Beau Wann, Jr.

Hi Marcie ! ! !   So glad to hear from you.   Has anyone heard from Scotty?  Susan Bowman?   I payer that all are doing well.

Just had my 7th radiation treatment, and then a trip down to the Med center to visit with my primary cancer nerosergery Doc.   He is astounded at my progress and how well I'm doing.  "It would kill a lesser man" said he! My last radiation treatment is April 1st, then 3 weeks off, then MRI, then I get to start on a year of chemo, oh joy!

You know, the first doc that came to see me then all this started, before my first brain sergery, aske me what I wanted to do about the tumors.   I said "what"? I want to fight"  say I.     He said, "well, you have more birthdas behind you than you have in front of you...some folks might just like to just nature take it's course...".

Now I think I understand.  Am I taking up the space for some youngster, well, I am almost 76, three quarters of a centery, and some better folks didnt get to stay around that long.  Been a hard road so far, and it's going to get harder before it gets easier.

I enjoy life, but have I done the right thing?   Oh sure, they get to study a cancer that they've never seen before, and is a good chance it could save a younger somebodys life...Hmmmm,  thought prvoking! ! !

Well, I'd at least like to hang around for one more "Party On The Hill", say some where around the year 9595..."if man is still alive, if woman can survive..."  (never liked that song, yet it still keeps popping up in brain)

OH Well, it's not in my hands, belongs to God...and I'm vevery glad it does.   Just saying...!!!

Shhh, dont let this get out, but Marcie, you've beeen my secreat love since before the Titanic went down.   Yup!

Time to dispalne boss...Keep the sun at your xis and "ride boldy ride..."

Your frien and resident frankinbrain, Cephures R Blessed esq

PS:  A slogan from my USN airdale days.."when in danger and in doubt, run in circles scream and shout" .

GO old friend's since Oak Forest Elementary, Scotty and Beau! My mom walked me over to sweet little Scotty on my second day of Kindegarten, and said now this looks like a nice boy! He and I have had many good and memorable times. Same for Harold, uh Beau, aka Cephus over the last sixty five or so years. Cephus and I actually even shared our grocery store careers and our first semester of college together up in a Huntsville. I could actually write a book on that one semester, let's just say that every night was an adventure! It turned out to be the only traditional college experience for me as I ended up going the rest of the way at U of H at night while working full time for Hudson Engineering Corp. in the daytime. What I learned at Hudson about heat exchangers definitely made me a lot more money in my career than what I learned at night, but they both were great blessings and each opened many doors for Fran and I! 😁 ☺️

Beau, the one you mentioned was the location of Hudson-McDermott, the engineering, oil and gas plant and offshore arm. I worked for the air cooled heat exchanger arm of Hudson. At that time our offices and shop were at SW freeway, 59, at Hillcroft.

I started as mail boy and some people called me boy. About 6 months later I moved up to blueprint boy. I started noticing that the Draftsmen all seemed to have nice clothes and cars and I heard them talking about owning homes. So I asked one man how I could get into drafting. He asked, did you take drafting in high school? I said no I took woodshop and metal shop. He said so that means you need to lie and say that you took drafting. So I did and got a start as drafting trainee. I could always print good and that helped me and was important.

Praying for Ricky and family.  I remember his older brother Larry.  We lived near them until I was about eight.  We rode our bikes to school and every block more people joined until we got to school.  Their group joined on Apollo.
Teddy and Bo - McDermott International is on Memorial at Eldridge.

they were shacks, not temporary buildings.  When someone gave directions they called them the shacks.  Ms. Mullinex was quite a character.  My favorite teacher in the shacks was Mrs. Miller.  She was 4th grade.  Ms. Mullinex liked to take boys to her farm or country home and get them to work for a weekend.  Free labor.  Can you imagine that happening now?  I questioned whether she just wanted to watch them.  I thokught she had a crush on Kenneth Tatum.  Mrs Miller left the room and told us to complete an assignment while she was gone.  Lots of kids started goofing off.  She came back and said 'show me your work'. Everyone who had not done it was lined up behind the blackboard and given swats.  The girls had to drop their petticoats and then pull them back up.  Those of us in the front just saw petticoats dropping and heard swats.  Sweet Donna Webb got swatted.  I always thought of Donna as being perfect. I didn't do the work because I thought we would get in trouble.  I did it because I wanted to please Mrs. Miller.  I just loved her.

Teddy, whose kindergarten class were you and Scotty in?  I haven't been able to look at my pictures yet to see if you were in Mrs. Lacrone's class.

