Beau Wann, Jr.

A grief of this magnitude...There are no words adequate enough to console...we look in our minds heart, trying to bring a comforting word...a consoling word...a profound thought to help you, our friend, get through this unthinkable, unimaginable, and unfathomable tragedy...we out here, your Waltrip Family, are all parents and grandparents...and the ache and break in our hearts, in no way compares to yours...but, know this, we do care, with all our hearts...with all the love and caring we can muster, we are here for you...

this Sunday, we will be praying in this chappel for you and your family, and Gods newest Angel...A light will forever be burning in the windows of our hearts for you...

Kay, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope it is of some comfort to you and your family to know that we are all thinking about you and praying for you.  I can't even imagine what it would be like to lose a grandchild.  You feel your own loss and sorrow, but it is double because you also feel the sorrow and loss of your children.  God is with you at this time and may your faith and trust in God carry you through to better days.

Our love, support and prayers continue for Kay and her family. What a wonderful and loving group you all are -- and now we need to add another to our prayer list.  Sandi Schleisinger's brother, Forrest.

  Jackie,

If you wouldn't mind, would you please post this on the Waltrip website.

My Brother, Forrest Green (Waltrip class of 1971) was injured on December 1, when he fell down some cement stairs in Galveston.

He suffered a brain injury and was in intensive care for more than 3 weeks. He is presently in a rehabilatation facility and faces mounting medical bills.

Unfortunately, he did not have health insurance and after we saw the insurmountable bills coming in from his 21 days of ICU and what the Rehabilitation place wants as far as occupational and physical therapy fees we were floored……but it is all necessary in order for him to hopefully recover to whatever capacity he can.

His two courageous daughters (only 26 and 23 years of age) that are trying to provide for their Dad (my brother) along with family and friends are having a benefit in Galveston next weekend. The girls, Kristin and Tanya are very responsible for their young years, however, they are overwhelmed with the financial end of his continuing care.

If anyone is in the area, we would love for you to join us. We will have many items to auction and raffle, in addition to barbeque plates for $8. I know for a fact that the food will be good.

I have a flyer to attach, but have no idea how to attach it to this and I don't have your personal e-mail address.

The benefit is on Saturday, January 29th at 2:00 PM at Jamaica Beach Park (Bob Smith and Jolly Roger Road in Jamaica Beach.)

RAFFLE * SILENT AUCTION * CAKE WALK * DRINKS * SNACKS

If you can't attend but wish to donate, please mail checks made out to:

Forrest Green

My dear friends, fans, and, if any remain, even foes ?,

I’m now one month out from the renal transplant. Lab reports (two per week) have been consistently good. Functions are all normal for the fist time in over 20 years. For me, the expression _new lease on life_ has a depth of meaning that I’d never considered or realized existed. I cannot wait to get back to being physically active again - although, of course, no more pre-dawn, long-distance runs, since I’m 63 with bad knees, not the 21-year-old coiled spring that I became after losing all the weight and designing my own diet and training program. That’s now for the next life, never this one again.

I must apologize for my lack of communication over about the last two weeks or so. There has been one little gnat, plus a rather large and pestiferous fly, in the proverbial ointment. Two weeks out from the 12/23 transplant surgery, I developed some localized infection along the incision, and I had to go back into the hospital for 24 hours to get that under control. That was the gnat of which I’ve spoken. The big, buzzing, biting fly was an incisional hernia that put me back in the hospital for a week for a second major surgery on top of the first one. I just got back home on Thursday night. I’m back to square-one in terms of limitations of activities and also discomfort which sometimes mushrooms into pain. Endurance for now is almost non-existent. In fact, the hernia has been more difficult in some ways than the transplant was, despite the unusual complexity of the transplant. I was going to start driving again in about two weeks, but now it’s going to be a month.

Do I still think it was worth all this? Absolutely! Would I put myself through it again, knowing what I’d face in the first month, with longer-range goals in mind? In a heartbeat! I have every intention of being at the Class of ’66 reunion this fall, and out on that dance floor, at least for the slow dances that my knees will still permit.

