*i mistated the commander of the vietnamese marine corp.it was not maj deveraux but lt.col.victor croizat who was chosen for that advisory position in 1954.deveraux was famous for his command in ww2.with the establishment of the vietnamese marine corps came the first command of the military advidvisory command vietnam or mac-v. croizat could speak french so he was a natural snap-in for that command.my appologies for the error, should have double checked the name first;sorry covan.

Lloyd, that is not totally all right ....to make us hungry without passing it out!

Still enjoying all of your quips...go Beau...you do need another job...Burge...always alert us of what went on in that war. We appreciate having your info that we would not get anywhere but here...those demons.  Rich, hope all is well, certainly sounds well.

Me, struggling with report cards and trying to medicate and survive these 'ole critters here. Wish my diet was working.

Ok Lloyd, now thats just wrong...chocolate merangue pie taunting, is against the geneva convention, not to mention cruel and unusual punishment, and just dang wrong...
Maybe, just maybe, I can talk the little woman into going to The Barbeque Inn...they allus have chocolate pie...
We have found that we have to go just for desert, because if we order dinner, even though it's only one dinner, that we are too full for desert...

I did have lunch Tuesday at Triple A diner on Airline drive, in front of caninos/old farmers market...I had never eaten there, and sorry that I missed out lo these many years...IT WAS MOST EXCELLENT...I had the meatloaf, which was just above mediocre, but still good, (not as good as mine) also had mashed potatoes and gravy, well duh, thats a given, and they were excellent, also had purple hull peas, and mustard greens, which the latter was probably as good a batch O greens as I have ever had the good fortune to sample...last batch O greens I had that were that good, were home grown by my exfatherinlaw in the heights on 619 east 10 and 1/2 street in 1970...until tuesday, I had never had their equal...Triple A buys all their produce and fruit from, where else, Duh, farmers market!!!! the above lunch was 10 dollars, and well worth every penny...just sorry I didnt check the desert menu, but that is a problem I will rectify on my next visit...I hear tell, that their chicken and dumplins are a stand in line event, on thursday...Might just have to try them tomorrow...I should have time before me and "mellow yellow" go to school...

We had our WABEC meeting to day at JAX grill on shepherd at I-10, and it was one of our better ones...there was a quota, 6 members in good stead..I quickly brought the meeting to order, cause I could see some of the members were becoming unruly...had my hand on my cell phone ready to call our sargent at arms, MR TUSA...of course that quieted everyone down...read minutes of the last meeting, actually they were seconds...

EVERYONE can breathe a sigh of relief, we, the gang of 6, settled all outstanding bidness in the whirld...yup, we all agreed on who was doing wrong, and voted on em to quit it, solved all problems on oith...so on to the bidness at hand, BURGERS AND FRIES...YEAH, THATS WHAT I'M TALKIN ABOUT...

In all seriousness, all attendees were in pretty good spirits, and never a more jovial group could be found anywhere...John A; Richard Mc; Jim T; Rich the LH; Dr John, and moi...and as an extra added bonus, my lovely beloved joined us in the last 30 minutes...we all rose as she came to the table...(remember that boys and girls??? How a gentleman, regardless of age, would stand up when a lady, regardless of age, would enter or leave a room, or table!!!) thats one old timey tradition that I think, if brought back, would do the whirld some good, dont you???? Well, I do, and thats the truth tbbbbbbbb!!!!

If you missed this meeting, you missed a goodun...I want to tell you about a person that is so dedicated and committed and indefatigable in his efforts to promote Waltrip HS into the forefront of education, Dr Enloe...

He is relentless in his pursuit of excellence and the promotion of the WALTRIP legacy, not just his class and the early classes, but of the 20 plus thousand graduates of Waltrip, and to make sure that everything possible is being done to assist the staff and teachers in their endeavors to try to teach todays youtes, which aint an easy task. He has almost singlehandedly, gotten the renovating of Waltrip going, gotten the Principal on board with the alumni board, brought in Mr Tusa and a cast of thousands..

Why do I sing his praises??? Simply because Dr John is a good man to have on our side, or anyones side...He and I belong to different political parties, and absolutely no friction between us, honestly...I would be willing to bet that there isnt an ounce of daylight of difference between what he and I both believe...maybe how we go about it, but probably even that we could reach an agreement...

