Teddie Jordan

Fran and I had a very enjoyable surprise day  today. We had left Houston last Wednesday on a trip to Knoxville, Tennessee to celebrate the life of my sister Kay's husband Tom, ( my beloved brother in law of 57 years). Enroute we stopped for two days in Biloxi which is one of our favorite Gulf Coast towns. We spent three days in Knoxville and  yesterday left there heading for Tulsa, where we have a fun and important get together this Friday evening. In between we planned a three day stop over in Branson. As we drove I got to wondering how close our route on Tuesday would take us to Mountain View, Arkansas, where our much loved and for Fran and I mutual classmate and old friend Gary Keith and his lovely wife Lois have lived for years. Well presto, presto, after a stop at a Tennessee rest area and the use of my primitive internet skills on my phone, I determined that we would be in the general area. So out of the blue I called Gary and after a little scrambling they were able to meet us today for a delightful lunch and afternoon of visiting and catching up. "

OK classmates, I think that I previously mentioned my primitive internet skills. To complicate matters, while all of the smart guys were taking typing and meeting the girls, ol' Teddie was taking wood shop and metal shop. To complicate matters further, and doesn't something always do that, about nine years ago I chopped off the one thumb that I do all of my texting with in an accident with a dangerous piece of farm equipment (a BBQ pit) down in Freer. So here I am am just trying to limp along on the shoulder of the information highway Typing on an increasingly tiny phone! So if you want to view this picture please just tilt your head about ninety degrees to the left without moving your hands, its harder than it sounds! We totally enjoyed our visit today.

Sandi Schlesinger (Stark)

Haven't been on the Forum lately, so I'm a bit behind.

Beau, so so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother.  Lost both of my parents within a few months in 2013, but thankfully, neither one had Dementia or Alzheimers. I'm very grateful that they did not have to travel down that road.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Sandi

Hey Teddie, helped you out so folks don't have to twist their necks!  So glad you and Fran got to visit with Gary and his wife.  Y'all look great and I know it was beyond fun!  Gary, you and your wife need to head to Texas to see all the gang.  We'd love to see you -- it has been way too long.  Hugs

Beau Wann, Jr.

Thanks Sandi for the condolences. May I offer mine to you on the loss of yours in recent years. TJ , condolences on the loss of your brother-in-law. Glad you got to see Gary and Lois. This is my second attempt at a response. The first was a mile long, and almost done. I have trouble searching for the "backspace" key, and ultimately hit either the "insert" key or one of the "f" keys, like f12 as I did this g o round. It brought up some sort of giberish and I tried to go back, and Voila, response gone to cyberspace.  So methinks I will not put any lengthy stories on the forum as I am want to do.

I'd be willing to bet, I have erased either on purpose or by accident, more than is actually on the forum. Oh well, as they say, "Jimmy cracked corn and I dont care"....

Hello waltripians.  Just wanted to inform all yall that the bluebonnets are blooming. Yeah, about two months early. I've never seen them bloom this early in all my borned days. I'm guessing an early spring this year!

Also too, if we  do get good weather for the fun day on the hill in Chappell Hill, and some might be discouraged from coming because of health problems, our home will be open to anyone with those concerns. No one needs to spend any or all time outside, although the ice house will be quite comfortable. Lots of outdoor chairs and cushions.

If anyone feels the need to be indoors, it can be so. We have 4 couches and a love seat, plus three beds. Several cushioned rocking recliners and several rocking chairs. Lots of comfortable spaces in which to relax. All the critters will be kept away from the guests. Dogs in the yard, cats on the screened in porch and master suite, should anyone suffer from allergies.

    So,  there you go!

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Ha, ha, Beau you always make me laugh, years of laughing with you.....LOL.  I, for one, am looking forward to waifing in and waifing out...at your Spring party, wonderful Cooper needs to be celebrated!..# 1, I am a dog lover - 3 of em, they think I'm one of em.

