OK, I warned you I'd be back...this will be short though...my son sent a couple of pictures to me of a "PRIDE OF COUGARS" feeding on a cow...there are 8, count em 8 cougars on the wildlife cam feeding on the carcass...this is unprecedented...cougars dont hunt in prides or ever feed together....they are NOT SOCIAL CREATURES TO ANYTHING OR EACH OTHER...somethings up...whirld warming perhaps...I sent a copy to a couple of waltrip folks...maybe they can figure out how to post the pics on the forum...they are incredible...I know, I will send a copy to Jackie, she will know how to do it...

Go Cougs...eat em up eat em up rah rah rah...

Beau do you know Leon Hale's talking mule.

I have wanted to meet the mule and

Leon Hale for many, many years.  I thought

about your tape measure problem and you

need to do what I did . You need to buy ten

or more measuring tapes and put them all

over the house and garage and no matter

where you're at you have one.

DOD, You could take the new Lufkin tape measure back to Home Depot and get a refund. Then you would have your money back and only one tape measure to keep up with. You're always saying you need to reduce your amount of "stuff". Just a thought.

Rich,

Thanks for the current pic. of Liz, she has really turned out to be an "eloquent" dog!

Yes, I've been reading in the background, just not really ready to throw myself in, I have a bunch of family issues still making the rounds, however, everyone is showing improvement.

School is two mos. away til we are out for the summer.  Our school board meets tonight, and I'm afraid we are going to lose some teachers.  Anyone out there having the same effects?

03/23/11 02:15 PM #3857

Beau Wann, Jr.

Jim, I generally do buy at least two of whatever I buy...one, because if it is a rather outstanding item, you can bet that when it wears out, and you go back to buy another, they will not make it anymore, or will have improved it to uselessness...

My Fat Boy tape didnot present itself, UNTIL I had completely ripped the package of the new tape in to smithereens...it took a pair of pliers and sissors and a knife just to get the packaging off the new tape...then, voila, old tape leaps out and smacks me in the head...

Hey Kay, glad to hear from you...HISD is really having lots of changes proposed...people are all in a dither over, "is my job safe" ...so far, Dianes job shouldnt be affected, plus she is "grandmothered" in...she has 33 years of exemplary service, plus she was teacher of the year in 95...I throw that in, because she SO DESERVES ALL THE ACCOLADES THAT CAN BE BESTOWED ON A TEACHER/EMPLOYEE...as do most teachers...I wonder if any of the teachers we had from 1st grade to 12th, well, for me 13th grade, ever receive any awards???? I nominate Mrs Simpson, and of course Mrs Kahla has a school named for her...what an honor for her, and what an honor for us to have had her for a teacher...as well as most all the teachers we had...Cant recall a bad teacher among the lot...but, when they reconcile us students, they cant say that all their pupils were good...take me, take me for example, no please, take me...preferably to lunch...

SisJackie said she will post a picture of the "cougar pride" feasting on a cow, as soon as she can turn the pic into Jpeg or whatever format is needed on the forum...Teddie gave a plausible explanation, and one that really does make since, is that it is a "mama with grown cubs and a daughter with grown , or almost grown cubs...must all be females, because a male cougar will not tolerate another male within miles, let alone eating at the same feast...rather unsocialble of them dont you think...but, whatever the reason,  it is an interesting picture...Thanks Teddie for that explanation...my fertile mind had already conjured up other scenarios and explanations, and none of them plausable, except maybe in my mind or Stephen Kings mind...

Just got back from taking the renewal CHL course at hotwells...good class to take...used a new 92F for the proficiency part...did rather well, even if I do say so myownself...they furnished lunch from Carls BBQ...pretty good fare...

oops, I hear the boys out by the cement pond...gave em a bone apiece, which they love...guess they are through, because the spokesman of the group, Cooper, is rattling the windows with his bark...see ya...