He is extremely knowledgable of everything he speaks of, and knows a plethora of very important people, which in this day and age, hell any day and age, is a necessity...and he keeps up with most all the local political events that happen in Houston...I dont think I have ever met anyone as passionate about something as Dr Enloe is about the Waltrip Alumni Assoc...Rich the LH is also on the Board...Richard is also a good man to have on your side, lucky Paige!!! In fact, everyone at that table today, is as good a man as can be...their parents and past teachers should be very proud, and I imagine they are...so if anyone feels as stongly about Waltrip as does the good doctor, you might want to contact him and see if there is anything to assist on...

fact is, you can say that about anyone in our class and surrounding classes...Ok, enough with the kudos and praise...I just think it should be known JUST HOW great the folks are from our era are...It has been written about, that OUR parents were from the greatest generation, but as good as they were, I'm not sure GREATEST really applys to any generation, with the exception of the era of the founding fathers, now there were some really great folks...I would have to say, our generation is pretty good too, all in favor say aye??? all opposed??? seems the ayes have it, motion passed, now on to next order of bidness...SLEEP...well for some anyway...

Hey burge, I missed that error you made, like none of the rest of us make any, yeah right...I believe Major Devreau (sp) was the Co on wake Island...I will have to look it up as my rememberer seems to be fracking the hard drive at the moment...
Ok, overstayed my welcome here...

your frien and Wabec member, DOD

Beau, the antique business sounds like a good fit for you. I've got a sister, who lives in Tennessee, and an aunt here in Texas who are long time antique dealers. In fact my sister Kay is in Houston this week for the HADA show down at George Brown. She does that one twice a year and Roundtop twice a year in addition to multiple shows in Atlanta and other places. She just loves it.

Fran and I know Carolyn Thompson's mall and have several favorite pieces that we purchased there through the years.

How about the names Diane-tiques, or Beau-tiques or Diane's Beautique as plays on words?

id like to comment on something beau pointed out about amiability in the political discourse;as he mentioned the mutual association with john enloe.the traditional relationship between our political parties has been one as advisarial with some anomoly mostly manifested in personal anamosity, such as that between burr and hamilton;ending with a pistol duel and the death of hamilton.aron burr was a rouge associated with conspiricy not only in his attempt to invade mexico on his own but was connected to what could have turned out to be a military coup of the jefferson presidency.when i use the term 'progressive' in an opinion,i speak of the sublimated form as identified by its progenators;social elites of the 1850-1933 era who were more associated with the willheim institute and the national socialists, who carried out the ugenics studies to rid the world of the inferior;translating to include what to them was inferior races and criminal classes.people of a profile that included idiots, homosexuals, jews, gypsies and with the passing of the nuremburg laws, anyone who resisted the nazi regieme.it all became legal;mass murder and in the case of the jews, pure genocide.methods practiced by hitler and himmler were post bolshevic atrocities and were practiced by stalin, mao tse tung and pol pot.the complete adulteration of the annocuous term"progressive" was accomplished by using the term in a literal sence for public consumtion while keeping the operative meaning within a small group who considered 'progress' as the systimatic elimination of all who they considered weak or inferior.the building of a master race who would rule by force and attrition, precipitating the thousand year 'new world order'.the more modern manifestation of this goal is  propagated by technocrats who champion the reduction of the earth's population.rationale was laid out in studies such as "global 2000"and other opinions about overpopulation on an exponential scale.if taken at face value, overpopulation would cause a depletion of all resources of the earth;there was no faith that the earth could support this rise, now estimated at @7 billion people.so,to be blunt, how do the elite who manipulate the economy and fund all sorts of esoteric programs empliment a solution if not to provoke war and famine with all attendant contingencies.provoke and fund both siides of a conflict, arm indiscriminatly as in africa and turn one faction against another.

so,if anyone who reads this forum and is offended by my use of the term "progressive",it is not in reference to a modern and common use of that term.it can only be construed as a positive concept if viewed to a notion that it means progress.the word "progressive" is a catchy watchword.the men and women who began the progressive movement had logical and persuasive formulas to rid the earth of the infirm and non-productive.to them the ends justify the means.keeping the masses sedated and incrementally anesthesised through 'bread and circuses' which the media supplies and drug regimes from the school level to the administration of psyco-active and hypnotic drugs prescribed for anything from depression to insomnia. the micromanagement of our lives is the goal of the progressive movement;complete economic control, monitering all transaction and movement is a reality right now;by the use of credit cards and the gps capability of the smart phone or car.this is no'conspiricy theory';this is the world we live in right now.

we all want to believe that all of this technology is for our convieniance and benifit. we certainly enjoy it.its up to us that control of it remains within a civilized society, with ballance of powers such as we have enjoyed all through our lifetime, giving us the liberty not enjoyed in europe, asia, africa, the rest of the americas or anywhere on this earth.black, white, hispanic, asian, all enjoy liberty in only one country is this world.why are some determined to denigrate and tear it down?this is a question one must answer for oneself.

