Couldn't resist!  This is Barney the Bully from our Lake City cabin!  He is a rufus hummingbird and fights off all of the other hummers from the feeder!  Selfish little bugger!  He was the topic of some family text discussions this summer!

Hey Susan, that ol boy looks mad! Well, with a schnozola like that, would make anyone mad! Eh What? I guess thats getting intimate with the wildlife when you can name the hummingbirds, and remember em! I'm surprised I can remember my own name!  Thanks for the picture! you have a goood eye!

Hey Teddie, I've never seen a herd of monarch butterflys. I'll bet that was something!  I live with a pride of lions, and a pack of dingy dingos! WTL? Texas welcomes you back brother!  Dropped my son off at the airport this morn. That boy was loaded down! Fly rods, backpacks, gun cases with real guns. He checked up on the code for that at TSA, and with United Airlines. They checked em through, so I guess he got it right. He had a 2 hour layover in Chicago, then a 7 hour flight to Anchorage. I know he is just beside himself getting to go on this trip!  If not the top, then next to it on his bucket list. I am some concerned about his safety, cause this is right in the middle of grizzly bear foraging and salmon fishing.

ok, getting sleepy. Didnt get much last night, so maybe I'll make up for it tonight...

I forgot to mention about Fudds...It was swell, fine as wine, as usual. Jackie got to come and take pictures. She was a welcome sight I can tell  you that. Everyone was there, that was there, and those that werent there, well they werent there, but were missed. Fudds was funn as usual. Everyone there, is so supportive of each other. Warms the heart, it truly does...

Keep the sun at your six and ride boldly ride...but safely

Beau, I know you don't listen to alternative rock, but there is a great group named Bare Naked Ladies that sings your song.  The title is "who needs sleep". And it is a perfect song for insomnia.  The guys in the band are clothed and nerds.  The title is just a silly way to get noticed.  Song starts out "who needs sleep? Well you're never going to get it.  There's guys been awake since the Second World War".  You should listen to it so you have something to sing to yourself when you can't sleep.  It works for me.

I love watching the animals and birds getting ready for a new season.  We have too many deer right now.  I love them and some of them are completely tame, but there is not enough natural food.  People supplement by feeding them apples and other things.  I stopped in Luanda park the other day to see how low the spring was and immediately I was surrounded by geese and ducks and finally deer wanting food.  I didn't have any food so I slunk away guiltily promising to come back with some very soon.  Today is the day.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Pat, thanks for bringing "alternative rock" up to the forum. I woulda brought it up, cept I never can remember to do so. Probably from lack of sleep!

First off, what is alternative rock, and why do they call it that? I have heard of the Bear Nekid Ladies before, and probably have heard them and not known who I was listening to! Would "ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL" be classified as alternative rock? Or PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE...?    I have a couple of albums of those talented folks AATW. My beloved likes that group alot! I pretty much like the wide spectrum of music...and am always asking Diane what this tune is and that tune is, and who sings it, like I could remember it.

if you could name other "alternative rock" groups and songs, I will give em a listen. You can actually just type the name or close to it, into the search box of your internet screen, and it will bring em up, and usually let you watch a video of the group singing the song! Gonna do just that as soon as I sign off here. I have brought up steve Vai and others...I love Stevie Ray Vaughn, and just about any type music.

Dont worry about feeding the wildlife, they can usually find food...it's WATER that's really hard to find...at the old ranch, I set up 5 of those small kiddy pools all over the 40 acres, and filled em with water and even put steps up to them, and rocks and stones inside to accomodate the smaller creatures that might have trouble getting to the water. I also dug holes in the ground to trap any moisture that might accumulate...

I'm like you, I love the wildlife, all the critters, and feel bad for them when they have to go beggin for food. As a general rule, most of em wont starve to death, cause most critters will eat anything. The old deer with the ground down and missing teeth will most certainly starve cause they can no longer chew the acorns and corn.

But, it's just nature being nature. Some years food and water is plentiful, and some years not so much. Thats one of the reasons for hunting seasons. The wildlife management teams in every state generally have most things figured out to cul much of the old wildlife, to help the youngsters grow up.

Teddie Jordan knows probably as much about the wildlife as anyone I know of, especially about deer. Dennis Hansel also knows about livestock and wildlife. There are probably others in our class out there that know a helluva lot more than I do about most everything. I do try to pay attention to things, but my big probablem is memory. MY HARD DRIVE IS FULL...

