Beau Wann, Jr.

Good morning chilly hilly...I was disappointed to wake up to cloudy skies, yet again! Of course waking up is a good thing, but I did have my heart set on some sun, son!  The weather app on my smartalecky phone last night SAID it would be sunny all day. Not only that, last time the dogs went out last night, there were stars and a full "worm" moon just a grinnin at me....my heart was singing "and the skies are not cloudy all day...".

Dont rightly know why the full moon is called a "worm" moon this month, maybe the worms come out and dance or something. If I thought for one moment that they had anything to do with it being cloudy today, well, I just wont like them anymore...not that I ever really liked them in the first place, just saying!

I still remember that big ol woim I dissected in biology, either at Black, Or Waltrip, or at Sam, cant remember, but I didnt like dissecting anything cept maybe a cheesburger and fries and vanilla malt, and a couple O twinkies and hosstess cupcakes. It took the longest time to get the formaldehyde smell out of my nose and brain, like about 30 years.

Well, maybe good ol sol will come a calling today sometime. Probably around the time it sets! But, any sun is better than no sun eh son!     It was a chilly 46 again this mornin! Hey Kay, didnt I tell you not to put away that eclectric blanket and fuzzy pink slippers and winter bathrobe?  I knew old man winter was going to wheeze our direction again, still might again before Easter.

I keep asking Diane whether Easter is early this year or late, as it does have a bearing on the weather. And like always, I forget what she says. So I'll ask her yet again!  She knows all the days of the Christian calendar.

Easter is on the 16th of April this year, and I think that is late, maybe!    Spring, howsomever, is supposedly on the 20th of March!   I have moved spring up to the 18th, day of the party, with special dispensation from the head monk  and mother superior, up here at the our lady of Chappell Hill monastery, brother Jack and sister Dixie Belle respectively.  SO, spring will be sprung on the morn of March 18th starting at 4 AM, because that's the time  brother Grumpy, me, arises!

Dang, coffee got cold, yet again...hold on, I'll be back...(that was my best Terminator accent. good huh?)
My father-in-lawr was a pharmacist, and he always said that he drank coffee cold and cold drinks warm due to the nature of his bidness. I dont like hot drinks cold or cold drinks hot, no no no!  That's one of the reasons I dont drink but one or two beers a year. I guzzle whatever I'm drinking, because I'm thirsty, not because of any properties the drink may have. If it's beer, I go to sleep soon after I finish my first bottle, and maybe half into the next one.

Once asked "what kind of beer do you drink", best reply, "COLD".  I like a beer when it is first pulled out of the ice and water of an Igloo cooler, pop the top, and drink it all down. Cant stand warm beer, or beer above freezing. So, if you see me drinking a beer on Saturday, look for me to fall asleep soon after.

That's what us old me do best, fall asleep in the chair watching TV, or reading the paper, if you can get one, or a book!  That's one thing I am so glad of, is not really liking TV, or at least what's on it. Not a whole lot on it of much substance like "Pupppy poopin in the house" ? "Want better erections"? "Get that Brazilian butt excersize"....

For one, Our pups dont poop in the house, and never have, and as for the 2nd one, well, you gets what you can, and as far as a brazilian butt, I'm not sure what that means!  If said butt came with a mop and a broom and did windows, then it's a brazilian butt for me for sure. Who watches that stuff? No me!
I have watched the cooking shows, you know, Pioneer woman, Trisha Yearwood Brooks, Beat Bobby Flay, Gaida...with all the great cooking Gaida does, how does she stay so thin?

I havent really learned anything from the cooking shows, except I that I dont know how to cook!  I have learned a few names of things, which of course I cant remember what they are now...oh, marscapone, that's one of the names!    But  I thought they were talking about Al Capones sister.  Lots of names that they never explained exactly what it was they were making!   One of the other things I've gotten from the cooking shows, THEY MAKE ME HUNGRY...!!!

