Well Jackie I'm sure your boss wouldn't mind if you just took the afternoon off to work on IMPORTANT Waltrip website. Don't you think so?

DOD, I neglected to mention that the article about Cur dogs came out of an article in the October issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine. This is something that Sir Theodore can relate to as well as yourself. The guy who wrote it said he had gotten very discouraged and had just about given up Quail hunting (the birds not Former V.P. Dan) because the hunting has gotten so poor the past few years. And you can't have a really good bird dog if they can't get enough bird work. Then he discovered squirrel hunting with dogs. He found out it was the hunting with a dog that enjoyed so much. it really didn't matter what they were hunting. If anyone wants a copy of that article let me know and I'll email it to you. The copy I picked up yesterday came from the Walgreen's at Ella & 43rd if you want the whole magazine.

Well my darling Liz is growing up. She is actually getting protective of our home. She has also developed a pretty good defensive sounding bark, not just puppy yapping. She still pulls her puppy stuff though. Yesterday I looked over my shoulder while I fixing dinner and there she was with her front paws on the counter, side stepping the length of it licking all the way. I must have the cleanest counter in Houston as often as I wash it down. Jeez! When I fuss at her she looks over at me and you can almost see her thinking, "he's far enough away. . I can finish licking before he gets here". The trial and tribulations of Doggy Dad!

Keep on dancing,

Rich LH

Sir Richard, glad Liz is keeping you on your toes. She's a love, that one...Quail hunting has been almost nonexistent for the last 10 or more years...FAR AINTS has just about made em extinct...well, not extinct, but scarce as hens teeth! Quail lay their eggs in ground nests, and it is easy pickens for predators, and especially FAR AINTS...They make quail "safe houses", which range from a hundred dollars to 2 or 300...I plan on getting some, and a covey or bevy or a plethora of quail and try to get em established on our place...also gonna reintroduce Turkey on our place, see what happens...also too, pheasant!!!!!  Got excellent habitat for all kinds of critters! Might get a couple of donkeys, maybe the grand canyon donkeys up for adoption. those bad boys will keep most predators away. Cept maybe a wolf pack, or bears, or lions and tigers, but I dont think we have anything to worry about from those bad boys and girls!!!!!!!

Got passed a picture of a 7 or 8 ft rattlesnake, that looked like an anaconda, it was so big! THe head on that bad boy, was as big as fist. They say, that they are not rattling because of the wild hog population! Hogs will eat snakes, so the rattler doesnt rattle so as not to draw attention to itself. Did you know why hogs can eat snakes with full immunity??? You cant poison a hog...and snake poison has no effect on a hog...why???? I have no idear, but next time I see one, I will ask him or her, whichever the case may be!!!!!

WEll, it is in the wee small hours of Thursday...going to work on the garage tomorrow, and maybe the deck...oh wait, got a bionic ear appt tomorrow...hmmmm....well, I will do something in the working around the house dept....anyone want to have lunch...anyone anyone????? No???? well, fine... I will just go hungry, that'll show you!!!!  During my ironworking days, I use to work with a guy everyone called "Frenchy"!  I guess it was because he was French...Duh, you think???? Well, he did have sort of an accent....anyway, he would get mad at his wife for being late to pick him up from work, he would say that he was going to punish her by not eating supper...yeah, thats what I thought too...why, he's just brutal, dont know how she could stand it...

Coughing my fool head off, so I'm up trying to not be up, but it's just not working out!!!
Maybe I'll take the boys on midnight patrol or something...how about a moonlight swim???? Lord, I hope not! Not even gonna get close to that "tar baby"...So anyone else out there reading this stuff, besides me and Rich???? Man, yall gotta sing out...tell us about stuff...I like to read about what everyone is doing, besides mine own self...Maybe everyone else has something more important to do, like work, and family etc...Yeah, I know...but try anyway, huh????

I dont really like to name names, or put on airs, but I know some movie stars/celebrities!!!
Lets see, I've met Charlie Daniels; Oliver North; Gunnery Sgt R Lee Ermey; Ted Nugent and his wife; got autographed books and pics of the aforementioned...also got my picture taken with two that I have not mentioned...want to see em????? Yes, I thought you would...

