Robert Manson Boswell Obituary

Robert Manson Boswell, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend, passed away in his home in Granite Shoals, TX on October 17, 2022.

Robbie was born November 4, 1944, in Berkeley, CA, the first of Robert and Agnes Boswell’s five children.  He grew up in Houston, TX, attended Garden Oaks neighborhood schools, played sports and several musical instruments, and made lifetime friends.  He rarely missed a reunion of the Waltrip High School class of 1964.

After a successful sales career working for his father at the G. R. Haley Company in the Dallas/ Grapevine area, Robbie left the corporate world.  He went back to school to become a marine mechanic and relocated to the lakes of the Texas Hill Country where he could enjoy the things he loved: hunting with his brother, Peck, and golfing with friends.  In his 40s, he took up competitive barefoot water-skiing and excelled nationally. Some of his best times were spent in a Texas/Colorado deer blind and on the Pedernales with the PPC!

His daughter Kristen describes him perfectly. “My Dad was a happy soul; he loved his family, his friends, God, and his country.  Like his parents, he saw the beauty in nature, and he LOVED the Lone Star State.”

Robbie was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, John McMurray.                           He is survived by his daughters Kristen Boswell Heller, husband Chad Heller, and daughters, Kate and Abby; Gretchen McMullin, husband Forbes McMullin, and children William, Forbes and Julia; brother Edward “Peck” Boswell, wife Mary and family; sisters Christina Boswell Sillavan and family, Catherine Boswell McMurray, husband David McMurray and family, Laura Boswell Fitzpatrick and family; Aunt Mary Nell “Doodlebug” Boswell Pettitt; and his long-time companion and best friend Shirley LaVigne and her loving family.

To old friend Robbie, I was very sad to learn of your passing last week. I have thoroughly enjoyed our friendship through the years and am thankful that you and I got to catch up and have a lot of time together as pall bearers at Beau's funeral this past year. I also dug up this photo of you and Beau and Jimmy Stockton and Lynn Prewit and Jimmy Robinson at our Old Fart's dove hunt at our place in South Texas a few years ago. Rest In Peace and enjoy your heavenly reunions with beloved family and Labs. Until we get together again up there. I am convinced that Jackie has come up with regular heavenly reunions to greet '64 newcomers up there.