Saw Jim Taylor today...As usual I oggled and oohed and aahed over his beautiful candy apple red corvette. I'm quite sure I always ask the same questions over and over again, like, "does it have a hardtop", and he most graciously answers that it does not, as if it's the first time I have asked that question!  I'm gonna try to remember that his vette does not have a hard top next time I see it, and try not to ask that same question...again!

As much as I have loved the Corvette, I dont think we will get another one just because it sits so low. I can fall into it, and probably bang my head for the trouble, but getting out is a whole nother ballgame! I looked at Jims and its just 6 inches from the pavement. Our 85 was just as low, and just as hard to get into and out of it back 20 years ago and much more so today!

I think, once all the house situation, new and old, has fallen into place, I might find a project truck, somewhere around a 37 ford, that Diane and I can enjoy tinkerin with. She has oft said she would like to find a project car or truck to enjoy together. I woulda figured she woulda had enough of projects, having to deal with her project husband and all the project critters she has!

My youngest son, Kevin, has a 41 dodge truck he is restoring. It is so cool looking. He texted me from Anchorage, Alaska this morning. They are going flying and take aerial photos and videos today! One of his High School friends that lives there is a bush pilot, and has a seaplane business, and also a DC-3 goonie bird...

I think it's my short term memory that has taken a turn for the worst. I can even write stuff down and still not remember what I've written down, and why! I think that is just because I'm retired, and it just isnt imperative that I remember any of the unimportant stuff. Now, if I can figure out what's important, and whats not, tjhen I be ok!

Ok, guess I'll sing off for now...nap time! ! !

Hey Pat, just heard "Who needs sleep" by BNL...cute song, but so true. They sure sing it fast, and I was reading the lyrics whilst they sang! I like em. I guess Alternative rock, is sort of Folk/rock sorta stuff...

Just lost my long winded reply.  Short version- put an app on your computer for pandora radio.  List bare naked ladies as a group you want to hear and they will play similar alternative rock all day and you can see who the group is and what they are singing.

Beau, my favorite song is by Five for Fighting.  It is called "you only have 100 years to live".  Of course I hope I exit by 75, but this has been by phone ring tone for a long time.  This guy has written whole albums dedicated to our military and gives a great deal of money and publicity to returning soldiers.  His music is quieter than sleether or goo goo dolls, but it makes me think.

Our MD Anderson visit today:  Dr. Simon says the scan is as good as we could expect.  The tumor has shrunk.  There is a lot of Radiation Fibrosis (scarring) which pretty much covers the lung making it difficult to see what's left of the tumor.  At this point, doing a biopsy would be only way to confirm anything, but that's not an option right now.  The chemo and radiation are still working and have taken a toll on him, but after a few more months, those treatment effects should go away.  Charles is still anemic and still has pneumonia.  He will need to see a pulmonary specialist in McKinney to keep abreast of the pneumonia situation and possibly see a pulmonary rehab specialist to work on his airways/breathing, etc.  But, with the vocal chord procedure happening on Thursday, everything should come together with time.  Charles can get off all his pain meds, he can start driving again (YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and he can take up golf on a progressive timeline (maybe 3 holes to start).  WOW - is he happy about that!  He can get out in the sun and can get back to the lake and generally take it easy getting his strength back.  We do not have to come back to MDA until mid-December.

Your prayers, calls, cards, e-Mails, texts, Facebook messages - have supported us beyond belief.  Thank you all, family & friends (and friends of friends who have put us on your prayer groups' lists) for seeing us through this far.

Charlie & Jimmie

I read an article on Facebook about generations and it was a very good assessment.  Our group grew up believing in God and loving our country.  These things are important to us and we are willing to go to the mat for our nation.  I am proud of our classmates.  Being faced with cancer has got to be devasting, but those of you who have battled through are a testimony to all of us.  Those of you who have battled in a war are also amazing.  I pray that we are able to pass along values worth fighting for to our grandchildren.

Charles,

Great news about being able to play at least 3 holes of golf for now. Hope you birdie all three. Our prayers will continue to go out for you to be able to play 18 soon.

Amen to all you had to say, Pat!!   And just wonderful news about Charles.  As I'd said before, we all have faced challenges in some way or another.  My prayers continue for you in the loss of your daughter and others that have lost their love ones, those with health issues, those that have faced combat, those caring for their elderly parents and those just coping with life in general.  The key - we have each other and what a strong, powerful, loving group we are!