Hey Teddie, great plays on names...I will show them to DW and see if she wants to change the one we picked...It is of a no nevermind to me what name she likes, as long as she likes it...AUNTI QUES, I thought was a goodun, but i kind of like the ones you brought up! Can you change a DBA without the guvmint having a stroke??? Hmmm, come to think of it, maybe if they had a stroke, they would go away and leave us to heck alone...

"I have a cold timmy"...."does it hurt and have a temperature"???? "Why yes Timmy, it does. Now why dont you and Lassie go see if you can find grandpa and rescue him from the well. And if he isnt in the well, again, push him in and then rescue him"... I havent had a cold in a long time, or since the last time I had a cold. Generally I go from normal to dying in a nano second. But, it's spring, and I usually get pneumonia, or oldmonia, or at the very least a grand mal asthma attack...sure hope this goes away...been taking my vitamins and drinkin my orange juice and vino and coffee, and malt o meal and chipped beef on toast on a shingle...Mowed the yard today, er mowed the weeds...good thing I have two lawnmowers...tractor is broken, something simple though, fuel line....so I used the old standby walkbehind...now I bemember why I use a tractor...thats a lot O walkin...behind...

It's good to have TWO of everything, because when you start out to, say, Mow, and one mower is broken, then you nhave a backup...why not fix the broken mower???? well, it has been my experience that when I DO try to fix something, in order to do something else, I get sucked into the vortex of sequences, and never get to what I originally started out to do...then I become one of the seven dwarfs, GRUMPY, then I start cussin at whatever then offending inanimate object happens to be at that particular time...then I wind up smackin the object with my fist or foot, causing immense pain and more cuss words, then I fight the urge to throw whatever is the offending object, into the cement pond, then I get grumpier, because I know if I do chunk said object de offender in to the drink, then it's only gonna make things more worser...so, to avoid all that grumpiness and cussin, and possibly lose my place in Heavens line, it's just easier to use a back up and then when youre through, THEN, you can work on the primary whatever it is that is broken...and by then, I am too tired to get grumpy or throw anything anywhere, so it's nap time....YAAAAAAA!!!!

Oh god, I need some chocolate merangue pie, I need it bad...nary a CM pie in sight...shucky darn, aint NO pie in sight...speaking of which, K rogers had some Banquet pot pies for 50 cents...bought a couple of em, and they are still as good as ever. One of the few things that has not gone up times 10, just times 5...Hey Teddie, didnt we sell those at Mangum Super Valu for 10 cents???? Seems I recollect as such...

Ok, time to sing off...me and Cooper got to go try to make a difference in this whirld, even if it's only a finite one...I have noted, that the boys that read to cooper, cant read!!! They use their finger to read, and then stumble almost on everyother word...and the words are, A , IS, big words like that...the girls on the other hand or good readers, and dont require pictures in their books...Wonder what the difference is...and, those boys that can read somewhat, havent a clue what they are reading...they require pictures...but regardless of skill level, they ALL ARE EXTREMELY SHY AND SO QUIET , I have to turn my hearing aids up..

The lovely DW and I will start moving antique/junk into our booth tomorrow...gonna be a grand opening next weekend...so, bring money...we take the three different kinds of payment, CASH, CASH, AND MORE CASH...

our prices will be low, and negotiable...not trying to start an antique empire, just get rid of stuff collected over the past two milleniums...
your frien and brother-in-class DOD, the junk man...

Fran and I had the pleasure of attending a musical down at the Hobby Center with some friends last night, "Million Dollar Quartet". This play was written about the true story of the one and only time, back in 1956, that Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley were all four together, in a recording studio at tiny Sun Records in Memphis.

