Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Jimmie Lee just called me- she had talked to Henny and she was doing fine.  Her doctor said everything went well as planned.  She's hoping to go home by Saturday.

Thanks for your continued prayers!  Hugs, J

Jan Barnes '65 (Nimtz)

Hey Beau, Thanks for the birthday wishes again.  Just two more days!  You've been quiet on the Forum lately so I'm wondering if you & Diane have moved?  If not it can't be long now, can it?  We're all anxious to drop in and sit a spell on your new porch.  I'm sure you will let us know when you move from the big city to God's country.

Johnny Sheffield

Hey beau

funny you should ask if I move again.

Was out mowing today and Becky was cleaning up the inside of house and making the beds

And was stung by a scorpion well welcome to the

country

Ps scorpion was under my sheet on my side of bed

Johnny, you may end up wishing I hadn't shown you this but it is a picture of a scorpion taken on a friend of mines place in South Texas a few years ago.

If you look closely you will see that the mama is carrying a bunch of babies on her back. You probably don't need to show this to Becky right now but the point is you probably have some more.

We have a problem with them from time to time, usually seems to be worse in the wetter years, in our house down at Freer. They like damp dark places like under sinks and I have heard of them hatching out in the p-trap of a sink drain, which of course always hold water.

The best thing to do is pick a time when you're going to be gone for four or five hours and set off a few bug bombs in various rooms while you're gone. They penetrate into cracks and crevices and a lot of times the next day you will find dead scorpions that you never saw, since they move a lot at night. Also they are translucent and will glow purple under a black light. You can go online and buy a cheap black light flashlight and check a room in the dark, like under a bed etc. and they will usually show up..

Anyway like you said, another of the joys of living in the country.

Of course we aren't at our place full time, but every time we leave I set off a few bug bombs and sometimes find a dead one or two when I return, and in 20 years no one in our family or guests have been bitten by one yet. I'm knocking my knuckles on my wooden head right now!

Hey Jan, nope, not moved yet! And judging from the way it's not moving along, probably be Septemember, if then! Picked the wrong builder ! ! ! Gliding along on the 8th month.   If and when it's finished, and we have accepted it, then all are welcome! If the gates open, come on up!  Probably late winter early spring when we will have an actual Official party...all the ones leading up to that will be unofficial trial pretend parties! Well, you know, practice makes perfect!  And, all yall will be put to work should you happen on by...

Still dont have a garage yet, and that's throwing a kink into things, but we will emerge trumpet! ! ! Seems everyone in the country has all the money they need, cant find a suitable, reasonable builder. Wouldnt use the idiots building our house, even to build a bird house!

All the stress of dealing with CurlyMoe&Larrybuilders.idjit, been quite a strain on this old manic depressant. Had to go to my doc, good old Doc Holliday today and get an EKG and blood pressure and referral for lung xrays. Chest and back been bothering me. EKG came out normal, blood pressure 128/76 pulse 66, which is a little high for me, but it's probably the extra pound or two I'm sportin around.  Still waiting for the xray referral !

Plus dealing with my moms alzhemiers, well, actually dealing with my sisty uglers dealing with my mom! I went one Sunday and took my guitar and was planning on just playing for my mom, but wound up playing for the whole shebang! I only know about 6 hymns and Puff the Magic Dragon, but the residents didnt seem to mind.  I can play the same one over and over, and each time is the first time they've heard it.  I take Cooper with me each time also, and he connects with most of them a lot better than I do. Only drawback, if it is a drawback, I have to keep answering the same questions over and over like, how old is she, is she a she, how much does she weigh, what kind is she. Of course I answer, but most of them have little long term memory, and no short term memory.  But, that's ok, this is what Cooper lives for, to be loved by folks! And, I get to help!

Hey Johnny and Teddie, and anyone, one of the workers told me about a product you can only get on amazon, DEMON, just for evil critters like SCORPIONS...man, I feel for you Johnny, the worker told me he got stung, and it felt like he'd been shot! You foundem on your side of the bed you say? Becky trying to tell you something?  I've found a nice necklace, or ring, or some such frilly doodad or bauble usually will keep Diane from loading my side of the bed with aligators and such!   Hells bells just take out the garbage, cook breakfast lunch and dinner and clean up afterwards. A back massage...yeah, all kinds O things to keep the evil critters out of your side of the bed!

We are sure getting anxious to get the show on the road...west bound and down...got a long way to go, and a short time to get there...

gotta sing off for now, feel a nap coming on, and sleep is a precious commodity to me!

your frien and brother in classmate...Beauregard Cephus E. Magillicutty esq.

Beau and Johnny,

I've been using Demon for many years now.  Mostly for critters around the house.  Once upon a time, you had to be a licensed exterminator to purchase the product, but it's been replaced and that is no longer a requirement for purchase.  I do believe it will not work out doors, but inside it's great.  I replaced all of the sheetrock in a house 20 plus yeara ago, and prior to doing so, I sprinkled a bit of Demon all along inside the wall board, and over a 20 year period, I only saw a few roaches, and almost all were dead or dying.  I'm on schedule to apply some to our home in Wharton any day now.

