So happy for your good news, Jackie.  Enjoy the holidays!

Thoughts for peace, strenght, and comfort to our classmates and their spouses who are battling illness.

Jackie, this is wonderful news about your treatment.  I am praying for your continuing good news.  I am praying for Susan.  Sometimes it is harder for the loved one than the patient.

Thank you all for the answers about football.  Don I think you are right about the size of the players in high school.  I have only known one professional football player (mike stensruud) and his little boy was about the largest toddler I have ever seen.  He wasn't fat....he was what mike called Norwegian farmer material.  Beau, those boys who attacked the referee were from around here so we heard a great deal about it.  Coach is fired and boys have been sent to "alternative school".  We used to call it reform school I think.  Put all of them in one place and they teach each other bad things.  Some kids who play sports get scholarships that enable them to go to college.  I am still conflicted.

I cherish all your sweet notes and it certainly means so much to me to have your prayers, love and support.

Just wanted to share an email that Miss Lee (Mrs. Cole) sent to Johnny --- you can contact her through our website since she is a "joiner"  or me "Contact Us" and I'll give you her email.  How wonderful would it be if anyone is visiting VA and/or DC area to have a visit with her. Hugs J

Subject: I will not be attending.....

The Fall Fling but I will be thinking about those who gather. First, who am I....my name is Sandra Lee Cole and in 1964 was sponsor of the Imperial Guard and an English teacher.  When the Fall Fling was announced I thought that might be possible....we frequently travel in the fall to Texas to visit my sister in The Woodlands. As time progressed she came east instead.

My husband and I are living in Oakton, Virginia near Washington, DC.  We travel often to see our son and two daughters who live in COVINGTON, Va, INDIANAPOLIS,In, and. New York City respectively.

I volunteer at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and the Library of Congress in Va and DC and could easily meet any Waltrip visitors to the area for coffee and conversation at one of those sites. Please share my email with any who want to be in touch. Have a wonderful gathering of renewing and continuing friendships.

My 1964 ARIES enables me to put face and names together easily...hope to see pictures and read about the evening.

Just saw on the evening news that a Waltrip student was run over and killed by a train this morning while walking to school and crossing white oak bayou on the train trestle just west of T. C. Jester. Very sad. I am kind  of familiar with that trestle from just a couple of experiences, it's a pretty long one,  and it always scared me to death. Rest in peace young man.

I remember hearing about a couple of guys who got caught out on it when they realized a train was coming and literally ran for thier lives and made it. It's hard to appreciate how difficult it is and how easy it is to miss one step and fall while running when the pressure is on. The only option is to jump and that's not easy to survive either. I know a lot of kids have music in their ears these days and that would explain missing the sound of a train, but the vibration and rumble would be hard to miss.

Sawr that on the news about the young man killed by a train at TC Jester...too sad...Allen and Don are correct in their assessment of sports injuries...Theirs is  first hand knowledge rather than an observer...

What a nice note from Miss Lee...

Might not make it to Goodefudds this saturday. Cooper is 12 and is not doing well in the "getting around department" ie mobility in the hind legs...once he is up, with  help, he can move around fairly well...he falls down when his hind legs are too far forward, and being such a large dog with very long legs, it's easy for him to fall backward and down, to which he cant get back up again without  help!

Since he has always been such a goofy acting dog, it's hard to tell if a pain medication he is on, is helping or hurting!  It's also hard to tell what he is barking for...the Great Pyrenees in him tells him to stand and stare, at what, we dont know.... He still acts like he did when we got him 9 years ago, goofy, so putting him down is not an option yet !  As long as we are around to help him, his quality of life is still good ! ! !

I still remember all the children and adults he has helped by just being...him...I know I've mentioned it before, but I remember one autistic child, 9 years old, that had never spoken a word or smiled, wound up grinning from ear to ear, reading books out loud and jabbering like a magpie, just because of Cooper....He even changed an entire class of autistic children from standing alone and rocking back and forth, "no eye contact, no touch" children,  to hugging and touching and walking and talking to cooper,  because of his visit... ... wish I had that kind of value and affect on folks...

His affect of alztheimers patients was remarkable, for a short period of time...those folks never get better or recover from that dreaded disease...but Cooper helped some...he went to each and every person at the facility and loved on them and allowed them to love on him...he even worked at a hospice...both facilities were very hard for me to visit...who you saw in October, was not going to be there in November....

