Leron and I really enjoyed getting together to visit with everyone at Fudd's Tuesday however we took the Grand Parkway, big mistake!  The traffic was horrid but we live in a town with  population of 634 so we are not used to Houston traffic.  Next time we will leave extra early and shop close to wherever the meeting place is taking place.  That should save wear and tear on our nerves.

Hey Scotty, yes it is the same place you and I and ????? ate lunch.   They have a banquet type room that we can reserve for 3 hours...after the 3 hours, I dont guess they would kick us out as long as we're spending money....they have beah and wine, and good food....they also have Blue Bell Ice cream and peach cobler, plus a person or two walking around giving away wonderful rolls they bake there....I've axed em about the 20th or the 27th....that's ok with them. Diane is g oing by there today or tomorrow and confirm it.

If Spring Creek doesnt woik out, there's a thousand and one BBQ joints....HOWEVER, RUDYS IS OUT OF THE QUESTION...I wouldnt eat there on a bet....both times I went, was a disaster...food is terrible....but, there's some folks that like it I suppose ! ! ! !

Didnt want this to g et complicated, but fear that I am muddying up the water...I'm not a goooood organizer or host or hostess...but am a pretty good get togetherer....

you can go on line and look at the menu....

Our alumni association has received the following request from Waltrip Head Football Coach, Todd Wright, regarding the need to raise funds for football uniforms for the upcoming season.  HISD will not be providing money to put our Waltrip Rams in new uniforms.  (They have not had new uniforms for several years, and they have been constantly mending uniforms so our football teams can play each year.)

The information from Coach Wright:  Here are the two sets of uniforms we would like to order. The company is making us a fantastic deal.

We would receive two (2) complete sets of uniforms (2 sets of jerseys and two sets of pants) for a unit price of $130.  This is about 35% the cost if we ordered from Barcelona or Pasadena Sports.  All the lettering and numbers are sewn on rather than ironed on.   Very good upgrade.

We would need to order a minimum of 50 sets.     50 X $130= $6500

This order would easily be between $15,000 and $18,000 normally.    This company is a friend to the program and not an HISD vendor yet, so the money would need to come from the Booster Club and outside donations.

Thank you for the support,

Head Coach Todd Wright
Waltrip Athletic Dept.

So here is the plan.  We need to raise $6500 as soon as possible because the football season runs from August until mid-November.  Our alumni association has risen to the challenge before and we need to help with this urgent request.

We need 50 alumni to send a check for $130, or, someone to reach out to a business relationship and see if they would step forward to cover some or all of the money needed.  Of course, you may make a donation of any size that will be added to the cause.

You may write your check payable to Waltrip Alumni Association and show for Athletic Dept. and mail it to:
                                          Waltrip Alumni Association, Inc.
                                          P.O. Box 924212,
                                          Houston, TX  77292-4212.

A donation can also be made at our web site, www.waltripalumni.org, and designated to the “Athletic Dept.” using a credit or debit card.  Choose the “Make a Single Donation” tab.

Our association will then send all of the donations received to the school and designated “Athletic Dept.” for football uniforms.  Your donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt showing your tax deductible donation for your records.   Thank you for helping to make this happen.  “GO RAMS”

Contributions to the Alumni Association are tax deductible to the extent allowed by federal law.
The Waltrip  Alumni Association, Inc. is an exempt organization under section 501(c) (3) of the
Internal Revenue Code.  Our Federal Tax ID (EIN): 27-4574626.

I tried to go on to the Waltrip website link to donate $$ and it tells me I do not have permission, but will mail a check...so count me as one of the fifty.  They need to be looking good and feeling like winners when they hit that field!

Just made my donation online for Football Uniforms and didn't have a problem.  However, I am a member of the Alumni Association, so maybe that makes a difference?

Oh, just FYI, I've added a new tab "Current Announcements" located top left hand column.

Hello myne waltripians....Diane made a donation  this morning on line and didnt have any trougle!    She does pretty much all our banking and bill paying on line....it's amazing the things she gets done on line, where I'd have to go stand IN LINE to do stuff....She actually reads the distructions on things, whereas I just want stuff to happen by bulldozing it....anyway, the waltrip website and the alumni website and paypal all sent double confirmations  TO MY PHONE....! ! ! ! ! !   That child is just a wizard, no two ways about it !    I am so lucky! ! !