I do like to watch the KIDS baking shows. Those are fun. Some of these kids are just 8 years old, and can already whip up a 7 course dinner you could serve in a 5 star restaurant.  The host would ask them how long they've been cooking, and their reply, "since I was a kid"....Well, that's how long I've been EATING. Or, one of the hosts asked how old each child was, and one of them said "8 and three quarters"....I remember as a kid we would always say "8 and a half" , so we would appear to be more grownup.....I guess I'm 71 and 3 quarters, but really would rather be between 4 to 10 years old...ah the golden years!

I know I've said I dont like TV, or watch it that much, but when you get here on Saturday, we have 6 TVs, and one of them the size of the one at the Dome.  6 TVs?  Yup. Well, once I've updated, or upgraded, it's so hard for me to get rid of anything that still is useful, even if it does just sit on a shelf, "I could use it if I wanted to"....

I'm just ramblin arent I?  Well, you ever know me to do anything other than ramble? I think not!   Been up since 4, fed the pride and the pack. Pack's been out doing their bidness, prides been in the litterboxs stinkin up the joint, now all's quiet and everyone has gone back to bed, cept me, ol Grumpy!  So in lieu of carrying on a conversation with anyone here, all yall are elected, so pay attention, there will be a test !

Ok, time sign off, seems the pride and pack are up, and even her ladyship Diane is stirring around. I'm already on my 2nd pot of coffee...

keep the sun at your six and ride boldly ride...

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Whoa, Beau, you are really making us all hungry.  I was engaged once, not too long ago, to a guy who used to say, I needed "direction", and he was right  I am a sidelines type of person.  But I will bring 3 bottles of wine, some paper, forks, napkins, etc. and some mouth stuffin condiments....we could all pig out on all the wonderful things we are bringing.  Has anyone ever enjoyed jalepeno stuffed deviled eggs.....used to make them for the golf lovin people to go with the wine and fellowship.

By the way, I found my direction.....out!

Looking on KBTX weather, it should be the bestest, most beautiful day on Saturday.

03/15/17 08:12 AM #8482

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hay Kay, say, you are too funny.  I love deviled aigs, never had em with japalenas, me thinks. as long as you dont put salmon in them. ug and yuk. Yes, bring all the aforemntionedksjoie stugf...dang, fingers faltered.
I love japalenas! I know, that's not how you spell it, I'm just a rebeling rebel!

Nice direction, out !  Been out a few times, of course I had to be in to go out!  Sometimes one is good and one isnt!

I can put a chair or chairs out in the middle of the hill and folks can sit and chat and drink and pick a direction they would like to go. Although yesterday I did see some buzzards in the middle of the hill and one rose up with a pretty good size snake in it's beak.  We dont see a lot of snakes, but they are out there. I have the vegetation cut short so they cant sneak up on us.

Also, if anyone would like to sit with the dogs, you are welcome to do that. But be forwarned, they will love you to pieces. Jack doesnt jump on you, or jump period, being the old man that he is. Her highness Princess Dixie Belle Lee will jump on you. Just put your knee out gently and or push her down with your hands and say "NO", or "down".  She generally wont do it twice, she is just so excited to see us, or anyone for that matter. I know most of yall know how to handle aminals anyway.  They do not bite! Or havent yet !  Of course there's always that, "why that dogs never done that before"...

The cats on the other hand, well they're best left alone.  They've become eccentric and cantankerous in their old age. They will have the run of our room and the screened in porch, out of harms way and out of harming anyone!

Been woikin like a madman trying to make this party come together, and think we've just about got it, sort of. Did a lot of mowing and eedweetin yesterday. I didnt mow down at the creek because of the bluebonnets and wildflowers, so when you drive up, it going to sort of look raggedy, but this is the country so that's ok. At least it will be green, and just in time for  St. Patricks day awhat!

Also, the creek area has a lot of Austrian Winter Peas starting to bloom. I planted those for erosion control, and man do they woik. I'm sure they will die off oncet the heat heats up. You will also notice the creek is wide! Believe it or not, before we moved in it wasnt. It was a fourth the size it is now. The spring storms for the last two years have really been disastrous and wreaked havoc with the countryside.

About ice! My exxon station on 290, coming from houston, just before descending into the Brazos Valley, went up on their ice. It is now 1.99. So I am going to make a couple of Ice runs to Bucees probably Friday. theirs is still .99 cents for a 20 pound bag. I'm thinking we will have enough, and if not, there's places in town to buy some.   And if we run out of food, we shouldnt, but if we should, there's a burger king in Chappell Hill proper.  I just know yall are a hankerin for some BK food!