Yes sir, that is me with ol ET. He and I got to be pretty good friends...man can he put away the BBQ and beer...but gives him gas, which he says is a useful commodity where he comes from...

And this is Prince/aka Snowbell from Stuart Little I and 2...I'm on the right...Prince is a pretty good guy, but hits the catnip pretty hard sometimes...but who among us hasnt, eh hoser????

Ok, guess I will try to catch a few winks...
your friend and other brother...duke of dubarry...me

Morning Waltripians, another beautiful day in paradise is up and running. Hope you have a good one!

C Ephus, someone sent me that email about rattlers not rattling before they strike now because of wild hogs. Some of the BS people come up with is just amazing. When I was learning to hunt one of the things my dad taught me is keep your eyes open and always look where your walking because rattle snakes don't always rattle before they strike. We all know that was many sleeps ago don't we.

Liz wants me to let everyone know that she has a hurt paw. I'm not sure how she hurt it. No evident injury, just looks a mite swollen. She's limping around and when she stops she holds her right fore paw up. She was sure that a fresh biscuit would help it heal faster,,uh huh, right Liz! If she doesn't improve by in the morning I'll take her to the doggie sawbones to make sure she hasn't broken a bone in her foot. Anyway, now you know she is hurt.

Don't know if any of you are watching the baseball League Championships but they are playing some great baseball. i think the Giants and Phillies are playing tonight. the giants are up 3-1. the Rangers and Yankees crank back up Friday. Rangers are leading that series 3-2. Great viewing if you like baseball. You might have guessed, I do. Now your day is complete since you have those factoids.

DOD, two years ago I met the actor G. W. Bailey. Do you know his most famous role (in my opinion)?

Well back to the work a day endeavors.

Happy Days Are Here Again. We're going to convene the Waltrip Committee on Friday, October 29th at Five Guys Burgers and Fries at 11:30 AM . It is located on the SE corner of San Felipe and Post Oak Blvd. The purpose of this committee is to eat lunch and report back to the group our findings. All are welcome. the work will be enjoyable and not very time consuming. So far the august committee has only had men attending but any women who would like to attend are certainly welcome. Even though we have only had male attendees I don't remember any cursing or spitting on the floor or any rowdiness. However if you ladies would prefer some we would probably participate. So it will be good burgers, fries and conversation. Last time we solved a lot of the world's problems. However there are still plenty to resolve so come on out and join in. (even though we're meeting at Five Guys that is not who can attend, that is the name of the eating esablishment. in this day and time you have splain everthin Lucy)

Hey youse youtes!!!!

Sir Rich, sorry to hear about Liz's injury. I think the rule book of critters states that whenever there is an apparent injury, the size of the treat is comiserate to the scope of the injury, ie injured paw = dog lick roast, etc...
So, you really need to tend to that, before a union rep from the Dog Union, pays you a visit...Cant have that now, can we!!!!!

Been coughing so hard, my lungs are hurting so bad, I'm trying everything not to cough...cough med with codiene, 2 albuterol treatments on my nebulizer...man, this stuff is kicking my asaphidity bag...got a sawbones appt tomorrow at 10:30 am in the morning...I like redundancy, that way, there is no misunderstanding!!!

Had my bionic ears rechecked today, and they doing aces...Next, after my lungs, comes XRAY vision for my bionic eyes...NO TEDDY, I AM NOT HAVING MY EYES CUT ON, NO SIR...besides, someone at 2nd tuesdays said that they still had to wear reading glasses...since I already have to have reading glasses, I will just get corrective lenses.....

Hey, I found a vegetarian chili at Costco, called Tasty Bites Maderas Lentil soup...It really does taste most excellent, and it is also Kosher...Now, I hear you guys out there, "what the hell is the point of chili with no meat"!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hear you, I feel your pain, but there are some folks out there that dont eat meat, for whatever reason, and youse must respect that, ya hear!!!!!!!!!!!!
My sister has been a true vegetarian for about 150 years or more, she said she doesnt eat anything that has eyes, except potatoes...Not a bad policy I suppose...She is also a gourmet cook, and can make stuff you swear has meat in it, but does not!!!!

