thinking about keeping it, that is, until I got into and out of it ! Man, Causes me serious bodily injuries just to get in and out of it! Taylor is 6 ft tall, but I dont think he will notice the difficulty, until the new wears off! I know when I was 16, I would have taken any car, with or without a motor!! As I'm sure, most every kid would have back in them good ol days!

Guess I will ssign off for now...Gonna be a hot one...

Peace to us all...DOD

Cephus, I always thought like you that Norfolk Pines were a mountainous specie and, therefore, could tolerate cold weather. Wrong! Every one that I've seen out here in northwest Harris County is dead as a doornail, including the one we recently replaced with a bald cypress in our front yard. Over where my oldest daughter lives south of I-10 and north of Memorial quite a few are burned but putting out new growth. But the lesson is learned, they are not freeze tolerant.

Good evening fellow Waltripians. I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday weekend.

Scotty and Lola you're both in my thoughts and prayers. You are both going to be fine we have it on the good authority of the Duke of DuBarry aka Sweet Tater Beau.

There was a really interesting article yesterday in the Chronicle Belief section about the Dalai Lama. He's got a new book out that he's on tour promoting. It's about all the religions learning to get along. He is an interesting man. I think he's right we've all got to learn to live together so we won't bring the world as we know it to an end. I don't agree with some of his thoughts on economics as presented in the article . They seem contradictory but trying to get people to respect each other and live in harmony isn't a bad idea.

Sweet Tater, I don't think Norfolk Island Pines are tolerant of the temperatures we had this winter. I think that's what killed 'em just like it did all the Ficus trees. Linda, thanks for the report of sighting of Mimosa trees. From a nostalgia perspective it's good to know there are some still ou there. I'm not sure if they're on the bad list of plants from foreign places that are very negative for native foliage. I wouldn't think so or we'd see more of them growing wild.

I'll tell you puppy Liz is shaping up to be a really fine dog. Just one of those joys of life that come along too infrequently.  Or we don't pay enough attention to how frequently we receive those kinds of blessing. If I stop and think about it the blessing I've had in my life are just too numerous to make a list of. I could do it if I was like STB and didn't sleep much but I get close to a normal night's sleep. I'm a little shy since Liz showed up but as you know puppies and kids don't wait as long without having to go in the back yard. I'm not sure who owns the Purina Co. now but you might want to look into their stock. Liz really likes her Puppy Chow. It takes a lot of fuel to grow like a weed.

May the wind always be at your back,

Rich LH

Teddie And Richard,

Have to agree with you. LIved in Florida for several years and in different loacations and the further south you go the taller the Norfolk got. Sometimes 30 feet, but in Jacksonville, the winters got too cold sometimes and we could not get them to make it more than a few years. Beautiful tree. Can be grown indoors near a window for a while.

I planted a mimosa this spring I bought at a nursery. It was in a 5 gal pot and looked like an 8 foot stick. But I watered and fertilized and damned if it didn't put on some blooms a week ago.

Good eefenink mine fellow waltripians,

Just back from eefenink patrol with Cooper and John boy and DW. Still warm, after all these years!!! Well duh!!! It is June isnt it??? Hard to believe that half a year is gone...already...again!!! Clint eastwood is 80...I still cant get over that!!! So far, I havent had to report to Federal Jury Duty! I just call em, and they tell me if they need me or not! I think they heard of me, and arent prepared for MY KIND!!!!

Speakin of Feds, I played taxi service for my neighbor behind me! Took him to St Joseph Hosp downtown at 5:30 this morn! And picked him up at 11!!! He is a retired Federal DA! So now, I can say...I KNOW A GUY!!!! But, my point is...yes, I do have a point, and I'm getting to it in a round a bout way...gee, there's a surprise...Anyway, as I was traveling through beautiful downtown Gotham City, I noticed...it really is beautiful!!! No kidding! Dont know if it was, "first light" making it look good, but it is very clean and...nice!!! Ifin youse youts havent been downtown lately, get up at 5 if you live within 30 mins of DT GC, and experience it your ownself!!! Theres even a coffee shop/donut shop/kolache shop at the bus station...

I beleive there are more sky walks crossing the streets connectiing the buildings than there are tunnels, and there is  a plethora of tunnels!!! Passed by the old Tenneco Building/Houston National Bank, and they are remodeling the first three floors inside and out!!! Saw the "hooterville special" on main street! Did you know that two different metro buses collided with two different trains??? Not all at the same time, but at different times, and both collisions happened at St Joseph and Main!!! What was St Joseph called before it was St Jo street??? Anyone? Anyone??? I dont remember either!!!