This has been the craziest year of weather.....can't get over it.  I'm outside all the time, mowing, cuting trash trees, weeds, stickers, burning, creating new trails for my great-grands (new everytime they come) I have my adorable Aylean coming tomorrow, she is 6 yrs and my country girl, but talks in long eloquent sentences. should be a model, or at least a golfer (says her Great grammy). Burge commented about her eyes, said something to the effect she would be a power to be reckoned with....thanks, Burge.

I look up and there are actually trees starting to bloom and yes, this week bluebonnets peeking out.  It is totally scary, as I wonder if we are actually getting degrees warmer.  Texas may become a desert.  Really feel we missed winter, I'm so used to trudging thru til Spring....and no winter, but Spring is already here.  Guess I should take off the elec. blankets as they weren't much use this winter, neither the fireplace.

Well, hoping that we miss the Bullet Train disrupting Grimes County......

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Kay...so good to see your printed woids...sometimes I feel like I'm the onliest (east texas for only) one here, although I know I'm not, but sometimes it feels like it.

Yeah, outside chores keep on a going.  I guess I'm like you, one of the pack, cept for here, I'M THA LEADER OF THE PACK, VROOM VROOM...AND THE PRIDE...to our cats, I'm the big cat, and to the dogs, the big dog.  That is, when they lett me be. Otherwise I'm just the big idjit that knows how to work the can opener. That does carry some weight I suppose. That, and cleaning out the litterboxes...what phun! ! !

I think Jimmie Lee said she would head up the desserts committee, and Barbara Porter Raines said she was doing some salad.  Keep itt simple on the desserts I reckon. Cookies cupcakes brownies sort of fare. Not the rule, just a suggestion. Salad, a bushel of lettuce and tomatoes and there you are, salad! ! ! HOWEVER, whatever anyone wants to bring will be muchly appreciated fer shur! ! !

Ok, gotta get busy, chores dont stop because it's Saturday, and they dont do themselves, so there you go...ah reckon!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Kay,  dont put away those blankies and fuzzy slippers just yet. We had 45 yesterday morn, and with tthe wind chill, down in the thirties. This frosty morn, it is 43 with no wind, but still chilly for all you old people !  It was for sure, at least a two cat night !  Methinks "old man winter" isnt through with us yet.

Our hill is covered in bluebonnets, not yet blooming cept maybe a half dozen, but they will. I was hopin they would hold off till at least 2nd week in March. That 19 degree couple of days here, I thought, killed all my fruit  trees, but my beloved says the orange t ree is buddin out, bud! Just have to wait and see whether my peaches, lemons and limes survived.

The 3 red maples are buddin out all over. Red oak not sure yet, and I think the snowy crab apple may have survived, methinks, mehopes !  there are two trees that we can see in the wooded section of the hill that both have lots and lots of white flowers on them. dont have a clue what those might be. I will take a picture and compare it to book pictures to try to identify.

Hey Johnny, we tried t he brisket at Lindemans, and that ol boy Kevin KNOWS HOW TO  DRIVE A BBQ PIT FOR SURE! ! !  WOW, that meat was like eating candy it was so good, and that"s with no sauce on it. Didnt much care for the sauce, or the cold slaw and potato salad, too much vinegar and dill, former to latter. But not to worry, got even a  better  back up plan for the PS and CS.   I'm thinking about 10 or 15 pounds of the brisket from Lindemans.

We've got the pork, sausage and chicken already taken care of and the BBQ sauce. I will run up to Waller County Line and see how much their sauce is, it's the best I've ever had. Their meat is good, but they a re really proud of it if you've seen the price per pound.

Things are really humming along here on Blueberry hill..."ah found mah thrill, ooonnn blueberry hill...." I dont have a lot of Antoines songs, maybe just an album, or maybe just one of his tunes. Cant imagine the oversight. I also dont have but one of Jimmy Reeds tunes,  and none of James Browns....what ever could ah have been a thankin? Ah do have just about everyone elses though. There's so much music, no one could ever hear it all !