Greetings to the Pack or would that be Pride (Beau?) Which brings the questions about Rams... Get it Waltrip Rams?) anyway... do Rams herd or flock? pack or pride? maybe gaggle or gossip?

Kay, nice to see your sweet face on the Forum. We have not forgotten to add you in the prayers!!! I hope you will not be one of the teachers to get an extended vacation.

I want to weigh-in on the LIZ the LOG HAULER... watch out for your toes!!! ("Experence" is a tough teacher).

Mark your calendars as Easter April 24th in Bryan/College Station is hoppin' with preparations.  At least Central Baptist is preparing for the Easter Pageant. I am singing and a "crowd person".  They wouldn't let me be an angel or a queen... something about "purity" and that it was Esther not Easter that was about a Queen.  I told them I thought "purity" was about Christmas and the virgin Mary and they told me to be quiet and go sing with the crowd. Be "quiet" and "sing" ??? Beau, I think I need some help here.

Tickets go on sale ($8 each) this Sunday at the church. I am checking to see if they may be purchased on line (NOPE, SEE BELOW). If you are up this way it will be worth seeing. Performances: Fri, April 22nd 7:00 p.m.; Sat, April 23rd 7:00 p.m. and Sunday April 24th 4:00 p.m.

See ya''ll

P

Word from the Church: Tickets will be available here at the church beginning this Sunday.  They will sell them in the main foyer before and after church, as well as on Wednesday nights.  I believe they are also planning on having someone here during lunch hours during the week to accommodate those who do not attend church here.

Sad...just about all the folks we grew up with in the movies and on TV are gone...trying to think of someone still with us...drawing a blank...My little friend next door, Lucy our adopted 16 year old grandaughter...well, I am a people watcher...I love studying and watching folks...there was always something so familiar about Lucys face...couldnt put my finger on it...AH HA...NOW I KNOW ...she looks  identical to Liz Taylor when she played in National Velvet...really amazing...

PAIGE???? are they mistreating you in CS???? Tell em you know me, that will probably do it for you...everything should be ok then...tell em I better not have to come up there...dont make me come up there...

Hey!!!!! Me and the boys were out on dawn patrol this morn, and guess what we sawr...!!!!!! Nope, not UFOs...we sawr 3 male WOODUCKS AND 2 FEMALE WOODUCKS...the males are so beautiful...look like painted decoys...I will try to post at least one picture of them...I shifted the camer to 18 meg to get the best pictures...took about 60...now I have to sort through them to see which ones to keep...

whatcha think???? pretty huh!!!! Cole creek is a veritable wildlife sanctuary...

see the turtle in the back???? well, ok, it's late and I am tired...had a terrible day...nothing went right, nothing fit, mostly just a mindset...Dr Jekyl Mr Hyde has reared his ugly self...a mind is a terrible think, sometimes...

I finally figered out how to do this...here is the picture of the "pride" of cougars up around Brady Tx., feeding on a cow...cool huh!!!!! Teddie probably had the most plausible explanation, of a grandmother with cubs and a daughter with cubs, grown of course...must be all female, cause males WILL NOT TOLERATE ANOTHER MALE WITHING MILES OF IT'S TERRITORY...

Kay, Liz is something to behold. With those long legs and her shiny black coat she is a beauty. I think the vet is right that she's mainly a Lab/Greyhound mix. She is something to behold when she runs flat out. You can tell it is pure joy to her. I'll try to be better about posting an occasional pic of her.

Burge you're right, don't sweat the small stuff and 99% is small stuff isn't it?

DOD, you are really lucky to be able to take walks along Cole Creek. Walking in T.C. Jester Park is a delight but you get the benefit of wildlife that White Oak Bayou doesn't provide at least along Jester. I don't know if Wood Ducks are the most beautiful ducks but if not they're close to the top of the list. Nice photos.

Hasn't the weather been outstanding this week? Just a delight. Even better next week because the major league baseball season starts next week. Go Astros!

