I hope that all who are dealing with illnesses and infirmities get well very soon It's amazing how much came up all at once.

On a lighter note I know all the UH exes out there are elated since the Coougars won their conference tournament today. That means they get an invitation to the NCAA tournament. Their first appearance since 1992. SFA and SHSU play for their tournament championship with an NCAA berth at stake. They're playing in Katy at 3:00 so it's not too late to rush out their! My favorites, the HBU Huskies play South Dakota for their tournament championship tonight. Go Huskies!!!

Beau I hope you and Coop were back out on dawn patrol this morning. First because it was such a glorius morning and second so you could restore order along Cole Crick!!!

I hope everyone gets outside this weekend and enjoys this marvelous spring weather.

Oh yeah, GO HUSKIES !!!!

I enjoyed the out of doors today pulling lots of weeds, I hope the St Augustine grass is strong enough to take over again. The weather was ideal for gluing some guitar parts together so I did a little if that too. My shop is a mess. I think I need a shop at least twice as big...or maybe I should throw half of my stuff away. More of the same tomorrow!

Anyone tried the new self-checkout stations at the post office for the weighing/metering of overweight mail?

Yesterday I was waiting in line at the post office to have a my 1040 income tax weighed at the counter when a postal employee approached and asked what I needed done, whereupon I told him. He cheerfully asked if I wanted to see the new self-checkout system and I agreed--ANYTHING to speed up the current snail paced process.

Well, just to weigh and print out a metered label takes something like 12 to 15 different prompt screens!!!!
Each screen requires reading and responding to 2 to 3 questions each!!!! Folks, it takes forever to do this especially with some of the questions being of a rather ambiguous nature requiring a translation.

Can you just imagine the length of this line when an 80-year old half blind person ponies up here to try this thing out? I guess the post office's rationale is "you can wait here for 25 minutes or in the old counter line for 25 minutes--take your pick because we really don't give a damn how long you are in here.

Just a harbinger of things to come with health care courtesy of your caring, know-it-all government.

Goods news about Pat Wilcox Prewit's heart surgery per Teddie Jordan's email --

Jackie,
I went and sat with Lynn this morning while Pat was in surgery and have the following report:

"Pat's heart surgery this morning took about 4 hours and according to the surgeon was a success. They did replace the one heart valve but did not have to replace the second valve they were concerned about. She is in recovery now and will be for most of the afternoon. She will then be moved to a room, and is expected to remain in the hospital for several days, as she will be in quite a bit of discomfort.

Pat and Lynn want to thank all of you for keeping them in your thoughts and prayers and ask that you continue to do so."

Best Regards,
Teddie

Paige Talley (Meek)

WOW !!! Is this a whirlwind or something?

Cracked one eye open, but it was still dark. Before I could get it shut again the alarm blared and scared me out of my wits. You see the alarm is my old cell phone. I still use it because it is already set with all the times on all the days I want. The new phone is too hard to understand much less set the alarms. Sooooooo, it seems that I had laid the phone/alarm under my pillow and as I am trying to get that eye closed again... well you can see how it my have startled me a bit.

Wide eyed now, and pitch dark outside, I wonder what that noise might be... something thrashing in the attic? on the roof? on the porch? Burglars in the dark of dawn? Great, I wonder if they would like some coffee. I peek out. It is a herd of raccoons (do raccoons herd? Beau? BEAU!!! Help me out here) The few that were here over the weekend that tried to eat the siding off the side of the house above the porch seem to have brought their cousins to help remove the temporary boards that the landlord put up Sunday to keep them from dismantling the wall. So there they were, on the porch lid, pulling nails with those raccoon hammers and removing the temporary barrier.

I brought everyone coffee and suggested that they all go back under the bathtub and put this crazy attic idea to bed. It was almost dawn and time to call it a night.

