Thanks to one and all for your support and compasion...but that comes as no surprise from as good of family as you are...thank you again...Diane and her Mom and Dad are most grateful for all of your prayers and care...me too...

So far, the service for Rick will be AT woodlawn funeral home on Antoine at I-10 on Thursday. visitation at 10 am and service at 12 noon...is there any other noon, other than 12?  anyway the service will be followed by a reception or luncheon, whichever is correct, at Oaks Presbyterian church in Payne Hall.  Really not hard to find.

I hope and pray that all of you Houston folks have escaped the flooding brought on by the heavy rains of the past few days.  They have been showing videos of areas most affected.  Houston has always been one gigantic frog pond as far back as I remember.  I remember when the White Oak Bayou went out of its banks in the T.C. Jester area one year.  We tried to get close enough to see the damage done to that area but could only get so far.  Most of the neighborhood was under water and closed off.

Things were not always the best in Garden Oaks either.  Water would stand in a lot of places and would not run off.  When that gumbo soil got wet, it was a mess.  When it got on the bottom of your shoes, it was difficult to get off.  We had crawdaddys living in the drainage ditch in front of the house.  When the water receeded, here come the mosquitos.  One year they were carrying encephalitis and the foggers would go up and down 38th. street and all through the neighborhood to help try to control the outbreak.  Everyone was asked to go down to the fire station and pick up insecticide to apply to areas of standing water.

Before leaving Houston in 1982, there was another big rain even.  I was working at the Southwestern Bell Telephone central office in Sharpstown.  I was living in the South Main and Fondren area.  I tried to get home that afternoon but could not.  Braes Bayou was out of it's banks on Fondren Boulevard and was over the top of the road.  There we were, stuck, had to spend the night.  Waited hours for the water to go down enough to cross.  Finally did in the middle of the night.  Weary and tired, I only got about an hour of sleep before going back.  That was it.  I was fed up with Houston.  Was transferred to Austin not long after.

A lot of Harris County is near at or below sea level.  Flooding has always been a threat in some areas.  I guess it will always be.  The highest elevations are probably some of the fire ant hills!!  Hope things get better there soon.

Obituary for JOHN RICHARD CUNNINGHAM

Rick Cunningham, 61, died unexpectedly while on vacation in Uvalde County April 15, 2016.
He was born March 14, 1955 in Great Falls, Montana and resided in Katy. He died doing what he loved riding his 2005 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Deluxe. He was on a trip with his close friends.

He grew up in Oak Forest, graduated from Waltrip High School in 1974. With the family he became a avid camper, swimmer, golfer, bowler water skier, basketball player and boat driver. He worked at the family’s Cunningham pharmacies learning customer service is before all else. He played on Oaks Presbyterian Church basketball team which completed in several leagues. He played JV basketball at Waltrip. He won several trophies for his bowling. His love of water skiing led him to help found and compete with the University of Houston Water Ski team in the 70s. He owned a ski boat and drove for many skiers and completed in ski jump and trick skiing.

Rick attended Sam Houston State University and the University of Houston. He studied at Control Data Computer Training becoming an instructor while still a student. He became a computer systems programer and analyst in the Oil and Gas industry. He worked for Amoco, Mobile Oil, Schlumberger and Chevron. He loved his job with Chevron at the Bellaire Campus. He will be missed by his co-workers in many different Chevron locations.

Rick joined the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) in 2005. He was known as “Windrider”. He was honored to show respect for our military and their families who gave all. Rick designed the first website for the SouthEast PGR and became a Ride Captain and Deputy State Captain. He stood in honor, participated in, and organized more than 150 missions for the PGR.

Rick was a member of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Community in Katy. He could talk passionately about his beliefs in politics, religion, sports and other topics, but that did not keep him from making friends with people of different beliefs. He loved the Houston Astros and had season tickets for many years.

Rick was always there for family and friends when there was any need. He gave without hesitation, but rarely let anyone know his own concerns. Once you were his friend he was loyal. He loved his pets he had over the years and grieved each ones’ passing.