On a far more somber note, my 94-year-old mother has had to be admitted first to a hospital and subsequently to a rehabilitation center in northwest Harris County due to a serious skin infection and also congestive heart failure. The present prognosis is positive but guarded. Those of you who had younger siblings, cousins, friends, etc., in Garden Oaks Elementary from 1960-1991 may remember her successful three-decade career there, especially her groundbreaking efforts in gifted-talented education. Many of her former students now hold down prestigious professional posts (including numerous teaching positions at both public school and university levels), government positions, and community leadership positions throughout the Houston area, the state, and the nation, and she still remembers each of them fondly, along with the successful writers and creative artists who had her as their teacher in either fifth or sixth grade.

In sum, any/all thoughts and prayers for both of us would be deeply appreciated. All of you have been so very wonderful so far, and I know you will continue to be.

All the very best to each of you and yours,
Jack Bevil

For those who sent Gary Keith a "Happy Birthday" via the website - he cannot open and read your messages.

Per Gary -

Hey Jackie, will you pass the word for me to everyone who sent me a Birthday greeting that I can no longer open the Waltrip website on this computer. I get as far as the falling snow and it won't go anymore. Guess its time for a better system.
Thanks,
Gary

Paige Talley (Meek)

My grandson, Alex (Utah) age 17, deliberately overdosed around 2:00 a.m. this morning (after breaking up with his girlfriend). He was found and taken to the hospital. It had been too long to pump his stomach so they are waiting. He is having seizures. Tim is on his way to the hospital and will call as soon as he knows something more. I don't know where he was staying but he was not at his dad's house. Alex was supposed to be staying either with his Mom or his Aunt Debbie. Please pray...

Thanks,
Paige

Tim (daddy)
Tami (mother)
Alex
David (brother)
Cheyenne (girlfriend)

UPDATE: Alex is expected to be in ICU for at least 2 days. The 15 Bupropion Extended Release Tablets had disolved into his system during the 4 hours before he was found and must now work is's way out of his system. He is not on life support.

I am reminded of a song I heard this past weekend. It sums up my thoughts today...

BLUES IS LIKE SHOES
cMoe Ewart, Subterranean Music/SOCAN

The CD I heard is The Other Side of the Glass

As a boy I served a term as a mud puddle sailor
I had a sea of my own at the side of the road
And with a patch on my eye
I was Morgan the Pirate
And in my rubber boots
The Colossus of Rhodes

And the cars sped on by like the Spanish Armada
And the spin of their wheels sent a storm on my sea
Until one of the fleet came too close to the sidewalk
And rammed at my ship and she sunk at my feet

So I dry docked my wreck in my grandfather's kitchen
And climbed on his lap as he picked up the thread
And he mended my sails with a flash of his fingers
And then drying my tears, here's the words that he said:

"Blues is like shoes, ranging in sizes
When you're a young boy, the sizes are small
Blues is like shoes, you'll find when you're older
The shoes you have now are the nicest of all."

Only now that I'm grown, I find I'm still a sailor
But I'm up to my neck in the mud puddle now
And under fire by much more than the Spanish Armada
And they're ramming my ship and they're crashing my bow

And the worst of it is that it never stops raining
And the wheels never slow and the storms never cease
And I swear when my bones become too heavy with water
I'll sink too deep to wash up on any one's beach
But I can tell by the stars that I'm close to an island
Would mean nothing to swim but the question is how
And I can't even run to my grandfather's kitchen
'Cause the house where he lived is a parking lot now

Blues is like shoes, ranging in sizes
When you're a young boy, the sizes are small
Blues is like shoes, you'll find now you're older
The shoes you have now are the nicest of all.

Today I ran into a mud puddle sailor
He had a sea of his own at the side of the road
And with a patch on his eye
He was Morgan the Pirate
And in his rubber boots
The Colossus of Rhodes

And the cars sped on by like the Spanish Armada
And the spin of their wheels sent a storm on his sea
Until one of the fleet came too close to the sidewalk
And rammed at his ship and she sunk at his feet

So he dry docked his wreck right there in my kitchen
And climbed on my lap as I picked up the thread
And I mended his sails with a flash of my fingers
And then drying his tears, here's the words that I said:

"Blues is like shoes, ranging in sizes
When you're a young boy, the sizes are small
Blues is like shoes, you'll find when you're older
The shoes you have now are the nicest of all
Blues in the shoes of a child are the nicest of all."

