Good times last night, good food, cold beer, nice evening of weather, good turn out and thanks to Johnny, Jackie, Barbara, Jimmie Lee, Tom and anyone else involved in making it happen.

As I have said before but it bears repeating; You  can’t make old friends, you either gottem’ or you don’t! And I feel lucky to have a few from our school days.

Missed seeing Brian Copeland, Gary Mosley, Linda Webster and others, I hope all is well in their world but so glad to see the very familiar crowd that nearly always turns out plus folks like Skeeter, Hennie, Jimmie Lee, Jimmy Stockton, Bradley  Seals who have to travel greater distances .

If our parents are rightfully referred to as the ‘Greatest Generation’ as coined by Tom Brokehall  surviving the great depression and WWII, those of us that were born immediately after the war (and think about it, we are the leading edge of the ‘baby boomers’) may be the ‘Luckiest Generation’ growing up in Duberry RFD in an economically smooth, downhill way of life. Yea sure we made our share of mistakes, especially me, but we succeeded in life in so many ways; family, education, meaningful careers, wealth and most importantly, we have friends – lucky, lucky, lucky.

From Aransas where I belong, wtl

ps: Sometimes I have a hard time believing my own stories……………..

Our get-together Saturday evening was FANTASTIC!  The Goode BBQ front porch and party room provided plenty of room for all of us and because we did have space to spread out, I actually missed getting to visit with a whole lot of people who "snuck in" close to the time I needed to leave.

I'd like everyone to know who the organizers and "worker bees" are for all these great functions:

As far as I remember (but my memory seems to be fading with my aging), Sheffield is responsible for the idea of the twice/yearly functions and he secures the location and works with the venue people to get our space set up and appetizers and drinks provided

The people who have been the "keepers" of all things Waltrip and lug them out for every function are:  Lynn Wren, Jackie Crowe, Barbara Porter.  Susan Howard & Tom Gann are "revered advisors" and Susan helped Jackie with candid photos Saturday.  Through the years, there have been many other couples who have been very important in the planning of the "major" reunions:  Crooms, Wanns, Jordans, Scheffers, Beverly (Hengst) & Jim Allen, Doug Romans and I am sure I'm missing some, but since I wasn't able to participate because of my North Texas location, I don't know everyone who volunteered.

Along with all those people, we have to include family & spouses of all the "planners."  They've had to put up with our Waltrip activities for over 50 years and we are grateful for their participation and support.

Thanks to everyone who made this Spring Fling a great success and I'm so glad I got to see so many people who were and have continued to be a very important part of my life.

I want to thank Jackie,Lynn ,Barbara, tom, Susan , and Jimmie lee

for there support in keeping our tradition alive.

I want to thank all who showed up for the spring fling for the hospitality

and friendship that we shared together.

Our friendship and memories keeps us going.

So sorry we didn't make it our daughter and her husband were moving that weekend and they were in a hot mess.  Leron and I just couldn't leave them to go have a good time. It's been nine days and they still have things at their old house.  At least the next mini reunion will be easier for us because we will spend the night at their home in Conroe and not have to drive another hour.  See ya in October

Frankie

She was suppose to post this cause I was too tired to do it, but did it anyway...duh! ! !

I sure hate to be the bearer of news like this, but Dianes brother was just killed in an accident in Uvalde.  Dont think it is a mistake, because the  state troopers are at Dianes mom and Dads house.... She and her mom and dad are gonna need all the prayers that you can muster....Rick was waltrip class of 74....

Thank you in advance....

Jimmy Stockton

Beau,

So sorry for the news.  Will be in prayer for Dianne and her family.

04/16/16 07:07 PM #7899

Beau Wann, Jr.

Thanks Jimmy...they are all just devastated...really gonna need Gods strength through all your prayers.

The People that Rick was riding with stopped by. Just left. Gave me all the details. Pilot error on Ricks part. Made a Uturn in front of an 18 wheeler. Was killed instantly. Driver tried to swerve left to avoid Rick, but just couldnt.  If he had swerved to the right, he would have killed the entire group.

Rick is in Leaky funeral home. Funeral home here will bring him home Monday.

Ive got to go tomorrow to Camp Wood or Leaky to the DPS office to get his personal effects/affects, whichever it is.  Key to his house, etc...

Diane will be spending the night with her parents and for the next week till after the services....I'm holding down the fort, feeding critters and administering meds to whichever ones require them. Plus trying to get ready for the major storms tomorrow through all next week. They say Monday will bring 12 inches of rain....oh goody.... Big ol house is sure lonesome without Diane....

Gonna leave all the lights on, inside and out....thank you again for your prayers....Dianes parents live at 2110 Latexo, where Diane is now.