Oh, and one of Johns friends, Phil, that also worked with Diane for years, called and thanked us for the donations, and also caught Diane up on all the latest gossip and job movement in HISD....Phil is a really great guy...He was out here for Dianes retirement party, and brought his Drone.

That thing is so cool...took skyeye pictures of the place....I wrote HOWDY in the lower pasture with the tractor and mower that you could see in space, plus I cut a huge cross that can be seen from the space station....get on your MAPS app and dial in Chappell Hill, and 4040 Marshall lane and zoom in and you can see it....just the cross, all the other stuff grew over and or was cut down....

Well, set the date on yourn collander,  Saturday, August 27th 3 PM till ????  At Spring Creek BarBQ...It is on 290 on the left leaving Houston at Fry road in the Cypress Rose Hill area....and for all youse youtes that shop the malls, a few minutes further west, is the fancy schmancy Outlet Mall....it's ok in the winter, but the summer, it is too hot, because it is an outside mall...we use to take Cooper with us when it was below 70 gredees.

He and I would ssit on one of the park benches and ogle the young girls whilst Diane was in one of the stores shopping....NO DOGS ALLOWED IN THE STORES....boo...I tried to splain to em that Cooper wasnt JUST a dog...He held a PHD in reading from Oscar Mayer University, but they were'nt buying it...Oh bother ! ! ! ! !

I say ogle the young girls, anyone less than 70 is young, and with my eyesite, some of em were probably martians or venusians or vulcans for all I could tell....Maybe Mr/ Spocks wife or daughter was shopping out there....I do like to people watch....

I have to say that's one thing I miss about Cooper, other than cooper himself, was the looks from folks when first they laid eyes on him...the joy it brought them and Cooper to greet one and other....I guess I just miss him, and probably will till the end of my days....

"If you build it, they will come"....so, I'm building a softball field in the corner of the northwest pasture...I'm really excited about it.   It wont be regulation, but close it will be.   It will have a backstop, and bleechers/dougouts....they will have to do double duty, and that will also allow the players and fans to mingle and get to know one and other.

Right field is only 252 feet from home plate,  left field, if you can hit over the containers, is about 1200 feet give or take a rod or two...now, center field is gonna be tricky because My garagedominium is sittin right smack dab in the middle of center field.  135 ft from home plate........So the rule is, if you hit the building, YOURE OUT ! ! !  If you hit it again, 5 points will be deducted from your teams score...if you hit it a third time, you will be ejected ! ! ! !   If you do manage to hit the ball over any fence, YOU HAVE TO RETRIEVE IT...

We've got 3 ball gloves, two righty and one lefty, and 4 balls, two white and two yellow, and two bats, one wooden and one metal....So, ifin any of youse youtes want to come over and have a "catch", we can do just that...I'll have to throw underhanded, cant throw overhanded anymore, torn rotator cuffs, but that's ok, my heart and enthusiasm will over ride any handicap ! ! ! !!

Whilst we're playing catch, we can sip tea, lemonade, or your favorite beverage.   Or, we can just sit and pretend like we're playing catch...."Put me in coach, I'm ready to play..."  I think that was one of CCRs songs, and one of my favorites....

It's midnight thirty, and I'm awake...duh ! ! !   I was hurting so bad, I finally took two vicodin, or hydrocodone as a last measure....they've finally kicked in...doesnt stop the pain all the way, but helps a lot !    However, and aint there always a however !   It causes paranoia, and sleepy though I get, I cant go to sleep, or sleep for more than a few minutes, then I'm up looking around for inturders !     Oh well, there's always trade offs in life....

I'm not sure when I'll be finished with the ball field, but probably in a couple of weeks...when I'ts done, I'lll post a picture or two....my dream would be that we could all gather here, and have a never ending game, lots of food and drink and cool weather and fellowship...."all you need is love" ! ! !

Ok, I've gummed up the works or tsomething like that...oh pshaw ! ! !

guess I'll curl up with a gingham dog and calico cat and try to sleep...well, relax anyway...

