Please keep Barbara Porter Raines in your prayers.  She will have surgery tomorrow on her knee because of a torn meniscus; it will be day surgery at Methodist.  She is scheduled to be at hospital by 5:30 a.m. but not sure what time surgery will begin.  I will keep you posted.

As you may remember, she had surgery on the other knee in 2014 (right before our 50th class reunion) due to a fall.  This time she was playing ball with her grandkids at Easter and injured the other knee.  Ouch!!!  Many prayers for our dear classmate!

Hugs, J

Just heard that Barbara is out of surgery and her daughter, April, is with her.

Saw on Facebook that she posted a pic of herself earlier this morning waiting for surgery!  Thanks for all your prayers.  Hugs

I saw Barbara yesterday evening at her house and talked to her this morning.  She's doing very well considering it has only been a day since surgery.  She thanks everyone for their calls, emails and texts.

Hugs

So glad to hear that all is well, Barbara.  It certainly is wonderful to know that when you are facing one of Life's trials, you have a Waltrip Prayer team on your side!

Please keep our dear classmate, David Zaring, in your prayers.

David has been going to M. D. Anderson for about 6 weeks.  Here’s information from his wife, Linda, to Jimmie Lee Brawner:

“We knew David had a fractured vertebrae on the T12, a mass in the bone at T6, but the doctors didn't think that was his primary cancer.  After many tests, scans and MRI's, they determined that the primary cancer was from his kidneys.

This Sunday my sons and I had to bring David to the ER at MDA. David had several problems, a urinary track infection, his heart rate was high and his blood pressure was low and they think he has a GI bleed; also his pain had not been controlled for several months, even with several changes in meds. We spent one day and one night in ICU and were moved into a room the next day. He is doing much better now. His pain is being controlled, thank God, the other issues are being taken care of.

The immediate concern is the instability in his spine. The doctors have decided to do some radiation at the compression fractures, the T3, T6 and T12. He will have 5 days of radiation on those 3 vertebrae. This will not remove the tumors, but hopefully shrink them and help stabilize the spine some. They haven't even addressed the cancer that is in the kidneys yet.

To bring things to a close, we are in for the fight of David's life. It may not look good, but we have a gracious and loving God, and as David tells me when I get upset, if it's Gods will, he will be healed. David has a real relationship with his Lord, and he's a fighter and will fight this. He wants everyone to know he believes in the power of prayer and he appreciates the prayers that have been lifted up for him and wants each of you to continue to pray for him.

As many of you know, that know him, he values his friends. He may not of seen some of you in a while or in years, but once a friend of my David's, means always a friend!”

David,  I am so sorry to hear about you being so ill.  I am praying for you.  It seems that you have been in my life a long time!  We were in home room for 4 years and then you were Tha mailman where I worked for 15 years!  It must have been all that walking that was hard on your back!  You always carried that heavy mailbag!  I pray for relief of pain and quality of life!  God bless.  Mary Weidner Williams

Wishing Barbara a speedy recovery at home after knee surgery.

Also, prayers for David Zaring.  Knew him in our early days at Garden Oaks Elementary.  His mom was our Den Mother when we were Cub Scouts.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hello myne fyne waltripynes....been away awhile...dealing with Ricks death and his estate.  Trying to be as supportive of Diane and her mom and dad as I can possibly be.   But we are talking about me here.....We've been to about half dozen funerals this year. Dealt with two different kinds of bronchial pneumonia....A dog with seizures, a cat with urinary tract infection....repairs to the driveway, and our wonderful new custom home....what a crock that is......Two college graduations of grandchildren. One from A&M and the other from UH.  Trying to keep our house in order, which is just impossible.  I can uderstand a messy house when there are 4 or 5 or more people living there, some of them being teenagers, but it's jus tthe two of us....oh, and 3 cats and 2 dogs, and a partridge in a pear tree.

We have been downsizing for the last 5 years, and still just a messy jumble of boxes and crud.  It's taken me 70 years, but I'm finally learning to be patient, sort of !   Still havent wired my new garage for electricty yet.  Got the conduit in and all the necessary parts and equipment, but too much other stuff has surfaced.   plus I've been putting it off, because I have a few questions to ask a real electrician.

Had a couple of storms, but nothing like last year. Only one produced 9 inches of rain, the others were just lots of wind, 35 MPH sustained winds, and an inch here, and an inch there, which we'll take.  About the height of the storm, I always manage to remember the lawn furniture and other unguided missiles. So I go out and lean into the wind and try to secure everything..."against the wind, still running against the wind, I'm older now, but still running against the wind..."