Keep on dancing,

WOW !!! Beau, those pixs are fabulous! What a treasure to not only get to see it for real, but to capture the memory (since the memory of it may be gone tomorrow...lol).

Pageant rehearsal is going better. They are letting me stand where I want and it just happens right where they told me to stand. (See, I can be obedient, sometimes). Speaking of memory, I hav to memorize ALLLLLLLL the songs! OMGosh... ya'll pray for recall.

I know why all those "cats" are there together... they were hungry. DUH!!!

The long way around and the "it's a small world"... Jimmie and Charles Brawner's nephew (I think it a nephew) George Jacobus (jacobusfive.blogspot.com)is College Minister at my church. We are going to the TAMU vs Kansas baseball Saturday and George is throwing the first pitch.  The church choir and the college choir "His Voice" often is requested to sing the National Anthem at events around our area. Saturday "His Voice" is singing. Should be fun.

Got to get to work. Have a blessed weekend.

Beau, the Wood Duck Drake is a beautiful creature and that's a great picture. I have a mount of one in my office, actually a drake and a hen that my original Lab Jameson retrieved on a memorable hunt about 20 years ago, and I get to see them every day. Along with a number of God's other great works of beauty and grace.

The mountain lion is one of the most interesting wild animals we have in Texas. When you hear them scream in the wild it sounds just like the blood curdling scream of a desperate woman in distress. I have heard it one time in South Texas, but the only time I have ever heard and then sighted one was in Montgomery County of all places, many years ago, about 10 miles north of Magnolia. It was chasing a doe right at dark, and I had to walk past the spot in the dark to get back to camp. The lion was one big cat, with a big head and a big body and a long curled tail, almost as big as the doe.  It was probably a male. You can bet that I was whistling and singing and doing my best to make sure it knew that I was not that doe. A neighbor of mine at Freer once saw one climbing an eight foot tall game fence with a Javelina in it's mouth. What I would give to see a sight like that.

Speaking of mountain lions, here's our Lab Gus, at age 7 weeks on his first trip to Freer, and at age 5 1/2 in front of the Christmas tree!

Like all of us he is aging gracefully!

Hey Jackie, thanks for posting those pics...I figured out how to do it, obviously...just right click on whatever pic you want to move to your file, then go down to the "save to pictures", and voila...thar you go...

Hey Teddie, what a handsome pup...looks like he has taken over your car and sticking his tongue out at you..."nyah nyah nyah I got your car" or woids to that defect...I've seen Gus work...so beautiful to watch...

you think those cougars scream???? you aint heard nothing...when my dog Rocky was alive, he went blind from cataracts and then glaucoma...before I could put a barrier around the pool, he fell in...in the dead of winter...couldnt talk him to the edge...he couldnt grab a pole...yup, had to jump in and save him...you could hear me scream all the way to Waltrip when I hit the drink...DAMN THAT WATER WAS COLD...reports of a cougar in the area was false...he fell in twice before I finally got the barrier around the pool...blesss his heart, that ol boy loved me and trusted me...and I him...

speakin of huntin...look at the WILD GAME MY TWO HUNTIN DOGS EXTRODINAIRE, CHASED DOWN AND SUBDUED...YEAH, LOOK CLOSE AND you will see a 'wild fighting mean turtlelupalus'
ol coop pointed him out, and then he and jack gave chase...man, it was touch and go for a spell...I couldnt tell you how fast and far they chased that ol boy, but they finally got him...as you can tell by the grin on coop...

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey, Jim Bob, what a great pup,  and I love the name, DIXIE...you picked a great name and a great pup...I guess they really pick us...
Folks say that our animals define us...how we look etc...they really define the humanity we have in our hearts...is probably more the truth...

Me n the boys been on many a patrol since last we chatted...last one, we found us a good ol genuine railroad spike...mighta been the one they laid at Promentory, Utah...the last spike to join the continent together...at least thats how I remember it...and thats how I'm gonna tell it...but really, it's a pretty neat railroad spike, as railroad spikes go...this woulda been a FINE discovery when I was a young lad...last week...

