I remember that HAROLD, in the days before he became Beau (Cephus) with all of the blond hair and busy comb, in high school and in those simple and wonderful times! Best wishes to you and your bride and brood of animals and dependents in Chappell Hill old friend.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Welllll, actually no one ever called me HAROLD, except teachers.  I would try to get them to call me Beau, some did, and some didnt.  That's a real problem having a nickname and a birth certificate given name.  You always try to live up to the nickname, ie "Rocky", etc. My mom, bless her misguided heart, would always introduce me as, "this is my son Beau, but his real name is Harold, but we call him Beau".  ALWAYS ! ! !  REALLY?????      Try as I might, I could not get her to do otherwise.  Why give a kid a name, then call him something else?   Hmmmm???    Would liked to have been "Billy Joe", Billy Ray,  etc, well, you "play with the hand you was dealt", "dance with the one that brung ya" !

Ok, October 27th is almost uponus, ie "Party on the Hill".   Got an idea I'd like to push past youse youtes.  Been doing some studying and some cypherin and have come to the cornclusion that we can have the food catered for around 10 dollars a person.  I was thinking MEXICAN food.  Fajitas, chick and beef, tacos, enchaladas, burritos, tamales,  chips and dips, rice and beans, salsa, gratchamole, japalenas, tortillas, etc.  I know a place up here that has very good texmex, and all we'd have to do is go pick it up, which is not a problem.

To my way of thinking, that is the best route, that way, no one has to prepare a meal for X number of people, dont have to go out and buy stuff, it's already done.  I figure that Diane and I spend around 30 dollars, give or take, whenever we go to a "SPRING FLING, OR FALL FLING" , or anytime we go out to eat. And generally we dont get a drink with that, just water. Most everyone charges 2.50 for soft drinks and tea and coffee etc. Beer on the other hand is anywhere from, what, 3 dollars for domestic to 6 for imported, or roundabouts thereof.

So, 10 dollars per person is way under what we normally spend when we go out, even to whataburger. Now, having said 10 dollars, that isnt mandatory that all chip in. Just whatever you can, or just your presence alone is good enough. We figure the time and gas spent getting to the "Hill" is good enough,    Whatever Diane and I spend, is for being allowed to host such an event, and enjoying the honor, privilige and pleasure of everyones company.  SOOOOO, WHATTAYATHINK?????   If anyone has any special food that needs to be prepared for a certain diet, given prior notice, then that's no problem eyether.

Not everyone drinks beah, so whoever brings the beah, and we can supply that too,  can set a refund fee of X$ so they wont have to carry the total price of beah.   Diane and I already have chaffing dishes, racks, sterno, napkins, table clothes, plasticware ie forks and spoons and knives, and no telling what else we have in the party dept.   We also have a RITA machine, and can make RITAS AND PINA COLADAS, plus we already have the makins.  Gallons of tea, sweet and unsweet, coffee, water, (we always have about 6 or more cases of bottled water on hand, just for us, so water is no problem).  Ice is easy, have a chest freezer full of ice, plus Buccees is just a short 20 minute drive and they have 20 pound ice for .99 cents.

I think the aforementioned idear is a SPLENDID IDEAR, dontcho?   The above way, there is no guess work on what folks are suppose to bring and what folks actually bring.  And not bring too much or too little!  Last yeah, Wayne and Frank brought a couple gallons of tater salad, which they had lots left over.  We had gallons of beans and chicken and beef left over, so the aforementioned idear should eliminate that.

We would like to hear your thoughts on the above idear, but only if you agree with us. Ok, gotta run, but will keep this ball rolling around till it's PARTY TIME ON THE HILL.

The above 10 dollars per, also includes the porta cans.  Plus, we have three full baths in the house, and should it be too hot, or too cold, or rainy, we can go inside the house.  We are so easy and flexible.

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Please, please....don't be Madisonville Mushroom Festival time on Oct. 27!  I go every year....looking forward to the event and my $10 is certainly in, still have the Beau and Diane driving instructions in my car..  I can help with anything needed.

Well we certainly don't have any rain here yet, maybe next week.  I've invented the new farm......cleared 6 ac. of brush, weeds, "hateful pine saplings and trees"  left all the larger Oaks...it has not been done before and this is why I'm calling it the new farm....as grandson was horrified of his woods not being there anymore....New Farm I said!