I know what your thinking, you know the storm is coming, so why dont you secure all the unguided missiles before it arrives ! ! !    You know, that's the very thing my beloved asks me, then I remind her of the "save the tomato plant" fiasco during a really bad storm.   Then she reminds me of the John Dere lawnmower I ran in the swimming pool....."oh yeah, like no ones ever done that before me..."  Have they?  Oh well, no matter I didnt like that lawn mower anyway.

Went to a funeral just yesterday, and got caught in a storm. At 2 the same morning, Sunday, Jack had a grand mal seizure, and then again at 9 AM.   It takes about an hour for him to calm down after one.   So at 2 and 3 am yesterday, we're out running around the yard with him, and Dixie is running right along with us. Then we have to repeat that at 9 AM....We called the vet at 930 after Jacks seizure was over, and being Sunday I thought she would call us an hour or so later....she called at 931....our vet is really something special.

Well, maybe we can get back to normal, whatever normal is anymore ! ! !   Well, probably after all Ricks estate is settled we'll get back to normal....

Something really cool though, FIREFLIES, OR LIGHTNING BUGS as we use to call them.   They came back this week or last week. They put on quite a show. You know, everytime we see them it's like seeing them for the first time.  We sit on the porch and hold hands. Not much is said, except, "oh wow, did you see that"? ....I have always enjoyed and appreciated and been thankful for all the simple things in life, fireflies being at the top of the list.   Maybe someday some of yall can come up and set on the porch, sip on some lemonade or ice tea,  and watch em with us.

Time to go for now, one of the cats has her claws in my leg wanting me to come to bed so she can snuggle up and snore/purr in my ear....

Keep the sun at your six, and "ride boldly ride the shade replied, if you seek for eldorado"
Your frien and brother in classmate, Homer Stacy Jones Cephus....

Oh, I forgot to add a "get well" for Barbara and her other knee...Comon Barbara, quit bashin your knees all to heck and gone....AND HEAL SOONER THAN SOONEST....AND also get well to David....who always sat behind me in whichever class we had together....you know, W then Z....It didnt take me long to figure out that we sat in alphabetical order, like last year....I know, I know, I'm slowern molasses in January at the north pole....

Well, to all those suffering from one thing or another,  GET WELL ! ! ! !

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

I'm dancing!!!

Just wanted to share my good news - I had my quarterly PET scan at M.D. Anderson on Monday and saw my oncologist Tuesday for results.  What a relief to hear "your PET scan was great, whatever you are doing, keep it up."

I'm on my 3rd different endocrine therapy treatment since I ended my 26 chemo treatments in August 2013.  The cancer areas are holding stable and some areas decreased more or are not there at all.  Another amazing result is my tumor marker is now 27, in January it was 33.6 and my starting range when my journey began at MDA in September 2012 was 132.9.  Normal range is 25 and under (non cancer).  Thank you most loving GOD!!

When I was diagnosed in September 2012 with breast cancer that had mestasized to liver and bones and then told I was not a candidate for surgery ----- and it was Stage 4; my whole life flashed before me.  When you hear the "C" word your whole world just turns upside down., but through the Grace of God, I've come a long way, almost 4 years this September.  And I'm still dancing!

I hope this gives everyone of my classmates that are battling cancer or other health problems encouragement.  Keep your Faith in God, a positive attitude, mentally tell yourself you can beat it (mind over body) and dance and smile!  I know sometimes that's easier said then done when you're in pain,  but it works!

I'm so thankful to have all of you in my life!  Your love, support and uplifting prayers have kept me going.

Many many hugs, J

Thanks, Jenny!  Well, I'm not one to talk about myself, but I was so thrilled I had to share, plus I wanted to spread the word of encouragement to others.

If any of you would like to share your journey, please do.heart

Hugs, J

Jackie: What great news. Praise the Lord, He is good all the time. Here is one of my favorite scriptures; Psalm 103: 2-4 "Bless the Lord O my soul, and forget not all His benefits; Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction."

Blessings,

Chuck

Jackie, glad to hear your good news.  Cancer is a tough opponent to overcome, but medical technology is advancing quickly.  I have lost two friends to cancer (pancreatic) over the last two years.  I have another friend whose is battling bladder cancer that was discovered at Stage 4.  He had exhausted all normal and insureable treatments without success.  Just when all looked lost, he was granted admission to an experimental treatment protocol (one of the new immunotherapy approaches) and is doing remarkedly better.  So the lesson for all is to never give up, keep your options open and stay optimistic.  Miracles are happening all the time.
