Planned to visit Keith last week but was told the staff had 2 positive Covid cases and since nursing facilities are notorious for being large scale petri dishes, I have not gone and have not received any news from his siblings either.
Experiencing Covid fatigue – this crap was not in my retirement plans………..
Back in South Texas since Jan 4th and have nearly thawed out now – we went on a ½ mile walking tour of Christmas lights at the Minneapolis arboretum Jan 2 night with a low ambient temp of – 20 F without wind chill! It was a brisk walk followed by hot adult drinks…………
Like many others in our age group, I’ve been keep’in busy myself ticking the boxes on my ‘ist list’……….dentist, dermatologist, cardiologist, orthopedist, ophthalmologist, pharmacist……….
Been watch’in way too much TV, especially news and google’n things I don’t understand which is an enormous array of useless info and I will share one of my profound findings below:
Thomas Jefferson once said something like, “My great grandfather was a warrior so my grandfather could be a farmer so that my father could be a merchant so that I could be a scholar”.
Tom Brokaw appropriately referred to our parents’, as ‘the Greatest Generation’ and I have called our Waltrip64 generation, born immediately after the end of WW2 as ‘the luckiest generation’ cause we have enjoyed a downhill economy here in the USA, especially those of us growing up in suburban Houston TX into WASP, two parent families, resulting in many of us now driving Mercedes, Lexus and some even, Corvettes (Lynn, Larry, others?).
However, there may be Camels on the Horizon for future generations……
‘The founder of Dubai, Sheik Rashid, was asked about the future of his country, and he replied, "My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I ride a Mercedes, my son rides a Land Rover, and my grandson is going to ride in a Land Rover…but my great-grandson is going to have to ride a camel again. “Why is that, he was asked?
And his reply was, “Hard times create strong men, strong men create easy times. Easy times create weak men, weak men create difficult times.’ Note: For accuracy this US based history lesson, insert ‘women’ for men.
Many may not agree, but we need to raise warriors, not parasites.
And add to that the historical reality that all great empires, the Persians, Trojans, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and in recent years, the British...all rose and perished within 240 years.
They were not conquered by external enemies; they rotted from within.
America has now passed that 240-year mark, and the rot is starting to be visible and is accelerating. We are past the Mercedes and Land Rover Years….the camels are on the horizon. The greatest generation consisted of 18-year-old kids storming the beaches at “Normandy”. And now, two generations later, some 18-year-old kids want to hide in safe rooms when they hear words on Facebook or Instagram that hurt their feelings. They also want free stuff from the government because they think they are entitled to it.
The ‘camels are on the horizon’ for sure…
From Aransas where the wind is howl’n out of the North at 25-40 mph, so brewing up a batch of my own recipe of vegetable soup and sweet cornbread probably adding a few more Covid lbms, wtl