Good luck, Scotty on the move.  You are a lot more versatile than I.....thought I might move, but probably could not be happy with neighbors and would mourn my trees and my country people, and would probably hate the house and wish I'd never done it.  Oh well.

I like Beau, Beauman, Rowdy, etc....lol,   No more dizzy spells, Beau, take care of youself and stay in....too hot!

07/24/18 10:33 PM #9283

Beau Wann, Jr.

Sorry Kay, date has already been etched in stone. Did that just shortly after the spring fling.  Other classes are having reunions  first 2 or 3 weekends in October, so October 27 was onliest one left.  Plus anything after that, and we are interfereing with Thanksgiving and Christmas, so October 27 it is. If it will mean anything to you, I will have a bunch of mushrooms brought in so you will feel at home on that weekend.  I love shrooms! ! !  Put em on everything cept ice cream!

Speaking of which, bought a new bluebell flavor, "Creole Cream Cheese" ! ! ! !   UGH AND YUK! Why did they even bother.  I mean, I can make up concoctions that are terrible, but better than the CCC of Bluebell.   I cant believe they would put something like that out.  Might as well put mushrooms in it, and asperagus, and brussel sprouts....  I know someone that is as close to being creole as anyone, she's from Houma, La. which is way down in the bayou/swamp country, and she doesnt understand why they put "Creole" on it. She didnt like it eyether!

Hey youse youtes, I'm really liking the "texmex" food for the fall fling. I'm glad someone came up with that idea.  Dessert?   How about folks bring dessert?  I know someone that makes the best banana pudding in the whole whirld.    I wont say who, but you know her too, and her initials are Jimme Lee.  Thanks again for that 2nd BP for after my foot surgery, that's what helped me heal!  In fact, I think JL could probably win the Nobel Prize for "feel good medicine". Yeah, that's the ticket, she's got my vote!

Really,  probably all we would need is dessert if folks wanted to make some. I know at yalls advancing age, a lot of you probably dont eat sweets.  I try to be good and stay away from them, but when it's a special occasion, like a reunion, then I say throw banana pudding to the wind.   I will have plenty of Bluebell Ice cream here, so lets hear a shout out for everyones favorite flavor.  My favorite flavor is...hmmm....ice cream?   Nah, I like vanilla and chocolate and everything else EXCEPT CREOLE CREAM CHEESE!

Went out checking on prices of things, and all told, it will all add up to less than 500 dollars.  Now last "Party on the hill", we had 50 people, I counted them in the photo, and if we have 50 this time, that works out to be $10 dollars per. I've got a feeling that we might just have more folks here this next time.  If anyone from another class wants to come, Invite them.  The more the merrier!

I'm thinking about picking up the food the day before and sampling it to make sure it's not tainted.  If it's bad, or there is a problem with it, my body lets me know within 30 minutes I shouldnt have eaten it.

So let's recap, is everyone ok with catered TEXMEX food?  If not, let's explore other menu items.

Ok, time to deplane...keep the sun at your six and ride boldly ride...
it got to 102 yesterday, and only 96 today. Musta had a cold front come in.
Your frien and resident texmexer  CephusJuanwann

Post Script:  I will be experimenting with the RITA machine on making killer ritas and pina coladas. I know, I know, it's a sacrifice, but I'm willing to take one for the team. The lengths I go to, to insure youse youtes happiness, right?

Teddie Jordan

Cephus, put us down as a yes, and great idea and plan on the food and details. I’ll get with Jimmy and maybe recruit a couple of others and we will come up the day before and help y’all get set up, like we did last time.

It seems like I knew you as Harold for many of our school years. If you think you had trouble with names I had to deal with the laughter on the first day of each new class and semester when the teacher would call the roll and say, Theodore Fiquet Jordan? The only time my mom ever called me by my real name was when I was in big  trouble! And our longtime company receptionist would question those who called and asked for Teddie by asking, “So  are you family, or a high school friend?”

07/25/18 03:29 PM #9285

Beau Wann, Jr.

Great one.  We could have said, "I'm both, family and friend!"    " TJ, come to the front, TJ, come to the front. I need all sackers and stockers to the front..." Fiquet?  Ah didnt know you were french!   Remember Shorty?  His first name was Pellam!  What's in a name?  Big hearts, that's what.  We may not be blood kin, but we sure are Heart kin!

If yall want to come up anytime between now and then, just to get the lay of the land, make dry runs if you will, and even if you wont. You know, get some practice in before the big day.     I've got some cold brew up here just achin to get consumed.