Also Costco has discontinued selling the Focacia bread I only got to buy 4 rounds of...aint that just like a dealer, get me hooked, and then stop me cold turkey???? I have sent in the "how we doin" survey a million times, and also got on the net...I'll teach them to mess with me and my cravings...that really was the bestest bread in the whirld, man, I wish yall alllllll could have tasted it with a little olive oil on it, or grapeseed oil...Now I have to go through couseling...Dr P hil...Okra wimfrey...

what the hell time iis it????? Midnight...gonna be a long night...lathered up with Vicks, and all kinds of stuff, not helping much...hope I dont have to go to the ER...glad there is one that I CAN go to though...

Cats strewn all over the library, looks like the SPCA exploded here...Mr wooly mammoth, Big Olie is curled up in my lap, with his large paws hooked on to my jeans...looks like I aint goin nowheres, no how...well, he isnt exactly curled up, kinda hangin over both ends...say, did youse see the longest domestic cat in the whirld today in the houston pravda chronicle?????
48 and a half inches...a main coon. I think I will measure Olie...hold on...Big Olie is 36 inches long, give or take...he got kind of pissed because I woke him up and was stretching his tail out and pulling his head...a yard of cat...thats a lot of cat...a yard of lard...Ok, he is biting me...

Ok, since only 4 of us get on here anymore, I do hope everyone else is ok...sing out, if youre hurting...we think good and positive thoughts for you...

coughing almost uncontrollably, so got to go...

Good morning to Houston and to the rest of the world,

the German-Polish Society asked me to help them publish an important meeting. Should be quite interesting especially for this houston chronicle since I was on the first page ( not Paige) about 46 years ago, which is just as important. Poland today is quite conservative, no danger of beeing branewosht (I mean cleaning this little bit behind our eyes of above), so you should be able to read this paper without prejudice.

Good morning Waltripians, I hope your day is going well. Looks like we're going to have another great day in paradise.

Bernd, mmmmm, I agree it looks interesting.

DOD, sorry you're having such a rough time. Hope the doc fixes you up this morning. I tried some vegetarian chili that's pretty good. As far as vegetarian chili goes I say why not? You don't always have meat in soup and I consider chili as thick soup. Variety is a good thing. Liz's paw seems to be much better this morning even without the benefits of dog licked roast or biscuits. I think she was making a statement last night though. She normally likes to pile up on the coach and watch baseball with me. Last night though she commandeered my favorite chair and spent most of the evening in it. On the subject of redundancy, I think we should stamp out and abolish redudndancy!

Be sure to put next Friday, the 29th on your calendar. Come to Five Guys Burgers and Fries, 11:30 AM on the SE corner of San Felipe and Post Oak Blvd. This will be a meeting of The Waltrip Club (Our equivalent of The Harvard and Yale Clubs). Enjoy good fellowship and good food. We'll probably solve some world problems also, time permitting.

Later dudes and dudettes.

Keep on dancing,

Rich LH

Hmmm   The memory banks are fading... Thought for sure I made a post Thursday about our travels and the wonders of modern medicine and Linda Warren Bedell, who just happens to be Ferrell's sister -in-law. In Espanol I learned "in-law" is politicos. Makes sense doesn't it? And what happens if there is a D.. I.. V.. O.. R.. C.. E? Are they still your in laws or do we become out laws? My sister Margies was married to a good ol boy from Goodrich, Texas. I always considered he was part of the family even after they divorced. He liked fast cars and besides that he could really ride a horse! he worked for the prison system as a gaurd. Cool he even rode with a rifle, kinda scary.

Speaking of bad memory, we went to Washington and Oregon, visited our beautful grand daughter and we forgot to take our cameras! Sorry maybe next time.

Hey mine waltripians,
Lung problems finally got the best of me...had to make one of my semi-annual  trips to the ER today about noonish. Got home about 5. Each attack seems to be worse than it's predecessor...Coughed so hard the last week, bruised all the muscles in and around chest and stomach!!!  My body is becoming a toxic waste dump for meds...albuterol...prednesone...hydrocodone...etc...

DW was with me, as she usually is...both our sons joined us and held my cold cold hands...sure does help, surrounded by loved ones, doesnt it??? that, and competent doctors and nurses...and Memorial City Hosp is one of the best, if not THE best...

Got a sore throat from all the lung stuff, so I am drinking SleepyTime Extra and Tension Tamer tea in one of my Harley Davidson mugs....yall dont tell ok...we'll just keep that amonst us, eh hoser!!!!