I've intersperced the tunes, from most of the years. Thrown in some country, and methinks some even from this century. I dont really know what music is current because I stopped listening to the radio many years ago in the last century. Some I've heard by accident, I dont like atall!

Let me reiterate, assuming I have iterated....  I mean, if you "reiterate", wouldnt you have had to "iterate" to begin with? Dont recollect ever hearing that someone "iterated", and then "reiterated"... Oh help me Rhonda! ! !  A mind is a terrible think sometimes!!! Anyway as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted by Dr. Jeckyl, things are running along smoothly up here where the rare is air...I'm not even going to backspace that, just leave er be!

Allus we uns need now is good weather like we've had for this past week, save Monday!  Monday was stinky as far as good weather goes. Hmm, looking east, sun has risen and looking good, but looking west, it's gotten dark...boo hiss...well, we will see what we will see !

    Well, there you are...

Wayne Lake

All,

March 18th is quickly approaching and I would like to remind and update on who’s doing what:

  • Beau and Diane are furnishing /preparing all meats and beans with help from Johnny Sheffield and we all can contribute to the kitty accordingly.
  • Jimmy Hilsher is arranging for the beer with Tom Gann and Teddie assisting (Teddie is in charge of cacahuates which is South Texas for peanuts). Ps Jimmy assures me there will be no leftovers!
  • Jimmie Lee Smith Brawner has agreed to coordinate desserts (did you know desserts spelled backward is Stressed ?) and I think she has it covered but feel free to bring anything you like of ask her what she needs.
  • We do not have a coordinator for salads and probably need a couple of more folks to help. Remember, at this stage of the game, we all need our roughage!
  • I will bring potato salad.
  • Bring your own soft drinks and wine.

Beau/Diane will post landmarks along 290 going North and South for those of us directionally challenged in finding their place for the first time.

Richard Mc Caully, it would be good to see your smiling face! Have not seen or heard from Sandi Schlesinger, Tonda, Lynn and Pat Prewitt, Larry Don York, Skeeter, Dennis and Meridth Hansel. We only have about 40 committed so far so get the word out and try to come.

Thanks again to Jackie who makes all this possible.

Wayne

Keep trying to figure out something to bring....how are the olive, pickle celery stuff, anyone bringing these? I can, and will if needed.  Chips, dip avocadoes?  I've managed to pull out a few acceptable dinners for my church folk when during our bible study, go from house to house each meeting. I had mexican and then chinese I think came out pretty well (Sam Club and I get along pretty well). Although I'm not the cook those Germans are. Just let me know.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Howdy myne waltripians !   Jackie add two more to the fray, Richard and Hedy Kennedy. Just finished talking to him.

Hay Kay, bring chips  and dips, those are allus handy.  We're like you, although we dont use sams club, we use costco, prolly just the same.

Ok, we really dont want anyone to spend more $$$ than they would spend at goode compaqny or fudds, after all, this was my idear to throw a party on the hill. We get very few visitors up here this high in the monastery, save for the occasional visit from the YETI family, but those folk are too much party animals for us.

We are just so honored that YALL ARE GONNA COME UP ! ! !  I do hope it will be fun for yall.  Bout the onliest (east texas for only) bad thing about this is I've been painting the porch ceilings. One almost 95% complete cept for cutting in. still got the back porch to paint. We're trying to do it before the party, but it needed to be done anyway. Painting it blue to keep the spiders and birds out.  I really hate painting with a passion. But this party was a good excuse to get off my duff and git er done! It has been very hard to paint with the wind blowing, first from the north at 100 mph and then from the south at 100mph and then back from the north etc....

