The Weather Ball, Globe, Light (whatever) jingle was:

"Red light, warmer weather;

White light, cooler weather;

Green light, no change in view;

Blinking light, rain is due."

If there had been one for snow, it probably would have been "Ball Explodes and Building Collapses: Snow is coming."

Hi all, have so enjoyed the Class Reunion and al the pics...no, there are not any old people there, as we continue to move, think and enjoy....what else is there....lol.

I'm still adjusting to retirement, still love my country out here but haven't a clue on what my future goals should be.  Still inventoring household collectibles and Texas antiques, mostly for ins. and later grandkids so they don't dispose of it without my pages of estimates....LoL.  I think we all have a fear of that. I have an old Brookside cemetary lot and Sue says she also has one, if anyone is interested in getting the two. They are valued at $3995.00, but we will sell them much cheaper.

Son Todd and Cheli are very involved in the high school here, A.S.I.S.D, Todd doing the school board thing, Cheli also.  I tried a Hallmark job and it was no joke.....Two days and 2-3 hrs. of work, only thing is too difficult to do, I was just out of my league.  I wanted something "non-office",but realized my occupation is the one I should stay with, that is if I decide to work further. I earlier (15 yrs.) tried it with veterinary training, went back to office.

Nothing like watching deer and wildlife and living the quiet peaceful life....nothing compares . Beau hope you are in your home in Chappell Hill by now, you and Diane will absolutely love the country life. Dogs, cats and all.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey all yall! ! !  Nope, not in the joke house yet...Curly Moe and Larry still slugging it out...but what the hell, it's only been 11 months for a 2200 sq ft custom home that is not custom...oh well...

Been fighting an upper respiratory infection since a month before the reonion, till now...many nebulizer treatments of albuterol and other mind numbing drugs later, I are somewhat better...Diane been fighting an eye infection...now she is somewhat better...

Hey Kay, back when I retarred in the summer of 2000, I thought I could just jump right into another job, maybe CEO of GM or Ford, heck I was only 55...au contraire mon ami...THEY, the establishment, does not want you if you are past 40. (this is where the word ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISM comes from)

I did try my hand at retail, got hired on at BASS PRO SHOP at katy mills mall, and retired after 2 days...found I couldnt stand on my feet 8 hours a day, even with the best orthoshoes money can buy...

Later on I hired on with Lowe's and lasted all of 2 days before retarring...I can stand, till I need to sit, which is soon after standing, and sit till I need to lay down, which is soon after sitting,  and lay down a lot more than the aforementioned...

maybe I could work at Mattress Firm testing the beds...of course I would need a couple of pukin cats walking on me, and pukin their guts out in the middle of the night on the blankets, then got to get up and change the bed covers,   and a dog jumping on the bed, causing the pukin cats to hiss and screech and smack his nose and then the much chagrined dog crawling back under the bed and bumping it all night long, and pounding the wall with his tail every time you move,  but other than that, just your normal sleeping guy!

How bout this rain?  Cant buy rain for 6 months, and then we get 6 months in 6 minutes. Rained 2 inches at the hill, and a bunch here at the Norman Bates rent house!

Kay, what you should do, is just have fun, and sleep in if you can! I slept in oncet (east texas for once) till 5:30.   I'm really trying to sleep later than that, maybe 5:35 or what the heck, just throw caution to the wind,  5:45, just being a bum aint I with that kind of talk!   Take up a hobby, like I have, emptying Jack Daniels bottles and poppin pills...packing and unpacking and repacking boxes getting ready for the big move...

Not been sleeping too good lately, now there's a real shocker right!  Cooper is going through "doggiepaws" according to the vet.  For some reason, and the vet says it is common in old dogs, they start having cognitive problems, and get their days and nights mixed up.

I dont know how that happened to Cooper, because he generally sleeps longer than the pukin cats do, and they sleep about 16 hours a day or more, and Cooper never knows whether it's day or night anyway. And, he has been having cognitive problems since we got him at 3 years old.

If you move a piece of furniture in the room that he is in, he is frozen in place and cant move until what ever was moved is either completely removed, or back where it belongs. I didnt know dogs knew any thing about "fang schway" (east texas for feng shue).  Maybe that's where the "fang" part comes in, because dogs do have fangs....

Anyway, for some reason, when we leave him alone, and try to go to bed, he gets off the couch and stares at it and then BARKS his one huge BARK to let us know he is lost and unhappy. If we dont attend to him in a reasonable length of time like a minute, he barks another huge winder rattlin bark,  till we get in there and sit on the couch with him. Meanwhile,  he has awakened Jack and the entire pukin cat herd, all thinking it is time to eat.... We both have spent many a night sitting on the couch with our feet propped up, blankie and pillow in place. Sometimes he settles down about 2 or 3 AM in the morn...well, when else is 2 or 3 AM?