Here's a real shocker...I should be asleep, but am not...as usual. Methinks I napped an hour sometime in the ER...what is it now, almost 2...oh well...

Forgot my bionic ears today, lung problems take precedence over ears anyhoo...but all day, as now, I've noticed how muted and muffled things sound...like right now, all I hear, is the ringing in my ears...I dont even hear my fingers stroking the keyboard...well, I do hear the dinning room table groaning and complaining under the weight of a wooly mammoth. I know, I know, you dont allow your cat on the table, well neither do we...and believe me, he has received a stern warning and a good talking to for his trouble...Ol Oliver doesnt seem to put much stock in our warnings...almost as if...he doesnt care!!!!! We will of course continue to work with "His worship" till he at least shows some semblance of "caring"!!!!

YUK, cold hot tea, is nasty...Cold, cold tea is good...hot cold tea is...not so good, but hot tea cold is just horrible, like hot coffee cold is...

Havent taken the boys out on patrol in the last couple of days, much to their dismay...If I feel up to it, maybe to morrow. gonna try to go to church...I like weaing my new sunday go to meetin hearing aids...feels like I'm being productive...

Hey Rich, hows Liz paw???? Hows her Maw???? You know I had to say it didnt you...seriously, her widdle tootsie doing better...how many treats and biscuits does it take for good healing????

Lloyd, what a bummer, leaving your camera at home...buy two cameras, or however many house holds you visit, and leave one at each home...voila, you neednt worry about forgetting your camera again...the digital point and shoots are very inexpensive...well, opposed to say a Canon T2 etc...I use to be a better than average, nay, a very good photographer, during the SLR Film days. I have about 6 Nikons, with all the bells and whistles and lens...who'ld a thunk it that they would  all become obsolete! Took em all to Camera Exchange, along with aluminum cases and extra lenses an a zillion filters, just to see what they would give me for them...240.00dollars.

I knew it wasnt going to be a lot, but that wasnt even worth going in there for...So, what do I do with all this obsolete camera equipment???? I hate just giving it away, or throwing it away...hmmm...

I will probably buy the new Canon T2 system...seems to be among the best in digital photo gear...My major problem is not being able to see...well, that would seem to be one of the attributes one should possess whilst taking pictures, wouldnt you think????

I dont want to get something so sophisticated and complicated, that you need a degree just to operate it...I dont know, still thinking about it. Might go with one of the lesser Canons, not a point and shoot, but not the Starship Enterprise either...

Ok, I've bored you out of your minds, to be sure. but at 2 am, what cha gonna do...

this is a picture of my grandson Taylor when he was about 4. He was ring bearer at my Nephews wedding...I took the wedding pictures, and they turned out most excellent. I've done a few weddings, but generally turned most jobs down... too much can go wrong...and generally does. With the new digital technology, it takes a lot of the guess work and wrong things out of the equation...My grandson still has that smile...

Chat at ya later...ol duke of earl hisownself, me

Beau, be glad to have such a good family, they are there when you need them and even if you don't need them they hold your hand.

Today was our joggingtime, starting was hard, but it's supposed to be healthy. Nap afterwards is easy and Barbara still is sleeping.

Greetings from cold and rainy Berlin,

Teddie Jordan

Beau, sorry to hear you've been having a tough time. There's alot of pollen in the air this time of year. Try staying in more until you get better. You know we're not kids anymore, we've got to start taking a little better care of ourselves.

I had the pleasure of taking my son-in-law and two 9 year old grandsons on a youth weekend duck hunt at my friend Mike Jenson's place, on a flooded fallow rice field down near Eagle Lake Saturday. It was the first duck hunt ever for Will and James and boy were they excited. It was also the first time James had ever fired a shotgun. There were a lot of ducks and they missed quite a few at first, but we told them to just be patient and sure enough they started hitting better. On this special weekend, which is always one week before the official start of duck season, only youth 15 and under can shoot, so it is a perfect time to teach gun safety and proper gun handling without the distraction of  the grownups trying to also shoot.

Final tally was three ducks total, each killed one by themselves and on one they both shot and we couldn't tell who hit so we gave them each credit for one half on that one. My Lab Gus did all the retrieving and that made it special for the boys too because they just adore him, and the feeling is mutual.