I especially thank all of you for all your love and support!  It is YOU that keeps me going.

I just posted the September Fuddrucker pictures.  Such a great evening and the joy of being back with my wonderful group was unbelievable.  Hope to see more of you in October!

Hugs,

J

Sandi I am sorry for your loss and know that you recently lost your step father too. Our prayers go out to you and your family.

Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers have just released a beautiful new duet , "You can't make old friends". It perfectly describes our classmates, our generation, and our contemporaries. Do yourself a favor and check out the song on itunes and watch the video on Google.

Good Morrow mine Waltriptexians...One more traumatic event closed...our house finally sold, and closed on it tuesday and wednesday...now one more even more traumatic event, "where we gonna live"???? Still no place to call "temp-home" yet! We have two fallback places, one in a not so great hood, and has been broken into once already, and one back down on Ebony almost to Rosslyn rd.  It is a tear down, no garage, no central air, 2 bdrms and one bath...havent seen it yet, but I hear tell, they want 1000 a month for it...

Dianes dad said we could move in with them.....NOT IN THIS LIFE! ! ! Dianes sister and husband and two brats are currently living there. All in from MOTHER RUSSIA...seriously, thats where they live, KURSK! ! ! Well, except when they come to Houston...then its "move in with the cunninghams"...

Barbara has been working like a krazy person trying to get our house sold, and trying to find a place for us to live. There are a few other possibilities that we are exploring, maybe something will turn up. I sure hope so, cause we gotta vacate the premisis by Oct 1st!

I  can tell you the stress factor is running HIGH, about DEFCON 1...Dont tell Diane I said this, but she has been in tears a few times! ! I hate seeing her that upset! And it doesnt help for her to see me stressed...hard for me to mask emotions... Gee, wish I could cry!

Speaking of crying, remember the last time you laughed so hard you cried??? I dont, remember when I last experienced that phenomenal emotion, but do remember doing it!

I remember laughing that hard at some of the old Sid Ceasar shows, and Joey Bishop etc....There is one show on the BBC, called "AS TIME GOES BY"!  I use to like 'KEEPING UP APPEARANCES", but its mostly obnoxious! Soooo, if you can LAUGH, please do...

Maybe when we are in our new house in Chappell Hill, we can all gather there and laugh our collective asses off...peg that laugh-o-meter...the laugh heard round the whirld...

Ok, gotta go do some more packing, shuckin and jivin...good news about Charles and also Jackie...I know they gotta be just worn out with all the treatments...but like other folks have said, we got you all in our thoughts and prayers...

I was thinking that when charles gets to playing golf again, that he would shoot aces...I only got one birdie when I played that silly and stressful game...it was on a par three course on witte road in spring branch, along the I-10 feeder, on the 9th hole...I dont remember how far the hole was from the tee, but I was looking into a setting sun, which of course FORCED me to keep my head down...I give er a smack, and lost site of it until I approached the hole, and thar she was, bout a foot from the hole...now for most folks, thats a gimmie! ! ! But for me, I had to test the wind, call the weather bureau, have the traffic stop on I-10, total silence..........BLOOP...right in the hole she went...almost missed it...but, thats my onliest birdie...

I finally quit playing golf, mostly for the obvious reasons, I WASNT ANY GOOD AT IT...in fact I was probably the woist golfer in the history of golf...another reason I quit, like I needed another reason, was I was reading in the Houston Chronicle, that a BLIND lady, made two, countem , TWO HOLES IN ONE, on the same round of golf...that would be TWO ACES... how do you see the ball to hit it if your blind????? I can see it, and that ball generalluy goes a couple of feet ! ! ! This lady, cant see it, and gets two holes in one! ! ! !

Oh well, life is a mystery fer shure! !! ! I have had thoughts that maybe God is Alfred Hitchcock come down from heaven to mess with us....just a thought...cause sometimes life seems like one of his mysteries...

got to go pack some more...keep the sun at your xis and ride boldly ride...

Teddie, my fishing buddy (of only 30+ years), Lynn Roesler of Needville has told me often the same thing; ‘You can’t make old friends’ true as true gets and how lucky we are if we have a few of our very own.