Rick is survived by his parents Kenneth Max and Jeannine Erichson Cunningham, sisters and brother-in-laws Diane and Beau Wann, Pam and Ed Norris, nieces Lily Rose Norris and Nina Norris and nephews Philip Norris, Billy Wann and Kevin Wann, great nephew Taylor Wann and great niece Haley Wann, Aunt Joanne Cunningham and many, many cousins. Close friends included Larry and Carol Sherwood, Jerry Pettit, Paul Klein and many others. Preceded in death by Grandparents “Buddy” Paul Otto Erichson and Annabelle James Erichson and William Otto “Doc” Cunningham Sr., and Grace Virginia Snell Cunningham.

A celebration of life will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery Thursday, April 21 with visitation at 10:00 AM, service at 12:00 Noon with graveside to immediately follow with a reception after with details provided at the service. Pallbearers are nephews Bill Wann, Kevin Wann, Brother-in-law Ed Norris, Cousin Bob Thomas and friends Larry Sherwood and Jerry Pettit. Honorary Pallbearers are Ben Cunningham, Sam, Sean, and Shane Cunningham and his many friends, Those wishing to honor him may consider donations to the Patriot Guard Riders at www.setexaspgr.org., or Wreaths Across America Houston www.waahouston.com

Beautiful service for Rick Cunningham, Waltrip Class of '74.  His supervisor at Chevron and his friend, Larry, that was with him the day he died, spoke. Very emotional, but a great tribute to Rick who was loved by all.heart

It was good to see others from our Waltrip group at Rick's service.  Lynn and Pat Prewit, Teddie and Fran Jordan, Jim Taylor, Richard Meek and Barbara Porter Raines.

"Almighty God, Father of all mercies and giver of all comfort: Deal graciously, we pray thee, with those who mourn, that casting every care on thee, they may know the consolation of thy love, through Jesus Christ our Lord."

That is perfect Jackie. And it's wireless, hand held, kind of digital if you think about it, solid state, no battery required, and comes in a cool color. Pure genius!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Good morning Class !    I want to thank the entire class of 64 and those of other classes for the outpouring of sympathy, prayers and concerns during this difficult time.   I would name all the names, but probably would leave some out. I've written them down, and they are safe in the "around here somewhere" file.

Diane spent from Saturday last till yesterday with her mom and dad. Of course we were in constant contact, via cell phone. I told her to get on her parents computer, which was difficult, because they have married a Macintosh and comodore 64 together somehow,  and onto the Waltrip 64 website and show her parents the response....they were overwhelmed!   It was a very welcome and theraputic response for them, and I thank you from t he bottom of my heart...and so does Diane.

Lots of encouraging and beautiful emails and text messages....There were even home visits from Paige and Richard and J.C. Mosier....Richard and Paige live literally around the corner, and pledged any assistance, as did JC...he gave them numbers where he could be reached should they require any help....WOW... Max and Jeanine were just blown away.   Sure made my heart swell ! ! ! Once again, you have my most sincere and heartfelt thanks possible.

Last Sunday morning, Richard Meek and I left on the long trek to Uvalde...I'd been there before, but dont remember it being that far away...did they move it?  That'd be just  like those people, whoever those people are, that move towns and things around, just to cornfuse your.   Anyway, what a long and boring trip it would have been if not for my good friend Richard...it was long, but not boring....we sang Louie Louie, and "shes real fine, my 409" all the way there, and Handals Messiah all the way back. When we hit Shulenburg and the storm, for two hours till we got to Chappell Hill,  we sang The Lords Prayer and the 23rd Psalm...

Richard was thinking about staying the night, but missed Paige too much, so he left during the height of the storm...took him almost 2 hours to make a one hour trip...but he arrived home safely, thankfully ! ! !

after 12 hours in the truck, my back was screaming when I got home, and is still screaming....I'm running out of Hdracodone....I generally only take it as a last resort although it says take one, three times a day...I take two at a time, otherwise it doesnt work...so, been sort of relaxing and doing nothing...well, almost nothing...did some tractor work yesterday, and been trying to put my new garage together and house work and taking care of the critters, otherwise, just goofing off ! ! !