Scuse me...coop is feeling needy and has his head in my lap...hang on...All my critters seem to be needing my attention more lately!  I'm probably not long for this whirld I guess...critters seem to know!

Me and DW and the boys, Coop and Jack, went to the ranch yesterday! HOT??? Hell damn RD, it was so hot, the rabbits were just walking, and the boys were just walkin after em!!! Saw a huge buck, no antlers yet, but absolutely huge! I was on the tractor, and either I sneaked up on him, or he just happened to come across the road and onto our place as I drove up! Dont see how I could have sneaked up on him on that noisy tractor, but he sure lit out!!! He was so large, I heard his hooves hit the ground and felt the vibrations through the steering wheel!!! I kid you not!!! I would suspect he probably weighed in at 250 to 300 pounds on the hoof!!! He was as big as a horse...Noooo, he wasnt a horse, I do know the difference!!!

What a beautiful place we have...Me and coop and Jack got up early, before first light, and put the coffee on whilst DW slept in!!! Went outside with a fresh perked cup of cowboy coffee, and me and the boys sat on the park bench, and waited for the sun to come up! Sure nuff, just like clockwork, here it comes...here it comes...pouring its glorious light through the trees...the first rays illuminate the steam risin from my coffee...take a sip...hmmm good!!! Cant think of a better way to start a morning off than with a cup o joe and my two sidekicks...where else, but by my side!!! More rays now, shinning on Jack and then Coop!!! Both boys look like they are smiling...I guess maybe they are...I know my heart is!!! Ol coops face is just golden, bathed in the suns rays, almost looks like the proverbial happy face!!!  Well, with a long nose of course!

Guess I will sign off, Ol coop is acting all jumpy...

Not many folks get on the forum much anymore!! guess the new has worn off! I do hope all is well with everyone!!!

Youre friend and brother  Sweet Tater Beauregard DOD

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Good morning all,

Memorial Day has come and gone, so I'm back at school, HS report cards need to be reviewed and mailed out....I'm sure they are eagerly waiting for them. 6 graduated Fri.!  should have 7 or more next yr! ooowwweeee!

Talk about work in the country, I've had 3 large piles of trees to be burned and I've worried about the best time to do it.  Had a guy come out, wanted  him to move 'em around and burn and he refused, saying there is no water in the back and sparks could flow to the woods around and burn me and my neighboring forests.....well, to make a long story short I chkd on the weather and wind was 5 mi. and I was out by 6:30, lit one....no problem, lit two perfect, lit third pile ...excellent.  God is in this someplace, because there was not a hesitation on my part, after I annswered his prayer that it was time and lit them!  I tell you folks, he's there if you will listen.

Now I wished I had listened to him when I made the journey downtown Houston.  I felt, from the start, I should have turned around, but kept going.  1st, I refuse to drive on highways, so I trudged thru memories down Shepherd, Yale and the Heights....couldn't remember how to navigate to Main St, took forever and instructions from kind people (I felt that I've reached the mind-tangle of old age, trying to visually remember the neighborhood route of the past, while viewing the exquisite homes of the Heights....WOW! ) Got down, lost my way downtown, young and sucessful power-driven workers just leaving work and getting the hay out of DT area in their beautimous autos, as well as the Astros game getting started at Minute Maid Park.....couldn't find a parking place on the third try, was no closer to my goal, and decided it was time to surrender and go back to Anderson. Guess I've reached the country attitude of not wanting to manuver Houston anymore.  150 mi. later and 3/4 tank of gas-truck, I was happy that my car didn't run hot as it was trying, tires still good and I didn't have an accident and I was physically, emotionally exhausted, but life was quiet and transquill again!  Wheww! Guess I am where I am supposed to be. (Now I did make it to Katy Mill Mall for shopping Mem. Day with a friend, ate at the Rainforest, walked all the way around.....where are Foleys, Dillards, Sears and Penneys? Why that just isn't a Mall!)

So Beau-man, you ain't doing so bad!  Just keep loving those wonderful dogs and cats, It was wonderful getting back to mine!

