Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Heard from Susan Howard Rose. She and her husband just got home from the hospital and Bryon's back surgery today went well according to his doctor.  They didn't have to spend the night in the hospital and Bryon is at the moment sleeping off the drugs.  She'll keep me posted on how the next couple of days go.  She thanks all for your prayers.

Hugs, J

Does anyone remember a gentleman named Dale Whittington? I am trying to remember if he was in earlier class year. Anyone know??

Lloyd Pond

Statue of old Jeff Davis was removed from University of Texas Main Campus and sent to a History Museum. I wonder if the Davis Mountains will be renamed? Or Fort Davis State Park? Has Houston ISD renamed Davis High School? I guess the Robert E. Lee High School has already been renamed? Anyway, a lot to think about and consider. Maybe every ten years or so, every school could be renamed, to give all the new heroes a chance to be honored. Or how about just assigning a number, like PS 123?

Scotty that is good news on Lola getting to come home. Know you will be a good nurse.

Susan, glad that Bryon's surgery is behind yall and pray that he is relieved of the pain. I've had a few back problems and know that it can be tough.

Lloyd, since Stephen F. Austin once owned at least one slave, your fair town is going to have to change its name too. I understand that the name Willieweed is the leading choice. Kind of say it like you do Willowood. The name Wackytabacky has a lot of traction too, but a town in Colorado has already applied to the USPS for that one. You guys had better jump on Willieweed or Colorado will get that one first too.

And Bill I don't recall the name Whittington, and looked in '62 and '63 yearbooks and found nothing, but hopefully someone else will remember.

Many thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers during this long ordeal!  Surgery is over, after two postponements, and we are waiting to see if the procedure will indeed bring the desired results of less pain and more mobility for Bryon.  Thank you again to the wonderful participants in this forum, as well as those of you who don't necessarily post but do read it.  We are all joined in caring for one another and keeping up with each other.

Suzy, we enjoyed and had a good laugh from your comment. That probably describes our almost 50 years of marriage in a nutshell. I'm a type A guy and am always putting my foot down on the gas pedal. Fran is more of the cautious type and is always putting her foot on the brake. So I guess our average works somehow.

But building our current house was a contradiction. After living in our last one for 36 years Fran was ready for a change. I don't really like change and was planning on us living in the old one for the rest of our lives. We all know who won that one, and once I got over the initial decision and purchase of the lot, I really enjoyed the project and now four years later we are both enjoying the end result.

Anyway you've got a lot riding on that fern living, better sneak a little extra water for it!

Sorry to advise some bad news. Classmate Billy Webster has passed away. Billy and Fran are cousins. Some of you may not remember him because he went all the way through with the class of '63, but he liked us so much he postponed his graduation so he could do it with us. The last reunion function he attended that I recall was the Friday night get together for our 45th. We had just learned last week from his daughters, through the Oak Forest Original Group on FB, that he had been suffering from heart problems and was just released from the hospital. He apparently collapsed in Kroger yesterday and his wife was driving him home when he passed away.

Billy was a great guy, a big lovable, always funny, always lively, Teddy Bear. He was always one of our favorites and he will be missed for sure.

Will advise the details when we learn the the plans.

Susan, glad Brian is recuperating well from back surgery...mine, at least my upper back surgery seems to be healing ok...just takes time...who knew?? Ah, time heals all wounds...just put in a sidewalk by back porch, but ran out of materials just 6 foot short...now my lower back hurts...arms...shoulders...legs...most everything hurts...wait, my nose feels ok, so see there, things are looking up...

Hey Jimmy S, ol roomy, how's your grandson? Give us updates if you can...we have him and your family on our prayer list...

Hope things even progrress much more better in the Scotty and Lola household...Dont think I had the pleasure of meeting Billy...heck if he's kin to Fran, musta been a great guy...my loss for sure ! ! !

Hey Bill,  I knew a Wittington in the Navy, 2nd or 1st class radioman, methinks...great big guy...maybe you ran across him in your navic travels, and just thought he was part of our class...or not! Dont know why I remembered him from the Navy, dont remember much about that period, or the people in it ! ! !  Well, they did tell us to forget what we saw, heard and did...so I did...

SUNDAY....killed 3 snakes right up close to the house...cant have that...the program of "snake amnesty" and the relocating program had expired that Saturday before....Two of those bad boys I couldnt identify...one of em howsomever, and aint there always a "howsomever", was a cobra...s kin...the coral snake...small but lethal...

Past first light, sun not over the horizen just yet...some stars still twinkling...been up since 5 or so, had to take Cooper outside...Coops not doing too well...back legs not wanting to cooperate, and he falls down some. We keep his harness on him, and make a sling out of a beach towl to put around his waist so we can pick him up...

Not eating as he should be...even put fresh chicken and beef and sausage in his bowl along with his regular kibble...sometimes he eats a bite or two, and sometimes not...

Well, he is 77...I sort of know how he feels...my back legss and hips dont want to work so well...if he hurts half as bad as I do....we have him on tramadol, and give him a monthly injection of adtran, or something like that, for his joints...

He and I and Jack sat outside lastnight, watching the twinkling of the fireflies and stars....till late...all of us dozing and snoring, well them, not me of course...not looking forward to saying goodbye...but then, who among us is ! ! !

Suzy and Sheila, so glad yall came to Fudds...of course, I talked their ears off, so if you see two lovely ladies with no ears, that be them....small group that night....missed Scotty and Lola and Rick and Janet, and Lynn Rolf and Jackie and Barbara, the Taylors, Lynn and Pat,  and all other folks that have attended in the past...Hey, DougRdoug, where you be brother?  come on down! ! !