Saw most of the class of 64 roster at Ricks services...once again, wow !

First stop, DPS in Uvalde...officer Crystal Cantu was the soul of compassion, politeness and professionalism. What a credit to the men and women that wear the DPS uniform.   Then on to Leaky to get more personal effects from the Leaky auto parts and wrecker service...I must say, they werent like I would expect in Houston. Tammie Albarado with the wrecker service was also as polite and compassionate as could be. She opened up the store, and wrecker yard, on a Sunday, just to give us Ricks saddle bag contents and to take pictures of the bike.   It was not damaged as much as I had imagined. I think it is repairable !

Tammie later on this past week even sent several heartfelt and beautiful text messages to me...has the w hirld gotten softer and gentler?  It's encouraging...

Ricks and his riding friends were staying at the Best Western in Kerrville...After the tragic accident, they all went back to the motel to check out and go home!     When told of the tragedy, the motel COMPT all the rooms....am I on another planet?  the twilight zone?    If I ever leave home for a night, I know where I'm going to stay, BEST WESTERN....

I've rambled on long enough...to those of you that have responded to this tragic event, I thank you, and I know the Cunninghams are ever in your debt.  It has been hard on the parents, as you can full well imagine, and some of you have also experienced it first hand...I am so sorry we werent there for you...had we known....not a day goes by that I dont think of those classmates that have suffered that worst of all tragedys, the loss of a child....and grandchild...

Thank you once again, class of 64 and other classes...we or ever in your debt...
your frien and brother-in-classmate....Homer Stacy Jones....(my moms dads name) isnt it cool?

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Jackie, I love that computer....cept I'd be breaking the lead, and chewing off the eraser and misplacing the sharpener....we actually have those items, around here somewhere....

Say, if I gave a garage warming party, or garage shower, would all yall come?     I would start it around 9 or 10 AM oclock in the morning....duh, when else does AM come but the morning ! ! !  Well, not actually in THA morning, but some morning, on a saturday...then yall could come early and leave in the daylight hours....

I must say, that those with vettes and or little cars and motorcycles, where welcome, you really should bring a truck or jeep with you. Driveway in critical condition. still passable, but real bumpy ! ! !

I will start work on it maybe today, but probably Sunday...give it more time to dry out....I did some mowing yesterday....fell off the mower....well, actually it wasnt a fall as much as it was a reverse "swan dive" into the freshly dog dug up dirt...bless those little rascals ! ! !    I shut it down, and was preparing to dismount to open up the gate....instead, I lost my balance, and for some reason just went backwards into space, then hitting the prepared dirt...with my head shoulder and everything thereafter....since it was only my head, no worries ! ! !

I immediately jumped up, looking around to see if anyone saw my "fox pawx"....I live in the country, who woulda saw?  Dixie and Jack did, and I thought I detected a snicker from the puppy section...."oh hey, I meant to do that, just training for the RIO olympics in the "3016 Mahindra dismount"....since I didnt "stick" the landing, I probably wouldnt have even gotten a "Bronze" medal.....There were also buzzards in the old dead oak tree...if that wasnt a hint, I dont know what is....."not yet boys, you aint getting me just yet"....

If I dont quit falling over, I'm either going to have to get a helmet and shoulder and hip pads, or maybe some helium filled balloons, yeah, that's the ticket...

Dianes Mother keeps falling down...she fell down at the airport tuesday....one time she got lost for about 3 hours at the airport....Diane finally found her wandering around in one of the parking garages...not the first time she's fallen or gotten lost at the airport...now, if we can just keep her out of airports, I think she'll be allright...she's 87....but a spry 87....

ok, gotta deplane bosss...tweedle dees and dum want to go out....

keep the sun at your six and ride boldly ride my fine and wonderful friends...
