As Wayne said come on ladies we want to hear your stories too!

Obviously you have a bunch of them.

I remember one Friday afternoon in the Waltrip parking lot seeing Mike Collins '63 and his Corvette, probably a '62, with "Garner or Bust" painted on the back window in big letters. I thought how cool would that be, heading to Garner in a  Corvette. I was heading to the grocery store.

I guess being poor and having to work all summer unloading produce trucks at North Side Bannana Co. From 5:00 a m to 5:00 pm Monday thru Satuday kept me from all these temptations. Thank you mom and dad!! and Coach Burton. Fear of getting caught has always been a great motivator.

Sorry to say there is an obituary in this morning's Chronicle for Gloria Hornick's mom who was almost 94. Please pray for Gloria and her family at this time.

Also a good article in the business section on classmate Bruno Leonardt and the successful business he has built. There is a nice picture of Bruno and his daughter who works for the company. Bruno is a true entrepreneur.

Could Bruno Leonardt be related to another famous Italian sculptor named Leonardo?

I remember running into Bruno around 1972-3 when I was going to U of H at night and working toward a career in engineering depending on my trusty TI SR-10 calculator for both and it stopped working so I took it to Texas Instruments outsourced repair center and guess who, there was Bruno. I think he was a millionaire soon thereafter since TI was a big supplier of same. Then a few years later, again ahead of the curve, he got into the cell phone business and was very successful once more, a true entrepreneur emerged from the meager beginnings in Oak Forrest, way to go Bruno………….

CONGRATULATIONS to Bruno again. I did not know he worked for TI, but i do know about his days of selling office equipment, Calculators and other 'stuff'. then starting his own sales and service organization on Chimney Rock. as markets changed so did Bruno's company's sales focus. Eventually the cell phone business. Bruno was and still is the TRUE AMERICAN EXAMPLE of an entrepreneur. I loved the part of seeing an opportunity and then acting upon it.

CONGRATS Mr. Bruno Leonardt you have impressed me and hopefully ALL of us again. Keep it up.

This is a sad entry. Tom Holder was taken to the hospital last weekend and was diagnosed with brain cancer. He had an operation to stop some bleading and is still at the hospital in Portland Oregon where he has lived for a number of years. The situation is very bleak. His wife, Becky, asked me to let everyone know and to tell them how much Tom enjoyed reading the Message Forum and all the entries on the website. For more information you can access www.caringbridge.org then you can enter his name, Thomas Holder, on their home page.

Bradley, thanks for posting about Tom Holder.

I will try to list names of the Brook Woods neighbor kids that Tommy grew up with in no special order and will apologize for forgetting some but here goes:

J.B. Bellflower

Wayne ‘Buddy’ Mitchell

David Flannery (next door neighbor)

Paige Talley

Paulette Skelton (lived about behind him)

Ivan, Suzy, Freddie and Billy Jones

Lindy and Dick Heinz

Sweetie Marbury

Glen Weisinger

Sharon Lindstrom

Kay and Sonny Gray

Clayton Witherspoon

Wayne and Sandi Schlesinger

the Duckworth boys
Corey and Donna Holberg

Tommy’s house had a large, nice front yard with big trees and a ravine where we used to play. They had big bell that hung on a post out front and every evening his Mom would ring that bell about supper time so that the whole neighborhood could hear and we all knew it was time to go home.

Swim on Tommy, swim on…………..

Wayne, it was an ideal neighborhood. I have the "coffee club" scrap book. It. Is straight out of leave it to Beaver. The moms would hang a cup towel on the mailbox after all the kids left for school and that is where they would gather. For coffee. I think Tommy lived further down the block. The house where the mom rang the bell was Jan Dragemyer. we recently sold the house on Ascot. Other neighbors Cindy Smith, Cindy Hightower, Lindy Hines,Chris, Priscilla, Marty Devries, I am sure ther are more. we had lots of room to roam and explore.