He was abandoned once at 3 years old, and was on death row at the pound, so I'm not about to abandon him just for my convenience...he has been a very valuable asset to the human community as a certified "therapy dog"  ....so now, it's his turn for therapy, and so he shall receive it...

If we dont make it this Saturday, maybe we'll meet again at Fudds next month...or the "sprang flang" , sure gives my spirit a lift seeing and being with everyone...

Prayers of course for the Rose Family, and  for Jackie, and for all going through difficulties...

Ok, Cooper is barking...

The students faculty and the neighborhood, were devistated at the tragic loss of the young man on the train track yesterday. Some of the neighbors were talking of trying to get a pedestrian bridge across the bayou. The officer on the scene said the terrible thing is, the kids will be right backon the tracks the next day.

When I went to work for Texas Internatonal Airlines, Ms Lee wrote me a wonderful congratulatory note. I was so surprised to find out her Father was Captain Lee. He was the senior pilot and I always looked forward to flying with him when I could.

Look at the beauty I found in Shipshewana, IN at the Hudson Auto Museum... a 1952 Hudson Hornet pickup truck made from a 1952 Hornet 4-door; 308 cu. in.; 6 cylinder; 145 HP.

WOW Jan, a work of art...seen a couple of hudsons up here, but nothing like that one...obviously since it's one of a kind...Yall bringing it to GoodeFudds?

As a young very intelligent lad back in mah DuBarry Days, I've played on every trestle and traintrack around there...back when there were fast passenger trains along with the long slow freights...I could always hear that whistle or horn, and see that head light from away far off...being a magnet for trouble, and allergic to pain and death,  that was usually my cue to get the heck away from there...I sure did love to see those passenger trains though...

Put a few pennies on the tracks...of course, if you could find it again, youd have an elongated piece of copper...now they have machines at museums that will do that for you for .25 cents...sounds fair to me...put in one of your pennies, and then a quarter and they mash your penny for you...now, instead of having 26 cents, you have a lump of copper worth....zero...of course that's about the only thing .26 cents will buy you...nothing...

That's something I miss up here, the sound of trains...Lived within two blocks of train tracks for most of my life, got use to hearing them...I did hear one up in Brenham yesterday, as the santa fe RR runs t hrough the middle of town...probably goes to and from Hearne, once a major hub for the RRs going all four directions....learned that bit of history from Lynn Berry who lives in Hearne....

Just off the square in Brenham, where one set of active tracks lay, I've stood across the street  from a passing train, just mesmerized by sight and sound...just like a kid....one of the unexplained wonders I suppose ...

Diane's been up all night with Cooper...sometimes he just will not settle down, no matter how much drugs he has...found some pills in his bed and on the floor, so that's why they're not working...we immerse them in peanut butter, bacon, sausage, hot dogs, and sometimes he still finds them and spits them out, the rascal...

So tonight is my turn to stay up with him...still might make it to GoodeFudds Saturday, if we can time things just right...ie pills and supper for Cooper...

Ok, time to check on the  coffee...coopers quiet...got a hankering for a hotdog with plenty of mustard, for breakfast...

Prayers for Bryon and the Rose family...

Beau, I love hearing the trains in new braunfels.  When I was a kid up here during the summer we knew it was time to get back to camp when the 9 pm train came through.  We have trains coming through every afternoon and night.  Some people complain about them.  We have a train museum that is fun.  One of Amy's friends was visiting stateside and I spent some time with her younger son at the museum.  He knew everything about the old steam trains.  They live in Vietnam now so he misses getting to see trains very often.  The old man at the museum gave him his phone number and email so they could stay in touch.

I had forgotten that cooper had some Pyrenees in him.  I miss having my big gentle giants.  My Aussie weighs about 65 lbs and I guess at my age downsizing animals makes sense.  Ron keeps talking about getting another Pyrenees, but training a very large puppy is a job for a younger person.  My largest pyr. Weighed close to 120.  He was the best babysitter in the neighborhood.  If a kid was heading for the street the dog would literally sit on her.