Welllll, there that bad boy is...peeking up over the horizon..."that lucky ol sun, aint got nothing to do, but roll around heaven all day..."  Love that tune, especially sung by Frankie Lane...got a  couple of his albums...

Hey Lloyd, youll be glad to note, I have named our 1200 foot drive way to Robert E Lee Davis Longstreet Forrest Rebel Drive...What idiots we have in power...my kin fought on both sides during the American revolution and the uncivil war...some of em probably owned slaves too also...guess that makes me a baaaaaad person...I should have been back there and prevented it....yeah, that's the ticket...as bad as it was, aint a soul gonna change what happened...should have learned from it, but a lot of folks havent learned a thing, cept how to whine and cry...

There seems to be a plethora, steady supply, of folks that just stand around and wait to be offended...that seems to be their sole purpose in life, "to be offended"...I'll bet they get offended when nothing is being said that could be taken offensive..."youre not saying anything...why I'm offended by that"

My mom and her family were sharecroppers at one time, and picked cotton...they saved their money and bought the farm at batesville arkansas right along the White River...160 acres...think they paid .50cents or 2  dollars an acre...oh man, how I would love to have that old farm...rich black dirt from the White river bottom land...I only remember one visit there, I was about 4 methinks...I even picked cotton...not very good at it though, my hands were too small and soft...those cotton bols would sure cut you...

What's the next name change?  How about San Jacinto....Goliad...San Antonio, and the Alamo...all blights on the American landscape...wounded knee?  Little big Horn? Whoa, here's a couple of offensive names for cities and counties...Houston, Austin, Travis, Bowie, Crockett....yeah, bad names all....

How about Oak Forest Elementary? Sounds pretty bad to me! ! !  I'm offended that I had to attend that school....Stevens Elemetary, Wainright, Fonneville, Furr...the list is endless...were all these names vetted??? (Yeah I know, it's spelled wrong, but I thought when you "vetted" someone, you gave em a corvette) maybe some of their relatives fought in the civil war on the wrong side...which side was wrong? I guess whomever lost....I say all was lost ! ! !

All sorts of atrocities commited by just about every race creed and color on the planet....ah ah ah, mustnt offend by being...us..... Where does it end?????

You know, if all those concerned with rewriting history, should partake in the tokin of the smokin of the wacky terbacky, and all move up to Colorado, they would nt care what name was what, now would they???

ok, I'm sure I riled someone up...so best head on out...
keep the sun at your six, and ride boldly ride...

Teddie, I don't stay on facebook more than 15 minutes a day, but I did see the post about billy Webster.  It was such a loving post about the kindness of a stranger.  The name didn't click until I saw your post on the forum.  My condolences to Fran's family.  I guess I haven't gotten used to the idea of being thought of as elderly.

Thanks to everyone for their Birthday Greeting over the weekend.  May we all look forward to another Health year.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Happy Birthday Llynn...you're one of the few that still look like your graduation picture....I'd say that's a pretty good present ! ! !

Snakes and skunks...Killed four snakes a week ago, Killed another yesterday, a big one...now we have skunks...I  threw rocks at them, and shot at them with my 20ga, but they are not fazed at all buy that...I had the oportunity to actually kill them, but dont really want to kill anything without a good reason...I now have one..

They skunked Jack again, this time through the fence...checked with TSC and Southerlands and all the feed stores around for skunk rid, but they say the best way is to kill them.....of all the critters on earth, why did Noah have to include them...and mosquitos, and snakes, and spiders, the list is endless...I mean, jeeze, He might as well have waited around for the unicorn, they probably smell a lot nicer than a stinkin skunk...

Well, Dianes party is looming just over the horizon...been working like a madman to get things just so...I know her party is close to the fall fling, and we really didnt want to compete with that, but Oct 3 was the onliest (east texas for only) weekend available...Dianes birthday is also Oct 1st, but she didnt want to mention that, so I did...

I know everyone will be busy from Oct 17, the fall fling, till after the first of the year, so October 3rd was it...we understand if folks cant make it....I think she has quite a few commitments from her co-workers from HISD that will be here...Hopefully we will have the skunk problem taken care of...hopefully...was out this morn at 3 looking for them...I could smell them, but never saw them.  I will look again at daybreak...

Got mah blunderbuss, "ol betsy", primed, loaded and ready...not looking forward to killing any creature, but a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do...etc...The feed store guy said use a rifle as opposed to a shotgun...shotgun makes em explode and stinkafy everything around...was gonna try to use mah 22magnum, but it isnt scoped...onliest (east texas for only) one scoped, is mah naught six...methinks that's a little too much club...dont really want to get too close to them varmints....

I dont suppose there's folks that will come out and capture them stinky varmints like they did our hog problem....

oh well, guess I'll try to catch a few winks before ol sol peeks over the ridge across the valley...
Happy trails to you, until we meet again...
your brother in classmate...Robert E. Lee Wanninski...esq

Sad news to post --- please keep our dear classmate, Judy Ramsey Bott and her family in your prayers.  Judy's husband, Ken, passed away this morning.  He was having breathing problems this week and they discovered  in the hospital he had a large cancerous tumor in his lung, but it was inoperable.  They brought him home yesterday with hospice.  Barbara Porter talked to Judy last night and then was called this morning that Ken passed away.

Correction - Barbara wanted me to post that she misunderstood.  Ken died in the hospital, he did not make it home with hospice.  I will let you know when funeral arrangements have been made.

So sorry to hear about Judith's husband. Jackie and Barbara, thank you for letting us know, and if you have a mailing address for her that would be helpful too.

Beau, I think that God created skunks and mosquitoes and maybe a few other species just to show us that he has a sense of humor. As for snakes, they are entertaining and serve several other practical purposes too.
