Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Jennie, I brought pics of Todd & Cheli last Tuesday.  Wish you had been there.  Glad to say that Cheli finished phy. therapy this week and Todd is still unable to use his ankle without pain, pretty shattered, so he is going to seek a 2nd opinion in Houston.  Anyone have any really good sport physicians? I suggested Fondren Orthopedic.  They are both back at work and Todd just went back to working on his Masters.  Although our loss of Michael is always on our minds, we are continuing in faith that we will all see him again. It has made us better people, and our friends are our support.

I am really involved in getting our little school ready for next Monday.  Another school year, so congrats on becoming 65 soon and enjoying, not an entitlement, but what we paid into all our working lives.  Next Feb. will be my big 65.

GO TEXANS!

Jackie, Sorry! Did not mean to inject politics. My brain was not working when I hit SUBMIT. Maybe you can edit.

Hot????  My car thermometer said it was 110 outside @ 3:30 here in McKinney.  And my 8 year-old grandson is going through practice with pads in this heat from 6:30-8 tonight.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Robert, I doubt anyone took offense to what you said...TOO DAMN HOT TO CARE ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE BUT AIRCONDITIONNNNNNING...oops, sorry my N button stuck...Cooper been leaning over the keyboard drooling...that boy is a hoot and a half...(oh, I've been drawing senior citizen perks for about 40 years now, but thanks for the compliment Robert. )

Hey Jennie, NOOOOOOO you cant be 65...can you??? I'll bet you have to show ID, just to buy alcoholic beverages, and when you go clubbin...right????? We missed you last Tuesday, or was it last last tuesday...see, thats what you get for turning 65, loss of memory...but hey, your still a babe in the woods...wait till you reach my age, which you never will, because I will always be a year and one half older than you, you youngster you...

An aside here, saw something on the news about dementia...they are calling it "baby boomer dementia"...I kid you not...I smell grant money...the patient they interviewed, said that he couldnt think of words, and that he didnt know where he was most of the time...had to stop driving, etc...hells bells, I thought that was normal for us folks that lived on DuBarry...dont know what they are doing for "baby boomer dementia", but the patient they interviewed seemed like he had it all together...so maybe there's hope....

Hey Robert, I'lll bet they have to card you when you ask for senior discount, you still look the same, as well as a lot of youse youtes, Teddie, Jimmy S, Jimmy H, Rich the LH,and many more...Lynn P and Scotty C and Gary J. man I could pick yall out of a line up with me eyes closed... most of yall still got your OWN hair...Of course I dont have that problem of unsightly hair upon me punkin haid...what was that saying???..."God made only so many perfect heads, the rest he covered with hair"...

Kay, Dr Likover, is my back and knee doc, and all round ortho specialist...He is among the best, and probably wrote the book on the stuff...He wont do unnecessary surgery...tore the aclu,or whatever in the heck that is in my knee...he said it would heal if I stopped playing pro football...dang and I was going to be starting quarterback for the Oilers this year too...he also has a good bedside manner, very funny and personable...he is in the professional building behind Memorial City Hospital...I think it is 902 Frostwood...my beloved says he has a website...he is the one that did the epidural on my back...and a million others...he said he has had two on his...I wonder if he did it to himself...it is a scary looking proceedure, but relatively painless...

Charlie Burkhardt goes to Dr Likover...he likes him...

Your son and daughter-in-law can come over and soak in the hot springs of our cement pond...how tall are they???? we have a spare bedroom upstairs, but the bed is an antique "double wedding ring" iron bed, and almost 200 years old, and judging from the length of it, folks were a mite shorter back in them good ol days...but anyway, if they come to town, they can stay with us if they need a place to stay...They probably cant traverse stairs very well yet can they...heck fire, they can have my bed, it's on the first floor, and I dont use it that much anyway...generally sleep on the couch with cooper and jack and Oliver and lacy and katy and peaches, and probably a llama or alpaca throwed in there someplace...not to mention a coatamunda...

I'm serious, if they need a place to stay, they and you are more than welcome here...just give me a few days notice, so I can shovel the cat and dog fur out...the cement pond is ready to go...
sooooo soooooothing and relaxing and warm, and believe it or not, blue and not green...and if you can believe it, there's no foreign objects in there either...I can even shuttle them to the doctors office if you need me to....Being retired, I can even come up there and pick them up and take em to the docs....except for the days cooper has school...he might get two schools this year, so that will be two days a week...but, any other days, if yall need my help, one is only too glad to be of service...plus, I make the best breakfast and coffee in the entire whirld...

