Good nafteroon mine fine waltripines...laid Mr Boswell to rest Tuesday...one of the really good guys...and here's a kicker for you, my dad is buried not 20 yards from Mr Boswell...hows that for eerie...do de do do, do de do do do de do do..(.theme from twilight zone)...I hadnt been to my dads gravesite since he was buried back in 96...I tried to find it once, a few years back and never could...had my beloved with me this time, and she marked it on a map, plus there were ducks and geese hanging around, so next time, I will just look for the ducks and geese and it should be around there somewhere...

Fudds was fun as per usual...usual suspects were there except the ones that werent...had a semi-new face, Mr Tom Gann....alright now, give it up for Mr Tom Gann...yeaaaaa whistle whistle...ok, calm down, get a holt of yourselves....I must say, that Tom as with most of you, looks just like he did back in HS...well, maybe a few pounds added, and a few gray hairs, but who amongst us doesnt have that...Great infectious smile and laugh has that Mr Gann...even though we were a few shy of our normal crowd, we still had a quartet, so we could vote on stuffffff...and we did too...so if you missed fudds, you missed a good time...and Tom, whom I think of as one of the really good guys...of course, I think that about almost everyone...but it was good to see him...he said he was coming to Clays...

We all worked on each others maladys ie back problems, shoulders etc...I'm a brain surgeon, so there really wasnt much for me to do other than drink and get rowdy...I did get a new doctor to go to for my back...accordion to Charlie and Lynn, this sawbones walks on water...well, got me an A ppointment with him this Monday at 1:45 pm in the afternoon, so we will see what we will see eh waht! ! ! ! !

Rode Pegasus yesterday and today...rode out 80 miles, and filled er up, and rode back...had lunch at the Chapel Hill sausage factory...hmmmm gooooood....we're looking for a home out that way, sorta...saw  one for a couple a mil and thats a little more n I wanted to pay for one, so I will keep looking...gotta have a screened in porch, and a porch both front and back...maybe a squeaky screen door off the kitchen...a couple O acres, maybe, NO HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION...NO CEMENT POND...oh, and one story tooooo...also...no stairs...

Looking forward to moving...AGAIN...just love totin and fetchin boxes and furniture...

as of this writing, we will be at CLAYS, although Diane might be late cause she has a wedding to attend....we need any music???? I suppose I could sing, and do a little "soft shoe"fer ya I suppose and reckon...

Nap time...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Gloria Hornick (Walker)

Sorry I will miss Clay's next week.  We will be on vacation.  Have been traveling a lot recently, and also taking a class that meets on Tuesdays, so have missed Fudd's, too.  Good to hear what everyone has been up to.  Take care of yourselves and hug those you love!

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

We had a great time at Fudd's - so many laughs!  Will be posting pictures soon.  Remember Clay's this Saturday.  Sorry for those that cannot come.  Susan, certainly hope your husband is doing better and we'll see you and Gloria, enjoy your trip!

I hope to be there, maybe a little later in evening, just according to both the procedures I'll have this week. Wouldn't you know it they scheduled two back to back on Thursday and Friday at M.D. Anderson.  Implant port on Thursday and liver biopsy on Friday.  As many of you know, I'm facing more challenges. THANK YOU ALL FOR ENCOURAGING ME ON with cards, emails and calls, couldn't do it without you and my family!  Love and hugs, J

Mark your Calendar for another fun Mini '64 Class Reunion

October 20, 2012

Johnny Sheffield has done it again --- booked another "good times" at Clay's for '64 "mini-reunion". It will be Saturday, October 20 at Clay's - 17717 Clay Road. All classes are welcome!

We have our own private Pavalion. It's the same type of setup as Fuddrucker's, but hopefully on a larger scale so our "OUT OF TOWNERS" can join us. Just show ----- food and drinks will be at your own expense. Time will be 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Barbara Raines and I and others will be helping Johnny, so if you have any questions, let us know.