Finally, I got into the "better get ready and get out of here" mode. Now you girls know that it takes a bit of planning to accomplish the "get out of here" part of that plan, but I made it and was at the CPA's at the appointed time. I have collected all the required documents that will keep the _ _ _ (I don't like to use those initials out loud anymore) off the door steps for another year. I pile it all in front seat and just get it all buckled in when the whirlwind hits. My tummy is unsettled and I don't really feel so good. Dizzy and yuk I am head home. Taxes, computers and the Chinese can wait.

I was down for the count and blessedly slept until about 1 o'clock. A bit of soup while I logged into to work and took care of the boys down at the office. Felt pretty good... probably just a touch of raccoon fever. I'm off to the post office and on to the office. It is chilly and raining and windy... was it that way earlier???

NOW WHAT? The heater in the ol' Expedition is blowin' cold air. My brain is thinkin' (man, that hurts alot) and out loud in there somewhere it thinks --- "heater - blowin' cold - water - coolant = OMGosh = NO COOLANT ... My brain is yelling ... GET OFF THE ROAD! NOW! QUICK! I just made it to a safe place when the temp needle climbed to the top and almost over to the oil gauge.
Whew... safe!

Now it is raining a frog stranglin' gully washer. So being a girl, I call for HELP!!!!!!! I want to take a moment here to thank those folks (who were not home) for keeping their garden hose neatly rolled and hung by the front porch. I tried to leave a thank you note, but the ink ran in rivulets on the wet newspaper I was using for a thank you card. So thank you to those folks for their kindness and the use of their garden hose. The long of this tale is that the Expedition is back at Olympic in Bryan for a look see... I am afoot.

Kids have proven to be an asset these many years and they do not disappoint now... Walt will be picking me up and escorting me to and from work for a few days.

Gotta love 'um
Ya'll be pure, ya hear!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Goot EEfening myne ramalamians,
Sorry I been off the forum! Been out of town, as in not in town, as in not home!!! After myne sojorn into the unjustice system, I needed to get to the country, and to the country I did get!!!

Glad to hear Lynns wife Pat is doing ok!

Just got back in to H town from Normange in the high country, and what do I find!!!! Someones been tamperin with the time system!!! I HATE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!!!!!
Daylight savings is not valid in the country!!!
I have no clocks there, no TV, no internet, no email, no nothing electronical or digical, i barely have electrical lights!!! When it gets dark, you go to bed, when it gets light, you get up and get to work!!!

Me and Coop went by ourselves either last thursday or friday! Left John Boy with DW to protect her whilst I was away!!! If some idjit moron was to actually try to mess with DW, ol John Boy would eat their eyeballs out and then hurt em real bad! He loves DW!!!!
Me and Coop went into town the first day we were in the country, and got supplies ie food and drink and dessert, and visited the M and M feed store and the Hardware store! Its a good thing to make a list of things, especially if you have to go into bryan or College station, or Madisonville! Bryan has the most stores and is more better! Although Madisonville has Buccees!!!

Had to get a couple of screws at the Normange hardware, total of .22 cents! Then visited M and M feed store and get the lowdown on whats been going since the last time I was there! Lots of rain in the area, duh!!! One of the patrons, Earl, said his kat had kittens, and didnt I want some!!! Uh...not just no, shucky darn no!!! I love em, but already got my quota O kats and dawgs!!!
If we lived there, I wouldnt mind a couple o barn cats to help with any of the meeces that might come a callin!!!

Ed Johnson said his dawg had puppies and didnt I want some!!!! UH...GUYS...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I can tell I'm gonna have to quit hanging around the feed store! But they do have a table and chairs for us old codgers to chew the fat!!! I think I am the onliest one that doesnt chew terbaccy or dip snuff! Nasty stuff that!!! They also dont make as good a coffee as I do, but I dont want to hurt their feelings, so I just grin and drink it!!!!

Lots o horses and cattle for sale! Dave Lee says he gots lots o spring calves and goats and just about any other livestock I might want! I keep telling them, I'm not ready yet, Still have to fence in the south pasture, and just not ready yet! Need to do other more important work first!!! Like, move the south gate in about 16 feet, and put in a north gate, then have several loads of crushed stone brought in, and build a larger barn, etc etc etc...

