Such sad news - just a great sweet guy

We were all with him Tuesday (August 9) at Fuddrucker's and he seemed so happy to be there as always, especially he had brought a new lady friend, Judith Onisiforou.  I have a great picture of them on the Fuddrucker tab and am attaching here.  His wife died last year in August with cancer.

Jimmy, God Bless and rest in peace!

A fatal wreck on Loop 336 Saturday afternoon (August 13, 2011) has left a family in mourning, and several others recovering from serious injuries.

James Ira Brown, 64, of Spring, died from a head-on collision when the driver of a 2001 Dodge half-ton pick-up truck – heading east on Loop 336 in Conroe – attempted to pass a vehicle in front him.

The driver of the Dodge truck crossed over into the westbound lane of traffic, where the driver hit Brown’s white 2011 Nissan Altima, according to Lt. Jon Bucholtz, of Conroe Police Department.

Brown died at the scene shortly after 1:20 p.m. Saturday.

Brown was driving with three other passengers, including his 16-year-old granddaughter, Brown’s cousin Midge Gorman said. The other passengers were identified by Bucholtz as 64-year-old Judith Onisiforou, and her 34-year-old daughter Christine.

Gorman said that Brown had recently dealt with the death of his wife, and she believes her cousin had been dating Judith Onisforou.

“He was a man with a huge heart,” Gorman said. “He was a father, grandfather, stepfather, and friend ... he was a kind and gentle man.”

Gorman said that Brown, known as “Jimmy” to family and friends, was the center of their family, and his death hits hard.

“You have no idea what he meant to us,” said Gorman. “He raised his granddaughter ... there were a lot of people depending on him.”

Bucholtz said an investigation is underway, and blood testing of the other driver, identified as 24-year-old Matthew Moore, would take place to determine if there were other factors in the crash.

“(The driver) was potentially driving recklessly, passing vehicles when inappropriate. It is an open passing zone, but (the lane) apparently wasn’t clear,” Buckholtz said.

Bucholtz said that Moore was taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center.

“There’s no reason to suspect intoxication yet,” Bucholtz said. “There will be a lot going into it, we have to determine the vehicle speed.”

Moore was still in Memorial Hermann– Texas Medical Center as of Sunday night.

Fatal Crashes, Fire and EMS, Local / Area News

Approximately 1:30p.m. Saturday a major accident was dispatched near Carl Barton Park on South Loop 336 near FM 1314. When MCHD arrived they found James Brown, 65, of Spring deceased on the scene. A front seat passenger in the 2011 Nissan Altuma, Judith Onisiforou, 64, also of Spring was in critical condition and taken to Hermann Woodlands.

Judith Onisforou has also now passed away due to her injuries.

In the rear of that vehicle was James Brown's granddaughter (16-year-old) who was in serious condition and Christine Onisiforou, 34, also of Spring was transported in serious condition.

Matthew Moore, 23 was transported in critical condition when he was removed from his 2001 Dodge pickup and his passenger Houston Warren refused medical treatment.

According to Conroe Police Lt. Jon Buckholtz, Moore was eastbound on South Loop 336 following cars closely and then went into the westbound lane to pass several vehicles. Unable to get back into the eastbound lane when he met the Nissan he swerved to the left.

The driver of the Nissan seeing the truck in his lane swerved to the right. Both struck head-on in the ditch.

Several transported are expected to be transferred to Hermann Hospital in Houston.

The Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney was sent to the scene of the investigation. A sample of blood was drawn from Moore and charges are pending further investigation.

I never really knew Jimmy while at Waltrip and was just getting to know him through our visits at the monthly Fudd's get togethers. He had recently lost his wife and you could tell that it had hit him hard. But like so many of us, Fran and I had come to look forward to seeing him each month. He had a quiet way about him, but always with a slight grin, and you could tell he was just a real nice guy, and that he really needed to reconnect at that critical time in his life.

So sorry for his sudden death and the tragic circumstances. We had just been with him and his new friend Judith four nights before at Fudd's. We attended his service and you could tell how very much he meant to his entire family.

Rest in peace Jimmy.