Today I contributed enough money to the Waltrip football team to purchase a set of game gear for the 2016 season. I would like to encourage every past football player and fan todo the same. 1963 teammates, I would remind you that no one in the city had game uniforms that topped ours. Remember the shoulder patch, the game day blazers and the ties. We looked sharp so, I believe, we played to the top of our ability. I know that HISD did not fund all the purchase price of all of those items. I am sure that we and our parents and other fans made up the difference. Waltrip and it's student body has changed over the years but I would bet that they are still proud to be a ram. If you can, please join me and show your support for the Rams!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help with the uniforms. My three brothers graduated from Waltrip-didn't play football but loved the games. My son played every year at Westbury. Uniforms mean a lot. I donated $130 in their honor. Hook 'em Rams!

Thank everyone who is donating to the Ram Football uniform drive. Yall are such a great group and the true meaning of class. My office is next door to the field. They are starting to practice and condition now. I always think of each of you who worked so hard to help make Waltrip winners when I see them outside. Hope some of you can come to a game. Its quite different but a lot of fun.

It's always nice when a plan comes together, for good reasons !    Couldnt think of a better cause than our old alma mater! ! !

103 degrees before noon today here on the hill...heat index of 120, according to MY weather station...I've had to put building my ball field on hold today, just too dang hot ! ! !   I did get the infield cut in and temporary bases, and a backstop up yesterday.  Got materials for one of the bleechers, just too hot!

Man, I can almost taste a good .15 cent hotdog, slathered in mustard, chili and onions and smell the popcorn popping!   "Peanuts and popcorn and crackerjacks, I don't care if I ever get back..."

I'm in negotiations with MLB about having the WHIRLD SERIES here !

I know, yall are probably saying to yourselves, "self,  why in the whirld would someone build a baseball field in the middle of nowhere?"   Well, the answer to that is, how many people can SAY they built a ballfield, alone, solo, all by hisownself, hmmm?    None that I know of, cept me.  So, I'm "riding boldly riding"..... I just might be an inspiration to some young kid that says, "by golly,  if a blind deaf dumb gimpy old fatman can build a ball field by hisownself, maybe I can find a cure for cancer, heart disease, diabetes etc "....yeah, that's what I'm thinking !    How many folks did Charles Lindberg inspire with his solo flight to Paris back in 27, hmmmm?????

Now, I dont compare myself or equate to the likes of Charles Lindberg,  but inspiration can come from the unlikliest places, why not a ball field in a pasture in Chappell Hill, Tx???      Well sirs and ma'ams,  that would be swell ! ! !   Plus, who knows, just might get a game going here some day.   I'm hanging out a sign, "BALL FIELD ICE HOUSE" , coming soon! ! !  The lemonade and tea and beah and softdrinks will be flowing freely, well, not free, gona have to charge something for the beah and soft drinks! ! !

Ok, time to go check the temperature gauge...

Dear Waltrip Rams,

I am so proud of you for donating $ for uniforms. The message came to me on my email from the Alumni Assoc. I sent in my check. My son played football in school and in college. I worked on many fundraisers for the team when he was in high school.

Hooray for Waltrip Rams! You made a difference! I'm so glad I know you.

07/23/16 01:17 PM #8076

Beau Wann, Jr.

Good Morrow myne fyne waltripynes....nice to be associated with a class with this much class...Thanks Terry and John !  I will have a name tag for you when you work the concession stand, and anyone else whom might want to dawdle in the field of hotdogs and chips!   But, dont get settled in to just working the stand, you just might be needed to fill in at any of the dozen or more positions on the team or teams.   Hmmm, i wonder if they have cotton candy machines for reasonable cheap?

For all those that thought I might just be funnin ya about building a ball field, top photo is from deep center field sky boxes.

I'm sure yall are familiar with the above photo behind the back stop at home plate looking out towards center field, many of us have stood there before, looking out to centerfield.  You're probably wondering about the building in center field...well, the plans called f or a club house, and It'd be my guess that they put it just a tad too close in.  Well, at least it wont be far to run to and grab a beah or pop etc...If you look left, left field, you will see the corner of a shipping container, and some Ouisatch trees. That is 185 feet!   If you can hit over those obstacles, then left field is 1200 feet and down to the crick!   methinks that would be a home run.