Friday, after my visit to the feed store and hardware store, went to Brookshire brothers for some food and beverages! For a small town, their prices are pretty good! You can get some bargains on stuff! They even have a wine and beer alcove! The store is about the size of my house, but I like it! I got all kinds o great eatin stuff, and all of it bad for me too! Oh well, who ya gonna call??? Bein in the country, cancels out any bad stuff that you eat!!!

Ol coop, aka goober, slept the whole time I was in Brookshire brothers! He did go in the feed store with me though! Them ol boys there, like him alot! I guess, cause he doesnt do anything, but sit and grin! He will eat your donut if you let him! He pretty much stays out of trouble, he kind of leaves that dept to me! He did lick a couple of the deer blocks! Jim Bob told me if he did it again, I was gonna have to buy em! I think he was just kidding, but I didnt need half dozen deer blocks, Sooooo, me and Goober decided to head on out! Thanked Jim bob for the coffee and conversation and donuts and off we go on our appointed rounds!

Waved goodbye to downtown Normangee, and headed back to Whiskey River Ranch (the name my son named the ranch)!
He also has several internet mail order companies, of which one is named Whiskey River Tactical, www.whiskeyrivertactical.com, and www.whiskeyriverranch.com, and also his mainest company, www.bayoucityhardware.com! Best prices on hardware you can find!
Guess I got sidetracked there, Me? Nah, not me!!!!

So me and Goober get back to the ranch, and the place is just soaked from all the rain we have had over the last cou;ple of months! At least 6 inches of water at the south gate! Had to back up into one of Mrs Perrys driveways and get a running start, so I didnt get stuck! unlocked the gate and swung it open, and got back in the truck and took off, and slid through the gate and went sideways down the road! Finally got er under control, and stopped on a high dryer spot, and got out and walked back to the gate to locker down for the night!!!

Drive on up the road, turned left at the gas tank and around behind the barn, and over between the two trailers, and closer to the big one than I did earlier!
That ol ford truck, sank like a stone in that soft earth!
I said, "oh no" and "goodness gracious", things like that!!!! Seems my front wheels sank into the trench where we ran the water pipe last summer, and the back wheels just started spinning! Truck sank down to the axels!!! I could not believe it! I hate being stuck, like anyone really does, duh!!!!!

So, after I teach Goober some new cuss words, I get out and unload the groceries! One good thing, ol coop didnt have as far to jump down out of the backseat as he usually did!!! I didnt even have to get the stool for him! Put the groceries away, and coop jumped up into the trailer and promptly went to sleep on the couch! I swear, that ol boy is just a ball of fire sometimes! why, he went right on in the door, and up on the couch and was snoring before I got the groceries put away, and got a pot of coffee started! (Got to have my coffee)!!!

I grab a shovel from the barn, and start digging the mud out from around the wheels, and put some bricks under the back wheels! I cranker up, and one back wheel just spins, and slinging mud all to hell and gone!!!!
It aint movin! Oh great, guess I aint gonna go to the dance tonight! (There is no dance, that I know of, but it sounded good) So here I am, stranded in the middle of nowhere, stuck in the fershlerginer mud! Truck stuck in the muck!!! DW and Kevin are not slated to come up till Sunday afternoon! Its not a good feeling, knowing I am not going to be able to leave when I want! Isnt that something??? Here is a place I want to be, but now that I am here, and CANNOT leave, I get panicky! What If I get sick, or have a heartattack, or something???? I'm just out o luck!

Give DW and Kevin a call and inform em of my perdicament! Kevin being a Dodge guy, was just giving me all kinds of grief for having a ford! So, here I sit, got a fire going, and a good cigar, and some Gentleman Jack on ice, and my faithful companion Goober! What more could a man want, eh??? The wind was just howling all day, and come dusk, it is as still as Goober sleeping on the couch! So, me and Goob chilled out by the fire, and watch the stars come out and wink at us! My ol truck looked like a lowrider there in the firelight!!! Damned old stinky ford piece o junk! Long about 8 or 9, me and coop repaired to the trailer and closed up the mountain!