Jennie Anderson '65 (Dylan)

Such sad happenings to members of our Waltrip family lately. I do hope your grandson fully recovers Paige and also receives the help he needs for processing and moving through the pain of break-ups and other maladies abundant during the teenage years.  I work with teenagers daily and most do not look forward during those periods and wrongly assume, nothing will ever get better.  My prayers for him.

Kaye, I think and pray for you and your family daily and hope your son and daughter-in-law are physically recovering from their injuries.  I pray all of you are coping with the loss of Michael as best as one can and are filled with reflection on how his life impacted all he met on his life's short journey.

Jack and Lola, overcoming illness sounds like a full time job.  I do hope you both are feeling better soon.

Paige Talley (Meek)

Jennie and all

Thank you for the prayers. Alex is not out of the woods yet. The first round of meds is historyand the "extended or time released" was expected to hit in the wee hours this morning. I have heard nothing since last evening. Being that the overdoze he took was "anti" depressant, after the initial onsllaught, he was wired to say the least. His heart was at a constant fast race. The seizures were minimal so long as he was flat and still. This was not easy to achieve. Getting food into him was difficult as well. All in all he was recognizing his family and otherwise fractured. The doctors will not even guess at possible long term effects. The present danger is heart attack and stroke.

Tim sent a picture of Alex sitting up in bed eating the cure all... chicken soup! Beau, seems as though it had no jalapeños ... how do they expect the boy to get better with NO PEPPERS!

Yesterday was my baby boy's birthday. Walt is 41. How does one sweet little baby go from 3 to 41 in such a short period of time and accomplish so much. With the bumps in the road and the blue skies above, life is full of smiles and laughter and fabulous memories. The adventures that are before us are many and will prove to be full of more smiles and laughter; tears and heartache, too.

All combined it is "joy" that fills me to the brim with "happiness" spilling out around the outside.

Thank you all for your prayers... not just for me and mine, but for each of us as we touch each others lives in the "time" that passes moment by moment and the future that is still to be savored.

Love all ya'll... PPP from right here on the prairie near the sea...

hey beau,i had to buy an adapter to download from my sony camera card.i had to use a usb port with the new computer i have.my old one had a port for that size card.they make it complicated so you need the next gimmick.i have so many different phone cords, jacks and chargers that belonged to dead electronics; really a waste for just a change of shape or size.ive had no luck with "universal" connectors or adapters.i dont know if that is your prob but i bet you can solve it.more gadgets to play with.

01/26/11 11:11 AM #3692

Beau Wann, Jr.

Burge, yes yes yes...too many gadget changes...I just bagged up no less than 10 cell phone chargers from past cell phones...of course none of them fit anything we have now...Diane has two cell phones, one for personal and one for woik...both take an entirely differently plug, as does mine...as does my mp3 player...plus car chargers are all different...seems we need a STANDARDS bureau...here's a laugh, my brother in law, COMPUTER SCIENCE PHD, was on the COMMITTEE FOR THE STANDARDIZATION OF COMPUTERS AND PERIPHERAL back in the last century. dont know which years it was...HA HA HA...didnt take em long to figure out that there's more money in chaos than in organization...

My new Canon camera, has an entirely different proprietary battery and charger...no one else has it...oh joy...but there are several ways to upload pics to computer, either remove SD card and put it in the side of the computer, or use a usb cord provided with the camera...either woiks just as easy....with the cord, you dont have to open the camera up to take the SD card out, exposing the insides to cosmic dust and other anomalies...

My truck has a usb port and rca jack, and 12v receptacles, so will accept most anything...they're getting some things right...but alas and alack, they get one side right, and the other side changes...and the beat goes on...

