Jackie Crowe (Finch)

I talked to Barbara this morning, they got her up at 5:00 a.m. starting the process for 2:30 surgery today.  She said she didn’t know why that early!  She sounds pretty groggy and so we didn’t talk long.  She said to thank everyone for their prayers and support!  Her daughter, April, will be with her today.

The surgeon said her knee cap was shattered, not split as the resident doctor had told her, and the bone under her knee cap was fractured.  They will piece  together the best they can.  Please continue prayers!

Hugs,

J

I am praying for Barbara.  Such an extensive surgery has to be hard on her body.  Our old bones aren't made for these problems.

Who is in charge of music for the party?  Maybe we can make suggestions?  It might be too late.

Great News!!!  Barbara's surgery is over and the doctor said all went well and no complications. She's in Recovery Room and her daughter, April, said she was pretty much "out of it" for now.  Hopefully they will move her to her room soon once she starts rousing.

Thanks for all your prayers!

Hugs.

J

Update on Barbara --

I talked to her last night and this morning and she sounds great!  Last night she was comfortable because they had given her a nerve block to her leg before surgery, but it did wear off this morning!  So pain meds couldn't come fast enough this morning, she is finally able to get some relief.  She's not sure when she is going home, but thinks maybe tomorrow, we'll see.

Again she is in good spirits and we were discussing what she will wear to the reunion!

Hugs,

J

That's great news on Barbara, thank you Jackie for the updates. Know she will require some time and therapy to get back to normal but just thankful the surgery went well.

Jan Barnes '65 (Nimtz)

I can certainly sympathize with Barbara over her accident.  On Sept. 5th I too had an accident and broke the femur in my leg just below the hip. Surgery the following morning left me with an implanted 19" rod (just found that out from the surgeon yesterday) which is attached to my hip and an included three day stay in hospital. Two units of transfused blood later and I was sent as a live-in patient to a local rehab facility where extensive therapy has continued daily for nearly the past month.  After being away from home for four weeks and one day I was able to return home on Saturday on a walker.  Several more weeks/months of outpatient therapy begin this week as I will be taken three times per week to a rehabilitation facility.  I still have a long road ahead of me but have come so far in the last month when I was unable to even wiggle my toes.  Your thoughts and prayers are certainly appreciated.

Beau Wann, Jr.

WOW JAN...You and Barbara are at the top of our prayer list...sorry to hear about your broken femur...a hard one to heal. Both of my sons have a metal rod in one leg or the other, I think billy has a stainless rod from hip to knee on his right leg, and kevin has a titanium rod from knee to ankle on his right leg...so I know how much work it takes to get back into shape.  They were of course younger than we are and bounced back pretty quickly all things considered.

I imagine the hardest part for you is being away from home, and having to spend a month in rehab...any of my short stays in the hospital were agony, just for want of going home, so I cant imagine a whole month.  But you can sure count on your Waltrip family thinking of you and sending, we hope, healing vibes your way...

Wow, so sorry about your misery...there wont be a next time, but if there is, have someone notify the Forum, so we can start a healing circle right away.   Get well sooner than soonest...I still love your sweat shirt...We had hoped to go to Ireland and Scottland some day, but methinks our traveling days are pretty much behind us...so, when yall come over, and you have a standing invitation, whenever Curly Moe and Larry Clown School of home builders decides they want to finish our home,  bring pictures and slides of your trip, or trips...

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Oh, Jan, so sorry to hear of your demise!!  I'm with brother Beau, we are all praying for you and know you are glad to be home.  Take it easy!

Barbara came home Saturday.  I saw her yesterday and she is doing fantastic, some pain, but all in all getting around very well with her leg brace.  If she goes any distance, uses her walker for balance and to avoid another fall.  She looks great and yes, she'll be at Reunion - both nights!!!

Only 12 more days until reunion and we have 133 attendees with more sending in their money or will be paying at the door.

Hugs, J

Hey Butch,

Check it out now, just updated from my spreadsheet, headcount is now 138!  As I stated earlier the count on "Attending 50th Reunion" only shows the classmate and doesn't include count for their spouse or date.

See you soon --- 10 days until Reunion!!

Hugs,

J

I dont know why everyone makes fun of the way elaine dances. I've been known to have such great moves as that! There was that one time I was standing in an ant bed...the bee in the pants leg...a little too much kick in the moonshine...you know, the standard fare!  I second the emotion about Jackie...Lynn Burkhart has put an enormous amount of time and effort into the reunion and Barbara and Jenny, and Johnny and all the people on the committee, have contributed rather valiantly, cept maybe me. I stuffed envelopes once, and my face at several of the meetings.  Well I agreed to not do the music this go round after my fiascan attempt at the 45th.

I'm dancing with Elaine!  Only 8 more days until reunion!!!!!!!!  Well, 7 if you're coming Friday night!

Well Jackie, I thought I might surprise myself and show up as a "surprise" guest from so far away, but that has been taken away from me. I have had cataract surgery, and have one more eye to go. It seems this year the cataracts really progressed and after going for my yearly eye exam , I got slammed by the Doctor saying we cannot presribe anything except surgery, so here I go !

I wish the entire group of you a wonderous time, as it would seem that has been the case !! I hope to be down in Spring  Texas next year visiting my Brother, so I will maintain the link, and let you know so that maybe I could join you folks at Fudd some evening !! Best of luck on the Party !!!!!!!!

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Well, it would have been a nice surprise to see you.  But you certainly need to follow your doctor's advice without delay.  Praying that your surgery is quick and speedy recovery.

I'll take plenty of reunion pics and yes, if you come to town, please join us at Fudd's.