Plus, and it's a big plus at the Wann compound, you get your very own up close and personal  CATSCAN....they are very theraputic...just look at what they have done for me...if it werent for my critters, I'd be in turrable (yes I know it's mispelled...more of that poetic license I got from Mrs Simpson) shape...I just walk with a limp...if it werent for my critters, I'd probably be in a wheelchair...kill an ordinary man for sure...

Oh, and Memorial City Hospital, is one of the finest in the country...I have first hand experience...they take VERY GOOD care of you...
I went to a Doctor Jones, down off the southwest freeway, back in 79 or so for rotator cuff problems...got cortisone shots in both shoulders...he was the Oilers ortho doc...dont know if he is still in bidness or retired...

Seriously, Let me know If I can be of help...

Jimmy lee, that is toooooo hot...it was 110 in my garage yesterday, with doors open and fans blowing...I got too hot working out there for 3 hours, so been laying up all day today, except this morn...took boys on Dawn Patrol and then rode my bike around...generally if I am back before 11 AM, it isnt too bad...plus I ride nekid...yeah, picture that..."car 54 car 54, we have a report of a fat baldheaded nekid man on a scooter headin out 290...proceed with caution...he is armed and dangerous, er, nekid and obscene...when he reaches city limits, break off chase...let him be someone elses "nekid man" problem..."

Back in the 70's or early 80's, my dad, an Ironworker extrodinaire, was building a bank building out Westheimer around Kirkwood...it was dead of winter, cold as a witches big toe in a brass shoe on Friday...anyway, I was working in a building just across the street, with the phone company...I was going to go see him at lunch, and man, it was cold....anyway, as I was walking across the street, the police roared up and was chasing a running nekid woman down the median...I kid you not...she was nekid as a jaybird, (whatever a jaybird looks like), but she was rather nice looking, and had a nice body too...it was right about the freezing level, and she was just running and laughing leading the cops on a rather nice chase...one of em caught her, and she kicked him so hard, right where a guy really doesnt want to be kicked...one cop down, a dozen to go...up until then, I had thought about joining in on the chase...changed my mind when that cop hit the deck...I often wondered what happened to all those people...wonder if they have a reunion, or maybe meet at TGIFridays on the 3rd wednesdays...

Wasnt no workin going on in that area that day for sure...they finally subdued her and put her in a patrol car...what a show...to my way of thinking, and correct me if I'm wrong, but she kinda picked the wrong time of year to run nekid dontcha think...now if she tried it this summer, I doubt anyone would notice, or care...

Well ok, got to try to go to sleep...got to be the OFFICIAL photographer at vacation bible school for our little country church in the city...
Hey, in case any of youse are in the area, they put in a new parking lot from the dirt up, at Black junior high...I know yall were concerned about that...Oh, and on my ride today, just around oak forest and the heights, they are building a high rise something or other at the corner of 11th street and Studewood...yup...and guess what is still there on the corner right in front of the new building...give up??? SOMEBURGER...that has been there since I was kneehigh to a Chuck Wagon spoke dog...

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...
your frien and brother, DOD

Well, I've got the "can't sleep" syndrome, been up watching Piers Morgan and Christine O'Donnell.  Who looks like a 1960's Gidget, complete with cute little suit and pearls.  Sorry, I can't take her seriously, although she'd like me too.  I like her better as a witch, ha, ha!  What did you expect from an over the hill grandmother.  My preserves have more sugar and age than the two of them together.

About the nakid runner,  all those youngens would come unglued and would laugh for half a century if we would all band together and run through the Heights...hee, hee.  We could show them a thing or two!  BabyBoomers still reign!

I will pass Dr. Likover's name to Todd, as well.  Have a few names suggested, no one who really specializes in the ankle.  Thank you, Beau, for your personal invite, as I know they would truly enjoy the company of both you and Diane, and your small church as well.  Most likely would be just a day trip for a second opinion.  But your pool sounds really soothing....

I'm excited about our little school starting on Monday....all 126 of them, give and take new enrollees and poopy withdrawals.  We have 2 in 7th grade and 2 in 12th.  I know everyone thinks we should just throw in the towel....but here we remain!  Todd supplies the officers for our area schools, hopefully we won't need 'em too often.

I'm going to try going back to bed now.  Go to church and get our pastor's answer as to whether he will stay or leave.  I'm thinking ....he'll leave, tired of frying in TX?

