Teddie Jordan

Sorry to hear about your sister Frank. Francine and I spent a few days in London a couple of weeks ago and it would have been a hoot had we run into you while there. I recently saw pictures of the wooden boat you have built and your dad is no doubt smiling down proudly over that beautiful project. He was one of my favorite teachers at Black. And as I have mentioned to you before, like Beau, I used to get to visit with your sweet mom often while sitting with her outside of  Mr. Tusa's office anxiously waiting to learn my fate. I was proud to write a letter to the HISD board when they were considering naming the Delmar Sports complex in his honor and told them of the positive influence he had on shaping my character, and my rear end. And I received a very thoughtful note from him after they did so.

Died: June 16, 2016

Ernest Robert Hoppens Jr., 73, of Chappell Hill and former resident of Friendswood, passed away on June 16, 2016. He was a member of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and he was a founding member of the Rodeo Express and he was a founding member of the Stampede Riders. Member of First United Methodist Church of Brenham. Member of Texas Cattle Raisers Assn. Member of Texas Herford Assn. and a Life Long Craftsman.

.A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday June 20, from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at The Lions Club in Pearland, TX. 3350 South Main St. Pearland TX. 77581.

Grave side service 2:00 p.m. Tuesday June 21, 2016 at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Ernest Robert Hoppens Jr. entered this world on June 11,1943 in Houston Tx to the delight of Ernest & Stella Hoppens. He was always a hard worker. From his years at Mr. Wilson’s Service Station, to driving a beer truck from Hamm’s Beer & working in the brewery at Jax Beer. He found his true passion when he went to work at Southern Display in the late 60’s, where he worked for almost 30 years. In 1993, he realized a dream of owning his own business when he formed Lone Star Exhibits. Which, he built into a very successful business, until he retired in 2008. He had many passions in life. They included his family, friends, antique cars, horses, cattle, Stampede Riders and volunteering his time for great causes such as The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

His love for traveling was Big. He & Sharon took many road trips with his Sweet Aunt Erna. Going to Car Auctions with buddies & traveling to other Countries. He enjoyed these things so much. Robert enjoyed going to County Fair Auctions too. Always buying animals to help the youth & buying welding projects from the Ag students. One thing he really loved & adored were his granddaughters & watching them play “baseball” as he called it. He always said he was so proud of his girls. They were his pride & joy! Robert also had To Do Lists. He would work all day to get things marked off his list, even if it meant him being late to wherever he may be going. So he was late quite a bit…Always trying to get one last thing marked off that list. He had quite a few ranch hands throughout the years and he taught every one of them things that they will never forget. Life lessons, how to build something from the ground up, etc..It wasn’t just work. Robert & his buddies had an annual sausage stuffing (really just a reason to get together and drink some beer) He loved making sausage his way! Always enjoyed the times he spent with them.

The NFR was also something he truly enjoyed. He & Jason started going around 1989. Had 27 great years at The NFR. Lots of great times were had and countless memories were made there.

Robert went to be with the Lord June 16, 2016 after a brief but courageous battle with Cancer. He was a wonderful Father, Husband, Friend, Companion and Mentor to us all! He will be deeply missed. We will see you later Hoss! He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Jason and Wendy Hoppens of Friendswood, and special friend and companion Sharon Richardson of Chappell Hill. Two grandchildren Stacie and Kaylee Hoppens, sister LaNell Stark of Renton Washington. Serving as Pallbearers are: Jason Mushinski, Gregory Armstrong, Kyle Armstrong, Bryce Armstrong, Raymond Miller III and Billy Chisum. moc@sbcglobal.net

Gooooooood mornin chappell hilllll....maybe this will be a short dissertation...

Going about in everyday life, in my own small little world, working on my tractor, mowing the lower pasture, planting trees, still opening boxes, and yes, still moving in...I guess it will be an ongoing process until I move again...sometimes I forget just how blessed I am, just to be associated with such a beautiful class of people, and not just 64, but all the classes that touched on our year....the younger and older brothers and sisters of our classmates...

One life touches so many, good and bad sometimes...the bad I regret, but am reminded that we were "just kids" back then...smarter than anyone else, especially our teachers and parents, yet dumber than a box of rocks...

We somehow made it...to where we are now...wiser, softer, almost as smart as our parents and teachers now for real and true....

And after the day is done, and I check in on the forum, my heart just soars with love and happiness to hear from so many beautiful people, whether it's addressed to me or just to the entire class....or am saddened to get an email about the passing of one of our classmates and or classmates loved ones, my heart just melts from sorrow...no matter how distant the soul is from me, I still am affected....

So , when you get on the forum to read, just say hi....at this stage in our lives we need the strength of each other...the gentle compassion...the continued love of almost three quarters of a century...

I have no idea where this is going, except that no matter how much I hurt, or am cranky for how bad my day has been...there is always this website, and of course, "you"...the class of....class...then I dont hurt so bad....

Thank you for that...it is priceless...

So here is photo of me and my sweetie. We just spent two weeks on the beautiful Garden Isle, Kauai. A tropical paradise for sure. Lots of movies were made here, like South Pacific, jurrasic park, Blue Hawaii. Just spectacular. Good seafood almost everyday. Flowers just raining from the trees and oh did I mentions? Chickens everywhere. From the tops of the mountains to the seashore, the poultry have free range. Seems like when ever there was a hurricane, the fowl flew the coop and now they just go where they want. Local legend says that if you are a very good person, the little people, "Menuhenes" might come and help you. They are sort of like the elves in the Cobblers Helpers story. Of course, if you are bad, they might turn you into a rock! So I am trying to be very, very, good, so they will come and help me with the yard work or growing tomatoes.