Don't forget Tommy Lang. Tommy lived next door to Lindy Heyen.

Marion Lynch lived closed to Tommy Holder.

I will pass the word about Tommy Holder.

Keep me honest ladies, sometimes my memory gets fuzzy and my imagination takes over. I am impressed you are both up and at’em so early, especially Sweetie on Mountain Time.

I had a large dolphin swim through the light last night looking for an easy meal – a flash of the silhouette is quick but fun to observe.

Yes , thanks Sweetie and James for the reminders. Kenny had a really cool fort

in the back yard. I am sending Tommy all the good thoughts and memories of

childhood adventures.

So sorry to hear the news about Tommy and his situation.  I have always thought  a lot of him. There is a really good picture of him and his family on the caring bridge site. Just go to caringbridge.org and visit the site for Thomas Holder.

It has really been fun reading the comments of Tommy's fellow Brookwoods kids and your memories of growing up there. It does sound like the perfect place to have grown up, and as we all recognize now, we were so lucky to grow up in the safe and innocent years that we did.

I realize in retrospect that Brookwoods was at one time kind of an island on the outskirts of suburbia and I'm sure that contributed to the closeness of the kids who grew up there. I don't know anything about the history of the develpment and would be interested in hearing it, and about what years you all moved there.

Allen, I think it is time to tell you the truth.  Actually, I tell the truth all the time now.  I was NOT calling you because I got caught taking a pee on the side of a mountain.  I (with three others) got caught with two beers in the car.

Terry-To the best of my recollection, that was the story you gave me the night you called.  In any event, you probably would have got our cheaper if you had got caughtfor peeing on the mountain.  Any way it was probably one of the funniest phone calls I can ever remember getting from one of my friends.

It was great getting to see you at the reunion.  I think that was the first time I'd seen you since graduation.

Teddy We moved there in 1951.I think. We lived on Fisher before. Jester of course was not there and 34th

didnot go down that far. So the only way out was down Mangum to 18th. We went to church and school in the Heights. We actually had a water well. Very few houses. so we could roam around. We always had snakes and other critters in the yard. We played in the bayou and built forts in the vacant lots.  Acouple of years ago when the city of houston requested a few dollars per foot for drainage ect My Dad said "no way" I already paid for that when thay added city water, he could tell me how much he paid and when.  Heck he probably had the reciepts...Teddy Larry Peters built some of the houses there and lived in the neighborhood too. I remember my Dad saying the payment was $110.00 a month and he didnt know how he was going to pay it. We had two bathrooms though and that was the cats pajamas.

Such sad news that our dear classmate, Tom Holder, passed away.  He was the sweetest and always had that beaming smile.

Thomas N. Holder

October 5, 1947 – April 2, 2015

So many things could be said of Thomas N. Holder of Lake Oswego, OR, suddenly stricken by cancer at the age of 67.    However, a few things are worth noting in his remembrance.

First, Tom was a gentleman by upbringing, with an intelligent, fair and gracious nature.  His mother impressed upon him a Southern gentility, warm sense of humor and good manners – all of which made him “really good with old ladies,” and tempered his passion when voicing opinions on local civic and education issues.

Devotion to his family and Becky, his wife of 45 years, was the second pillar of Tom’s life.  Few peas in a pod were less likely than petite Becky and towering Tom.  But from a poolside meeting between the handsome lifeguard home from college and the teen ingénue, Tom was inseparable from his lifelong muse.  Through countless good times and a few deeply tragic ones, Tom was by Becky’s side.  He deeply loved being a father to Luke, and later to Rin, who became a daughter not only in spirit, but in name.

Volunteering and citizenship were a third distinguishing aspect of Tom’s life, especially his investment of time and resources to math and technology initiatives at Lake Oswego schools.  He also volunteered for Respid Care.