Ok, time to go. Got an ear doc appt this morn. You know, if it were'nt for the doctor appointments, we wouldnt have anywhere to go. I know a lot of you have and are  now experiencing that particular fun these days.

Oh, got gnu glasses !  I had no idea I was that blind, or blurry seeing. WOW, everything is now in HD.
"The deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball..."  Nah, I'm deaf dumb and blind, but never could play pinball, or any game with much success...

   So there you go...

03/15/17 08:41 AM #8483

Beau Wann, Jr.

Yup, that's the whole idear of this party, and all getogethers, FELLOWSHIP...YUP...

For those of you that like a lot of the old classic things we use to buy as kids, kandy and whatnot, one of the best sites is vermont country store. I get emails from them daily. A really neat website. they are offering Easter items now.  Dont know if the kids today would enjoy any of the things we use to love, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

    so there you are....

Beau Wann, Jr.

    Good eefenink myne fyne waltripynes...

DIRECTIONS TO THE THRILLA ON THE HILLA...

cOMING FROM HOUSTON HEADING WEST

TAKE 290 WEST...FROM HEMPSTEAD

STAY ON 290, AND ONCE YOU GET TO THE BRAZOS RIVER, OUR ROAD WILL BE 2 MILES EXACTLY ON THE RIGHT.  FIRST LANDMARK TO LOOK FOR, IS CHAPPELL HILL SAUSAGE FACTORY ON THE RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE HILL AFTER YOU CROSS THE BRAZOS RIVER.

290 CURVES TO THE LEFT SLIGHTLY, AND THEN YOU START YOUR DESCENT INTO OUR VALLEY. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ALREADY IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE.

THERE IS A SHORT BILLBOARD THAT SAYS CHAPPELL HILL, ON THE RIGHT

THEN AFTER THAT, THERE IS A SIGN THAT SAYS LAVENDER FARM...

ALSO AFTER THE LAVENDER FARM SIGN, THERE WILL BE A HOT PINK SIGN WITH TWO BLACK ARROWS POINTING RIGHT AND WALTRIP PRINTED TWICE AND A TURN RIGHT HERE PRINTED ON IT...

BY THE TIME YOU SEE THE LAVENDER FARM SIGN YOU SHOULD START TO MOVE OVER TO THE SHOULDER ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE....BEAR IN MIND THAT THE SPEED LIMIT IS 70 MPH, SO FOLKS WILL BE GOING VERY FAST....

AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL THERE IS A STREET SIGN ON THE RIGHT THAT SAYS

MARSHALL LN OR RD...THAT IS THE TURN YOU WANT, SO TURN RIGHT. IT IS A DIRT ROAD AND BUMPY SO DRIVE SLOW.

TURN RIGHT AND WE ARE .4 TENTHS OF A MILE ON THE LEFT

THERE WILL BE AN IRON GATE AND YOU WILL SEE A TEXAS FLAG AND A US FLAG, TURN LEFT THERE AND COME ON UP THE HILL.

THE PARKING WILL BE AS PREVIOUSLY LAID OUT. I WILL TRY TO GREET EVERYONE AND SHOW YOU WHERE TO PARK.  VALET PARKING IS VERY EXPENSIVE UP HERE

NOW THOSE FOLKS COMING FROM THE AUSTIN DIRECTION ON 290 EASTBOUND,

YOU WILL PASS THROUGH BRENHAM, AND THEN ABOUT 8 MILES, YOU WILL COME TO A FOUR WAY STOP LIGHT THAT IS CHAPPELL HILL. OUR ROAD IS 2.2 MILES FROM THE FOUR WAY STOPLIGHT, AND ON THE LEFT.

WHEN YOU PASS THE LIGHT, YOU WILL GO DOWN INTO THE FIRST VALLEY, THEN UP THE HILL AND DOWN INTO THE 2ND VALLEY, THEN UP THAT HILL STILL ON 290,

WHEN YOU TOP THE THIRD HILL, YOU NEED TO BE IN THE LEFT HAND LANE.

