Robert, I wouldnt worry about those PETA people, as long as you gave ol artie a fair trial and then hung him...kinda like Judge Roy Beans justice...saaaaaaay, you arent  by any chance related to, THA JUDGE are you????? Well, your name does have some of the same letters...OL JUDGE ROBBERT DERRICK...JUDGE ROY BEAN...see??? how close is that...wow...well your honor, we got pesky armydillas at our place...well, we got a couple a mules/donkeys at our place, should the dillas get rowdy and go rogue...speakin of which, them ol boys, the donkeys, paid us a visit this past weekend...well heck, they almost live at our place, and one o em talked to me whilst they were there...the large white-ish donkey/mule talked, said he was the spokesdonkey for the group...I asked him what they were doing at my place all the time, to which he replied, "eating grass ya nincompoop...couldnt you tell??? and ah thought YOU HUMANS were so smart"...wow, a smart aleck donkey/mule...just what I needed!!!!!!!!!!!

He then asked me why I didnt water the south pasture, to which I replied, that it was 6 acres and water costs too much now days and besides they werent suppose to be there eating my grass anyhow...boy, if theres anything I hate, is a smartaleck pushy donkey/mule...

OH HEY, found my first "shed" (deer antler shed naturally) on my place...well, actually Cooper found it, and was prancin around with it, till Jack took it away from him, then Jack was prancin around with it, till Diane took it away from him, and, no, Diane wasnt prancin around with it, but I took it away from her, and gave it back to Cooper, to which Jack took it away from Cooper and Diane took it away from Jack, and I took it away from Diane and hid it...whew, that was exhausting...it was just 4 points, and only one side, so it woulda been an 8 pointer if it were typical...but man it was sooooo small...wouldnt have been outside the ears...so not a harvester, yet...

WELL, the whirld didnt end...how weird is that...and I mowed the yard and did all the washing and the dishes, scooped doggie poop, cleand litter boxes, and cleaned the pool etc etc...and for what...well, anyone thats read the bible knows that Jesus said that "no one knows the exact time..." or words to that affect...
So, why does this bozo, Camp,  think HE KNOWS???? Seems he has predicted this before, 1994 or there a bouts...the Mayans last calendar ends Dec 21, 2012, as does the Hopi indians calendar...folks say that means the end of the whirld...actually it seems that it is just the last calendar for a "cycle"...some say, it is the exact date that ALL THE PLANETS AND MOONS, and the milky way galaxy will be aligned and whatever else...and POOF...WE BE HISTORY...

I say, for all the hundreds of millions of people that have died due to war, disease, accidents etc, the whirld HAS COME TO AN END...at least here...soooooo, the thing to do, is to prepare for the worst, but hope for the best...treat everyday as if it were your last....sometimes not an easy thing to do...

Which got me to thinking about some of the friends I have lost to death...well, one in particular...she was something special...math whiz, Great Teacher, even better principal...all her students loved her, as did I...as did everyone it seemed...taught me a lot about life and people and math... lived life large and good, had a smile that would light of a room...non smoker, got lung cancer, called me, ask me to pray for her, I did, didnt do any good...died  within 6 months after discovery, July 1998, just 4 months shy of her 50th...my first thought was, "what a waste" she had so much to give and live...maybe she already lived it and gave it...she really made a difference in this whirld...

couldnt stop thinking about her last night, in fact, couldnt seem to shut my brain down, what there is of it I suppose...had to take a pain killer for my back, and instead of letting me go to sleep, it just makes me sleepy and makes my brain race...seems I'm not 20 anymore, but still 10 foot tall and bullet proof...and old...so, I stay awake most nights, and talk to donkey/mules in the country...you kids out there, STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS!!!!!

Had our ususal 31 suspects at the little country church in the city, today...also had a "covered dish" lunch after services...why do they call it a "covered dish"???? None of them were covered when we partook...I uncovered ours in the truck, and took it in uncovered, just to see what would happen...no one said a thing about it either... apparently not a whirld ending fox paw, bringing an uncovered dish to a covered dish luncheon...well, another myth dispelled...
YOU PEOPLE shoulda been there...had two, countem, TWO pies from FLYING SAUCER PIE COMPANY, one peach and one apple...and a chocolate marangue pie from Ashland house...