Ben

PS:  Despite the reports, dancing and taking dance lessons does not seem to do much to halt the onset of alzheimers ..... I've been a victim of that particular disase since I was about 6.  About the only thing I can remember about my youth is I could never remember anything ..... especially if it was important .....

I empathize with you Beau about your mom's lack of memory and repetition.  I have been there twice and dealing with dementia/Alzheimers is not easy.  Sometimes you just want to scream and pull your hair out.  But as you mentioned earlier (I think), the best thing to do for all concerned is just keep on answering their questions and agree with them.  If they "can't" be 97, then okay, they are 47 (even if you are 67).  If their "things were disposed of long ago, remember to say that "everything is safely stored away".  If they say their "Papa came to visit them yesterday", just ask if he is doing okay.  If someone "stole" their teeth (or eyeglasses), just search for them for awhile and then buy another pair.  Do NOT argue with them or correct them.  It is now THEIR turn to be RIGHT all the time.  And as frustrating as it is, we will most likely be there ourselves one day having our kids dealing with the same issues.  Patience IS a virtue!wink

08/09/14 09:27 PM #6550

Beau Wann, Jr.

I agree completely...my sisters choose to argue with her, or did anyway...I just agree with everything she says, and try to bring up pleasant memories! Sometimes she responds with a word or two confirming a memory, but mostly it's like changing channels on the TV every second,  and trying to make sense of that, which is impossible. But like you said, I just agree with whatever she says. At least she smiles sometimes. Last time she knew who Cooper was, but not who I was, which really doesnt bother me at all, for me!

Sorry you had to go through that twice. I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but there is something in "dying young"!  I sure hope I dont get to the full alzheimers stage, or even half there! My memory has never been that keen anyway.  Like Ben said, I forgot the important things....on purpose methinks ! ! !

Ok lads and lasses, dust off that old telescope and polish the lenses, because tonight we will be experiencing a "super moon"...using some calculations from all the equations I learned in my 4 years of algebra 1,  and with the use of my trusty old slide rule,  I have determined beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the moon will be 800 miles closer tonight, give or take a mile or two!  As you might imagine, after all these many years, I am just a smidgen rusty on my algebra 1, and slide rule,  but I feel pretty confident that my calculations are correct!

Yes, I know you must be astounded and somewhat impressed at my astute and rather complicated computations, but feel free to praise me, as I'm sure you are want to do. But know, however, I shant swoon from said praise, but keep my size 10d feet planted firmly on terra firma...

Respectfully and humbly yours, Beauregard Einstein Lee Cephus T Magilicuty Allan Badillion Trahern esq.

Henny News Update

Thursday night after Henny's sucessful surgery we exchanged texts almost all night (she was awake on and off all night and felt like texting). She reported that the medical team is pleased with the results and that she feels very blessed and extra lucky. She seemed aware and communicative.

On Friday night I spoke directly with both Henny and Roric.  Henny said the surgeon was suprised to find even more blockage that the tests had indicated and was concerned that he could even insert the tool used to remove the blockage in the very small opening that remained unclosed; however his formidable skills prevailed and the blockage is cleared, in fact she has been moved from ICU to a less intensive care room (another good indicator).

Henny was having a massive temporal headache and naussea Friday; but this, through very uncomfortable, is actually a good sign because the headaches are caused by the reaction to new blood flow now reaching her temporal loobe and the naussea is simply a reaction to the headaches, both temporary.  She and Roric plan to stay as long as seems prudent; however, all is going so well that they may be out of the hospital by Saturday night.

Henny asked (over and over) that I be sure to express her heart felt thanks for all of the thoughts, well wishes, and prayers of her classmates. Roric commented on how lucky Henny is to have such a close knit bunch of long time friends.

I'll post any future updates as I have them. On Henny's istructions, I send all of you TEXAS SIZE HUGS until she can deliver them in person.

Heard from Henny last evening via text and she said they are back at her home in Houston and she needs to take it easy for a week - rest, watch her blood pressure, light activity.  Lots of prayers answered.

We just heard last night that classmate Carolyn Wright's mother has passed away. Carolyn has lived with her mother and taken care of her for a number of years. Carolyn and her family are long time friends of the Websters. She brought her mom one night to join us all at Fudd's and it was good to see them both. We are so sorry for your loss Carolyn and have total admiration for the wonderful job you have done of helping and taking care of your mom .

Also so glad and thankful for Henny's amazing progress.

Teddie, thank you for your post.  My Mom has been sick for a very long time and in Hospice for the past 6 weeks.   She went fast and that was a blessing, its hard to watch your loved one suffer.  She is finally at peace and I thank God for that.

Carolyn my prayers are with you during this difficult time.   My parents died 1989 and 1990 a year apart, they were my best buddies!  Not a day goes by without reflecting upon their wonderful memories.

You are right, hard to watch them suffer, your mom is now at peace.

Hugs,

J