Hey Beau, can we all come over. What if we put several of those 100 lb blocks of ice in your cement pond? Ahhhhhhhhhh.  No diving until they melted. Do they still have those ice houses where could get ice like that? I remember when I as little, sometimes the guy would let me go in with him to grab that block with those ice thongs. Before we have a/c, so it was treat.

Hey Robert, OF COURSE, you all are welcome to come over and bring the BLOCK ICE WITH YOU...yes, you can still get block ice...Sparkle Ice on North Shepherd has it, and there are large machines set up around the city bout the size of an 18 wheeler, that are auto-vending...
I have seen two...one at the corner of Garden oaks Blvd and Shepherd, (in front of where Penneys use to be by sears on shepherd...and I dont remember where I saw the other one...couple a bucks for a block of ice, or crushed...

That Ice would melt in a nano-second in our hot spring cement pond...YES, yall come..."pack up the babys, grab the old ladys, and everyone go to brother loves traveling salvation show..."

Just a little Neil Diamond for you there...dang little...

HEY!!!! I have a idear...what if we...nah, that wouldnt work, never mind....

Beau Wann, Jr.

Good Monday morn mine waltripians,
Yall are probably asleep as you read this...now that made a lot of sense didnt it!!!
Me and Cooper just back from watering the Meek Memorial Orchard and Garden at our little country church in the city...took about 4 hours...had to knock off at midnight, lest I get a "waterin illegal ticket"...Most all trees are doing well, so far...got blooms on the pear trees, and peach trees are looking good...lost all but three blackberry plants...and those 3 aint looking none too good nohow...now thats a plant I thought woulda lived through most anything...

Ol Cooper was his usual magnificent self, being my personal guarddog...soons I let him out, I put him on a 25 ft horse lead, and hooked it to the tailgate, and he sasshayed over and relieved himself on a ol tree stump, then sauntered over to the olive tree section and sprawled out in a small swale in the ground, and promptly went to sleep...I tried to be as quiet as I could, so as not to disturb ol sleepin beauty, but when I opened up the ice chest, where the water and the oscar mayer was hidden, he would lift his head up and look my direction, waiting for me to bring him a tidbit or two...ha, I aint a gonna wait on that ol boy...yeah yeah yeah...he looks so sweet, cant help but cater to him...It was a mite warmish...he and I finished off 4 bottles of water, and a couple o weiners, and a good Arturo Fuente Cannones cigar...well, coop didnt have the cigar, just me...

The PO LICE showed up, checking to see wasnt I a good guy...I assured em I was...bad guys dont scare me, but the cops always make me nervous, because they get a little trigger happy, and "mite makes right"...they saw the venerable cooper laying on his side in the olive section, and asked if he was dead..."hell I hope not" I replied..."he's too damn heavy to haft to lift up in the truck"...one ol boy walked over to Cooper, and ol coop raised his head, waiting for his toll, one oscar mayer weiner...I told that ol boy, to watch out, Coop was a vicious killer...I thought he was gonna have a stroke laughing so hard...

The lawdogs left me and cooper to finish our chores...water water water...did a little trimming around some of the bushes...
You know, if one of my teachers at Black, which is just across the street, just in case you has forgot, had told me that some day, "boy, you gonna be waterin the church flawrs when you grow up", I wouldnt have believed him or her, which ever the case may be...but, here I am, "waterin the church flawrs"...I could have aspired a little higher I suppose, but there aint too much higher that God, ya think!!!!!

Guess I better turn in...my beloved has already hit the hay, hey...all the cats and dogs are down for the count...you know, that was about the longes time, Cooper has been out of the air condition, in quite a spell...our critters sure have it rough dont they...

Hey Robert, wheres that ice???? Yall come on down...got Jack daniels in the freezer, making Jack Danielcicles...hmmmmm good...and, if you get here early, you can have your choice of cats as a friend...get here late, and it's pot luck on cats...If Big Oliver takes a shine to you, he likes to be toted, all 22 pounds of his furry self...I've started calling him my little pot bellied pig...calling him names, doesnt seem to faze him at all...He generally gets back at me by attaching his built in switchblades to my boots...thats why I wear steel toed boots...

Hey Jimmy H. you gonna be at Fudds next month???? we will, lord willin and the creek dont rise...dont seem to be much danger of the creek rising nowdays, now does it!!!!!
Anyway, I got something for you, next time I see you...

Ok, time to go...my baby blues are droopin...
Keep the sun at your 6 and ride boldly ride, with the AC on...
Your frien and brethern DOD

PS: Oh and Happy Trails Jimmy I B...