At the end of the evening those that are on the Reunion Committee will meet to discuss more details of our 50th Reunion scheduled for 2014. Johnny and Lynn have been working hard gathering information from various hotels to present to the committee.

Susan Howard (Bowman)

Jackie, you are an inspiration to us all!  You keep on going and lookin' up - you have a fantastic attitude and, as you know, that is a major part of fighting this monster!  Things are better here, plus I now have a back up caregiver if I need one, so I am planning on being there on Saturday!  Can't wait to see everyone!  Gloria, have a great trip and we'll catch you next time!

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Thanks, Susan, and so glad you are now able to come to Clay's.  Our prayers for your husband's improved health issues.

As usual there's a change of plans at MD Anderson.  They called me after lunch, still liver biopsy on Friday, but the Port Implant has been delayed until Monday.  They feel I need a little more time between procedures!  So hopefully I'll be at Clay's if all goes okay on Friday.  They have told me where they have to go in, is near the lung so they could puncture!  It's rare but could happen and of course they have to tell you all of this.  Just pray it all goes well.

Hugs,

J

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey "all yall", yes, went to mah sawbones appt on Monday...he was wondering why I was still alive...said it would kill an ordinary human bean...I guess thats one good thing about not being ordinary...they had me fill out a sheet with all that is wrong with me, so I tell em, neck, back, both shoulders, both hips and both knees, right elbow,  and achillies tendon on my right leg, and they say, "one thing at a time"...well, dont ask, if you dont want to know...

Doc got out his little hammer, and smacked me on the knee and above heel on left foot, and then above heel on right foot...just a bout had a stroke the pain was so bad...I forgot that my achillies tendon was inflammed...he said there was a knot there that looked like a tear...oh goodie...oh, and BP was 144/110, which is extremely high for me...guess it was the pain...in so much pain, cant keep a thought in my head...

Doc kept wanting me to lean this way and that way, and turn this way and that...barely could do all that without a lot of pain...xrays looked ok, so next will come MRIs...

Doc gave new meds to me, Naproxen (napersyn) which is just Aleve, but bout 3 times stronger, and some tramadol (ultram)...and as luck would have it, the naproxen causes my lungs to want to tighten up, and the tramadol, does just like vicodin, makes me sleepy, but wont let me go to sleep...guess I'll call him up tomorrow and give him the good news...just from the look on his face Monday, I got the feeling he didnt believe what I was telling him...most docs find it hard to believe what I go through with the wonderful whirld of medicine...so do I...

I havent slept in about a week...I guess there will come a point of "critical mass" where I'll collapse and get some sleep....somethings gotta give sooner or later...getting grunchy and pouchy (which is grouchy and punchy)...

All our cats are taking turns "nursing" me back to health...when I lay down and try to nap, which I dont get, one kitty will lay at my head, and one will lay at my feet, changing places from time to time...

Meanwhile, feels like I have a pole stuck in my lower back...but othern all that, I'm fine...I'd just like to go to sleep for a couple of hours...

My stuff is nothing...It's Jackie we got to all get behind...You feel it Jackie??? the love???? Been talking to "the man" hoping he's listening...probably sounds like all the "George Bailey Prayers" in heaven...maybe "Clarence the angel 2nd class" will visit you and get this stuff straightened out...Meanwhile, LEAN ON US...thats what friends and family are for....I know you have Carrie and Barbara to help, but if there is any thing any of us can do for you out here, give us a shout...You are already on our prayer list at church...the minister Noelie Day mentions your name out loud every Sunday, along with others...

Dont wait in a waiting room by yourself, call one of us...call me...we can count floor tiles or ceiling tiles together...thats what I do in a waiting room...other than wait...

Took Cooper to Jefferson Elem in HISD today...the lady in charge of the reading program, says the kids just are beside themselves waiting for us to get there...she says she notices a BIG difference to the good in the reading skills of Coopers students...I say GREAT, thats what we're there for...it's nice to see results...

Tomorrow they are having the "Official opening" of the Dr Ben Carson Reading room, and Cooper and I are invited to the festivities...guess we will be there...dont want to disappoint the kiddos...

