Beau Wann, Jr.

Yes, WTL, good luck indeed on your move!  And rest assured, no one will talk bad about you...in all my borned days I dont recollect ever hearing a discouraging word about you...or for that matter anyone in our class...looking forward to seeing you and all that can attend the re onion. Bring along some of your best fishing tail tales..."the young man and the sea"...

Read a biography on Detrich Bonhoffer, a short one...pretty good one, but I always wonder how the biographer got the exact conversations down that Bonhoffer had with other folks at that time...Even though  Germany was only weeks away from surrendering, Hitler was obssessed with revenge on those that had plotted against him, he had Bonhoffer executed for his part in the failed attempt on his life...Bonhoffer and his group, a Nazis counterespionage group, kept written records of the attempts, just in case they were successful so the allies would know who had done it and act accordingly, and that was their undoing!

Hey WTL, I am rereading Texas Cattle drivers...thanks again for a great read! ! ! Taking Cooper down to Autumn Leaves Memory care residence again. He was a much better tonic to those folks than my guitar playing and singing!

Hey Scotty, hope you and the lovely Lola are fairing better healthwise...as we hope that everyone is fairing well healthwise...my PMR seems to have subsided without meds, and for that blessing, I am ever grateful!  The Scandinavian twisted sisters Olga and Helga seem to have been called back to Scandinavia...yea! ! !  The treatment for PMR is prednisone, a drug I have had to take for my lungs...It makes me wackier than my normal wackiness! Glad It wasnt prescribed this time!  Guess the reason it wasnt, is because good old Doc Haddock said there was no known cause and no known cure!

Good luck WTL, on your closing! You must be ecstatic about your opportunity to live on the water you love so much!  Not sure where you will be located, but I've wanted to ride pegasus to Corpus and go aboard the Lexington!  They say wait until fall or winter, because it isnt air conditioned below decks...One MC group went down there a couple of years ago and they loaded about 50 MCs on the plane elevator and took them to the flight deck and photographed them for some magazine. I think it was HOG #1 group...Maybe if I head that way, you will know where the good seafood places are, and we can meet and shoot the breeze and chew the blubber, eh what? Probably wont be this year!

      Happy trails myne fyne waltripynes...

Thanks to everyone for the great birthday wishes.  I had a wonderful birthday.  The best part was getting the air conditioner working after two days off while we were moving in.  We have returned after thirteen years to Rockdale where we were for 35 before that.  Did lots of painting and updating, but now live back in the old neighborhood.  Have many long time friends here and are just one hour away from the four younger grandchildren who are in the Austin area.  Plan to return to Houston and Katy frequently to visit our daughter and her family there, as well as Mom.  She will stay at the assisted living for now, but says she may join us here at some point.  If she comes here, she would miss visits from neighbors and church friends.   Friends and family are really what it is all about.  Looking forward to seeing you all at the reunion.

Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

I just wanted to pass on information from Henny Banning.  She and her finance, Roric, are in Reno, NV and day before yesterday, she was taken to the ER and they discovered she has had what she is calling a "resolved stroke."

Today, they did more testing and found 70% blockage in her internal carotid artery and 80% blockage in right carotid artery.  They wanted to do surgery, but since she worked for the best - Dr. DeBakey - they are flying into Houston tomorrow evening and she has already contacted past associates in Dr. DeBakey's service and a Cooley associate who trained with DeBakey.  Not sure from texts and voice mail messages whether she actually has an appointment set up for next week or not.

Please say prayers that she has no complications before actually seeing a surgeon in Houston.  Being Dr. BeBakey' s right-hand for so many years, she's dealt with patients from all over the world, but now when she's dealing with her own health problem in her area of expertise, it's not as easy to deal with.

I'll keep you posted when I hear more.

Teddie Jordan

Thanks for letting us know Jimmie Lee. Fran talks to Henny fairly often by phone and text, but had not heard that. We pray for a good resolution and are glad she's coming to Houston for analysis and treatment. And with her connections she should be able to get quick access to the best. Henny has finally found true love and hopefully can soon get back to enjoying the good life she so deserves.

8/4  Monday - 6:06 p.m. - text Henny sent to Jimmie Lee - please continue to pray for our dear classmate and friend. Hugs, J

"Just finished with Dr. Atar (Methodist). I will be in his office in a.m. for a stress test and repeat of carotid dopplers. While he believes the Reno, NV doppler studies are accurate.  Dr. Atar has recommended Dr. Gerald Laurie from Australia, my birthplace.  Which the first time I met him he was sitting by the pool in the Houston sun, we were neighbors!

They are recommending a right carotid endarderectomy - not a stint placement.  I appreciate the prayers, I need them.  Dr. Laurie trained with Dr. DeBakey and operated on former First Lady, Barbara Bush.  This touches my heart for the obvious reasons.

I have been visitng with my dear friend at Texas Heart.  I will make my final decision this evening.  I have to be comfortable wherever I go, both are top hospitals.  I wish there were no such decisions to make.  I send this with my love and affection for each and all of you.  God's Blessings, Henny and Roric."

I texted back and forth with Henny this morning between 7am & around 8 and assume she's now in surgery.  The procedure was pioneered by Dr. DeBakey, so there have been many years for other doctors to perfect it even further.  She's at peace that God is the actual surgeon using the doctors' brains and hands to do His work for Him and knows The Lord made His plans for all us when we were created.  Please say prayers for her fiance' Roric as he's facing this waiting time.