PSS: If you want to conserve water, heres a tip...I put a 5 gallon bucket in the shower...It is a stock feeding bucket, with one side flat, so you can hang it up in a stall, and it wont roll off the nail...costs from 6 dollars to 8, depending on where you buy it...very thick and sturdy...took a shower tonight, and it filled it up, and my showers are "Marine" showers...fast...
Use it to water the pot plants...the soap in the water wont hurt the plants, if anything, it acts as a natural insect repellant...

Well I'm glad we're up and running. It would appear that some order has been restored in the world.

Just a reminder that that august  body, WABEC, will meet tomorrow at Gabby's Bar-B-Que on N. Shepherd between 34th and Loop 610 at 11:45. A decision was made and you all have been drafted to be members of the Committee. So it's your responsibility to be there. See Yall there!

Beau Wann, Jr.

I SECOND THAT COMMOTION...Howdy mine "mean ol baby boomers"...everytime there is a problem with social security or medicare, the main stream drive by media blames it on us "mean ol baby boomers"...and George W. of course...if I had my way, I would opt out of medicare...so far, it has done me more harm than good...

I'm sitting in the dark here at the wann compound, conservin lectricity...doing my part to help in this energy/heat/drought crisis...just emptied the 5 gal bucket I keep in the shower, on the plants...they were appreciative of course...got just one curly Q bulb burning, usin ever bit of 9 watts..."comeon people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together try to love one another right now..." I have hated that song, ever since I first heard it...cant get it out of my haid though...

yes, WABEC meeting for tomorrow...this of course is a scheduled unscheduled meeting...hoping we will have a quantum inattendance for a vote on a secret ballot with show of hands...holding up both hands of course, gets you two votes...Last meeting, I believe Brother Jimmy Brown was in attendance, and he voted on tthe catfish, and said it was very good...after talking to his brother and a son and nephew of his, Brother Jimmy was somewhat of an expert on catfish...

Dont think that Gabbys has catfish, but they do have frahd okra...now, with all due respect to some good frahd catfish, if done properly, frahd okra is pert near just as good...and, make no bones about it, both have no bones...can I get a amen brothers and sisters???

Made the mistake of going to K rogers right at "school gettin out time"(I dont wear a watch, so didnt know what time it was)...every mom in the whirld, was there with every screaming brat in the whirld, I kid you not...I thought the "Texas Chainsawr Masacree" was taking place...lord a mighty, it was nerve wracking...up and down every aisle, one unhappy brat after another...had to give it up...going back at 1 in the AM, after I turn on my sprinklers at midnight...maybe the little monsters will be home in bed...screaming...

Hey Jackie, you wanta be President???? You got at least two votes anyhow...if you get to be president, can I be Department of Defense/Secretary of State/chair of joint chief of staff ??????? Oh, and CNO, and Comandant of the Marine Corp, and head of the Veterans Administration, oh, and CEO of the retirement fund for ALL POLITICIANS???? Dont want to get too involved, but those offices should keep me busy everyday till at least noon...

Robert???? Where's that Ice???? Bring er on brother...any of those CD's of the reunion, go south on ya yet???? I can make a new one for you...

You know, they should implement the CIVIL AIR RAID PATOL again, like they did in WWII...that way the little old ladies and men, could walk around the neighborhood and encourage people to turn their lights off, and other non-essential lectricity guzzlin a pliances...we dont even have the TV on...of course that doesnt matter, cause nothing interesting is on nohow...

Oh, took Cooper to have his stitches out yesterday, that is if yesterday was Monday...dont know why, I just cant keep track of the days, the dates, and time...me and Coop went to the CFISD headquarters and picked up our batches, so we can be a legal volunteer...the ladies there are just so nice, and of course, lavished lots of love and attention on you know who...yeah, Cooper..."when will ah be luved..."

seems that everyone was wearing black...and when we left, they were wearing a sight more than black, they each had a lot of Cooper on em...and I bathed him with real dawgie shampoo and all...brushed him within an inch of my life, using three different brushes...just cant seem to get him to stop shedding...When ol Catahoula Jack saw me washing the Coop, he went and hid...but he skated, because I only had time to give one a bath...got ol Cat Jack in my sights for a date with the shampoo and garden hose, for later...

Heard we had an earthquake up northeast...I used that as an excuse to move some furniture around here at the old homestead...when my beloved came home and saw the change, she said "musta been an earthquake"...to which I replied, "look at the news, one just struck here not too long ago"...somehow, I dont think she believes me...it could happen...I hope not, but maybe a cat .5 (thats dot 5) hurricane could head this direction...if we're lucky...but luck is what we're lacking right about now, at least in the rain dept...