The problem with my computer is, I have filled it up with music and pictures...havent checked how much space left available...plus I think it is 300gig on the HD and 3 or 4 gig on the mommy board...I have a separate 1 terabyte HD and put all pics and music on it, and it hardly used any of the memory...but I am afraid to erase the pics and music on the computer because a HD can go bad...got too much time and woik invested in my music to lose it. it is all on CDs however, but still...so, gonna see if they can upgrade this one again, or just get a desktop, and either keep one for music and pics and the other for internet stuff etc...probably keep this one for internet and use the desktop for music...plus with the proper program, I can turn it into a recording studio...well, we will see what we will see...

Good luck and good prayers and cares to all going through crisis...and to all  going through life...
Temp is  50 now, so gotta get busy...finish or start to finish the deck I started sometime last year...and various and sundry projects started or just thunk about...lunch anyone????

I am so thankful for the support that is to be found here as a result of all of you. I don't get your way as often as I would like, but I cherish the hugs and prayers; laughter and tears and more laughter that comes my way via this site.

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Hi all,  it has been a busy two weeks.  I've been spending time with Todd and Cheli at the hospital.  They have been in separate rooms.  Cheli had to undergo an additional surgery because the physical therapists broke her hip trying to force her foot down during exercise, and they overdosed Todd with morphine, he coded, but they were able to bring him back with a reverse of meds.  Never really liked St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan.  But things are better, they have now been moved to the Rehabilitation center and now they are roommates.  Difficult time for all of us, as now that they are out of danger, they are dealing with their loss and we are all making plans for this Sat. funeral.  They will be ambulanced to the Anderson HS gym and to the gravesite, near where my daughter is buried.  Looks like we have all landed in the same cemetery, and will be altogether later down the line. They will be ambulanced back to the Rehab Ctr. after the ceremony to continue therapy for another week  I think, and then their home is being renovated for wheelchair ramps, baths, etc. and they will be at home together for three to six mos.

Thank you all for your daily prayers and requesting your church pray together for this wonderful family.  I have been overcome by all the wonderful people and kindness and love extended to us all and it is comforting and I know that God hears us in prayer.

Paige, Lola, Scotty, Sandy and Lindsey, so sad to hear of all the illness and sorrow that seems to plague our classmates right now.  Always thought more older people die in the winter months, do ya'll think that? Well, we mighty Waltripians must gather our Ram power and forge on....Spring will be here soon.

01/27/11 10:37 AM #3696

Beau Wann, Jr.

Moanin mine Wobblytripians,
KAY....you are a rock...thanks for the update...I find myself thinking of you and your family many times a day...as well as all others going through crisis...you mentioned older folks dying in the winter months...if truth be told, up till this last year or so, I have  loved the winter, and had always hoped that when my time comes, it would be in winter...morbid thought I suppose...well, we are all just curious humans, and ponder many things...I have loved the winter, because it seems to close in on me, without being as intrusive as another person...providing a "room" of cozyness around me, no matter how cold I am...and most everyone has retreated inside themselves trying to keep warm...they are oblivious to me...anonymous and lone, is how I liked being, that is until I was reintroduced to our Waltrip Family...

One Easter, or the day before, we were at the ranch, and building a storage/work shop...it was about 34 degrees, and most of us were in our shirt sleeves, oblivious to the cold...except for the usual hammering and nail gun noise, and of course the ringing in my ears, it was quiet...we all stopped about the same time, as we noticed the sky was falling...HUGE snowflakes, floating gently down and landing on us and the countryside...if smiles and wide eyes made noise, you could have heard them all the way to town...of course all work ceased and tools were put away as we watched the falling snow, and I might add we were all speechless...it was as if we were transformed inside one of those snowflake globes that you shake up...only we werent shaken, just stirred...then, we noticed, we were cold...

We drove to town to the Flynn Cafe/Feed/ and country store, and had lunch and just watched the snow fall...dont recollect much of a conversation, just the grins on everyones face...we had with us, a friend/worker from Brazil on a work visa...Mamed...he had never seen snow...had a devil of a time getting him to come inside...I used that excuse to stay outside with him and drink coffee...snowflakes even fell in my cup...Mamed spoke some english, but mostly his language was Portugese...such a beautiful tongue that...been promising myself to try to learn Portugese...so far I have not...just like all the other projects I have started or contemplated starting...