That get together was organized and recorded by Sam Phillips, the owner of Sun Records who discovered all four of those legends back in the infancy of Rock and Roll, or Rockabilly as it was first called. Phillips also later discovered and signed Roy Orbison and a few others. The play is a fast moving musical tribute to all four and I would highly recommend it. The music was non stop and awesome.

They played many of the classic songs that we still hear, but also ones like, See You Later Alligator, Long Tall Sally, and Blue Suede Shoes, and several others that I'd almost forgotten.  All in all it was a toe tapping stroll down memory lane.

Just one more reminder of how lucky we all are to have grown up during the 50's and 60's.

Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire!

Well, here it is Sunday morning, and guess who cant sleep??? ME, now there's a real surprise, right!
Remember that cold I was tellin you about? Well, it has now developed into a grand mal asthma attack. I have coughed so hard, my ribs are bruised, and that hurts too also...Now I'm junked up on albuterol and lufalillian or however in the heck you spell that, oh and also prednesone, and asprin and tylenol, and hydrocodon cough med and riccola and halls and God only knows what all...(I keep telling my beloved that chocolate merangue pye is the cure. Somehow, I dont think she believes me) ...I am racing around the house like a maniac thanks to the meds...but at least I can breathe...but you know, it can always be worse, and in fact, compared to others going through health problems, mine is minor...still praying for Lindsey Apostolo...and others...wouldnt that be great if our prayers really helped...lets hope that they do...

We opened today at the antique mall...well, almost kinda sorta...got a lot of junk er antiques finally tagged and set up...got lots more to go...I guess we can shuter down now, cause I made a sale...yup, our first sale was 5 dollars...the item was really 35 dollars, and me being the haglin horse trader that I am, I got em down to 5 bucks..HA, yeah, thats what I'm talkin about....hmmmm. Well, I felt sory for the lady, she was telling me about the problems she was having with her swimming pool...I know that feeling...

It's kinda sorta fun having a booth of stuff...cept I kind of get insulted when folks just walk on by, and dont even stop and look at our great stuff...any of youse youtes got nothing to do and kant nap, just come on down...I buy you a cup O Joe...take you on a tour of our 10 X 10 booth...100 square feet sounds like a lot, but it really isnt, especially if you fill it up with stuff/junk...we have had to walk around to see if anyone else has the same junk as we do, so we can price it...the guy next to us, says our junk is priced too low...well duh, I dont want to open up a museum, I want to sell this crap, er uh antiques...Some of the dealers, hell, some, all of em seem to have things priced so high, they really dont want to sell it...NOT MOI...but, it's fun...plus, I already made 5 dollars...the lady payed me with 3 crinkled up one dollar bills, and a 2 dollar bill. Musta dropped em in the pool....I used my "counterfit checkin pen" just to make sure she wasnt pullin a fast one on me...

Ok, I'm crashin...still breathing, kind of like breathin through a pinched straw, but breathing...
Hey Teddie, I saw the add for that Play, and even saw a "trailer" for it...you are so right bout that music. the best. I'm like you, I think the 50's were the best to grow up in, at least for us anyway...

Time to "lay me down to sleep" I hope...This medicine just runs my brain through so many different phases, or moods or shifts...I get lonesome, even with folks around, then I get irritable, and paranoid and schizophrenic, then up then down...just runs me through the ringer of emotions...finally when it wears off, It's hard to imagine all the emotions and mood swings that have transpired...Oh well, at least I know it isnt me, just the meds...Looking forward to seeing yall next 2nd tuesday at fudds...

Your frien and brother-in-class...Dr Jekyl, or is it Mr Hyde...hmmmm

Anyone out there know about taking care of peacocks? Maybe there is a niche market for boarding peacocks? Eggs are supposed to be good,,,fried peacock for Sunday dinner?  Oops I guess the owner wants their birds back when they return,,,wait ...what if they don't come back?? maybe they just want to get rid of those big birds. I'd better think this out again.

A 66 year old Monkee died, RIP Davey I think the Sun record guys were better. I like to sing in my best Elvis voice "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You"

Started a new Neil Stephenson novel,"Reamde" It is about 1000 pages. i will probably finish around next Christmas. I read a few pages  each day.

There is a neighborhood out on the west side of Houston, south of Memorial Drive, and years ago some residents brought in a few peacocks and turned them loose. They have multipled through the years and now many of the residents hate them, and others continue to feed and support them being there, and it has become a big controversy. The big birds make quite a bit of racket at night when they are on the roost. And they sometimes roost on the rooftops of houses and cause damage to those roofs with their claws and of course do the other thing that birds do as well.