So, yall got your water conservin buckets in your showers???? If not, why not???? dont be wastin water yall...it is a pain and just a tad heavy to haul out, but you gotta do it...what does water weigh???? 8 pounds a gallon, or is it 12 pounds a gallon, well, no matter, it's a heavy subject, no denying that...gonna seen the AIR RAID WARDEN out to check on yall...well, maybe not Susan in Indianapolis, but the minute she gets here for sure...

Ok, time to go...got my miners headlamp on so I dont trip on a cat going down the fershlurginer stairs...gonna get some ice cream, yeaaaaaa!!!! gonna eat it in the dark...how romantic...well, it would be if I could find my beloved in the now darkened wann compound...yall think I'm kiddin about not having any lights on, and no TV...nope, I'm stickin to the spirit of the lawr...no existential use of lectricity...
Your frien and brother,

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Just had my laugh for the morning!  Our forum conscious has stirred us again.  I do keep my thermostat at 79.....not bad, was a little cold last night.  I'm trying to pretend the weather is only 100.  instead of 105-6 promised this weekend and on.  Our trees look horrible out here.

I will start doing the bucket thing.  If you want to see a very interesting water conservation tactic, by a man who knows what he is doing, in the Heights; he is actually filling up a lare cistern type "thang" with moisture from the air.  I saw it on KBTX this morning and could not believe it.  We may all have to do this in the future.  Errrr....does it count if I ran the water hose to my stock tank for 3 hrs??? Those fish need some cool water.  I don't water my yard, it's gone, so I feel justified in doing this for the fish.  I run the sprinkler every other day so the birds and critters can enjoy. I  keep the shades drawn most of the day now....hate this, but don't like my elec. bill either.

They, the tv people caution for us to check and inflate out tires if needed.  Because of the heat there are a lot of blowouts, especially on old tires.

That's it for me....back to the school job.

Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

Beau, I did the "bucket thing" for months a couple of years ago and listened to my whole family laugh and give me trouble over such a ridiculous idea.  When the handle on the bucket broke, I gave it up.  When I showed our latest water bill to Charles, bet he wished I still did the "bucket thing."

Good afternoon Fellow Waltripians. The irregularly scheduled meeting of the WABEC has concluded. Based on decisions made today there will be Whirld Peas in our time. WABEC has it's own president but the term of office is only one month. Beau made the mistake of going to the men's room and was unanimously re-elected. We did raise our glasses in a toast to Jimmy Brown, R.I.P. What a hard drinking bunch. Only soft drinks and water. It was mainly a good group of quick wits but as usual some only half. Ted Jordan and Llynn Roff were first timers. Jim Taylor, Jon Enloe, Beau Wann, DOD and yours truly. Jackie wanted to know who was in attendance. So now all names are duly recorded. Plan on attending next meeting of WABEC. Check the Forum for notices.

Jimmie Lee and DOD I'm going to give your bucket in the shower a try. I'll either water the flawrs or the dawg. I think I'll try a smaller size than 5 gallons though.

Keep on dancing,

Rich LH

Stay Calm, Carry On

Sounds like a great group lunch today -- glad y'all made a toast to Jimmy B and BroBeau, congrats on being President!  Better you than me!!!  Sorry I couldn't make it - but I'll keep trying!

Here's a warm message from Jimmy's cousin - Renee Stevens

I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your kind wishes and mostly for the lovely photos of my cousin Jimmy that you have posted. My mother & Jimmy's mother were sisters and Jimmy would call me about once a week or so and he always told me about the meetings with you all.

He thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and we were so happy that he was getting out and all after Johnnie (his wife) passed away.  My mother also extends her thanks to you all. Our family has always been very close and she will miss Jimmy terribly. We are so glad his last days were happy ones.
Sincerely,

Renee Stevens
or as Jimmy always put it Renay and he elaborated on the "nay" part! lol

RAIN, RAIN, RAIN here in the Waltrip area!  What a relief for yards and trees!  What a blessing for all the animals! What fun for all of us to see DARK CLOUDS, lightning, and hear thunder again! Thank you, Lord for our cleansing!

Richard, you should have been nominated as secretary, b/c you take roll so well!  Congrats Beau on your term as President.  I'm sure you will delegate jobs to those who can do them best!

A reminder, if you have an eye appointment, ask if you show signs of AMA.  If you haven't had your eyes checked in the past year, please make an appointment!

Has anyone heard about Al Kiel?

Off to tutor!