Vet gave us some Tramidol for pain for him, so we give him a tablet at bedtime now. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Vet prescribing benedryl...she says it works swell, unless he is one of those critters that it causes to make hyper...be just our luck he gonna be the hyper-dog!

Right now, I have a pukin cat laying across my arms as I type this...that should be one of the tests in typing..."Ok now class, get your pukin cat to lay across your arms and blocking the screen, and type, the lazy pukin cat jumped over the idiot dog", or words to that defect...I know, a mind is a turrible think...

Ok, gotta run, or limp over to the couch and try to settle His majesty down...

Have a great weekend and remember Tuesday (Nov. 11) is Fudd's!  If you have any reunion pictures, please bring them.

Thanks, Robby, for the "Weather" report.

How in the "World Weather Globe" did I miss it or mistakenly imagine it on top of the much shorter Gulf Building.  My first job that paid more than 50¢ per hour was in 1964 with Texas National Bank of Commerce. So, I am guessing the ball had been moved by the time of the merger of National and Commerce. I think I read that the sphere ended up at Astroworld as the "World Globe" at the entrance.

Back to the TNBC. My office window opened (yes, remember office windows that "opened") and faced the Majestic Theater marquee as the Business Development office was on the second floor. The parade route also came down the window street. We would hang out the window and shout, wave and throw non-shredded pieces of paper on the paradees. Woud the window street be Rusk?

Well, , I missed it again!  This time it was my husband's fault! Ha!  He accidentally hit his left leg with a sledge hammer while he was attaching a trailer to our mower.  Couldn't walk and is still in a healing process.

Last reunion, I fell and broke two vertebrae in my back.  I was stretching it that morning on an inversion table. As it turned upside down my feet came out and I fell on our concrete floor.  Yes, it was painful.  I am blessed that it healed  . Gets tired but I am still able to do everything.

I was really looking forward to this one when my darling had his accident.

I just looked at the pictures and it was wonderful to see faces of people I remember.  Made me even more sad that I didn't get to come.

Thanks for all the pictures and hopefully I'll get to come next time!

Re/ the earlier mention of the Weather "Ball, Globe, Light, whatever"  atop what then was called the Texas National Bank Building, and the jingle about it, it was called the Weather Eye. The bank must have hired a clever jingle-writer, because s/he probably also wrote the jingle for the Texas National Charge Card, one of the first bank cards, back in the day before magnetized strips. It went: (chorus, march style) - "Charge card, charge card, charge card!!" /// (bass drum) - "BOOM!"  /// (solo) - "You get instant credit with a Texas National Charge Card: / Charge accounts at hundreds of Houston stores. / For everything you purchase, you receive one statement / From Texas National Bank."

Karin, sorry you misssed the reunion.   It was a goodun!  Not as good as the 20th...we were 30 years younger!

Ok, myne fyne waltripyne classmates O myne...this will be my last post for sometime, or maybe forever.  Good news is, we closed on the house on the hill last Friday. Bad news,  No cable out there, or internet...so, dont know what we're gonna do!  I guess we can get satelite TV, but dont know about the internet.  There are a couple of hotspots thruough ATT, one at the burger king at rattlers in Chappell, hill, and a couple in the McDonalds in Brenham.  I havent been to either one of those dives in 40 years. Dont plan on starting anytime soon.   Dont know if Brenham has a library. Oh well, onward and upward...

We been working hard trying to get the moving process complete, and build a fence for the boys. So far, nothing has worked out the way we planned!   Got our two storage pods coming out in the morning. Gotta unload those in a day or two, then come the movers Wednesday morn to the rent house to move the rest of the stuff.  We will still have a storage unit to empty of non-essentials. And to think, we have probably gotten rid of half our junk over the last year or so.

It's just the two of us, sore back old people, and things are not going as smoothly in real life as in my mind. I guess we will eventually get it done, if we dont run out of pain meds, and it doesnt rain.

If we can still walk tuesday, we just might go to fudds, or not!

Ok, back screaming, so gotta go lay down. It's been fun.

Happy trails to you...

Your frien and brother in classmate...cephus

Beau, you know we are all relieved that your house on the hill is complete and that you will be 'living your dream' very soon.  If I didn't have one bum leg I would come to help you unpack.  I can remember when we moved to our house (on what has been called "the magic mountain") 13+ years ago.  It was a lot of work... but so-o exciting to be leaving the big city and venturing into the 'country' on our own.  We have never regretted it.  I hope you & Diane have a smooth transition to Chappell Hill.  One of these days we would like to come visit.