How beautiful the countryside looked...It snowed for a couple of days, but never accumulated very much due to the ground temp...I think Hilltop Lakes, where Karin and her Husband live, the snow built up some...

Off to Home Depot to finish another project...maybe it will be just a one tripper...
Paul Harvey..."GOOD DAY"...remember him???? use to listen to him everyday at noon, when I could...during my ironworker days...

Kay, I'm with Beau -- you are a rock ---  praying for you and your family and all our other families Paige, Lindsey, Lola, Jack, Sandi's brother, Forrest - sending out TLP - Tender Loving Prayers!

I'm back!!!!  And for many that didn't know, I had a family emergency last week and had to fly on Tuesday, January 18 to be with my daughter in Kansas after her surgery on Monday, 17.  She knew at Christmas about the surgery and  I kept insisting she needed help -- but she was VERY ADAMANT that she would be "FINE".   But you guessed it --- Monday after her surgery I got a call --- "Mom, what was I thinking?"    I'm thankful for a very understanding boss --- I had already put him on alert.

She came home Tuesday evening (Jan. 19) and my flight arrived at 8:45 p.m. --- so I stayed a week and came home yesterday evening. Just talked to her and she's gaining strength everyday - walking but slowly - hated to leave -- sure wish I could retire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to share a few stories -- when I flew out on 18th from Hobby it looked like the holidays -- the security line was backed up for miles - weaving up and down - up and down -- took about 45 minutes to get to security check.  And as you will recall my flight at Christmas nothing --- just the metal detector.  This time - body scan and pat down --- GEEEEEEE - and it took her more time to tell me what she was going to do then the actual pat down.  But made it through ---

Also on Wednesday it snowed all day and into the night --- it was beautiful - close to 6 inches!!!  Finally got to see my snow, that I was so sure I'd see at Christmas and didn't.   I'll have to post pictures later!

Hugs,

J

Wishing all who are dealing with trials and tribulations, Kay, Paige, Scotty, Lola, Lindsey, Jackie,Sandy and Jack a quick, speedy recovery and resolution to troubles. Never forget that your Waltrip Family is here thinking, praying and ready to help. Those thoughts also go out to your family members as well.

Beau I agree for folks in this part of the world snow can be cathartic but please don't pray for it this weekend. I'm attending a wedding in Fort Worth. That place is unbelievable when it gets cold because there are usually gale force winds accompanying the cold and snow.

Scotty on a lighter note, yesterday I was looking at the Food section of the Chronicle. Oops I forgot they now call it the Flavor Section. I guess they don't deal in food anymore just flavor. I guess the next time they need a change we'll get the Aroma Section. Sorry I got on a DOD rip briefly. Anyway Scotty there was a recipe in there sent in by a reader for Ada Croom's Meat Loaf. Is or was Ada any of your kin by chance?

Don't know how long it will last but wasn't the weather great today?

My sister Becky and I donated some money to Oaks Presbyterian Church in memory of our parents. The church is putting a prayer and meditation orchard on the church property. It will be filled with a variety of fruit trees. On February 5th at 9:00 they are going o start planting the trees and bushes. They got 40 of them to plant. You're all invited to come are and be there for the start or stay and help plant if you want to. it is something that we're hoping will provide a place for people to pray and meditate and provide fruit for people to enjoy for many years to come. I think the address is 1507 Chantilly. it's on the corner of Chantilly and Oak forest across the street from Black. hope you can make it!

Keep on praying for all our folks that need your support and don't forget to -

Keep on dancing,

Rich LH

Stay Calm, Carry On

Yes, all of you going through family losses, accidents and illnesses are definitely in our prayers.  We try to understand that many of these situations won't end easily or on our time schedule - there's just not a fix, except through The Lord's own plan and time.  Just know you're all being kept in God's line of communication through all of us on the same party line.