Vargo's restaurant out that way has maintained a population of peacocks on their property for years, and the males are just beautiful when they fan out and strut during the mating season.

I don't know what the eggs taste like but I'll bet you a dollar that the meat tastes like tough chicken!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Lloyd, NBC knows what to do with a peacock...stuff it and paste it on our TV screen...Peacocks are, kinda loud and spooky...and beautiful all in one fell swoop...Teddie mentioned Vargos, and as luck would have it, I was installing a DATA line there. Vargos is also right across the street from SUNSET central Office, which is 781 exchange...had trouble finding a good "pair" (two wires that make up one phone line, called TIP and RING. One wire has battery and the other as ground, or a potential for both) anyway, here I am right across from the serving office, and cant find any good "pairs"..what a bunch of nincompoop engineers Ma Bell had, but thats another story...anyway, had my tool belt on, with about a hundred pounds of tools, or half a tool dept full, and started walking around Vargos' grounds...

They have an outside wall around the front of the restaurant, and big double door opening to walk through to get to the restaurant...as I was walking through the opening, one of those peacocks let out a SCREAM, and they do scream, I wasnt ready for it, I jumped about 11 feet off the ground, whirled around, thus slinging my tools all over the parking lot and the next county...took about 10 years off my life, thats how I got this old...Man, that ol boy could SCREAM...as I was collecting my tools, found one screwdriver that was covered in peacock...er stuff...that ol boy wasnt content with scaring the beejeebers out of me, he had to relieve himself on my favorite screwdriver...bet you didnt know a man could have a favorite screwdriver didja! ! ! It was broken in just right too...I looked at that screwdriver on the asphalt, covered in peacock leavings, NAH, I'm leavin that bad boy, besides, I had a backup screwdriver anyway...

Anyway, thats the extent of my knowledge about  pesky peacocks...I did get that data circuit in, with no more runins with peacocks, other than the ocasional SCREAM...but I was ready for em, sorta of. That SCREAM can be unnerving when youre not ready for it, and even when you are ready...which is never, because you never know when one of em is gonna SCREAM.

You remember the 5 dollars I made on a 35 dollar item at ye olde antiquey emporium??? Well, I lost it!!! yup, ol goober here, not only lost that, but I lost 8 dollars worth of stickers and 4 dollars worth of tags...that's not a good way to start up a bidness now is it!!! So, lets review shall we...minus the 35 dollars I didnt get for said item, plus the item itself,  minus now the 5 dollars from my shrewd bargaining, and the 12 dollars for incidentals, oh and rental of our precious 100 square feet, all the permits and startup fees and gas and wear and tear on the vehicles, assorted odd lunches, and other incidentals, comes to a grand total of...hmmm lessee, 2 million dollars and 85 cents...at that rate, wont take us long to get our assigned parking in the poor house...

Oh well, IT IS SO MUCH FUN, as the little toe says, WEEEEEEEEEEE...Oh, and the 9 year old kid in the next booth, tells us that our stuff is priced too low...mind you own beeswax you little brat or I'll sic a big yellow dog on you...yeah, like thats gonna happen...Cooper would lick him to death for sure...

Just saw a show on DOOMSDAY PREPPERS...any of youse youtes PREPPERS???? I thought I was doing ok with the small amount of stuff I have stockpiled...NOT SO...my stuff doesnt even amount to filling up a thimble compared to others...some of em have food and water stockpiled for up to 15 years, and "bugout" plans, and they even have "bugout" drills...one guy has 11,000 variety of heirloom seeds stockpiled...biospheres and hh o machines...two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen, which is of course h20...they can generate power with it and other things...one guy has a shelter at the 11,500 ft level in the colorado mountains...completely selfcontained bomb type shelter...they ALL are expecting a catastrophic pole shift...if that happens, it wont matter how well you are prepared, as much as how lucky you are to be in the right spot at the right time...

Went to the antique mall today...stuff just flying off the shelves...when I knock it over, that is. Kinda deserted and quiet today. Took ol mellow yellow with me. He is a conversation starter, and makes folks lower their defensive guard, unless they are afraid of dogs...generally ol cooper can disabuse them of their fears with one of his grins and nudging their hands with his big ol head...truly blessed we are...