Another friend, Jim, brought his grandson John who is 14 and a little more experienced and he got 3 ducks too. Mike and another friend, Dan, both expert duck callers, sat behind the blind and played beautiful duck music on their calls. The blind was roomy and comfortable and well camoflauged so it was a first class experience. It was also a good opportunity to talk to the boys about the importance of being good stewards of the land for the benefit of the sporting species, but also all of the other types of birds and wildlife we saw, and the important role hunters and organizations like Ducks Unlimited and others play in providing money to flood winter roosts, rest ponds, and feeding habitat for the migrating birds.

After the hunt we went back to Mike's house down there and set up a clay bird thrower and let the boys shoot trap. That really was a hit (Pun intended) and all three boys gained experience and confidence by breaking a number of clay birds.

All in all it was a fun experience for old and young and canine alike.

All six of us in the blind

 Curt and James

Pop and Will

Gus ready to do his thing

Hey Bernd, Teddie and Jackie et al...thanks for the well wishes...I'm not young anymore???? What tha???? When did that all come about???? Got to work this Saturday, Mr Vanek having big sale on meat and other stuff...gonna work the produce dept and check and sack...seems like only yesterday, Mangum SuperValue was part of my family and vice versa...found an old apron I wore back then...it was a uniform of sorts...kind of yellowed and old...like me.

Bernd, you are correct sir, my family is the best thing...been blessed beyond all measure with genetic family and extended waltrip family and service family(I hear from my comrads from time to time, there's a few of them left) and church family...

But I'm ok...I really do appreciate everyones concern, means a lot to me...DW says she was really scared this time, as it was the worst episode yet...Me too...but I survived..."WHATEVER DOESNT KILL ME MAKES ME STRONGER"..that and family and friends...Plus there are alot more good folks, some of them we know, that have it a lot worse...prayers for them as well!!!!

Lindsey Apostolo is going through a very trying time, tumors are growing...Might want to throw in some serious prayer for her and Leon and their families...she has changed doctors...got all this info from Lindsey on Caring bridge...Put them on your prayerlist at your churches...just might beat this thing yet!!!!!

Hey Teddie, what a great hunt...it's as much about being there and the memories as it is about the hunt, if not more...3 ducks aint too shabby for some first time youte hunters...shucky darn, I aint got a duck yet...well, I did at Krogers oncet (I added a t for my east texas dialect)!!!
good looking group too...thanks for the pics...It would have been worth the price of admission to see Gus work...Ive said it before, and I'll say it again, aint nothin pertier than watchin a birddog work...NOTHING...well, maybe a few things, but not many....

I havent had duck in a while, thinking seriously about having duck for a pre-thanksgiving dinner, sort of a dress rehersal...food dress rehersals are good!

Ok, starting to cough, and got another lung treatment to get in before bedtime...hmmm...1:30 AM, is it bedtime... again???? Would that include sleep????  Probably not!!!!

So off to Steroid land..land of breathing and shakes...not the ice cream malt kind either...hmmm...maybe I'll fix a good old fashion chocolate malt for my own self, as a reward...yeah, thats the ticket...chocolat malt...might even hep me get to sleep...did have a 3 hour nap today, longest in recent memory...

So, keep the sun at your 6 and ride boldly ride...but dont forget your medicine...and eat plenty of fiber...wash behind your ears..wear clean underwear...and dance like no one is watching...

your slightly, er, well used friend and other brother...Duke of Dubarry

Cats are all use to this nonsense...they are the wise, the asleep...mine trusty sidekick Cooper, is in dog biscuit land, whereas mine other trusty sidekick jack is where...at mine side of course...he is so warm, and I am so freezing...maybe he knows...

Man this chair is squeeky...break out the WD 39, 40 or 41, whichever it takes...gonna have to shut this down, hands shaking so bad, making my fingers miss the keys...and we all know how critical fingers are to typing...guess I could use my nose, but it's runny, so thats snot a good I dear...no toe either...Hey jacck , would you like to learn how to type for a pack of Oscar Mayers???? That ol boy would learn to build a computer for some OM...man, getting harder and heareder to control my fingers k;k;sj but I hate to leave, no one for me to talk to here, since all are asleppoi  k;lasleep...

bye for nowei;l jd but not for linlng long...I be watching you, and I'll be seeing you, in all the old familiar places...