Center fieeld however, is only 135 feet, so unless you can hit the ball 300 feet in the air up and over the club house and country club and cars and tractors, then if you hit the club house, it is an automatic out. If you hit it twice, it is an out and 5 points is duducted from your score.   If you hit it a third time, you are ejected.

Right field is 252 feet to the fence. If you hit over, it is a home run. If you hit a goat, it is a ground rule double. (yes we have goats and cows next field over)   If you hit a goat and knock it out, it is a ground rule single. If the goat eats the ball, you must fork over 5 bucks and your out.
HEY, I dont make these rules up...they come straight from the Abner Doubleday rule book, so take it up with him ! ! ! !

the bottom photo is of the whirld famous ground crew, head grounds keeper, Bahama Beau....some of yall from architechural drawing might remember the apartment complex I drew up, much to the chagrin of Mr Wygant....It was appropriately called BAHAMA PALMS...I know JC Mosier remembers it, and Dragics...Well, I'm fresh off that success some 50 years ago, seems like only half century, my how time has fun when youre flying by....oh well, something like that....

In my younger days, they called me shoeless beau jackassson...as you can see in this here tintype, I am shoeless...I never wear shoes, only boots ! ! !

I'll bet yall didnt really think I'se building my "FIELD OF DREAMS"....It's hard to convey the feeling of doing something like that.  whilst I'm on the t ractor mowing or moving rocks and dirt around, I just look up the hill and see the field, and suddenly I'm not tired anymore.

I still have 3 sets of bleechers to build, and have the material for 1 set as I type.   been going over in my mind just how to build them by myself...I think I'm going to need an extra set of hands to hold stuff.   My beloved is pretty busy with Ricks estate to really give me a hand, plus, it is way yonder too hot for her outside. Hmmm, maybe I'll think of something...

I will also have box seats, 6 of em. They sell for a premium, and are going fast, so act now, now much do you think they are?  but wait, dont answer yet, you also get a handy dandy set of ginzu knives, now what do you think youre going to pay, but wait, there's more, you get a years supply of the drugs of your choice ! ! !    How much do you think this will all cost?   119.95? NOOOO...29.95 ? NOOOO...but yours for the slim and small paltry sum of 19.95, split up in 600 easy installments of 49.95...

I'm in negotiations with a sponsor to be named later...

Ok, time to settle down with a gingham dog and calico cat...

From the Whirld of sports:  This just in. stop.   As the Cooper Memorial Field nears completion, the John R. Cunningham memorial box seats were added today, as well as the first sponsor....all thanks to the superior BAHAMA BEAU CONSTRUCTION COMPANY....more later as things develop...stop...

Moving right along myne fyne waltripynes....The good thing about the box seats, is they are MOBILE...Yeah, you can move em where ever the action is, of course you need the ok from your fellow boxians....

It has been so much fun reading the Forum while I have been in Colorado! Beau, you make me laugh until the tears flow! I can't wait to come to a game at your field.  Count me in for working the concession stand with Terry. WiFi was out all over Lake City for most of the time I was there so I was not able to post anything, but at least I could keep up with everything that has been going on for the past month.  It is great that we all have the opportunity to support our Waltrip Rams' football team with new uniforms.  I cannot imagine HISD not being able to help supply uniforms where they are needed, but thank goodness the players have the support of their alumni.  Go Rams!!

Lake City was beautiful and cool....a great reason to be there in the summer.  Most of my family congregated there to spread Bryon's ashes over some of his favorite places...Big Blue, which was his favorite fishing hole; Windy Point, which is a gorgeous overlook outside of Lake City which gives a fantastic view of some of the "fourteeners" in that area; and, of course, the cabin itself, which holds so many memories of special times. It was a meaningful time for all of us!

When I was there I kept thinking of the classmates and spouses of classmates who have passed away.  David Zaring passed away while I was gone...such a sweet, wonderful guy!  We have lost so many!  But then again I thought about the wonderful, loving, supportive class we have and how much we mean to each other.  We are so blessed to have each other to help us get through the sad times and also the glad times. All I can say is, "Wow!!"  Thank you all...those of you who read, those of you who write, and those of you who we know are there for all of us. Thank you.