Paige Talley (Meek)

Afternoon Y'all... Couldn't let the day go by without a BD wish to the near end of the August Birthday Month and a BIG get ready for the September bunch.

Of course I'll be practicin' in September for October

The lights went out a couple of times last night. I think they (the lights) forgot about thunder and lightn' and just how much more powerful a lightn' bolt is than a lightn' bulb.

I meandered over to the Silly Sylum at the end of my street to visit Mom earlier this week. Caught up with her just as she had taken a nasty spill. Bumped her head but didn't break her bones again. While she was sprawled out on the floor, she kept telling the nurses that if she had just been living at home by herself this would never have happened. Hmmmmmmmmm

Her hard headed independent mind (which does not comprehend most of the time) and very frail body remind me of myself but without the "hard headedness" and frail body. Of course the body is not exactly what it used to be and certainly won't accomplish the fetes of yesterday, but often I think I can and actually attempt to fix, carry, tug and tote, only to discover the "frailer" parts of me. I too thought about the bucket in the shower, but soon figured out that I couldn't lift it and abandoned the thought.

School is on and the BIG school, grocery store and eaters are filling up with rude "wanna-be adults". The streets are jammed with folks who have not owned, driven or even sat in a vehicle before. The little schools are filled with anxious little "wanna be grown-ups" and join their Mom's and siblings in the same grocery stores and eaters. Unlike Beau, it does no good to go to the grocery store at 1:00 a.m. cause the "wanna be adults" are up all night and think the grocery store is the social Mecca of the town. Hopefully they will soon learn it is Football and not Food on which Aggies thrive.

Now I can't sign off without saying that their are some great, courteous and good drivers around town. Church will be full Sunday with new and returning students. Teachers that dedicate themselves will be guiding, directing and teaching my grandchildren to achieve in the manner to which I would please me. Encouragement and hope abounds.

So be hardheaded and independent, keep the body fit; drive safely and smile...

It's good for the soul!

Teddie Jordan

Joe Tusa Stadium. I can't think of a more fitting name for the historic stadium or a more fitting tribute to a great man who as a coach, an assistant principal, an athletic director, and as a role model, had so much to do with the lives of countless young people.

I was so glad to see him attend our 45th reunion. It was the first time I had seen him since high school. I told him with tears in my eyes how much I appreciated his "corrections" to my behavior. It was mainly for simple stuff, like smarting off to a teacher and once or twice skipping school for a day, once to work at the grocery store and once to go swimming in Spring Creek with some other boys. Another time I got to visit with him about an altercation I had in the hallway between classes with another testosterone charged boy, and in another instance it seems the rear tires on my '55 Chevrolet made a  loud squealing noise in the school parking lot from lack of traction and over application of horsepower. By my junior and senior year he and my mom unfortunately were on a first name basis.  He asked how my life had turned out and I told him that thanks to him and my parents showing me the way, it had turned out good so far.

On several of those occasions he had given me the option of swats or suspension. I always took the swats because the last thing in the world I wanted to do was disappoint my parents. And though the swats were tough, they wouldn't find out about my infractions that way. I told him that I had swats from a lot of teachers and coaches and other administrators at Black and Waltrip,  but that he was hands down the best. I probably shouldn't have said it, although I meant it as a compliment, because it seemed to embarass him that I brought it up. There were several other guys standing there when we had the conversation, and they were nodding their heads in agreement, but I guess in these times being good at old fashioned corporal punishment is something he'd rather forget. But he was, hands down or maybe something else down, the best by far. The blisters would last for at least two weeks. Mr. Madeley at Black was next best, but that's another story.

But the difference in Mr. Tusa and many of the the others was that even when he would punish you, you always knew why, and he always still treated you before and after with respect.

You can bet that I'll be writing a letter in support of the idea of honoring Joe Tusa. And it turns out that two members of the committee, Brenda and Billy Spillman, are old friends of mine and classmates of my brother Harry at Reagan.

Howdy mine Waltripian  brothers and sisters,
Ol Lumpy, and Huckleberry hound back from the jungles of Borneo...wow, it was hummmmmidddd...Ol Huckleberry aka Cooper, and I watered the Meek Memorial orchard this eeenin...Changing my name to lumpy...opened the back door of the old ford truck, to let Huckleberry out, and bashed my head in, producing a lump...sometimes, I just wonder about myself, and other times just wonder why...

wouldnt you know it, plant an orchard, have a drought...they say, and you know who they is, they say that one more year of this, and it will be worse than the 7 year drough we had from 1950 to 1957...funny, I dont remember it being particularly dry during that period...I do know, that when it rained hard, DuBarry would fill up and we would swimm in it, sort of...seemed like it did that alot...saw a bunch of kids swimming in white oak bayou this afternoon...yuk...I certainly never did anything like that when I was a wee lad...yeah right!!!!