And seeing as how tomorrow is Veteran's Day, my mind is jogged to thank you (and all our fellow veteran classmates) for the sacrifices you made for our country.  We will never forget!

Susan Howard (Bowman)

You can count me in on that celebration! And you and Diane don't live very far from me, Beau. You'll love it when you get moved and settled in.  It will be worth all the headaches, back aches, muscle aches.......well, you get the picture.  Just do what you can each day and let the rest wait. It will eventually all fall into place.

Many thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers the past few days.  My hand surgery went well and I am in the process of healing and strengthening.  The numbing meds started wearing off on Saturday evening, so I am taking some heavy duty stuff for relief.  Compared to what many of you have been or are going through this is no biggie!  It's still comforting to know that no matter how big or small we are here for each other.

You are the best!

Per the Weather Eye:  Around 1970, when former County Judge Roy Hofheinz was building Astroworld, Dene Hofheinz Anton -- Hofheinz's daughter and Astroworld's PR-Marketing Director -- wanted to put a big glass globe with a map of the world at the entrance to the park. She remembered the Weather Eye that had been on top of the Texas National Bank/Conoco building (1955-64), tracked it down and bought it. For 35 years that globe stood at the front gate at Astroworld. The globe was removed (1994?) because although the outer portion was stainless steel, the inner part that held the lights and the bearings it rotated on was made of plain steel and had become rusty to the point of needing to be replaced. It was then moved to the Astroworld boneyard.  It was planned to be put it in an Astrodome museum but was mistakenly(?) cut up for scrap.   So now you know more than you ever wanted to know about the Weather Eye!

Beau, I have been in new Braunfels almost five years and I still have boxes in closets and a storage unit in Houston.  I have a decent back, but little hand strength.  Ron has no back strength so my son-in-law is going to have to empty that storage unit.  We brought three boxes of vinyl records home last trip.  The turntable in still in storage and I have no place to put it anyway.  Now my sister-in-law wants the records for an art project with her students.  She lives in Houston.  I will have to load them back in the car to return to houston!  I still have one box of big band era 78's in the storage unit.  Anyone, anyone, bueller'?

As many of you know, Henny fell and injured her back a couple of months ago and yesterday had her back surgery (cementing the vertebrates).  She wanted me to share her news and thanks to all of you.

Text from Henny sent 11/11 - 9:36 p.m.

I had my back procedure done today, such instant results.  We are home for now and no more surgery. Thank you all for your love, prayers -- you are wonderful.  I thought about Fudd's, decided not to push it.  Love you, Henny

Hold the phone, nope, not moving mon ami...had an asthma episode last night after fudds. Had to go to MC ER at 3:30 this morning AM, early.    Been fighting this upper respiratory BS for two months and a lifetime.   Sure grown weary of it!   This was a very bad spell, they had to give me morphine to stop my uncontrollable coughing...never heard of that before, but what the heck, I like morphine....keep them drugs coming, I allus say...

As a result of my inconsiderate lung episode, had to call and cancel movers for today...   this move has been one disaster after another for over a year...I'm about ready to just chuck it....I'm glad to hear Henny and Susan are recovering nicely...

Hey Pat, I have a gazillion ablums, 78 and 33s and 45s I have a vinyl to CD converter, and a tape to cd converter...just havent had time to work on it...you know the drill, "gonna git around to it someday".....

Took a break from packing yesterday and went to fudds...what a great group of folks...I know, I know, I say that all the time...well, if it werent true, I wouldnt say it! ! ! !

Yall all talking about that weather eye, you want a weather eye, just hang around me...first cold front, my lungs go ape s***....If I'm turnin blue, you can bet the weather is too...

Comcast will disconnect Sunday evening...yeah right, providing we actually get to move. I'm beginning to think it aint gonna happen...

Diane has talked to ATT and Direct TV, (they merged) and Bubba net for internet...ATT suppose to gonna come out tomorrow nad direct tv and bubba will be out friday...

Ok, more weariness has set in, so I'm gonna say adios for now...trappy hails all yall

BroBeau, oh, my gosh --- it was wonderful being with you and Diane last night and I knew y'all were tired, but not ER!!!!   And glad morphine kicked in and hopefully you are on a "wellness" path.  The move will happen.  We love you -- so take care of yourself and we will help in any way!

P.S. - just posted Fudd pictures.

Hugs J

Teddie Jordan

Cephus, so sorry to hear that news, and like Jackie we were pleased to see yall there last night knowing all that you had going on this week.

Easier said than done but the move will work out, the important thing is your health. I feel bad that I am unable to come and help you right now. Fran's mom fell and broke her hip and foot and is now in rehab, and we are doing the back and forth thing.

Hang in there, it's all going to work out!

And that's great news on Henny.