I can see by the pacing kitty Lacy, it is time to turn in, or shut down, or otherwise be known as an object at rest...(my cat Lacy supervises my sleeping. she wants me to go to bed so she can curl up in the crook of my left arm) she is getting impatient, keeps head butting me..."OK OK, I'M GOING...

listening to "light my fire" by the 'doors' on the disk audio;almost the anthem of marines hunkered down at khe-san during the seige.i remember one of the kleb brothers(i think it was donnie) who just came back.he sacked out on the couch at my sister's house, slept for a week.the c-130 that took his squad out didnt even stop on the runway because of north vietnam artillary fire;they had to run behind it and throw thier gear and themselves onto the lowered ramp.kupec dropped in almost every day and we all tried to unwind as best as we could.it was good to see those guys from oak forest comming back alive.the klebs, kupec and marcie english went to emanuel lutheran before waltrip and were friends.keith lived across the street from me on cheshire and marcie lived down the street close to fran and linda webster.liz love lived next door and then the corrso's house, pat wilcox lived in the next house.i often wondered what happened to her brother don;he changed as all of us did.everyone who served in vietnam were changed by that experience.culture shock.post traumatic stress, agent orange, wounds that take us away one by one.coping became paramount, happiness a fleeting thing.how can it be that after 40+ years the remnants of all that confusion eludes understanding.capsulated in emotion-"light my fire".marble mountain/danang today.a viet cong stronghold responsible for the death of many marines

WHEW, glad they got the website fixed...I thought that instead of making it go wide, I made it go away...We have WIFI at the antique mall, that is if someone would give me the password...they told me that there was no password, "just turn er on and jump in"...Oh I beg to differ mon ami...My Atari/comodore 64 says to "enter the password or pass phrase", otherwise you aint gettin on...but they keep telling me no password needed...I MAY NOT KNOW WHAT I'M DOING, BUT MY COMPUTER DOES...

I never liked ANY song from that era, from the git go...in fact I never cared much for most of the songs that came after the beatles "made the scene"...they had a few good songs like "Yesterday" ...learned to play it a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...a lot of their songs were written in E-flat and B-flat, in my opinion, the two hardest keys to play in, so I guess them ol boys knew what they were doin...

When "Light my fire" and strawberry alarm clock, and knights in white satin showed up, I HATED them, and still do...I went deep Jazz to escape those horried tunes...there was and is something unholy, unclean about that "hippie" era music...I switched to guitarist Johnny Smith; saxaphonists Paul Desmond, and Gerry Mulligan; other jazz greats like Coltrane, that is until he went off the deep end...I bought his last album, "OM"... they should have put a G on the end of that...I still have it, and it is absolutely of no musical value at all...paid 10 whole dollars for it too...

Pianists George Shearing, Joe Bushkin, Errol Garner, (who wrote misty by the way)...Went through Pear Harbor a few times, and made the short journey to WAIKIKI beach and the International Market place, where there was a club called "The Mynah Bird", that was later changed to "Gaugains" , or vice versa...Anyway, on one of my sojourns, I sat down on a bench outside one of the windows of the club, and caught the listful and melodic style of Joe Buskin...LIVE...how lucky was that, I stayed there the rest of the evening taking in the sights and smells of the market place and the sound of his wonderful piano...

there was also one of the most exclusive restaurants in the whirld there in the market place, called Don The Beachcombers...in fact it was a "tree house restaurant" only two people could eat there at a time...I think it consisted of three structures in a huge tree...the kitchen and the dining room and one other, maybe two rooms...

Another club was the Lemon tree, that had a group called STARK NEKID AND THE CAR THEIVES, and they closed out every night with Jackie Wilsons "HIGHER AND HIGHER"...one of the greatest tunes, and really greatest voices of the century...he collapsed and died on stage in Kansas somewhere, if memory serves me correctly, although I dont know why it should start now...Another of the great voices was Tony Williams of the Platters...he was their first lead singer...when Tony passed on, the Platters had another lead singer, almost as good, but I could tell the difference...Tony could hit the high notes like an opera singer, without switching to falsetto like say the lead singer of the Diamonds, or The Four Seasons, or the BEE Gees...who were all good, but still...

Oh well, guess it's close to feeding time at the zoo...already drained the coffee pot, time to make somemore...

Beau Wann, Jr.