Six cups of coffee and three pieces of pie later...oooooooh, "I cant believe I ate the whole thing"...did I mention I love coffee and pie????
Think I will sign off for now...keep the sun at your six and ride boldly ride...oh, be nice to yourself, and have a piece of pie and cup O joe...
Your frien and brother...me

My insomnia is doing it job! Of course, I did go to bed early. Cudddled up to an tce pack for back ache. Got up early to do some work in the attic, fixed some French Toast for breakfast, got a church report from Ferrell .. (good sermon- no rock and roll), went to our other unsold house did some maintenance things, took a second bath, then out to a beautiful church overlooking the lake for our end of the semester guitar concert.Sounded good only a few tiny mistakes on my part. Finished the evening with a little more attic insulation work, then third bath of the day, Cherrioes and bananas and then hit the sack!

I am sure I read in the Bible somewhere that no one knows the day of Jesus return. I am not even close to be a Bible scholar.. so it amazes me that folks who read a lot more than I do get swept away with these predictions. I guess its like tryin to predict when you may die... just can't do it. Sure we will all face it, but all we can do is just live each day the best we can. the Shakers were sure that they were the last generation and yet they built wonderful houses and furniture that will last many more generations. I think their philosophy was good in that respect. I wonder if they would "shake" to rock and roll these days?

Wached "Unforgiven" Saturday night. I like the line when William Munney tells the cut up whore,

"No, you are not ugly, like me. Its just that we both have scars"

I guess we can all relate to that at our age..but, I hope we, unlike, William Munney, have accepted God's grace and are forgiven.

Lloyd, does ice work more better on your back than heat???? Guess I will have to try the ice pack mine ownself...so far, not much works on ye olde back...well, if the rice socks get too hot, then the burn chimes in with the back hurt, then before long, youre singing the blues...I allus thought that two pains would cancel each other out...SO NOT TRUE...the little white pill kinda sorta woiks, sorta, kinda...what it mostly does is keep me awake and thinking bout stuff and still hurting...so I dont often take PKs...what I have to do is plug my mp3 player in my ears and listen to hard rock just to shut my brain down...I guess it's hard rock, Journey, Joe Satriani, Survivor, etc... maybe even some Coltrane, Mel Brown, Roy Clark (ol lightning fingers) Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan, Cannonball Adderly, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Byrd...dont know why I'm listing them here, just ramblin ma'am, just ramblin...

Been to that church that overlooks Lake Travis...has a big window wall so the congregation can look past the pastor and marvel at Gods presence and presents...Ok, Coopers last school day...so got to get ready...already gave he and Jack a bath got em smellin good...found a couple o pics for your enjoyment, well, actually for my enjoyment...

Ok, never mind...not gonna woik today...ok, now maybe it will work...

"now where's that CD I was listening to"..."ok, this is mine, all mine..."
Katie Peaches and Tucker in ascending order...not posed either...ya ever try to pose a cat???
not happening...

DOD, when I'm suffering from back problems like Lloyd is from doing stoop labor, cold packs really work like a champ. Why don't you get us a picture and post it on the web of your talking donkey. I'd like to meet him but I sure he'll only speak to you. You know of course that Leon Hale's mule only talks to him and not when other folks are around, Have you spotted your ducklings down at Cole Crick? Just wondering if they reunited with their family.

Is there anyone from our group that has not been heard from since around 6:00 on Saturday? I was just wondering 1 or more are missing and those of us that are posting on the website didn't make the cut. If that is the case there sure were a lot of us at church on Sunday!

Robert it might have been easier to live trap that 'dillo and transport him to Beau's estate. You wouldn't have had to clean your shotgun for three days! Beau is running a sanctuary at his place you know.

UH, NEGATORY ON THAT LIVE TRAPIN SANCTUARY CRAPPOLA...I WAS THINKING ABOUT TRANSPORTING, OH SAY, A MILLION DILLOS TO ROBERTS COMPOUND OR TO RICHARD LH'S COMPOUND...WHATTA YA SAY OL BUDDY OL PAL O MINE...FILLET OF DILLO ANYONE???? TOO BAD YOU CANT EAT EM, THEY DO CARRY LEPROSY HOWSOMEVER, NOT A REAL FUN DISEASE TO BE SURE...