Richard, I don't know where your wedding is in Ft. Worth, but you'd better check out your driving directions because Cowtown is awash with ESPN and thousands of people working to get things set up for the Super Bowl.  Ft. Worth is making the very most of this opportunity to celebrate their city over Dallas' hype and they pretty much suceeded when they got the ESPN set up in downtown Ft. Worth - it's already up and working.  Actually, all the TV hype, etc., has started as of today - everything on TV and radio is Super Bowl." Plus, the Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo is going on until right before the Super Bowl.  Also, there are all kinds of celebs coming in and out of both towns for special parties, concerts, etc.  Just wouldn't want you to get stuck in a total traffic jam because of all that's going on.  Hope you've got a place to stay.  Enjoy!

Charles got 2 Super Bowl tickets and gave them to our son and younger daughter.  They will drive to Arlington and park at a friend's home and he'll take them as close to the stadium as he can get.  All the churches in the stadium area are closing that Sunday and charging $500/car for parking.  Sad, but smart!

WHOA Rich, better you than me going to superbowl hell...I think I'd just send the bride and groom a lovely toaster or other great gift...George Foreman grill...margarita machine that fits the receiver of the hitch on their truck...a snuggie...slapchop...ginzu knives...subscription to Popular Mechanics...you know, something good and useful...

I sawr those meatloaf recipes...mine is most best...Firehouse Meatloaf with rosemary...hmmmm so good...lots o japalenas...and cheddar...use half  ground round and half chuck...

Yes, the meditation garden will be swell...gonna go retrieve my post hole diggers from the ranch...suppose to plant 47 trees...thats a lot of holes to dig...pastor said there should be at least 47 people there...dont know where she got that number from, we cant get 40 people on a Sunday, let alone 47 for a work day...when theres rain or work, people seem to disappear...

ooooooo, I know, what if we had a chili cook off too also at the same time!!!!!! I love chili...won 1st place for best chili and 1st for hottest chili...of course mine was the onliest entry...nah, just funnin ya...musta been a couple a dozen or more entries...I dont put chocolate or cloves in my chili like some krazoids do...Don Teos serves tamales with chili that has cloves in it...NO NO NO NO NO NO NO, A THOUSAND TIMES NO...manager there swears that is the way it's suppose to be...I dont order tamales anymore there...everything else is great, except the carne guisada...

You know, ifin yall want to ever get together and have a luncheon or brunch or chili cookoff, we can have it at the church on Saturday...we have runnin water and indoor plumbin and a great wood burning stove and oven, and dishwasher and lots O space and chairs and tables...I believe I can spring for the rent...and provide the music, and TV for a slide show...whatta ya say wobblytripians...we can have Payne Hall all day...and we can go into the meditation garden and meditate, or pick whatever fruit has budded out bud...

Worked on the deck today, and youlda been proud o me...didnt drop one thing in the cement pond...although Jack was runnin around the pool chasing the Polaris and almost knocked me in...didnt finish it today, will in the AM...then gonna ride Pegasus...really get in some prayer for you good folks out there...

I will leave you with this poem by Robert Browning Hamilton;

I walked a mile with Pleasure;
   She chattered all the way,
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.

I walked a mile with Sorrow
   And ne'er a word said she;
But oh, the things I learned from her
   When Sorrow walked with me!

Ga night mine friends, ga night...

Susan Howard (Bowman)

Hey Richard - my dad built Oaks Presbyterian Church (bet you didn't know that).  My dad was Scotty Howard and he and his brothers had Howard Construction Company.  The offices were on Judiway, right behind Waltrip.  My dad built churches all over south Texas.  He was so honest that many times he didn't have to bid on a church, they just awarded it to him because of his reputation.  He's been dead 16 years and I still miss him! He did a lot of good in his life.  He always gave something back to the churches he built - pews, baptistry, something.  And he loved Presbyterian ministers - said they were the easiest to work with.

Just want you to know that all of you that have had sorrow, illness, family stress - whatever, that as I have been reading the forum I have said a little prayer for each of you.  And Beau, I love your poem.  It is so true!

If you want to see snow go to my profile - I posted a couple of pictures along with some recent pictures of my granddaughters and my daughter.  We are 15 inches above normal, with February still to go.  I guess I should be thankful - at least I don't live in New York.  My husband and I will be down March 2 - 8 to look at Sun City.  Actually I've been there, he hasn't.  I hope he likes it as much as I do!!

Take care everyone and stay warm!