Got some great news, a HOOTY HOOT OWL FAMILY IS IN the neighborhood. Heard em first last night, WHOOING. It didnt register at first that thats what it was. I just thought it was a weird sounding dove. That ol boy kept hootin at me, or his or her mate, and finally both of em rose up from the tree across from our driveway, and flew over the house. WOW, how lucky is that. Hope they got a junior on the way, or two.

And some other realyy great news, our grandson Taylor was offered a full academic scholarship to Baylor ! ! !
I didnt think he was working hard enough, ie contacting the colleges, to ever get a scholarship to HCC let alone to Baylor. He has the good grades, obviously, and was doing a lot of extracurricular activities that colleges want, but I just didnt think he was doing enough...yeah and what do I know????    OL DOPEY ME...

He is waiting to hear from Texas A&M and Texas and others...I SAY, GO TO BAYLOR. that is as fine a school as there is. Everyone goes to UT or A&M, but BAYLOR...I've always likened them to "Ivy League of the south"..That is so cool that some college would want you enough to pay your way to attend. They tell me it costs 40K a year to go to a major school. Hmmm, lessee, 4 years times 40K, hmmmm 120K ??????
HCC didnt cost that much, and just look at what they, 300 bucks, and 25 years of schoolin turned out in me ! ! !

The above is not brag, cause I didnt do anything but be his Beaupa, and look where he is despite that...My beloved, on the other hand, did have a major role in his upbringing...I know that scholarships exist, and folks get em all the time, "the other folks" that is, athletes and the like, the ones you read about in the news paper, and see on the news...but having never  known anyone that got a scholarship before, I am just amazed that a school would want anyone that much to pay their way...any of youse youtes get a scholarship??? Anyone out there go to Baylor???? That is just too cool...

Paige Talley (Meek)

Hi ya'll from Aggieville. I know that most of you think that I dwell in LaLaLand, but  no or come to think about it, maybe that is what CS/Aggieville is about some of the time. Truly, I have missed seeing/reading/laughing etc the "Message Forum" (see official heading above). I took a little time this morning to catch up some. Still GREAT wisdom in your words... Love it and ya'll.

I have an excused absence, though, and I am sure I can find that note from my Mother. Oh, it's a bit crumpled and her hand writing is a little shakey... you say her handwriting looks alot just like mine... UT O, busted. (Did you ever try to get one past the teachers and/or your parents by producing "signed" excuses, report cards or permission slips ? I didn't either !!!

Anyway... February 1 my company hired a new President and Chief Executive Officer. I was immediately promoted to be his "Executive Assistant". WIth this additional title, I am now the EABGR.SLB (Executive Assistant Bookkeeper Girl Friday. Sometimes Lab Technician). If I didn't know I was so far behind, I 'd think I was 1st! Today I find that I have a few minutes to breathe easy and talk to you a little bit.

Life is still an adventure and the joy that Richard adds (oh and he takes me places, too) is awing. Beau is right... "Lucky Paige".  Mom is doing perhaps better than expected at a fiesty pushing 89 (wasn't it just back at 12 we were pushing our age up and now Mom is back at it). Big children and little ones are doing well. As I write this, no one is in the hospital or in jail. Pretty amazing !!!  I pray that this moment last.

Beau, can't wait to hear the Tales from the Mall as the antique antics begin. Do those folks actually know what they have signed up with ??? Do the critters get to go to the mall?

Hugs Paige

i guess i love all kinds of music;even polka music.my greatuncle thurston was at sea for 40 years and at one time the captain of the largest tanker in the world;he said he liked to tune in mexican music because it soothed him,its always upbeat.i was deep into jaz and it took a while to appreiciate pop music.i grew up with music as diverse as glen miller and bing crosby to opera and elvis and hank williams."music soothes the savage beast". but then again "beat music" was not my favorite.you had to have a key to get in.

Beau, you and your whole family can be so proud of that grandson.  We have 4 nieces who graduated from Baylor and not only did they get a great education from a top-notch school, they all met their husbands while there:  one married a doctor, one married a dentist, one married a lawyer and one married a divinity student.  Now, if your grandson plays his cards right (oh, I forgot, Baptists aren't supposed to play cards, but we do anyway), he might meet and marry a doctor, etc.  We also have nieces and nephews who graduated from TAMU and UT and they've all done well, too.  Tell your grandson CONGRATULATIONS from all your "old geezer" friends.