Oh hey, Rich LH, I'm missing!!!!! does I count???? I stepped out to go find myself, so if I should return before I get back, tell me to wait...

just finished Coopers last session with his angels...Coopers Angels...sounds like a good TV show eh what??? They gave me and Coop goodbye cards....drew our pictures, and even put HAIR ON MY HEAD in the pics...and the Librarian and assistant gave coop a gift card to petco...WOW, and it is I that am honored to be allowed to help in such a small way...

I'll take a picture of ol (donkeys name here) the donkey/mule and post it...got a PGR funeral tomorrow, might go wed to the high country, or wait till Saturday...I allus like the little woman to go, she can fetch and tote a lot o supplies for me....although Saturday got a WOUNDED WARRIOR ride in Sugar land...

Nap time...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Rich LH, thanks for that piece of advice about trapping and delivering to Beau's wild life sanctuary because Kay just found some more diggin's in the yard. Like my daddy used to say, where you find one there is usually another.

Beau, nice to hear you mention Roy Clark and his pick'in and singing. I have several of his old recordings. Always loved him on "HEE HAW!" And Glen Campbell could really play the guitar and sing. Don't you think?

05/23/11 08:26 PM #3987

Teddie Jordan

Paige and Troy, we hope your mom's are continuing to recover and heal. Sounds like they are both from good tough pioneer stock. Keep up your good work and please keep us posted.

Back in the late 50's we had a great Mexican family that used to show up and pick cotton for us and all of our Grimes County neighbors in late summer every year, and I vividly remember that almost always when my dad and I pulled up in front of the house they stayed in, that there would be 4-6 armadillos field dressed and hanging on the clothesline, ready to be skinned and prepared for their dinner. I don't think I ever tried any, although I would have if they would have offered, but I always heard it was good white meat and was somewhere between pork and chicken. On the halfshell no less! That was before any mention of Leprosy, and rabies was the big threat from all wildlife at that time.

05/24/11 02:45 PM #3988

Richard Meek '65

Yep Robert I think it is a real humanitarian thing for Beau to do. Have an animal sanctuary and all. Particularly to take in armadillos. Not may people would open their estate to such homely creatures. But after all they're one of God's creatures too. And you don't have to clean your shotgun, Beau doesn't have to come roaring up Derrick Road with guns blazing. It works out well for all. Particularly the armadillos.

Keep on dancing,

Ah think ah have enuff ammo to take out all the dillos around...ol Cat Jack runs em by me and ah blast away with whichever howitzer ah happen to be cleanin...Hey...????? I was being "dog whisperer", and trying to train ol Cat Jack to come back to me oncet ah turned him loose on the countryside...he gets a might hard headed, and obstinate about wanting to return to his lord and master, Diane...So, bemembering my introduction to good ol PAVLOV, thought ahd try my hand at a little pavlovian training...got out my oscar mayers, and coaches whistle, and sat the boys down in front of me...it's amazing what I can get them ol boys to do for a couple o oscar mayers...I blow the whistle, and then give them both a chunk o OM...blow the whistle, OM, repeat numerous times for about 30 mins...thought I had them ol boys trained...Cooper is not a problem, he sticks to my side like glue, but ol Cat Jack has a mind of his own...

Turned em loose, and whoosh, ol cat jack is gone with the wind...I mean, he ran down the ranch road and ran through the meadows and woods like he was...well, ol cat jack...runnin amok, so I said, Ha, I'll just whistle for that ol boy, and he'll come a runnin....so I whistle, and ol cooper is leaning against my leg, but no cat jack...WHISTLE AGAIN...coop pushin on my leg, no cat jack...WHISTLE WHISTLE WHISTLE WHISTLE, till my ear drums were busted, Diane was giving me dirty looks to stop, and coop was leanin so hard on my leg, it was about to break...still no cat jack...and all that trainin too...so me and my little group, DW and Coop, start out walking to where we last saw CJ...me a whistlin and Diane a callin and Coop bangin into my leg wanting me to break out the Oscar Mayers...so I open the container, and guess who showed up, from behind us, yup, Ol Cat Jack...which goes to show that once again science has been put asunder by real life...Ol Catahoula Jack is no "PAVLOVS DOG", but Oscar Mayers...