Last, Tom had re-awakened his spiritual life.  As with most things Tom did, he was all-in.  He began finding his spiritual path with daily commitments to meditation, yoga and the Sunrise At The Firehouse AA group.  Recently Tom renewed his sacraments in the Catholic Church.  Faith had taken on greater meaning for Tom, and in his last days, provided unfathomable comfort.

Tom Holder was born in Houston, Texas to J.A. and Lorene Nelson Holder.  An outstanding student and swimmer, he was awarded a scholarship to the Texas A&M, where he earned Bachelor’s degrees in math and electrical engineering, and a Master’s in computer science.  He served in ROTC and U.S. Army National Guard, training as a paratrooper.

In 1969 Tom and Becky married, and set out to bring their passion for Texas cooking and low- down Texas Country music to San Francisco, where they lived for 18 years, first as carefree, successful professionals, then with Luke’s arrival in 1987, as doting parents.  Tom had a successful career in technology, while Becky was a rising star of the Bay Area ad agency scene.  He and Becky wisely managed their earnings and savings, and were able to retire comfortably in their 40’s.

In 1995, the family followed their star north, to schools and suburban life in Lake Oswego, OR.  There, Tom dove deeply into volunteering and home, and was freed to dedicate more time to community and family, and showering Becky with sweet thoughts and gifts large and small.

Tom is survived Rebecca A. Holder; daughter Rin Holder; sister and brother in law Shirley and Jack Patton; and brothers and sisters in law Rusty and Linda Reichle, and Randy and Terry Reichle.  Tom was tragically predeceased by beloved son Lucas Holder.  The family is most grateful to the love and care of the Legacy Emanuel trauma ICU staff, and the wonderful palliative team of Emanuel and Hopewell House.   Date and time of services at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church will be announced on the Caring Bridge website.

Tom Holder update

Our sweet and beloved Tom passed away this morning at 12:30 AM from Metastatic Melanoma Brain Cancer at the beautiful Hopewell Hospice Home.  Please know that at this time we are requesting no visitors.  We are planning a service for several weeks from now and will let you know via the Caring Bridge website.  Becky, Rin, Luke, and all the Reichle family so appreciate all the love, prayers that have helped them though this very difficult journey.  Tom's family, friends, and faith were his core.  At the end the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi was what brought him the most post.  The prayer is below.

The Prayer of Saint Francis Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console, To be understood as to understand, To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.

Attributed to Francis Bernadone, perhaps the most universally loved of Christian saints, who was born in Assisi, Italy, in 1181 or 1182. At the age of twenty-two, after a sudden illness that brought him almost to the point of death, he left his home and inheritance to follow an injunction that he felt he received from Christ himself: "Francis, go and rebuild my Church." Three great Franciscan orders quickly grew around the monks, nuns, and lay disciples who responded to his joyful example of universal love and selfless service.
Here is a song that was sung at Becky and Tom's wedding in which Tom surprised Becky and the words are so dear to Tom and Becky's heart:

We are One in the Spirit
We are one in the Spirit. We are one in the Lord.  We are one in the Spirit. We are one in the Lord, and we pray that all unity may one day be restored.
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.
Yes they will know we are Christians by our Love.
We will walk with each other. We will walk hand in hand. We will walk with each other.  We will walk hand in hand.
We will walk hand in hand.   And together we'll spread the news that God is in our land.

Thank you all for all of your kind works and letters.  Please feel free to email me at LindaBMarshall@aol.com and I will have printed out all letters,or mail letters to Becky at 481 Iron Mountain Blvd,Lake Oswego OR 97034

We will post you the date of Tom's service and Celebration of Life.  We will be having the service at Our Lady of Lake Church in Lake Oswego sometime in May and will keep you posted on details through Caring Bridge.  If you know of anyone who would like to added to the meal train or caringbridge, please email me at LindaBMarshall@aol.com.
The Holder and Reichle family feel all of your love and prayers and please be thankful for your friends and family.  Love,   Linda
