Obituary

Beau (Harold G. Wann Jr) passed away on March 1, 2022 peacefully at home in Chappell Hill, Tx with his beloved wife of 37 years, Diane Wann. Beau was born in Little Rock, AR June 17, 1945 to Harold & Margaret Wann. After moving to the Oak Forrest area of Houston in 1952, he grew up going to Oak Forest Elementary, Black Middle School & then Waltrip High School. He was a proud and active alumnus of Waltrip High School, class of 1964. Beau was in a rock band in high school with his good friends (of which he kept in touch with until his death) and played many venues including the famed Music Hall in 1964. After high school, Beau went to Sam Houston State University for a year, before enlisting in the United States Navy for the Vietnam war. He served in San Diego, CA in a patrol squadron and then was sent to Hawaii where he finished his service, had his oldest son Billy in 1968, and returned to Houston where his youngest son Kevin, was born in 1970. Beau worked for his dad & uncles as an iron worker, building many buildings & structures in Houston. Beau worked for Southwestern Bell/AT&T for 30 years where he retired in 1999. After retirement, he helped his son Kevin, start a hardware business where they worked together for 10 years. Beau got his first Harley in mid-2000. He rode with his friends Don and Frank, sons Billy and Kevin, & brother-in-law Rick. Beau joined Rick and the Patriot Guard Riders, whose missions were to shield families of fallen soldiers from those that would disrupt the funeral of a fallen servicemen. Beau met the love of his life, Diane, in 1982, after two mutual friends set them up on a blind date. They were married in 1984 and set off on a life of adventure together, including several houses, family weddings, grandchildren, neighbors, and family gatherings. Eventually they retired and settled out on “The Hill”, some land in Chappell Hill, TX, where they built their dream home. Beau loved driving the tractor and working on the land with Diane. He once even decided to build his own baseball “Field of Dreams”, including bleachers, where his Waltrip class of 1964 had several reunions and played softball. Visitation will be on Wednesday March 9th from 6-8pm, at Pat H. Foley at 1200 W. 34th St, Houston 77018. Graveside will be on Thursday March 10th at 12:45 pm at Houston National Cemetery. Service will be on Thursday March 10th at 2 pm at Oaks Presbyterian Church 1576 Chantilly LN, Houston, TX 77018. Celebration of Life Saturday March 19 th at their home in Chappell Hill. 

Thank you to the doctors and staff at MD Anderson Ann C Brooks Brain and Spine Institute for your care. Thank you to all the staff at MD Anderson for the amazing care during the 14 months he fought brain cancer. We also thank Eric Alford, MD, and the staff at the Brenham Clinic. Thank you to Alumine Hospice for their excellent care. Beau is survived by his wife Diane Wann, Sons & spouses; Billy & Juli Wann, Kevin & Kellie Wann, Grandchildren; Taylor Wann, Haley Wann, Sisters; Carol Heil, Kathy Winkler & husband Jerry, several nieces & nephews. Survived by Dogs: Dixie Bell and Izziedorable and cat Little Miss. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold G. Wann Sr & Margaret Jones Wann. Also preceded in death by pets: Rocky, Cooper, Jack, Cali, Goldie, Libbey, Tucker, Katie, Lacey, Annie Bob, Peaches, Sammy, and Oliver, whom he loved very much. 

Pallbearers: Billy Wann, Kevin Wann, Taylor Wann, Robbie Boswell, Frank Duran, Teddy Jordan, Richard Meek, Don Mitchell and Max Cunningham

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Hard to post this, this super literary figure who glued us together, as he meant to. Clever, intelligent,wisdom beyond his years. Spoke and cared for all of us.  An Angel among us.  Miss you, we are not the same without you, yet we have your words and love of all of Waltrip peeps.  We strive and continue to love all Waltrip Rams.