Theres just Something good about finding useful and neat stuff like a good ol genuine railroad spike...maybe I'll polish it up and bring it to Fudds and show it off...I know I'll be the envy...
I've found lots of stuff over the years...turtles, kitties, puppies, money, and once, a huge diamond, at least a million carats...well, it's a huge quartz crystal, but diamond sounds better...found a blue japanese fishing net glass float once...still have it...oh, hey, I once found a rivet out of the Golden Gate Bridge when I was in San Francisco...I still have that trophy...no wonder my house is cluttered...I'M FRED SANFORD...

I need Lynn Pruit to school me on the fine art of metal detectors...probably a treasure trove of good ol wonderful junk up at ye olde country estate...It is along the OSR (old san antonio road) or "Kings Highway" as it was called...probably the route Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett took to get to the Alamo...I'll bet they camped right under the biggest oak tree we have up there...probably left a gun or two or gold coins or other fine...stuff...up there...

Today was chili cookoff day at our little country church in the city...had the usual 35 suspects give or take...everyone said my chili was the best, but when it came to voting on it, I didnt win...???tell me how that works again...my chili was the best, but I didnt win...something wrong with that for sure...the chili that won, was really...soup...it had three different kinda beans in it, and it was made with TURKEY...hardly chili...folks sure are strange in their definition of what good chili is...

I didnt mind not winning, there was no prize, other than saying "I had the best chili"...hmmm, well thats what they said...we had to name the chili and they put a number on it...mine was "Holy Heartburn"...it gave me heartburn last night whilst I was making it...It was so thick, it coulda been classified as a giant meatball...had to add another can of tomato sauce and some beans to soften it up...I dont usually put beans in my chili but methinks it was ok this time...

hmmm, midnight...guess it's time to go to sleep...
keep the sun at your 6 and ride boldly ride...your frien and bretheren...Billy Bob Beauregard C Ephus, esq and champeen chili maker...

when i was on the brink after heart surgery,my neighbor brought me a cup of 'wendy's' chilli and for fastfood it was good,a little heavy but it has a great taste.so if you want some drive-through chilli on a cold morn, try it out.

hey paige, the couple who own the country store near my house just came back from a week in belize; they stayed on ambergris key.i told them about your quest for mexican food and they said there about 10 mexican restruants there now;you can claim inroads into a flurishing industry.there you have it sister,a pathfinder streamer flying above your "jolly-roger".

the pic is of "the poor man's" tibetan mastiff;they sell for aboout the same as an english bulldog in london.its the red one like 'big splash' that the chinese value to the toon of $1.5 mil.

La Margarita Mexican Restaurante, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize, Central America.

Thanks for thinking of me, Burge. I never thought as one to be a forerunner of anything. I hope your friends enjoyed their trip.

I believe the place is a real estate office and residence now, but I am not sure. It was the first dedicated Tex-Mex restaurant in Belize. We employed +/- 14 locals and trained them in the "Pappas" manner. Locals as well as tourist enjoyed the lazy island atmosphere along with really good food. The interior woodwork was designed using native Belizean woods in combination to lend an exotic texture to the ceilings and trims. Terracotta walls were a soothing backdrop to Saltillo floors, benches and a kiva.  Something I thought interesting in the design and building practice on the island were poured in place bathroom and kitchen counters and cabinets. After a storm the concrete structures were still standing.   I am glad there is more Tex-Mex available. It beats a "taco" with chicken feet or an "enchilada" that is a piece of chicken with catsup on top. We did not get too tied to "work". We worked the restaurant one week on and one week off and went fishing everyday !!! Those were fun and adventurous years.

Beau, if you open up the place you've got our second Tuesday business sewn up. And Fran and I would probably show up a few more times a month too. You gotta have cold beer, and wine, and iced tea, and cokes, and I love breakfast any time of the day or night. And the chili sounds good too. But you gotta do better than canned Mexican food!