Jim Taylor and I enjoyed the visit with Mrs. Sanders. She seems very much aware of what was going on and participated in our conversation. Sweetie mentioned her teching history which I do not recall. She was our home room teacher and we also had her for Reading, Writing, and Spelling. There was a history teacher named Mrs. Graham who I liked. Like Jimmie Lee I really liked Mrs. Wilbourn and her teaching us English including diagramming sentences. Another Englis teacher I really liked was Mrs. Kelly.

I still diagram sentences in my head when I am listening to people talk.  One of my daughters learned to read phonetically and she enjoyed diagraming sentences.  The other one did not hear phonetically and learned reading in a completely different way.  She could diagram simple sentences only.  The human brain is amazing.

Hope everyone has a good time fellowshiping tonight.

Amazing Pat, just amazing...I can follow a diagram or schematic of electronical stuff, but diagraming a sentence is like algebra...just foreign to me....and you do it in your head????  About the onliest thing I do in my head, is wonder why I'm in a particular room...what did I come in that room for?  Have to go sit down again and try to recollect what I was recollecting I ought to do...as I've said, a mind is a terrible think...

Great Pyrenees are not for folks that like to be in control...because if you own one, clearly you are not in control, I dont care if you can whisper to dogs or read their minds or what...A GP is it's own master...

My sister had one many years ago, and their GP PooBear, opened their refrigerator and ate a 14 pound standing rib roast, a pound of bacon, and a pound of butter and whatever else it decided that needed to be liberated from the Kelvinator...it did pick out all he veggies and fruit and gently placed them on the floor...I say gently, there were K9 teeth in the aforementioned...

When they got home, PooBear was laying in the foyer, groaning and moaning...Vet said to give him PetoBismol and he'd be right as rain..."right as rain", doesnt really describe a GP....PooBear ate through a wall in the house, just because the door was shut and he wanted in the other room ! ! !

Kathy was walking him one day, and a little "yippie yap" was jumping up at Poos snout and being a nuisance...not a smart move....it jumped up one time too many and disappeared in Poos mouth...much to the yippie yaps owners dismay...Poo didnt hurt it, just was keeping it in his mouth so the little monster would shut the hell up, and it did...

PooBear weighed around 200 pounds and stood well over 6 ft tall on it's hind legs...was about 3 foot tall or more on all fours...that bad boy looked like a polar bear...when it layed on the couch, there was no room for anyone or anything else....

I'm pretty sure, that Cooper is the Forrest Gump of the animal kingdom...never met a dumber and more obstinate animal, yet so loveable and valuable to youngsters and adults alike....it's like every day is a new day and every step is a new step for Cooper..."hey, where did this couch come from"....uh, coop, youve been laying on that couch for about 5 years now....

I had to sleep next to him last night to get him to lay his head down and go to sleep....Diane did that the night before...we're trying to get his drugs and schedule regulated...aint easy with Cooper, but we will keep trying...

I wanted to take this chance to thank each and everyone

who was able to attend the fall fling last night.  What a great place

and wonderful weather that we had. It was so great to see everyone and to rekindle our

memories and friendship. Looks like Goode company has won out on good food

and hospitslity for future spring and fall flings for our class.

God bless you all and keep you and your families in good health.

Keep the months of April and October open for future get togethers.

Until next time I wish each and everyone and there families happy

holidays and a blessed new year to come

Yes, you found a perfect location for our get-together, Sheffield.  Nice, open, large area for everyone to move around and talk.  Thanks for all the time and effort you put into finding the perfect spot for our gathering.

Yesterday, the Reagan Class of 1963 celebrated their 70th birthdays together.  I had mentioned to Jackie that it might be fun to celebrate our 70th birthdays together (how many of us thought we'd actually make it to 70?), so if anyone is interested, we might combine it with our April Spring Fling?????

Please continue to pray for Susan Howard's husband, Bryon. He's still critical, but he did get to see his kids over the weekend.

Leron and I had a great time at Goode's this past Saturday. We enjoyed visiting with our friends however I think I'm going to have to do any future visiting earlier in the day. If any of you want to do lunch sometime let us know. Even when we were dating, most of the time he got me home by 10:30 I went to bed and he watched tv with my mother. I still go to bed early and he is still watching tv until midnight.  Since we live 100 miles away it's tough on me. And oh yeah I don't love spending the night in a hotel so that's not an option.  Lunch anyone?

Please add my thanks to Johnny and everyone that helped with the Spring Fling.  It was great to see everyone and catch up on each other's lives.  Looking forward to the next one.