Cephus, quite ironic that I should read your words calling me a Frenchie today. Francine and I are on a cruise and a few days of living the butterfly life on the western Mediterranean. And after several days in Italy and yesterday in Monaco, today we are in St. Tropez, France! Fiquet was my great x 3 grandfather’s family name and he was from France and must have been a good man, because we have several generations of male and female Jordan’s named in his honor. I’ve always said that when I get old and can’t get out much anymore I am going to get on one of the websites and finish out some of the info we have on our family trees.

Beau, the Mexican food idea is great - $10/person is a fantastic deal.  Y'all spent so much time cooking at your last gathering, you couldn't enjoy your beautiful venue - can't wait to see the expansion.  I'll be happy to bring a dessert and I'm sure others will as well.  As far as a favorite BB ice cream flavor, I have to say that Braum's has a delicious one - Dulce de Leche Cheesecake - try it!  Thanks to you and Diane for even considering having so many of us at your home on the hill - looking forward to it.  Start making a list of things we can help you with and I believe everyone should bring their own beverages and even ice - saves you and Diane a lot of trips.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Howdy myne fyne waltripynes !    Gonna be the greatest party ever known, in all of man and womankind!   I believe we got it down now, learned so much from the first party.  Just wish I could remember it!   I'm a little tipsy this eenin!  I generally dont have much to drink cept water or gatorade, or V8, since it has more potassium than a naner. I hate bananas.  I generally alot myself one beah per 4 hours worked outstide. So I worked some 12 hours outside yestidy, so that's what, 11 beahs?   Ok, I never was good in algebra, so I rounded off, to just 10 beahs,  a nice even round number.

Had me another dizzy spell this nafteroon. Me and Little Miss was laying on HER couch, and all of a sudden, the room started spinning at warp speed.  My beloved has told me in the past to focus on one thing in the room....That would be swell if I COULD ACTUALLY SEE THE ROOM.  I'm here to tell you, that everything going round in a circle is a blur.  "and the eyes in his head spinning round...the fool on the hill"!   Seeing as how the sawbones cant figure it out, I thought I'd actually manufacture a reason for the dizziness, and that's, HAVE A BEAH! ! !

Well, it woiks! ! !   I'm a little wobbly, but feeling no pain!  Damn son, someone put me in for the nobel peace prize, I DONE FIGGERED OUT LIFE AND HOW TO LIVE IT.   "Hi, I'm Bill, and I'm an alcoholic...and damn proud of it, thank you very much"! ! ! !      and feeling no pain! ! !   At least I'm not on opiumnoids or whatever in the heck is it ! ! !

Me and the missus just came in from settin on the deck, solving one of the whirlds problems after another.  Man are we great or what.  Workin and plannin on the ANNUAL PARTY ON THE HILL.  It's like when I'm riding my Harley, the journey is the destination.  Same as the party, it is the journey and the destination all rolled into one.  We love hosting it !  Of course it's purely selfish on our part, WE GET TO SEE ALL YALL! ! !

I was thinking of changing the menu to EYETALIAN, spaghetti and meatballs or meatsause and salad and freeeench bread, or eyetalian bread with plenty O garlic.  I asked my beloved about changing the menu, and she looked like she had been "gut shot"!   Dang woman, it's just food.  Looks like we are sticking with the TEXMEX Alamo menu.  Well, we like it as well as eyetalian.  We are gonna have such fun organizing this spectacular extravaganzoid PARTY ON THE HILL.

Got the bar framed out, spect we'll have er done by end of next week, or maybe week after.  Gonna be so fine.  Getting the Pool table and shuffle board people lined out. Gonna move some fencing and add some gates.  Lookin at another big scrain (east texas for screen) TV for out in the Wo Man kave.  Might be a game on 10-27 folks just might wanna seeeeee, see?

I was thinkin, oh no, he was thinkin again...maybe....hmmmm, lsot my trayne of thought. Oh wwell, no harm no foul.  Did I actually HAVE a trayne of thought?   Maybe that trayne left the station, hmmmm????  Oh well, do not be alarmed, step away from the trayne...the man with no brayne has missed the trayne, and the rayne in spayne falls maynely on the playne. HA, and you call me krazy. Just look at youse....

Thought I'd better start another paragraph since I ruined the last one.  I think I'm all beahed out tonight.  Gonna sleep well methinks.  Cant wait to begin workin on the "party" tomorrow, again!   There will be very little for anyone to do for this party.  Most of it has already been taken care of, or will be come party time. Like last time, the party starts when I get up, and yall all can come on down, or up whenever the mood strikes you.  Last time, someone arrived around 8 or 9, and got put to work right away.