I slapped the handcuffs on CJ and back to camp we went...

Rode today with PGR at the HNC to bury another ol soldier...somber and sad...

I noticed that ol boy Camping, that said the rupture was gonna happen last Saturday, now says he made a mistake, and it will be October 21...What? his slide rule was off????
I say, and I'm gonna go out on a limb here, that the end of the whirld is gonna be...whenever it's gonna be...and not a day sooner or later....

Oh wow, the little woman snuck up on me, got to go rustle up some grub...
happy dillos to youse...
DOD
here's a pic of My GD Haley workin out with my CAR

 Morning' Ya'll

All is kind of "well" in CS. Mom is healing and her PT is going great. She has been riding the stationary bicycle.  She never rode a regular bicycle so this is really something. The dementia is a pandora's box. One never knows what will pop out of her head. Since the nut doesn't fall far from the tree, it is only fitting that I am either demented or just a wild and crazy girl. I going for the latter... now what are these dangles on the circle - Oh, KEYS (wonder what they are for).

Graduation is upon us. Kindergarten to 1st grade (a biggy) and 4th grade to Middle School are the big ones this year. Next year will be seniors graduating. My how time is full of wonderful events!!!

Keep the forum tales comin' ...

Hugs

Paige

Hi all,  thought I best check in.....since the end o the world went awry.  I'm with yall, couldn't imagine someone's ego, thinking a mere mortal could predict this....and how many different places in the Bible verify that it will happen without notice!  The way the weather and its effects are happening, I'm beginning to think it could be close.  Our brains will all be fried  by then from not using them and letting the internet do our thinking, anyway, beside other things happening in our world.

Burn ban is still in effect, although I received 2" at my place in Grimes.  It is turning green out here and the farmers and ranchers got some much needed rain, else all would be lost, still may be if rain doesn't continue.  We have already lost two hay seasons, can't make those up. Friend and I went turtle shooting in his pond the other day, had a lot of fun, blowing them up.  Pigs, armadillos are fair game as well.

Well, this is the last full day of school for Richards ISD. today....yea!  I attended a sweet little dedication for Michael yesterday at Anderson-Shiro ISD. A crepe myrtle tree was dedicated to Michael with a plague and hundreds of balloons released.  All grades of children sang, prayers, it was a happy time and hopeful release for all.  Todd and Cheli attended, still emotionally and physically tough for them and me.  But we are all truly getting ahead, working and going on with life, and I for one looking forward to a wonderful summer ahead!

Paige, I feel your pain, as my mom endured this, it does have it's funny and loving moments though.  Enjoying reading everyone's comments!  Beau, funny as ever, Burge, ever deep thinking, after all, someone has too!, Rich, Robert, Ted, Llloyd and Jimmy.....entertaining and good comments as always.

Morning Waltripians, another gorgeous day outside even if it is shy of rain. Have you ever thought about how much conversation and Email would be eliminated if we didn't talk about the weather?

DOD, it sounds like to me that CJ is just ignoring the whistle. He is tuned in to the crinkling of cellophane because he knows that is when the OMs are coming out. Liz is that way. She can be out in the yard chasing squirrels and I open something in the kitchen and she'll come bounding in with that look on her face "what's to eat". All interest in the squirrel is gone.

Kay good to have you back on the forum. This drought is beginning to take on the proportions of the one of the fifties. If memory serves me that on didn't break until 1957. All we've been experiencing in Houston is high humidity with virtually no rain since February. I've been advised that high humidity is good for my complexion! Whew what a relief, it's good for something! Glad to know that also because like most guys I fret continually about my complexion! I would guess you are glad that you didn't get to stocking your place with any cattle. It is definitely hard for ranchers and farmers now.

Keep on dancing

Beau Wann, Jr.

goot eefenink mine fine waltripines,

Hey Rich LH, why yes, we all worry about our complexion...as you recall from our Mary Kay sales meeting at the WABEC meeting...moisturizer moisturizer moisturizer...cant get enough...

I checked the ol 8 BALL about the ending of the whirld, and when it would take place, and it said "try again later"...so I tried again later and it said "it is decidedly so"...I'll bet I got one of those 8 BALLs from Sears and elsewhere, every Christmas till last year...Thats what I want this year also...I'll need a new one, to ask it where I put all the other 8 Balls...