Saw a quote from Willie:

“I think it is just terrible and disgusting how everyone has treated Lance Armstrong, especially after what he achieved, winning seven Tour de France races while on drugs. When I was on drugs, I couldn’t even find my bike”

So for, we here at the wannderosa have received 5 inches of rain in the last couple of hours. Had ta backwash the cement pond, twice the last couple of hours...Got one more week of "pool stuff" then get paroled...went to the "hill" to meet the superintendant, to look over the building site, and the ground is just parched and cracked...this rain might orughter help some...

We need the rain, but not all at once, eh???

Oh, if you dont make it to Garden Oaks for the shredding party, there is a shredding place behind the old Garden Oaks Theater...called...er...uh...Diamond D? or D something, maybe, unless it's called something else. I took five small packing boxes full and they let me watch em shredd it on close circuit tv, and all for the nominal fee of 30 dollars...

We have a shredder, in fact two shredders, but we just cant keep up with all the shredding we need to do...found tax returns for 1983...think it's time to shredd em??? Ah reckon so! ! !

BroBeau, yipee so glad to hear you sold your house --- next step - a roof over your head!!  I have the perfect place in Oak Forest, but as I discussed with you -- I still have a tenant!  Thanks for passing the shredding info -- I have lots!

Also, has anyone heard from Burgess Webb?  We are beginning to get very worried about him, maybe he's in the hospital.  His email address bounces back "undeliverable" by many who have tried to contact him.

Teddy left a message on Burgess' cell,  but no response to date.

Please pray that he's okay.

Well, mine Waltripians...looks like this is it! We have to be out of ye olde homestead by next Tuesday. Our phone will be cut off this thursday, and turned on at the rent house. There is no DSL or uverse in the new neighborhood. There is comcast, so we might be able to set up internet with them...

     So until we get new service, " I will type no more forever" ...DID I JUST HEAR A YAAAAAAAAAA??????? Well I never.....YOU PEOPLE ! ! ! ! ! ! !

This move is one of the more stressful events to come along in a long time, AND I INVITED IT! ! ! ! Go figure...it is especially hard, when you have to make it up as you go along...plans shot all to hell and gone...this depended on that, and that depended on the other etc etc....best laid plans eh what? Plus it is just my beloved and me actually envolved in the move. Gee, I thought I had two sons that would help...silly me. Ones in Alaska and the other runnin to and fro...shoulda had me a couple O daughters...daughters are always there to help...right?

If anyone needs a refresher course in MOVING 101, "come on down"...

I'm so sad to report the passing of John Burgess Webb on August 30, 2013.

We had been concerned because he had not been on "Message Forum" for a while and Teddie Jordan and many of us tried sending him emails which were "undeliverable".  We don't have any details, but Gary Keith who had kept in contact with him over the years, was able to find his death notice.  Through correspondence between Teddie Jordan and Burgess, Teddie said Burgess had been in the hospital in April for 10 days and his heart was barely working.

Burgess had many health problems and we were all hoping he was just in the hospital.  If I find out any more information or someone else has more information, please let me know.  Thank you Gary for sending. You can go to this link to see Gary's tribute to Burgess and add yours.

May our dear classmate, Burgess, rest in peace.  God Bless you, Burge. I'm so sorry we didn't know.

Wayne, it's getting harder and harder to drag me out of these Mountains. We've already had a few 40 degree nights and the days are to live for. However my son John has moved back into the Houston area and brought his two fine body guards, Grandsons Sean and Ethan. So my motivation grows if Teddie buys the Beer I could possibly be persuaded. We'll drink a toast to old Burge. God bless you all even ol' Beavis Wann.

Peace be with you,

RIP Burge.  I didn't know you in high school but only through your Message Forum writings and occasional correspondence with me. I looked forward to reading your thoughts - though I didn't always agree with you, I did appreciate the sentiment, good will, and obvious enthusiasm.

We will do better than that Mr. Keith, we'll feed you and give you your own bedroom and free transportation. We probably will have to put a time limit of a month or so on it, but we're willing to negotiate. And don't worry about your backwoods Arkansas ways, remember I was born there. And for some strange reason Fran has always liked you. Go figure!

And yes I feel like I owe you a debt of gratitude, since you were the first person to ever try to explain the birds and the bees to me, at the ripe old age of ten or eleven, on the baseball field down at Oaks Dad's Club. Even though your theories on human reproduction and sexuality were eventually proved to be erroneous, at least you were willing to put them forth and they were definitely thought provoking!

We would all love to see you, you old rascal.