THEN YOU DESCEND INTO THE THIRD VALLEY. ONCE YOU START DOWN THE HILL, PUT YOUR BLINKER ON AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

ON THE WAY DOWN, THERE WILL BE ONE SIGN ON MEDIAN ON THE LEFT THAT IS HOT PINK WITH TWO BLACK ARROWS AND WALTRIP PRINTED TWICE AND TURN LEFT ON IT.

ON THE LEFT BEFORE YOU GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL,  IS RUSTIC FURNITURE STORE, LOTS OF YARD ART AND A BIG GIRAFFE....OUR YELLOW FARMHOUSE IS DIRECTLY BEHIND IT ABOUT A HALF MILE. YOU CAN SEE IT FROM 290.

AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL IS A LEFT TURN LANE, GET IN IT, BUT SLOW DOWN.  THAT IS THE TURN OFF TO OUR PLACE. IT IS MARSHALL LN.  REMEMBER IT IS 70 MPH, AND YOU WILL BE IN THE LEFT LANE, THE FAST LANE,

If you get lost, call us at 713-560-0673  or 713-560-0676

so there you go....

03/15/17 10:10 PM #8485

Beau Wann, Jr.

Just thought I'd give yall a little teaser. As you will no doubt notice, there is a horseshoe pit in center field.  Since it is illegal and against the law to hit to center field, the center fielder has little to do, so I had the grounds crew put the horseshoe pit in.     Normally the pins are 40 feet apart.  I can bearly get it 30 feet, let alone 40 feet. But, the rule book states that 30 feet is acceptable for old people like you all...if you think I'm making this up, I have the rule book, plus you can look it up on line...

We are really getting excited about Saturday.

so there you are...

It was a totally fun and enjoyable event. The perfect setting, the perfect time of year, and the perfect group of friends. Fran and I feel so fortunate to be a part of this loving and laughing group of great people.

Sincere thanks to Beau and Diane for your considerable efforts and plain old hard work, and for your warm hospitality, and for sharing your beautiful place with us.

And thanks to everyone who brought the delicious food. To whoever brought the fruit salad with coconut in it, Heavenly. I will never be hungry again!

What a great day!  I enjoyed seeing everyone and ALL the FOOD!  Thanks Beau and Diane for being such wonderful hosts.  Thanks also to all who made the effort to come and bring food and drink to share.

03/18/17 09:45 PM #8494

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Of course I wanted to add how enjoyable the day was for all of us.  I know it took a lot of work.  I for one, am so appreciative and I want to thank Cooper for making this all possible....lol.  Catching up with old friends and laughing with new ones....Schroeder, you know who you are!  My neighbors in Navasota Robert Derrick, just wish Tony Maddox had been able to come up.

I really hope that Beau and Diane's place becomes the new gathering as I for one do not really enjoy traveling those Houston highways.  Not to put them on the spot or anything.  The guys were real winners on the baseball field, do not envy the pain to come though. What a great great group of people.

Memories have been made.

And, I do not want to forget all those who helped with the set up and tear down ! Thanks for making a special day for the rest of us. Till the next time...............

03/19/17 08:05 AM #8497

Beau Wann, Jr.

Thank you all for the "thanks", it was a labor of love.  And thank you for sharing our place. If we cant share what we have then what's the point, especially with the ones we love. I cant remember when I've had that much fun, what a day! ! ! What a wonderful day! ! !  Even after all the work yesterday, Diane was positively glowing. She keeps saying what a wonderful class of friends you all are. I'll second that emotion. Here's a couple more pics.

03/19/17 08:36 AM #8498

Beau Wann, Jr.

Also too, we'd like to acknowledge and thank those that helped set up and helped clean up afterwords. Teddie J and Jimmy H came friday and was a huge help setting up things. Couldnt have done it without them.
Also the day of, Tom Gann was the early bird, and my wife put him to work immediately, climbing up a ladder taking things down from a shelf. Johnny sheffield for picking up the brisket and doing odd jobs around during the party, and taking the lids off the sterno cans and getting them lit.