Thought I'd check the Ouiji Board, and conjured up Abbott and Costello..."whens the whirld gonna end" says I..."whos on first" says it...

I'll bet thats what that ol boy Camping is consulting, the Ouiji board and 8 Ball...prolly just as accurate as trying to cypher the books of the Bible...meaning, good luck on that endeavor...
Why would anyone, any sane person, want to know anyway???? If it happens, it happens..Not much you can do about it, cept prayin and singin the blues...then what???

Laid another Marine to rest today, only 26...two tours of Iraq...no cause of death was mentioned, so I dont think it was combat related...another Navy man tomorrow...

OK, this is just wrong...CANT FIND ANY REAL GRITS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOTHING BUT STINKIN INSTANT GRITS !!!!!!!!!!!! AND NO SELF RESPECTIN SOUTHERNER USES INSTANT GRITS !!!!!!!
AND, I AM ALMOST OUT !!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Checked Kroger again, and HEB and Foodland...gonna check at a Brookshire brothers tomorrow...So, thats what I am gonna tell my family to get me for my Birthday this year, REAL 20 minute GRITS AND AN 8 BALL...Shucky darn, if I had an 8 Ball now, I could probbbbbabbbly find some real grits...HEY!!! "Will I be able to find some real grits"????  "ask again later"...

Here it is almost midnight, and it is 82 gredees...I know, good for the complexion...summer is upon us and it aint even summer yet...rain on the radar...40 percent...yeah yeah yeah, and checks in the mail...
Boy, I'll tell you, Missouri and the middle of the country is catchin all kinds of hail...feel for those people...thats one of the reasons I never liked spring...storms come in and raise hail and tear things up and move on...looks like we were spared, and then some...kinda went overboard in the other di rection...kinda worries me about Ike season coming up...prepare for the worst, hope for the best...

Guess I'll sign off for now...just ramblin anyhoo...no body to talk to, Dianes asleep and so's all the critters...tried wakin up Coop and CJ, and they just moaned and stretched and went back to sleep...Big Oliver curled up in a tighter 22 pound ball, Annie-bob smacked me and all the others are hiding...maybe I'll call one O them 900 numbers...that ought to cheer me up...now where do you find a 900 number???? after the 800 numbers???? and just before the 1000 numbers????

"Hi good looking...this is Silky...what would you like to talk about???" says the voice on the phone..."uh Silky? That your real name? whats your last name?" Says I..."well for you sweety" she says, "my last name is Smooth"..."Nuh uh!!!" says I..."Really, Silky Smooth"??? uh, how about where youre located" says I..."Ooooh sweety, I cant tell you that" says the voice..."well then, how we gonna get together" says I..."ooooh, dont you want to talk dirty to me on the phone" says Mz Smooth..."well, sure" says I..."I got a stain on one of my good shirts, and was wonderin what I should use on it to get it out, plus my towels are kinda dingee. what do you recomend???? Bleach???? or a particular soap you use perhaps" says I...bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Hmmm, dialtone again...I dont think them ol girls know a dang thing about clean clothes or grits...wonder if the zoo is open this time O night...what am I saying, I live in the zoo...

Maybe I'll consult the ol OUIJI board...."OUIJI board, what should I do tonight" says I..."how about leavin me alone, turning off the light and go to sleep, for starters" says it...Man what a grouch...anything I hate, is a surly Ouiji board...

Good night John-boy...nite granpa...nite Mary Ellen...YOU BRATS GO TO SLEEP !!!!!!!!!!!

Fixed a meal last week with real grits. We decided that it was one of the cheaper dinners that we have made. Greens, sweet potatos, grits, and black eyed peas. We had enough for another nights meal as well. And, we thought that it was a tasty meal! However, we splurged withsome Blue bell Pecan and Praline Ice Cream for dessert, and blew the budget.

Hey Jim, them are some really good lookin fellers there...sorta look like some cousins in mah family album...soons I go up to the high country this weekend, I'll take a picture of them ol boys...they seem to multiply like rabbits...I think she started with 4 and now theres about 8 or more, possibly a dozzzzzen...