Ok, gonna try to go to sleep...AGAIN...wish me luck...or sleep...

10/17/12 12:25 PM #5312

Beau Wann, Jr.

Well well well, actually got about 6 hours sleep last night. 4 in one stretch, and 2 in another...forgot how good it feels to sleep, and well too...actually had a dream about a HUGE BOOK of Charles Dickens...I think maybe I lived in that book, because I kept going in and out of it, as did other folks...Dont know where that came from, havent watched A Christmas Carol since last year, and havent read any Dickens in quite a spell...I have GOTTEN  the dickens though, maybe thats what it''s all about...Alfie...that and or the hokey pokey...

Me and coop just got back from the Grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Dr Ben Carson Reading Room...good folks the staff and teachers at Thomas Jefferson Elem...From the principal on down, they all work hard to make a difference in those kids lives...

Gonna try to make Clays...just depends on whether I can weather the weather...or not...I dont know, I have long since lost charge of myself...aliens got me...planet remulac I suppose...Or Plutonians...oh thats right, Pluto got demoted...how can they be allowed to do that, demote a planet???? What is it now, a semi-planet??? Non-planet???? Planet Hollywood???? Jeese, they oughten to mess with my brains like that...Guess they will have to rewrite the text books at the Jethro Beaudine Cypherin, Double naught spyin, and brain surgery school...

Just got a phone call from someone that wants to reduce my "student Loan" ! ! ! ! OH REALLY????
I dont recollect taking out a loan for school...the 25 years I was in residency at HCC probably didnt cost 300 dollars...hells bells, I probably put more money in the vending machines than it cost to go there...

And now a word from our spnsor..."Friends, do you have trouble with trouble??? Why just tune in to "Brazillian Butt lift, and stupendous Bra blowout"...Yeah, those are just some of the really fine and interesting TV shows on
our cable system...not too thrilled about seeing a "brazillian butt lift", but the "Bra Blowout" has sorta peeked my curiosity...I know, a mind is a terrible think, too wit...

Me and Cooper stopped in at Chick Fila' for some chinese food...the live person little girl taking orders before you get to the speaker, bout had a coronary...I rolled the winder light (east texas for window) down, and bout the time we got to her, Cooper stuck his head out the winder to place his order for some chicken nuggets...I thought she was gonna faint...finally she collected herself and took our order, after shaking hands with perfesser Cooper...he wouldnt let her go otherwise...

Ok, Jackie, time for me to go...I hope you got at least a semi-smile and or semi-chuckle from my madness...I know I did...in fact, I just crack me up...besides being cracked...remember when we use to tell folks, "youre cracked"???? Well, in my case, it is true...

Your frien and brother Beauregardcephus...resident nut..

Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

Beau, if you continue getting yourself in your condition by riding your motorcycle for 86 miles, then you can surely get Diane to help you into a vehicle and get to Clay's - just say'n!  We all want to see you and Charles and I have a really great grits recipe to give you, so you'd better be there.

10/17/12 05:38 PM #5314

Beau Wann, Jr.

Well, since you put it that way, I BE THERE...for sure...grits receipes trump all other excuses...well, that and I am looking forward to seeing all of you...I think Diane will show up a bit later because of a wedding she must attend...Husbands arent really expected to attend weddings...thank goodness, unless it is their own, and in some instances, maybe not..."here hun, you just stand here at the bar, and I will come get you later, and then voila, we are married..." or woids to that defect...

Would you believe I took a 4 hour nap this afternoon???? UBELIEVABLE! ! ! ! ! ! ! Guess my body is just catching up, eh what! ! ! I should be rested by Saturday and hopefully not A rested.

Havent heard from the little woman today bless her heart, she has to deal with all sorts of things, none of which involve TEACHING...she is talking RETIREMENT...I say YES! ! ! ! !  Then maybe I can get a few things done around here...ok, dont tell her I said that...maybe I'd better get the whiteout....ok, there you go...

wonder why this whiteout doesnt work, I still see the offending statement on the line above the whiteout now...and it's getting hard to read this with so much whiteout on the screen...hmmm, wonder why they didnt cover this at HCC ! ! !