Thanks to Jimmie Lee and Jenny "the babe" Taylor for helping to organize things. Jimmie lee brough two dishes of BANANANANANA PUDDING ! ! ! Only one got eaten. Hows this for graciousness, she left the other full dish with us so I'd have something to enjoy whilst recovering from surgery.  Those that didnt have any of her BP surely missed out on a deeeelicious deeessert!

And thank you to everyone that brought food. I tasted each and every dish, just to make sure it hadnt been poisoned by some rival football team like "Temple". Thanks Tom Gann for the story of that football game!
My body hurts enough, although after Tom told us what that particular game was like, if I'd been playing, I'd probably been kilt !  Temple was just a bunch of cheaters!

We wound up having the softball game, and Jenny "the babe" (as in Babe Ruth) Taylor got several hits and scored a dozen runs. Johnny S hit the ball out of the park, down to the creek and that ball is still floating down stream.  I think the score was tied at the end.

Richard and Paige (Talley) Meek came late and stayed late. Paige pitched in and helped Diane clean and put things away. I fell asleep on the couch in the "party hall"....If I've missed anyone elses efforts, forgive me, for I am old!     Everyone helped pick up afterwards, and I mean everyone.

We loaded Jenny up with food to take to the food pantry in conroe. Her car was struggling under the weight. Now, isnt that like Jenny and folks from our class, always thinking of others.

Everyone was so gracious, thank you!

Johnny Sheffield

Beau and Diane

what can we say , I believe that was the best time I have ever had.

even if Iam sore today, hope the boys on the softball team or okey today.

of course we were out done by the girls.  They were able to walk and run off the field

while we limp off.  Coopers field brought back memories when we all played ball as kids.

Thanks to cooper.

hope everyone made it home safely.

With all our help, I know we can pull this off again.

Johnny

03/19/17 09:54 AM #8500

Beau Wann, Jr.

Johnny, you are so right, I cant remember when I've had a better time. Whenever I'm hurting, or feeling low, I will remember back to this day and that should make my old heart smile.  It was only because of  all of you that were there that it was a success. Believe it or not, we tried to sleep in, or go back to bed, after feeding the livestock, but we are still "high" from the party. Diane even said she wants to do it again, TODAY, so yall come on back. dont bring food, we still have a plethora of.

There is still lots to do to clean up, and usually I'd be dreading it, but believe it or no, I'm fine with it. I really cant wait to get out to the "party hall", where all our friends were just a few hours ago, and soak up the spirit of your wonderful presence. Wow, cant recollect when I've felt like this.

I'm thinking like Johnny and Diane, lets do it again.  This party, was just the "test" party. Now we know what to do and what not to do.   Next time, no one needs to bring any food. We will have it catered. Jenny, the slugger, gave me a good idear. She said her grandaughter wanted to have FOOD TRUCKS cater her wedding. My son Billy had two food trucks cater his daughters wedding, at her request!  Seems that is all the rage these days.

The food trucks are not like the "Regal Coaches" also known as "Roach Coach", where you got a sandwich in a triangle plastic box, that consisted of  two pieces of bread, somekind of meat and a slice of pickle, a bag of chips and a coke. The trucks today are generally owned and operated by genuine trained chefs, and the food is most excellent, at least 5 ***** quality.

I guess we're just silly, but because of you, we want to do this again and again.  I'm thinking of buying a new place, bigger place, building a hotel on it, and we can party the whole weekend. I will also have first class kennels with trained techs so youse youtes can bring your beloved pets. There will be a vet on standby just incase of whatever happens.  Yeah, that's the ticket....a fellow can dream cant he?   I guess because of you, you make me want to be better. Corny, yeah, but true.

Ok, Johnny, I've already started planning for the next shindig, hootnanny, hullabaloo....

   So there you go...

Post Script:  I really wanted breakfast this morning, but didnt want to cook, because the kitchen still needs work cleaning up! What to do, what to do!   Low and behold, someone, and bless their hearts, someone brought two packs of kolaches and left them.  They were wonderful with coffee this morning. I dont know who brought them, but they must  have thought ahead to our breakfast. Thank you again a zillion times, to all that participated and worked to make this a success....