Fran and I would like to ask everyone's prayers for our son in law, who we love like a son, Curt Walling. Curt was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, the type that non smokers get, and is scheduled to have surgery and part of his lung removed next Monday, June 7, at Methodist Hospital in the medical center. Curt is one of the healthiest looking 37 year old young men you will ever meet so this has come as quite a shock to all of us in his family. But because he is young and in good shape, and with God's grace and everyone's support, we know that he will come out of this healthy once again. Thank you.

Mornin' fellow Waltripians. I hope you're day is off to a grand start!

Sweet Tater, even though I'm not from the fedral guvment, I am here to Hep you! The street now known as St. Joseph Pkwy. formerly was known as Calhoun St. You are correct , Houston is a pretty city. Also driving in the early morning is an ideal time before the Kamikaze drivers take to the roads, running late to their work. Going into or out of town on Memorial is very pleasant. If you're looking for a good old fashion coffee shop in the edge of town drop in at the Avenue Grill at Houston Ave & Washington. You can feel very safe there because it is usually filled with HPD, DPS, Sheriff's Deputies and Constables. Old fashioned waitresses and breakfast. No American Heart Association awards on the wall. But what the heck you only go around once in life. As the comedian Joe E. Lewis used to say "but if you do it right, once is enough"! I had one of my more embarrassing moments there. I have a couple of friends that I got together with every week for breakfast back many years ago and we met at the Ave. Grill. My birthday fell on one of those days.  It was a work day so I went ahead and went to our weekly get together. My wife at the time arranged for me to get a singing Western Onion telegram with all these law enforcement types, bail bondsmen and attorneys in attendance. It wasn't having Happy Birthday sung to me that was embarrassing. It was that is was sung by a scantily clad young woman that could have passed for Dolly Parton. And of course my wife showed up to witness this! All others present thought it was a super way to start the day! Oh well it was a memorable birthday

Well it's time to bring all you dog lovers up to date on puppy Lizabeth. All you folks who aren't dog lovers will have tolerate it.  Yesterday Liz went for her second puppy vaccination. She is a friend little soul so she was happy to see all the folks and other dogs at the clinic. It seems the veterinary experts may have incorrectly identifying her breed as a Cute Little Black Puppy. Not totally incorrect though, only the little part. In the month she has resided with me she has grown from 3 lbs., 3 oz. to 10 lbs. Her feet and legs are no longer small. The guesstimate now is that she will probably be in the 75 lb. range. So much for the thought that a smaller dog would be easier to deal with.

Time to return to my commercial endeavors. Our business seems to picking up a bit. I hope yours is too Plan on being a Fuddrucker's next Tuesday if you can. You'll be glad you you did!

Teddie, Curt and our entire family will be in my thoughts adn prayers. Let him know tht there are lot of people pulling for him. If there is anything else I can do let me know.

Keep on dancing

Teddie,

Wonderful pictures and a big salute to your father-in-law and father.  I didn't know your dad was a retired Lt. Colonel.  I know you are very proud of him and that's wonderful all the memorabilia you've kept all these years -- priceless.

My family was Marine Corp. - my dad (WWII) and two uncles (both Lt. Colonels) and of course, my son, Doug (Force Recon - Sgt).  So it's oorah! Semper Fi in my family --- oh, Doug's dad was Army (Vietnam 68-69).

As we discussed, would like to start a Military tab for everyone to post pictures if they served or love ones that served or those serving their country currently.  I want to show how proud we are of all of them --- God Bless America - God Bless our Military!

Hugs,

PS - we are all praying for Curt -

Tater, congrats to Coop on his recent graduation. Particularly graduating Yumy Cum Soup Bone. It looks like the excitement of the event wore him out.

My latest incident with Liz the puppy is one I wouldn't beleive it if I hadn't seen it. Last night as I turned down the hall to go to bedroom. I spied her in there with the bath mat. Which she has been scolded about many times. It's obvious I terrify her, right? I can tell she hears me coming but doesn't look my way. She grabs the bath mat and zips  into her kennel with it. When I get to the bedroom, she has layed down in the kennel with her eyes closed like she's sleeping. The best I could do was not laugh out loud! This pup is a challenge!

Just keep on dancing,

Saw in this morning's Chronicle that Joe Weible's ( WHS '63 ) mother passed away. According to the article Joe, whose real name was Merle Reuel Weible, died March 5, 1978. I had heard that he had died but never have known the cause at such a young age. Joe was a nice guy and a tough guy. When we used to play pony league baseball he was a catcher, and catchers are tough. Some other catchers in our school were Gary Keith and Bubba Hill, two more nice guy / tough guy combinations.