The Guatamalans were there, shouting down the devil and praising the Lord...They rent our church for their services...We are glad they do too...they have more than the usual 25 suspects that we have...they are a very nice and gracious people...glad to have em...I did get them wet this eening...I set a sprinkler by one of the back doors, not knowing that they used that door...they went in and out it, and just walked through the water and never complained...It's not enough that I dump everything in the drink here at the wann compound, I have to cause an international incident with Guatamala..."Houston man Drowns Guatamalan Church Goers" film at 11...Oh great, wonder if there's another country I can piss off...one is only glad to be of service...to be sure...

Nah, they were very sweet and gracious...I just kept hollaring "vaya con Dios" at em...they just grinned and kept on moving...

Ol huckleberry hound, got in his spot in the Olive tree section...he likes laying in a swale, or dip in the ground...Just snoozed most of the time...when he was awake, he just grinned at me...

Had the burglar alarm people out installing a siren...seems they wont serve us unless we have a siren in the house so that we will know a intruder has intruded...and I might add, made a grave mistake by being intrusive...I told the BA people that I didnt need a siren, that I had two dogs that would bark to high heaven should some unfortunate soul wander in off the streets...but that the dogs were the least of their problems...the alarm company insisted that we have a siren, or they would have to disconnect the alarm and we not be covered...I only got the stupid alarm because it lowers our insurance premium...

The alarm guy hooked the siren up and tested it, and then left...bout 5 minutes later, up drives HPD saying that the panic alarm went off...nice to know that they got there so fast...cleared that problem up with john law, and he went on his merry way...nice guy...

So now we have a siren....the tech turned it way down, and it is in a closet, so I cant hear it...I didnt want the cats and dogs to hear it either, because it makes em crazy, and they are crazy enough...siren went off, and none of the critters even noticed it...

WABEC meeting was a success...had a quantum...nominated Richard for president...seconded, all in favor say aye..."AYE"...all opposed???? Seeing as there were no nays, Richard is now acting defacto quid pro quo and genuine bone fidee President of the WABEC...amen...blackjacks, no take backs...we did a lot of discussin of many issues...we all agreed that it shouldnt be this hot...formed a committee to study the hot heat...as Rich said, we gave a toast to our dear departed member Jimmy Brown...

Formed another committee to determin whether to change the name of Waltrip or not...I sort of like WABEC HIGH...has sort of a high tech ring to it, dontcha think!!!I also discussed amongst myself, that changing the name of Delmar stadium to Joe Tusa Stadium was and is not a good idear...why cant we just leave it alone???? I think if they change the name at all, it should be to John Enloe Stadium, or how about John Wayne Stadium...Roy Rogers???? Trigger???? I know, Huckleberry Hound Stadium...yeah, thats the ticket...

Well, anyway, I have voiced my preferences, so now I'm out of it...pretty much out of it most of the time...yall will be happy to note, I have not dropped anything in the Drink for weeks now...I did get the country of Guatamala, wet though...maybe they'll name a hurricane after me...

Time for me to enter the sleep chamber...maybe I can do so without waking any of the critters...
106 for tomorrow and 107 for Saturday...heaven help us...

It was so nice and pleasant this morn...actually did the yard in the middle of the day...instead of at midnight, like I have been...

Yea Jimmy Lee...the bucket in the shower is a good idear, but kinda bulky and tricky to move without spilling it...yall try it some time...whats a liitle work for us Waltrip Graduates...most of us have been working since before we were teenagers...we waste about 5 to 6 gallons everytime we take a shower...thats 10 gallons a day if you take two showers, 70 gallons a week, and 3,640 a year, and 36,400 gallons a year...man, thats a lot...We at the WABEC formed a committee to study the 5 gallon bucket rule...results at the next meeting...

Gabbys food is good...Hamburgers are very good...the Hamburger Study Committee, determined that we they would need at least two or three more meetings at Gabbys before they rendered their ruling...
Happy trails, happy AIR CONDITIONED trails...