Beau, I second what Jimmie Lee said, that is quite an honor for Taylor and also for his parents and you and Diane and everyone else that played a role in his life. Baylor is a great school with a lot of tradition. I know a number of successful people who graduated from there. And like you said with today's costs a full scholarship is worth a bunch of geetus.

And Burge I'm with you, I like some of a lot of different types of music. Probably the one I listen to the most is classic country, but I enjoy certain selections from all types. One of the best sources of good music I know of is the golden oldies that  Jackie has selected for the different parts of this website. I love it all and sometimes will minimize the site while I work on something else just so I can contniue to listen to that solid gold.

Hey thanks all...I think that was probably one of the things that might have swayed the scholarship committee, is the fact that Taylor was involved in a Baptist church "Young Life" mentoring program. My beloved says Taylor hasnt declared a major yet, but whatever it is, he will excell to be sure...

Jimmie lee, I'll bet when yall all get together, it is fun talking about alma maters...wow, that many went to Baylor eh!!!  How proud your family  must be! ! ! ! It's still sort of foreign to me, someone in the family or a friend, getting a freebie...well, he did work hard for it in HS, but still, to know your college is taken care of without a hardship on you, or someone else...that is so cool...How naive I am sometimes...and at my age...21...I hope he meets a doctor there, a good geriatric doctor, or an orthopedic surgeon...one with some good drugs...or a future CEO of a pharmacy or drug company, or an owner of a liquor store...

Burge, I love Glenn Miller, and my favorite of his is Moonlight Seranade...I remember down on DuBarry late at night, you could hear that tune wafting through the neighborhood on someones radio, lilting on a cool night summer breeze amidst the chirping crickets, an old hooty owl asking "who goes there"  and distant bark of a dog protecting their turf and the hum of an old metal fan. To me, having the back porch for a bedroom was like sleeping in a castle. Sleep came pretty easy for me way back then. Hmmm, that was 60 years ago, or little more than half a century, or whichever comes first...not very long, if you say it real fast...

I also like the old country music, the real country stuff; Ferlin Husky, Jim Reeves, Red Sovine and others I seem to have trouble conjuring up those names. Well, dont want to leave out Hank Williams. My love of music runs the spectrum, Beethoven to Wagner, Alabama to Faron Young, Edger Winters' "Frankenstein"...Hard Metal rock, blues, Nancy Wilson etc...I think that there is one thing we all can agree on, MUSIC, whichever kind you like, is wonderful...

Hey Paige, Richard is pretty lucky too..and congrats on your promotion...BIG HUMONGOUS raise goes with that I'm sure...right??? Right!!!! Well, if you need references...for goodness sakes, dont tell em about me...Oh, and speaking of Cooper, Paige, I get to take Cooper to the Aunti Que Mall..In fact I already have numerous times..why does everyone wear black??? When they walk away, after petting cooper,  they take quite a bit of him with them...

Me and Cooper just back from Lee Elem...Cooper has such a grand time greeting folks...if only people were like Cooper...nary a war would be fought, nary a discouraging word, "and the skys are not cloudy all day"...
Dang, it's 5:35...havent heard from my Beloved yet...hope she is on the way home...getting close to feeding time at the zoo also...critters are surprisingly quiet and still for this time of day...Nary a one of em is stomping on me, or rubbing up against me, or yawning making noise (jack does that), no meowing...hmmmm, am I in the right house???

Cooper and I get a couple a weeks with no school...as much as I like helping youngsters, I'm kinda glad for the break...any of youse youtes gonna do something special for spring break??? Caulk and paint the house for instance???  Yeah, me too...

Saturday is Grand opening for Aunti Que Mall, so come on down, and I will sell you something useful and valuable...suppose to be raining cats and dogs, so pick a couple of em up and take em home with you...

Had my first encounter  with a Prepper Sunday very strange  for me but if they are happy then I guess it is OK. I have my own peculiariyies... I am stockpiling music instruments violins, mandolin, guitars, banjos. Can't play them all but its fun to try. Today I saw an old upright piano out on the curb, in the rain. Man I would like to drag that home I could put it out on the back porch or disassemble it for the wood, or  hang the keyboard on the wall..like art you know?  Usually when I get out the fiddle aqnd start scratching, people run away screaming so I guess that sort of like a self defense weapon. Saw a PBS show about an Amazom explorer who made piec withthe local Indians by playing his accordian. I guess he was lucky their first volley of arrows missed