Ok, did I mention chips and dips?  Also some dessert and or salads. I dont have a clue what is being brung, and how much. I know Teddy and Jimmy H are bringing the beah. Jimmie lee is bringing dessert, and barbara is bringing salad, and Frank and Wayne are bringing potato salad. I dont know how much each is bringing, enough for 42 people or what, but that's ok.  If we run out of desserts, the Chappell Hill BBQ and Kolache factory is just 2 miles away, and they have kolaches, cinnimon rolls, AND PIE, LOTS AND LOTS O HOME BAKED PIE. Pricey but good.

We have the bean dept taken care of, and all the meat and BBQ sauce, plus lots O condiments. got plates and plastic civil ware. We do have some wine, and my wine is real close to Welchs grape juice. If I drink wine, which is rare, it has to be sweet, like me I suppose.  I know Diane has some sangria she wants to try out. I'll be drinking hard whiskey, hard !!!

I will leave early saturday morn and pick up the ice from Buccees and the Exxon station. 20lb bags for .99cents. Plus I've been packing away the ice in the ice makeerr, and if push comes to shove, we can always get more.

I've got signs ready to make and post, and within a few days I will finish them, photograph them and put them on the forum so yall can familiarize yourselves with them. I'll make a map and add some landmarks and mileage.  But, since I know yall all have cellphones with MAPS AND OR GPS,  just type in where you are leaving from, and the destination 4040 MARSHALL LN, CHAPPELL HILL, TX 77426, AND voila, there you are! ! !   plus we will have balloons on the street marker....

Now, I know all yall have a much higher GPA than I, and in fact mine was probably the lowest in the history of mankind, and still was able to graduate, thanks in large part to one very special lady, JENNY TAYLOR....!!!!! Yea Jenny, and thanks again.  (if it hadnt been for Ms Taylor, I'd probably still be there watching the cornstruction of the new waltrip, and trying to get out of whoever was teaching algebra 1 and english and civics, and lunch etc.....So, since yalls GPA is so high and mine is so low, and I can find my way home, shirley you high gpaers should be able to find your way here. Dont maKe me come over there...!

Nah, just funnin ya...if anyone should still have trouble finding the place after all the clues, just call Diane or I and we'll talk you in , and if need be, have you stay put where youre lost, and we'll come fetch you!

Lady Di's number is 713-560-0676...........Mine is 713-560-0673.....

So, there you are ....and there you go....

Beau Wann, Jr.

I am sampling the San Gria that lady Di bought, and it's gretty pood!  Seems that works the best of all for a pain killer. I just cant take the PK they have out now days. They just turn my body upside daown and inside out and still dont touch the pain. They make me sleepy, but wont allow me to sleep because they make me paranoid.  So, I'm not taking them anymore, just wine and whiskey...well, not mixed together, but you catch my drift.

Wine is suppose to be good for you, in moderation, just like everything else.  What got me started on this dissertation on wine?   Kay mentioned that she was going to have some up here where the air is rare, and we have a plethora of it....very sweet wine, but wine nonetheless.

So, yall bring your favorite wine, kick back and relax and have fun. I promise you a good time!  We still havent finished the front porch ceiling yet, too much wind and now too much rain and wind. Oh well, I really dont care. The porch railing needs painting  too also. And this place is just 2 years old....What the heck was I thinking, or not thinking when we decided to buy this place. Oak Forest sure sounds good about right now!

I did manage to break the glass in one of our 8 foot doors. Seems the eed weeter decided to chunk a rock at it. Shattered all to hell and gone. It's still in the door, but not looking too good. Fortunately it is double pane glass, so only the outer glass broke. No one fixes those so I;m told. The door people that put them in said I can buy the glass and install it myself, it's just a phillips screwdriver....

YEAH RIGHT, WHEN PIGS FLY!!!!!!!   When someone tells me "it's easy, why a 2 year old child could do it blind folded asleep with both hands tied behind it's back", I know I sure as hell cant do it without major problems. I think I will try to get my son Billy up here to see if he can help me fix it. Might be a couple of months, because he's really busy with his company.

Diane and I are so looking forward to seeing everyone, lord willing and the creek dont rise!
so there you are...