Dang, I was hoping Diane would get home soon, because tonight is her double choir night...Bell choir, and singing choir...which will put her home about 9...boooo...I even have supper on the stove...well, it's a can of soup, but at least I'm working on it...havent actually started heating it up yet...actually havent even opened the can yet, but I want it to be fresh for my beloved...I did eat some of the crackers, just to make sure they were fresh and also not poisonous...you know how crackers are! ! ! Those bad boys can go bad in a minute...

Guess I'd better go so I can take another nap...nah, just funnin ya...but I really do need to get in a "bedtime" frame of mind...if you will...and even if you wont...

sooooo, keep the sun at your 6 and ride boldly ride...to clays...BUT, BE CAREFUL ! ! !

Teddie Jordan

Jimmie Lee, I made my living in sales but you put me in the shade.

Very persuasive!

Hope you're feeling much better by then Cephus, and sure hope Jackie can make it too.

10/18/12 08:49 AM #5316

Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

Teddie, Charles actually calls that "nagging" and says I'm the queen of it.  And, after 44 years, it still doesn't work on him.  Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday night.

10/18/12 09:43 AM #5317

Beau Wann, Jr.

Yes, thats what I'm talkin about....YES ! ! ! ! I love sleep, sleep is good...got it? get it ! Good ! ! !

You know, strangely nuff (east texas for nuff), riding my motorcycle does not hurt my back atoll...Riding in my truck or dianes exploder does, big time...I mite just ride to clays...pose to be a beautiful weekend, no rain no snow, no hail...hail no...

Although my beloved did call yesterday on her way home and said..."Hi sweety"...(she calls me sweety sometimes) hmmm where was I, oh yeah, "hi sweety" she says..."Hi sweety" says I...I know, I know, sappy and syrupy, but what do "all yall" suspect from newlyweds huh ? ? ? ?

Anyways, she says that she is sitting on the pierce alligator and slowly moving by the Sam Houston Park and there is this BIG OL HUGE MAPLE TREE, growin rat up there next to the freeway...she says, "gonna get real cold, cause all the maple leaves on this tree I'm sitting next to, has turned inside out"...! ! ! ! "What"? says I, so she repeats what she said, and thats what I thought she said. "Really" Says I???? "yup" she says, "gonna turn cold, cause when the maple leaves do what they have done, that means cold weather"..."and maple trees dont lie"....

Now, I am an expert and leading authority on the weather and nature, and never heard that one before...musta got left out of the text books at the Jethro Beaudine School of middle learning...Now I have my mukluks out and ready to lace up, and my Edmondson parka and snowshoes, Balto sled all ready to go by the back door...I really dont think that 70 degrees constitutes COLD WEATHER...but I am hopeful...

Poor charles...my wife does not nag, I dont allow it, I wear the pants in the family...hold on my beloveds calling from her pay phone...".Yes dear, I've washed the dishes, and got a load of clothes in the washer and dryer, and I've cleaned out the litter boxes and made the bed, and drank my orange juice and took my pills...yes dear...love you too....bye sweety..."

Ok now where was I... oh yeah, my wife does not nag...really, well, not really nagging, as much as it is constructive direction...sometimes even Einstein had to be pointed in the right direction...

Looking forward to Clays and seeing everyone that can make it, and be glad to see all those that cant make it also too...Yall want me to bring some grits???? How about Dark Chocolate malted milk balls???? I can you know...I know a guy!!!!!

Ok, gotta run, Big Oliver is sitting in the swing giving me the evil eye so I will come swing with him...
Keep the sun at your 6...hmmm there is no sun today, but if YOU DO see it, your suppose to keep it at your 6 and ride boldly ride...to clays...and be what???? CAREFUL, THATS WHAT! ! ! !

10/18/12 10:57 AM #5318

Beau Wann, Jr.