I am off Facebook now. I heard about all their mind games tht can make you do things that you don't want to do! how is that even possible? Anyway I will try and check in to the RAMPAGE more often. Happy and healthy! After the Big Freeze I got a head start on some weight loss. Soret of like a late New Years resolution. I think the secret is if I sit around 10 hours a day binge watchin movies, I probably do not need to eat as much as I did back when I was back in my Waltrip days. Duh? We are eady to do some traveling after the past year isolation. Ferrell has always wanted to go to the Finger Lakes District of New York. Maybe this summer. I continue to do repair work for classical guitar students here in Austin.

Beau,  the website was having some problems earlier and maybe that is what caused your problems.  It seems to be working for me right now.  Let me know if you continue to have issues.   I hope all goes well with your radiation treatment.  Be sure to give your driver a big tip.

Beau, Mrs Miller was 4th grade, then Mrs Simpson 5th grade and Ms. Mullinex 6th grade.  Mrs Simpson then went with us over to Black.  Her daughter Suzanne was a friend when I was older.  She said that her mother left it all on the field.  She was such a dedicated teacher that when she came home she had nothing to give.  I would bet using improper English would cause her to take notice.

has anyone heard from Ricky Strickland?  I just wonder if he is okay.  We don't have a current directory for each other do we?

Beverly Hengst (Allen)

Pat, I also had Miss Miller for 4th grade and Mrs. Simpson for 5th, but don't tell Beau!   I had Mr. Carlisle for part of the 6th grade until he got ill.  I remember Miss Miller leaving the classroom fairly often.  One time, I needed to use the restroom and decided I could go and be back before she was.  When I went into the restroom, she was in one of the stalls and was smoking.  I quickly retreated and got back to class.

You can go to Ricky's profile page and leave him a message.  That will generate an email to him.

Beau, you seem to be doing amazing.  I haven't had brain surgery (probably someone's oversight) and I can't remember half of what you remember about anything, much less, elementary school.  I went to Cooley Elementary and loved it.  Of course, I remember Lindy, Sharron and Sweetie because we were such good friends. I remember Wayne Lake because he was like another brother and an extension of our family. I remember the principal (Mr. Anderson) and a couple of teachers and that's about the extent of it. Glad you're feeling well enough to keep us all entertained.

Ferrell and i decided to go out and celebrate no mask mandate/business open as usual by going to our favorite bakery, "Upper Crust" for coffee and cinnamon rolls this morning. Well woudn't you know it , they were not quite ready to go back to pre pandemic ways. I know, you are thinking, a guy who needs to lose a few pounds should not be indulging in cinnamon rolls for brakfast, but it was a beautiful morning and we have been good for so long, and after all we deserved it. The bakery lined up the products along the front window. Then when you had made a slection, you opened the front door. The entry was converted into what looked like the ticket booth at the Garden Oaks theater compleate with a little microphone for the server and a small slot to slide your money into. We sat on along red bench and in a few minutes a abker brought ou the order.

Next, we adjourned to the al fresco dining room to enjoy all the extra calories. There were a few bike riders sitting at the picnic tables but we maintained our social distance. Many people were out walking their dogs. A nearby church carrilion rang the Westminster cadence for the hour. I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel! Hope everyone is almost back to normal.

Beau, I am glad you figured out what the problem was.  Computers can be tricky and frustrating.  Thanks for letting me know.  Hope your treatment went well today.  Rest up this weekend for more next week.  You have many prayer warriors out there praying for a successful outcome.   Your head nurse is also in our prayers.

Bennie Schielack

Mrs Macquinney (spelling?) lived across the street from us and 2 houses West.  She taugh early grade school (don't know exact class).  He husband was a travel writer for the Houston Post.  She had a daughter (don't remember her name) and a son, Shaun or Sean.  Their yard was planted full with undergrowth her hubby picked up during his travels.  Had a large piece of obsidian I was obsessed with.  Very little grass in yard, but I also remember they had a banana plant next the the back side of the house.  Very interesting to me, Sean took off after high school and went to New York.  Only saw him once, a few years later.  Just a tid bit of Oak Forest History . . . . .

I don't remember Mrs. McQueeny.  We had several banana trees in our back yard along with a giant fig tree.  Our rose bushes lined the fences.  Daddy was a nut for gardening.  Mother enjoyed it sometimes, but all I was allowed to do was pick up dog doo.  Our banana tree grew fruit but it never ripened.  Mother would bring them in and we would watch them but they tasted terrible even when yellow.  The figs were good.  My youngest granddaughter has me answering one question every week about my childhood.  At the end of the year this company that is collecting the answers will give her a bound book so she has a record of my childhood.  My husband is supposed to be doing it too, but he doesn't type.  He thinks he still has staff.  Silly man.  Hope he catches up soon.  Should have taken typing in high school.  They still teach keyboarding, but few teach woodworking and I don't think any teach mechanics.  I think you have to have a computer for everything except how much gas you have in the tank.

I think the name that Bennie referred to is Mewhinney. Hubert Mewhinney was a newspaper man that worked with Ferrell's Dad at the Post.