OK folks, this is getting serious...we have us a  genuine bonifidy crisis in the heartland, or the Lone Star State whichever comes first...NO TRUE GRITS...I aint lyin people...I jumped on my trusty steed Pegasus, and rode up to Hempstead, and checked out Krolczks and they didnt have any TRUE GRITS, she might be able to order em for me, but by the case...Next I checked Harlans Food Market down on Main street...this is a pretty big country supermarket, and with a name like HARLANS, yould think you could get just about any countryfied thing available, like DEVILED HAWK AIGS, PICKLED PIGS FEET, POSSUM INNARDS, COON JERKY ETC, YOU KNOW the usual fare that youre always looking for at Kroger, but cant find...NO TRUE GRITS...just instant...I guess no "self respectin southerner" shops at HARLANS, EH...

I asked the lady at the check out about TRUE GRITS, and she said she has some, AT HOME, and doesnt know where she got them from...what, you dont shop at the store you work in??????
So, off on my quest for the GOLDEN FLEECE...NEXT STOP, BELLVILLE...
Went to a dollar store, dont know why, all they had was one box of INSTANT GRITS...next stop BROOKSHIRE BROS ON 36...I would have bet even money that BB had TRUE GRITS...Ah woulda lost that bet...man, things are looking bleak here...Ah can tell, ahm gonna need counseling, and OPRAH has gone off the air...

AH AINT LICKED JUST YET, HOWSOMEVER...got a myriad and a plethora of small towns to check...if I have to, I'll ride all the way to ALA FREAKIN BAMA for TRUE GRITS...I know those folks got to be good "self respectin southerners"...
Check the internet, you say???? I did, with the "Quaker Oat" people, they also have grits...emailed em last night, I did...havent heard word one from em though, and in their selection of items, they do have a "standard grits" selection...I'm assuming that means TRUE GRITS...
Guess me and Pegasus will go to Navasota and Brenham tomorrow...I'd go to Anderson, but they have no general store, just a shell station with stuff...I know they wouldnt have TRUE GRITS...Roans Prairie???? just a cross roads...Iola??? prolly not...

Am I a TRUE GRIT addict???? a junkie???? How did I get to this point???? Is there  a TGA organization??? (TRUE GRITS ANONYMOUS) "Hi, I'm Beau, and I'm a Gritaholic"...wonder what the 12 steps are gonna be...have to apologize to all the pork and chickens I've eaten???? Is gritaholism a disease???? Oh well...hey, maybe I'll ask my 8 Ball..."ask again later"...

anyone want to have lunch tomorrow at Brenham or Navasota???? gonna be hot...well duh!!!

Say, has anyone ever seen an OZONE???? Saw one of the highway alert signs say, "watchout for ozones"...I looked, but never saw one, not that I'd know what I was looking for, but Look I did...why would they post something like that...you cant do anything about it anyway, let alone see one...IT WAS ALMOST 100 TODAY OFFICIALLY!!!! my thermometer said 110 at 6:30 pm, and that was in the shade, and I feel my equipment is probably more accurate, wouldnt you say!!!!!

Well ok, guess I'll mosey downstairs and head to the sleep chamber and toss and turn for awhile...need mah beauty rest and rest for my quest for the Holy Grail, Golden Fleece, TRUE GRITS...
Keep the sun at your six, and ride boldly ride...
your friend and certified TRUE GRITS NUT...Allen Badillion Trahern...esq...

i dont want"to put a frog in your pocket"but memorial day is coming up and im sure that a lot of you had family or friends killed in action.it is for these that we have a day to relax and honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice so we may enjoy the standard of living that benefits so many of us and so much of the world;even those still held in despotism and ignorance.

Hello all of you wonderful friends.  Long time no talk to!  Just finished a second round of injections in the old back. From reading the latest postings, I don't feel like I am alone.  Misery does love company.  Still working at dear old Rusk Primary School (finishing 28 wonderful years), but looking forward to a few weeks off.  I did get some great news a few weeks ago.  My son & his wife are expecting TWINS in October.  Since we have 5 grandsons we are thinking healthy first and PINK second.  Their son Jackson will be 3 in Nov.  Please help me pray for them. Thier lives are going to get much busier!  Love you all and so enjoyed catching up with all your postings.