44 YEARS JIMMIE LEE???? WOW! ! ! ! ! Thats great! ! ! how many years for you and Fran, Teddie???

Anyone else got that many or more??? We need to give out awards and prizes for that sort of accomplishment dontchathink???

Diane and I just have 28...I was hoping to have 50 at some point, but thats a hunert years away, and dont think I'll be around then...probably out trying to find a younger woman...Diane was complainin about her back...Oh no, only one person allowed per household with a bad back...so, if she cant push me around in my wheelchair, then I got to find a younger woman to do that...Diane is fine with that, as long as she gets pushed too...you know, this isnt working out like I had planned...

10/19/12 07:14 AM #5319

Teddie Jordan

Beau to answer your question, this coming February 4 Francine and I will have been going steady for 51 years, and that same day will be the 47th anniversary of our going steady  by the legal definition.

I guess that means that in three years, when it's our 50th, I'm going to have to come up with something a little more romantic than a new vacuum cleaner or a shotgun!

Let's all say an extra prayer for Jackie today.

10/19/12 10:50 AM #5320

Beau Wann, Jr.

WOW...DOUBLE WOW...What an acomplishment...I guess you and fran win the grand prize, whatever in the heck that is, and Charles and Jimmie lee are first runners up...nah, what the heck, yall all get the grand prize...
See, now a good husband, and an alert husband, a caring husband will say, "why darlin, I dont need no grand prize, youre the grand prize anyway"...

I think for a 50th wedding anniversary, is that silver? that Fran probably needs a new silver plated shotgun or deer rifle...yeah, and she can probably smack you over the head with it for buying it, and me over the head for mentioning it...hmmm, this aint workin out like I planned...

ok, both boys are walked, and I did a plethora of work yesterday, so time to saddle up Pegasus and ride...
Guess I'll go up to brenham or some such exotic place...maybe have lunch, or at the very least, coffee and a honey bun...

See all yall at Clays tomorrow...

Your frien and brother, beauloneycephus...

10/19/12 12:05 PM #5321

Susan Howard (Bowman)

Beau - the 50th anniversary is GOLD!!!  And anyone who stays married that long deserves a SOLID GOLD something or another!  Don't you agree?  I actually knew a couple who were married 75 years!!  They were quite a pair!  He just recently died at the ripe old age of 98.  She is still living!  I asked them what their secret was and they both told me 2 things:  1) you must keep your sense of humor:  2)  the answer (for him) was always "Yes, dear!"

See ya'll tomorrow!

10/19/12 12:59 PM #5322

Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

I think Glenda and Larry are close to Fran & Teddie.  Saw Ruthellen Winters Schmidt last Saturday and they've been married 46 years.  Charles and I dated off & on for 6-1/2 years, so that's 50-1/2 years together - OFF & ON.  As Charles always says, there have been about 25 "kinda of good" years - OFF & ON.

10/19/12 05:47 PM #5323

Beau Wann, Jr.

So Fran gonna get a gold plated shotgun or deer rifle or tackle box...man thats too cool...I know fran has to be excited...What was 25? Silver??? Hmmm, wonder what I did for Diane...probably nothing, as usual...maybe that was the year I put the lawnmower in the pool...that was certainly a memorable ocasion...wasnt, perhaps, one of my more STERLING moments, but  I do keep her entertained...

Diane is on her way home, and should be here withing 30 mins give or take a hour or two depending on the traffic...she should be passing that maple tree with the upside down leaves, or inside out leaves, right about...now...wonder what they're gonna tell her today...SNOW IS ON THE WAY...

Rode Pegasus for a couple of hours...what wonderful weather for riding...I rode down through the old neighborhood, and as I was traveling down Chickentale street, the stretch between TC Jester and Donna Bell, there was a hawk standing in the water at the curb...now, thats an omen for sure...tha hawk was thirsty being the most probable of those omens...