A far cry from the North Shepard area we grew up in. Shirley and I are going to Alaska in August. Our middle son lived in Switzerland two years. While he was there we visited England, France, Italy and of course Switzerland. Last year my three sons and my oldest grandson and I went to Argentina for a "bucket list" bird hunt. It was amazing. Good to see you and your "sweetie" are enjoying life!

Received the following on David Zaring, who is in hospice. Please keep David and Linda in your prayers:

Typed this just to give our friends an idea of what happened!I have had so many of David's friends, old and new, also our friends and my friends, ask about him.  How he is and even just that they heard he was sick and what was wrong!  Everyone has been so kind sending their love, thoughts and most of all PRAYERS!  They have meant more than you know.  I also appreciate the cards and personal notes from everyone, some of you, even David's Waltrip friends have sent me cards, that has been very special.
I have tried to answer each one separately in a timely manner, but that has proven impossible, plus his condition has changed rapidly.  So I am going to try it this way.
David started loosing weight back in the fall.  There was an incident with a tire at the end of November and he begin to have extreme back pain.  We were already going to the doctor, but got serious about it when the back pain started.  All the blood work, X-rays and tests they ran showed nothing out of line.  We were told last summer the only thing that was off was that there was too much calcium in his blood.  They told him to stop taking his multi vitamin.  Since then I've read on line that if a doctor tells you that the calcium in your blood is
high, if only slightly and tells you that they will just watch it, you should find a new doctor.  We will never really know.  The vertebrae was probably fractured in late November with the tire incident, so it probably had already spread to the spine.
After more cat scans and MRI's a mass was found on the T6.
We then went to MDA and they determined that the spine was not the primary cancer.  So for the first 3 weeks we were seen by an internal medicine doctor, who through more scans & MRI's and a bone biopsy, the primary cancer was found in the kidneys and the pelvic area.  We knew the bone cancer had spread up to the T-3, fairly rapidly.
We were set up to see our doctor on May the 2nd.  Unfortunately we had to take David in to
ER on May 1st.  He was in the hospital until May 16th and had 10 radiation treatments to try to shrink the tumors and stabilize the spine as they were worried about that.  David's cancer was advanced and it was a very aggressive cancer.  With a lot of hope and many prayers, we were discharged to a rehabilitation facility for David to try to get stronger.  On May 31st we saw his
Genitourinary doctor who put him on the chemo pill Votrient, he also prescribed an appetite enhancer and hoped we would see some improvement, he wanted to give David a chance and told us to come back in four weeks and he would have a scan in six weeks.  Well, David didn't get better, his appetite didn't improve, (he hasn't eaten in months), how the man worked full time until March 27 is amazing, considering the shape we now know he was in.
He was a very strong man.
He still walked a few feet for the therapists a week ago but he has gotten much weaker the last two weeks.  I moved his appointment with his doctor at MDA up to Wednesday this week, not quite the four weeks because I didn't know if he could make the trip in another week.
The doctor said what I knew in my heart he would.  The fact was that David didn't feel any better, still wasn't eating anything, sleeping most of the time and was getting weaker instead of stronger.  The doctor said that if he was going to turn around, it would have happened by now.  He would have begun to eat some, felt better, been a little stronger and there would have been a visible improvement rather than the opposite.  He was sorry to have to do it but he referred us to hospice.
MDA moved fast because they knew David wasn't in the best setting where he was, and we are now at Harbor House Hospice.
2450 N. Major Dr.
Beaumont, Tx. 77713

I just want to thank everyone for every thought, every prayer, every text, message, phone call and all the cards during this whole difficult journey.  David made friends wherever he went and whatever he did.  Some of you I've never met, but I've heard the stories for years.  We've received cards from people that remember the friendly boy with a smile from elementary school.  I've often teased him about collecting friends.  We have always been friends as we grew up together in Baptist
Temple Church, but for the last 17 plus years he's been my best friend and this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life!  He's taken care of me for all these years and now it's my turn to take care of him!
Continue to keep us in your prayers please.🙏

Thank you for all the congrats.  I'm so Blessed to have five grandchildren now -- what a precious gift from God.  Nothing like being a grandma --- melts your heart.

Chuck, thank you so much for posting Linda's message.  We have stayed in touch via text but didn't know that they had moved David to a hospice facility.  As she said, in her heart she knew that would probably be the next step. She had posted a picture on her Facebook of David at rehab center on June 4 with his grandkids and he was weighing 110 pounds.  God Bless him!!!  Hugs

David was such a nice guy in high school. He was another person I lost contact with after high school, but always felt he would do good somewhere. Linda said it very succintly, IF your doctor ignores ANY question about your health, get a new one. I am still here because my doctors at the Houston Medical center and Methodist system, NEVER let me interfere with their analysis and recommendations. I had a potential problem and i was told i was off to be operated on, immediately. BEST THING that could have happened. I can only wish that David could have had my care group. we all wish David the best possible

Jackie, I must admit to being a little jealous of your new baby.  My grandchildren are so old.  Oldest is 22 and youngest is 16.  I said we needed to import little ones for Christmas.  I did just spend a week at church camp with most of them and we had 26 little ones to oversee and enjoy.  God is good.  I was not in charge of the kid's program this year. All of my grandchildren love taking care of little ones.  My grandson is going to California to work for Google.  He leaves in two weeks so I have him scheduled for an afternoon of tech help before he leaves me high and dry.

Reading about David really makes me appreciate all the friends and family God gives us on this journey.  One of my friends for the past 50 years is a palliative Doctor.  She has really put her heart into allowing people the right to spend the end at home or hospice or even hotel.  She loves God and respects patients and their families.  There are really poor doctors out there and there are really good ones.  I've had both.  We need to run away from the poor ones.

Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July.  We've got a great country.