Good mornin' Waltripians, I will continue to maintain that Beau is the President of WABEC! (you know if you say something often enough people believe it). Ah Mr. President I think you can support the Joe Tusa Proposal and not run afoul of your don't change anything position. If you read the email we received yesterday the proposal is to rename the entire complex of stadiums over on Mangum & Dacoma the Joe Tusa Athletic Complex. No name changes on the stadiums. Based on Ted Jordans comments about corporal punishment delivered by Mr. Tusa I'm certainly glad I never experienced that. I will definitely be sending a letter of support. I was one of Mr. Tusa's office assistants for two years so I got to know him a bit. One of the finest men I've known. I did notice that when I graduated in 1965, Mr. Tusa left also. I wonder if he thought it's just not going to get any better or please let me out of here, hhhmmm?

Everyone have a great weekend and........

Keep on dancing,

Rich LH

If the decision to rename Delmar complex the "Joe Tusa Complex", came down to my vote, I would have to cast my vote in another direction...Now, there are some of youse youtes out there that have said "he is the finest man I ever met" ...maybe that would be the case, if he were the ONLY one you ever met...the finest man dept has already been occupoddo by TJ bestowed on by the likes of DD...and I hold a lot of admiration and respect for both of those men and fellow classmates...just as I hold a lot of respect for just about every member of our class...but, yall are overlooking some really fine and important people that you could throw in the mix...

How about "The Mattress Mack" complex...he has really done a lot for the Houston, community...I havent heard a word about what JT has done for Houston...Hakeem Olajuan (sp)..."Clyde Drexler"...or how bout "PHI SLAMMA JAMMA" complex..."Elvin Hayes" ...the aforementioned and University of Houston has done a lot to put Houston in the "big leagues of college sports"...

"Andre Ware Sports Complex" after all, he did win the Heisman..."David Klingler" and "Kevin Kolb"...the three of those UH quarterbacks combined probably equal all other QBs in the whirld...Andre Ware broke college records, and David Klingler broke Andre Wares, and Kevin Kolb broke both of their records...at least thats what me beloved says...she is a staunch UH Supporter...I kind of like HCC...I was Captain of the Curling team for 25 years for crying out loud...

How about Guy V Lewis???? Everyone agrees, that he should have been abducted in the College Basketball hall of fame, but so far, hasnt been, un less I was out of town when he was abducted...He is a really great guy, hence the first name GUY...how about Bill Yeoman???? He and Guy were institutionalized of U of H...you cant say their names without thinking of UH, unless you are from UT or A&M, then you probably dont even know where Houston is...JUST FUNNIN YA, LIGHTEN UP...

OK ok, here's an oldie but moldie, Louie Welch, hishonorhisownself...after all, it was HEwho got Whiteoak bayou paved whilst carrying out the duties of MAYOR of Houton...and as everybody knows, if WO bayou hadnt been paved, the land would have eroded west to the RR tracks at magnum, and east to Rosslyn...then where would we be now...most of yall woulda been swept down to the gulf O mexico by now if not for hishonor..."The Louie Welch complex"...has a certain ring to it, eh hoser....

Ok, ok, here's one we can all agree on, "The Sheila Jackson Lee Complex"...now thar is a idear whose time is come...and besides, it is in her district...at least for now...seems the lines of disembarkation have been redrawn and we are suppose to be getting Ted Poe...when that happens, we can name it after him...see how fair and balanced and impartial we all can be...

My goodness, I have a plethora of names to add to the fray...but I will stop here...

Hey Lynn in Hearne, just kidding about the aggies...I heard they were moving to Florida, to the AEC!!!! Is that true???? What will happen to College Station if they move???? Will they still be called the Texas Aggies, or the Texas Aggies of Florida???? kinda like UT at El Paso...Miami at Ohio...HCC of Dallas...

I dont know about anyone else, but I miss the old Southwest Conference...milk drop moe...Curly Fox and Texas Ruby...Huckleberry Hound...well, not him, since I'm living with ol Huckleberry...
Mangum SuperValu...Weingartens...Kaplans...Jennys Flawr shop...Wyatts Cafeteria...Woolworths...lightning bugs...

You know what I wish???? I wish I had a big ol piece of chocolate cake and a cup o joe...and thou...
Guess I will sing off...got to get my supplies ready for a Saturday Breakfast...hmmm yum...yall are probably gonna be wishing you were at my house come sunup...how you like your eggs????
I know, Cooked, right???? Well, that they will be..

As they say in the West, Sayonara little doggies...and amen...
Your frien and bretheren..."The DOD Sports Complex"

Jackie: There is, perhaps, some confusion on the Joe Tusa letter. There is no changing of the stadiums names. We are trying to get the entire complex out there called Joe Tusa Athletic Facility. None of the stadium names will be changed. thanks jc