Rode down DuBarry, and there are only 4 of the old houses standing between Oak Forest and ebony. Our old house and 3 others. they have torn down the houses on both sides of our old house, and as delapidated as it looks, it is probably not far from the wrecking ball...There was something more homey about that house than any other I'VE EVER lived in, including the one I'm in now...Probably has something to do with living there during my formative years...

Thought I saw a snowflake, so guess I'd better bring in some firewood and get a can of chili cooking on the stove...

SEE ya tomorrow...youse youtes...

Oh, forgot. Diane went to her 40th reunion last Saturday...I went to the last couple of hers, but I was bored to tears...me and another old guy sat out in the lobby and slept...dont have a lot in common with most of those youngsters...just Diane...she said our class is so much more gooder...well, no doubt about that...

I will be early tomorrow...dont want Ms Brawner to give me any demerits for being late...probably take away my Grits...although I do like to make an entrance...Diane on the other hand, will be late due to a wedding she has to attend...

10/20/12 05:30 AM #5324

John Burgess Webb

i visit those streets in oak forest via google earth these days.the old house on chippendale has been remodled but looks basically the same.my grandfather and grandmother moved into that house from a house on ebony when we moved onto cheshire.if you want to get a kick,go on google earth and check out oak forest park.the shape of the pool is very clear and was unique for its day;many memories of running around to get in line for the next hour shift.sometimes it was crowded and had to wait an hour to get back in but it was worth it.sometimes it wasnt too crowed and would swim 2-3 hours.mother joined the oasis club across the street behind the gizmo and i liked to sit around the pool and drink ginger ale.it was smaller than the public pool and you can still see it from the satilite.i cant remember the name of the pool over by the american legion on gulf drive but had been there a few times.anybody remember?the ymca had a pool that would float a battleship.me and phillip would walk down the rr tracks to go to the y on saturday mornings.good times.

burge

10/20/12 09:49 AM #5325

Glenda McDonald (Smith)

The answer to Jimmie Lee's statement.   Larry & I met when we were 10years old in the 5th grade.

That is when my parents were transferred from Ft. Worth to Houston.  Then we were boyfriend-

girlfriend, going steady, engaged.....so Larry adds those ten years to us being together. We married

February 19, 1966.  So, we have been married 46yrs, coming up on 47yrs...and then add 10 years

that is 56 years of our life we have been together!!!! whew!!  Only a couple of break-ups for a very

short period of time.. We are still in love!!

10/20/12 01:08 PM #5326

Beau Wann, Jr.

Ok, thats 3 couples that win the grand prize...An all no expense not paid vacation for as long as you like, to Muldoon, Texas...no really, what a love story for Larry and Glenda, Fran and Teddie, and Charles and Jimmie lee...I'm sure there are probably others out there...that is so cool...

Went to a head hunter after i retired...thought I could get another interesting job, not in retail...The headhunter wanted to meet Diane also, so we went together...Diane told him she had been with HISD for 30 years...he told us we were the very "pillars of the community...but unfortunately the world doesnt want that anymore...he said I had three things going against me...I was too old, I was not multi-degreed, and I had been with one company too long...That last one floored me...WAS WITH ONE COMPANY TOO LONG???? I retorted..."yup" says he..."companies want employees to move  around and not stay with one company more than a couple of years"

What happened to "LOYALTY" says I...Companies today, dont care about it...Judging from the workers that come my way I see the result of no loyalty...STUPID...lazy, dishonesty etc...

See what loyalty does...produces and cements, relationships like Larry and Glenda, Fran and Teddie and Jimmie lee and Charles...

No Loyalty in todays workforce and companies! ! ! ! ! Thats the stupidest thing I have ever heard of...no wonder this nation is floundering around...that and George soros and his ilk...There I go again, getting political...sorry...not for feeling the way I do, but for bringing it up...

Fall is here for sure, my nose is running and I am sniffling and sneezing and feel miserable and probably look worse...why do I feel the worst on the days I should feel my best, like a mini reunion at Clays...

Oh hey Burge, that pool you mentioned was called the Fisher Pool, after the name of the street it was on...

10/20/12 09:36 PM #5327