Hugs,

J

Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

I'd like to 2nd all the thank yous Sheffield put out there (and add Scotty & Lola).  Putting together an absolutely successful, enjoyable event such as the one we're being provided next weekend, takes hours/weeks/months to plan.  Each person listed has put in "the time,"  but most of all had the ideas for the event, decorations, entertainment and location.  Charles and I only gave a thumbs up after visiting The Woodlands Resort because of the original legwork Sheffield put in to find the location in the first place.  When we were still living in Houston, I was able to participate with the reunion committee and am totally aware of the time and effort required to make the reunion "work."  The fact that the reunion committee has stuck together through all these years to continue providing these great events, is a testament to their dedication to their classmates and the fact that their friendships kept their working together fun.

Along with the hard work of the reunion committee, Jackie has made their communication efforts so effective because of this great webiste she set up for all of us.  A friend told me today that when he went to his 50th reunion, he left the country club because he assumed he was in the wrong place because he didn't know any of those "old folks" (until someone he recognized assured him he was in the right place).  I laughed, but explained the beauty of our website's allowing us to keep the faces of every classmate and their family as fresh as each of us wants to post, and that's the beauty of our friendships being continued through Jackie's efforts to keep the website continually updated.

So, a huge thank you to Jackie for creating the website and to the reunion committee for sticking together through the years to continue our great reunion tradition.

I concur and 2nd all the emotions of the aforementioned...I would like to add, that in the past, what is it, 8 or 9 years since Jackie instigated this website, that I have never before enjoyed such commraderie, fellowship, and genuine downright love, as I have before the website!      What an absolute Godsend the Waltrip 64 site has been, at least for me!

Brought me out of my hermitship as a cave dweller, reintroduced me to some new old friends, brought laughter to this once hardened heart, tears of joy and sadness as well.  I have never looked forward more to anything, than to "checking the forum", and the 2nd Tuesday meeting at Fuddruckers, and of course the 45th reunion and our next and greatest, 50th!  The 20th was hard to beat, because it was held in the Emerald room of the Shamrock Hilton, our prom place!

It goes without saying, that none of it would have been possible without the actual persons of the CLASS OF 1964...and I might add some of the folks in the preceeding classes and subsequent classes...What an honor and privilege and joy to have been a part of the Waltrip Family.

Thank you, from Ol Beaucephus and his beloved,   Diane  class of 72!

Post Script: William Stewart Trail,  I was looking forward to shaking your hand, sorry you are not going to make it to the 50th,  maybe we'll be seeing you at our 75th or 100th!

Reading the last few entries on the Forum brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat!  How blessed we are to have each other.  I would ditto everything Jimmie and Beau, as well as Johnny, wrote, and would like to add how much fun it has been to work with the reunion committee.  Our class is a very special and caring group of folks.  Those of you who can't come to the reunion for whatever reason, you will be missed.  As for those of us who will be there - I just can't wait!  Be safe in your travels, those of you who are driving in.  As for all of us, "Keep on dancing as if no one is watching!"  See you on Friday!

Apple updated my system without my permission.  Those creeps.  Now they want me to drive to San Antonio  to make an appointment so they can walk me through the new features I don't want and didn't ask for.  They have given me a migraine.  They don't make house calls to fix what they started.  I can't really read what I started so I will sign off.  Maybe when I feel better I will throw a tire through their store window.

Pat, sorry you are having such trouble with "lemon" computer, er uh,  Apple computer...I gnu it was one O those fruits from the twelve food groups...Even microsoft words windows, or whatever it is, grabs our computers from time to time and "upgrades", so does web browser! Just when we get comfortable and semi-proficient on what we have, BOOM it changes it. I'm with you, make it a rather LARGE tire would you!

Susan, ever since you moved away, we have missed you at fudds, but we understand...as long as you stay in touch on the forum...

I was thinking of growing my hair out in a comb-over and a pony tail for the reonion! Whatta ya think? I think there's still time eh!  Nah, probably not a good idear. I quiered my beloved, judging from the look on her face I would have to say, she was decidedly against it!  What about an Elvis wig?  Probably not such a good idear either.

Howsomever, I will have gnu teeth, gnu glasses, and bionic ears.  Shucks, a feller couldnt ask for much moren that eh!  Well, maybe some fruitcake...I still have some left from the "fruitcake fruition" from last decade!

If I were to say pimento cheese, what's the first thing to come to mind?  "Ethel, where's that windex, that ol cephus boy is up to something"! ?  No, not that, maybe, "oh no, a meatless sandridge"?  Well, whatever, I have rediscovered PIMENTO CHEESE !   Yup, gonna probably be gnominated for a Nobel Prize!

Oops, there's the smoke alarm, breakfast is ready!

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Susan I'm with you --- so heart warming and plenty of tears!   The reunion committee and our Waltrip family are the greatest!!!  We make a great team of Champions.  We will all continue to share our love and support for one another as long as we can with God's Blessings.

As I've stated before,  when I created the website May 6, 2008,  I didn't have a clue of what I was doing -- it was truly God sent to be where we are today.  And it all started with Jimmie Sue Roach asking Jimmie Lee Smith has anyone thought about a '64 website.  Jimmie Lee passed it on to me and so there you go!!!  It has truly been a rewarding loving experience for me to get our Waltrip family back together again.

Five more days before our BIG EVENT and we have 143 attendees - cannot wait to see everyone!!

Everyone be careful and remember directions to Woodlands Resort are on homepage ---

Also note -- there's construction on 45 and some remodeling at Woodlands Resort, so please allow additional time. For your convenience at hotel there are golfcart shuttles running back and forth from parking lots, catch a ride!  There's also valet parking

Hugs and love,

J