Oh man, I cant wait....time to deplane....SOOOO, keep the sun at your six and ride boldly ride..

Beau Wann, Jr.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Theissen.  "Jim".     After all the years of my calling him "Mr.Theissen", I had a hard time calling him Jim.  Respect, something that was taught to all of our generation from day 1, and I had the greatest respect and admiration for Mr. Theissen.  He and Mrs. Theissen, Ruby, were the parents that all us other kids wished were ours.

Lots of  funny stories about Jim and some of our classmates, Larry York and Steve Fain in particular. I'll let Larry tell folks about those.  One day Jim asked had I seen Larry lately, and I said yes.  Mr. Theissen said, "Tell Larry I know about all the lawnmower gas they borrowed for their scooter", or words to that effect.  Another one Jim told me was the time the hubcaps wer stolen off his Volkswagen. He said he mentioned it to Larry and steve, and the next morning when Jim went out to go to work, he had hubcaps on his VW.   Anyway, Larry probably has a few stories he can relate to folks.

Everytime I ever went down 43rd street heading west to my house, or east away from it,  and it must be a zillion t imes, I always passed the Theissens, David David and Steve Jones house.  My demented brain never failed to let me know that I just went by their houses.  My brain STILL does that anytime I'm in Houston.  Talk about "memory implant".  In fact, the first scene I see on the screen of my mind, is the corner of 43rd and Oak Forest, and then Oak Forest and DuBarry st.

What a great memory of a time and place so special with special people like the Theissens and all our classmates. How lucky I was, how blessed.  Jim is with Ruby now. Their long road of life over for them and on to a new adventure in a new life.  But, their road of life is not over for me, us. As long as I draw breath, and blood pumps through my veins, I shall think of them, and all of us from our "Little Mayberry".

07/30/18 01:13 PM #9297

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Amen, BroBeau, our "little Mayberry".  Of course I still live in the neighborhood and thus surrounded by wonderful memories on a daily basis.  Waltrip, Black, Oak Forest, Garden Oaks and Stevens - Doyle's, the McDonald's, the McKay's, the Porter's, the Sheffield's, the Blankenship's, the Moseley's, the Brimberry's, etc.  and to top it off - I live in Susan Foley's old house!!!  We bought it from Mrs. Foley when my husband, Don, returned from Vietnam.  Yes, that many years ago and boy has the neighborhood changed with all the new houses being built and updated shopping centers!  Wonderful MEMORIES!!  but kind of sad seeing all the old neighborhood houses being demolished and these million dollar homes being built.

Cannot wait for our Fall Fling!!!

Many prayers for Tonda and her family.   Hugs

Teddie Jordan

Yes, Jim Thiessen was a good, good man.

Our families were friends and we all went to Oaks church together and lived just a couple of blocks down 43rd from each other. My mom and dad thought the world of Jim and Ruby.  It was good to visit with him at Ruby’s service a couple of years ago, and when Tonda told him who I was he said, “Teddie do you remember the time I saw your dad and his truck broken down on my way home from work and I took him home and we got my tools and went back and got it running that night?”  I told him yes, I definitely did and that I remember to this day how thankful and appreciative daddy was for his help and friendship! Jim could fix anything.

Rest In Peace and enjoy your reunion Jim and Ruby.

Tonda , you were so blessed to have your Mom and Dad all those many years. I have such fond memories of our families having fun times together. I remember the Halloween party our mom's planed for us. It was at your house on 43rd . We were 11 or  12 . I have a cardboard cat from that party.  It's one old black cat, but still in pretty good shape. Our parents are up there together ,  catching up . I can see there smiling faces.   May God bless you and be with at this sad time and always.

Tonda, please know that we are with you in spirit today. We planned on attending your Dad’s service, but had a family emergency come up. Fran’s beloved cousin, and your friend, and our classmate Sharon Smith Gouras’s husband Nicky was placed in ICU in Palestine yesterday with heart failure and we felt that we needed to go and help her care for him.

Dearest Tonda,  just like Teddie, I'm with you in spirit today for your dad's service soon at 2:00.  Sorry, I'm not able to attend, a work issue.

May God put his arm around you and give you strength.  Keep his memories close to your heart and reflect on them often.  Hugs