DOD

My mom made that overcoat and pants and hat for me...about 3 yrs old...see the big window fan???? early airconditioning!

Hey BroBeau - love those pictures -- you should have been a model.  And your mother - she had to be the seamtress of the year.  As I said before -- a labor of love.  You take care of yourself, those lungs need to heal -- so slow down and give it time.

Teddie -- enjoyed your pics too and the adventures of your grandsons first duck hunt -- that will be a memorable time in their lives they will never forget!  My son, Doug,  was hunting by nine and got his first deer -- my dad and brother were avid hunters and they didn't waste anytime teaching him.  Now at 34, the highlight of his life is hunting -- he can not wait for November 7th - deer lease in Llano!!!!!!!

Yes, prayers are needed by all --- Jim Taylor - his brother, David (Class of 66) passed away suddenly on Saturday.  And our healing prayers for Lindsey Apostolo continue.  And any others that are facing health or life issues, family deaths -- we are here for you, just let us know.

Have a good week and please we'd love to hear from all of you.  As I said before -- even if it's just a "Hi" --- let us know you're here - PLE-E-E-E-E-EASE!

Hugs

J

Afternoon Fellow Waltripians. Don't forget that this coming Friday, The Waltrip Club will meet at 11:30 AM at the Five Guys Burgers & Fries on the SE corner of San Felipe and Post Oak Blvd. (Yale and Harvard Clubs eat your hearts out)

The purpose of the meeting is three fold:

  1. Dine on a gourmet's repast
  2. Enjoy Good Fellowship
  3. Solve some of the world's problems

All of these things will be accomplished, time permitting. We will then report back to you on Monday. Everyone is welcome. You will not be expected to contribute to world problem solving on your first time. There will be experienced solvers there to offer education and guidance. Hope to see a good group there.

C. Ephus sorry you're feeling so poorly. Have you thought about hanging a dead chicken around your neck? It's an old south Louisiana remedy for what ails you. It doesn't do much but you're going to get well quick just so you can take that smelly thing off your neck. Liz's paw has heal up just fine thanks. She was doing her imitation of a speeding bullet this weekend running around the back yard.

Sir Theodore sounds like a great hunt. Keep up the good work with the kids. I still have great memories of going hunting with my dad, grandad and uncle. I realized years later that I enjoyed getting to be with them a lot more than the hunting. The hunting was just the vehicle to out in the woods with them. Man, I learned so much from them!

Jackie you just do great work on keeping this website moving, Thanks!

Everyone have a fine evening.

Thanks, Bernd --- see that's all it takes is just a "Hi" --- anybody else out there with a "Hi" - I'm challenging you!

And thanks Rich LH ---- like Beau's mother --- this website is just a labor of love for all of you!

Glad to hear Liz is on the mend --- and know what you mean about hunting with your dad.  My dad died in 1989 and my brother and son both say it -- it's not the same without dad.  My dad was a character --

I went to Krogers yesterday evening -- where were you?

Hugs

J

Hi Everyone!  Just got home from driving to Birmingham, AL, and back to see my daughter and granddaughters - that baby is growing too fast - at 7 months she is 20 lbs and 28 inches - and what a sweetie - just like her 2 big sisters!  I am truly blessed with beautiful grandchildren!  (8 of them!)

Just taking Jackie up on her challenge to say hi!  Thanks for all the pictures of the 50th reunion - especially for those of us who couldn't be there!

Get better, Beau!

Hello everyone

Age is only a state of mind, correct?  I simpathize with you Bo. Just found out that I have 2 bulging discs. L4 & L5. One left and one right. The anti inflammatories nor the muscle relaxers have helped.  Next step is pain managment on Nov. 15.  Living on the good (or bad) stuff for now.  Seems that the two bionic hips may be the culprets.  Doc left the left leg shorter than the right. Like I said, age is only a state of mind???  Do I hear a heck yes?  It was good to read everyones latest comments.  Bo, take care of yourself. There are folkes ,your lovely lady, grands, and critters that need you!  Everyone take care and please keep us infirm folkes in your prayers.

Jimmie Sue