Hope all have a great summer.

Jimmie Sue

DOD, you might give Whole Foods a try for true grits. Or try some health food store like A Moveable feast out on echo Lane and I-10.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe Memorial Day holiday. I'm headed to Caney Creek to enjoy the salubrious breezes off the Gulf. I might even fish a little or not. Good food, good company, good wine are definite.

Keep on dancing,

Rich LH

Well, Memorial Day Holiday is this weekend so everyone out on the highways, beware of the idiots. It seems like this particular holiday brings out the wild/drunk side of some.
Leon Hale’s 90th birthday party is being celebrated this weekend in Roundrock. You may need a (free) reservation for cake n’ice cream.
I’m headed up North for the summer trying to avoid the Texas heat. If anyone is in Minneapolis between now and Labor Day, drop me line and I will meet up or serve you a cold beer, take a boat ride and grill a brat or two!
Remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom. The only Waltrip school mate I know of is Johnny Greg, Leroy’s little brother.

GRITS???? NAH, AH HATE GRITS...
decided to do something productive today, instead of looking for furshlerginer true grits...such as vacuuming, dish washing, clothes washing, drying, folding, etc etc...did jump on Pegasus and go to Angies for lunch, and buy a new AMERICAN FLAG TO FLY...retired half dozen or more to the American Legion for the Boy Scouts to dispose of with honors...There is a Flag company down on Fannin, 4482 Fannin to be precise...Capitol Flag company...been here since 1954 or 56 methinks...

High Jimmie Sue....glad you joined in...good luck with twin girls...TWINS???? oh man, double trouble...we put your family on our prayer list...a young family down the street that grew up in our little country church in the city, have been trying for boys for X number of years...they have 4 girls...couple across the street had triplets a few years back, 2 boys and a girl....starting to walk now..."life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get", comes to mind...

Riding with the PGR, and standing vigilance at the services of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines, gives one a lot of time to reflect on just about everything that comes to mind...like the freedoms we enjoy, the cost of that freedom...I always walk among the headstones at the Houston National Cemetery at some point, generally after the services...cant recall any of the names, except my brother-in-law, Terry Heil who was with the 11th parachute brigade in WWII...His outfit liberated the largest POW camp in the Phillipines, Los Banos...and the liberation of Manila etc...said he couldnt kill enough japs...also served in Korea as bomb disposal ordinance officer...Dads cousin, Bob Bishof and his wife are buried at HNC...he was a marine in the pacific...
Plus all the warriors that we have laid to rest in the last 4 or 5 years, however long I've been riding with the PGR...does wear on you a mite...but the least any of us can do...too many gold star moms and dads...too many tears...

I contacted Quaker Oats company about who just might have some true grits...gave em my zip code, and they said that there were none within 50 miles...oh goody...then they proceeded to explain the logistics of "what the stores order, and blah blah blah...Nothing they can do...WELL, FOR STARTERS, YOU COULD SEND ME SOME TRUE GRITS, OR PROVIDE ME WITH THE ADDRESSES OF THOSE STORES THAT HAVE TRUE GRITS...oh well...I think it's a conspiracy...

Rich LH, catch some fish!!!! Or at least supply us with some FISH STORIES...like the one that got away...man, I have had some huge fish, the size of an aircraft carrier, that got away...generally faulty defective equipment...once caught Nessie, but leader broke...trapped bigfoot, but the latch broke on the trap, allowing him to get away...took pictures, but film was defective...

Saw a squadron of 6 Apache helicopters yesterday,  heading south down 290...oh man those babys were beautiful...I sure do need one of those bad boys...dont know how to fly one...yet...
but,,,Paige honey????? I know you're multi-engine rated, you reckon you could learn to fly one of those bad boys, and teach me???? Couldnt be all that hard...probably no harder than runnin a lawnmower or blender...

Ok, nap time...DOD

now the thoughts sink in,a peaceful, quiet day, american flags fly at homes.today i remembered the ones i knew as marines, killed in action.i hope all veterans on the forum find the peace of mind that comes with being thankfull ;"yea, there, but for the grace of god,go i".sometime in the future,i hope to fully understand but for now being thankful is a prayer for the guys that ran point for us and suffered death to call us forward.