I popped a DVD in the player and watched The Magnificent 7 for the umpteenth time! STarted on "Support Your local Sherrif", and fell asleep!!! Had the sound turned down, and just read the closed caption, so I didnt know I fell asleep, until Goober started snoring, and running in his sleep!!!!
Dawn came early!!! (dont it usually???) Me and Coop got up and I fixed us bacon and eggs and grits and biscuits and stuff! Ol Goob sure is attentive when it comes to bacon and eggs! Hells bells, me too!!!
After breakfast, me and me sidekick, go off on fence patrol! Big tree was knocked down in the storm on the east side of the place! Fell to the fence, but not on it! Whew, that was lucky!!! Gonna have a lot of firewood for next winter!!!

Checked the feeders and cameras, everything cool! lots o deer and hog tracks and coons and possums and armadillo!
Me and goober were priviliged to watch Mom and Pop redtail hawk soaring and looking for food! Then some ugly crows came into the picture, and started harrassing the hawks! Sounds like a mismatch to me! they were wanting the hawks to fly back to the nest, so the crows could eat junior or an omlet if junior hadnt hatched yet!
Or at least that was the only reason I could think of as to why 3 crows would attack a hawk, since the hawks had nothing in their talons! A crow will harrass a hawk if they see he has dinner on the table so to speak!!!

But this time they were empty taloned! Me and coop just marveled at the aerial show! One of those crows was getting a mite close to one of the hawks, when he dove into and tried to peck the hawk! That ol hawk, turned upside down, flying at mach 1 mind you, and snatched that crow out of the sky with his razor sharp talons!
Thatll learn them crows some manners, for sure!!!!
Me and ol coop just cheered! If the hawks didnt have dinner for junior before, they do now!!! Looks like them ol hawks will be eatin crow, so to speak!!!!

I woulda blasted them crows to hell and gone, if I could a got a clear shot, and not endangered the hawks, but, coulda woulda shoulda!!!! It turned out ok, at least for the hawks anyway!!!
Me and coop walked down to the south gate, across from Mrs Perrys, and decided to walk down the road, since we couldnt drive down it!!! Mrs Perry has cows and horses, and donkeys and mules etc! she has two Golden retriever puppies and a couple o cats, and a yippy yappy dawg, that I only heard and didnt see! Oh, and the old goat has some goats too!!!

Me and Coop was standing at her fence, and there was one of her mules just standing there looking...like a mule, I guess!!! So I leaned on the fence post, and said hello! (if leon can talk to a mule, so can I) The mule didnt respond, which I thought rude!!! So, I said hello again, and then just decided to talk about the weather, and the fact that my truck was stuck and what we had for breakfast etc! Still the mule said nothing, just sorta stared at me! Kinda the way Coop was staring at me...incredulously!!! Now Ol coop was just sitting in the road next to me and looking up at me with a queer sort of look, like I have lost my marbles! Yeah, I probably did lose em, somewhere in the mud that was holding my truck hostage!

So, I am carrying on quite a lengthy conversation withthe stuck up mule, (you do that in the country, when there aint no other human to converse with)! Bout the time I'm telling the mule about my aches and pains, out comes Mrs Perry! "Say boy, are you talking to my mule"??? she says kind of sassy!!! I thought for a minute, and decided I'd tell her the truth, "No ma am, I'm just talkng to myself" I lied!!! "Well, it shore looked to me like you was talking to my mule" she insisted!!! "Now, that ol mule dont say much, especially to strangers, and they dont come any stranger than you" she cackled!!! "you and yore dawg ever come across that pig friend of yourn" she asked!!! Before I could come up with something clever, she added, "Boy, if you aint Dr Doolittle, yore a close second" she cackled! "Like I said before, you shore make friends easy dont you" she continued! "wont be long before you'll have a passel o friends out here" she cackled some more!!!

"Ifin you get that ol mule to talk, ask him where he hid the harness" she said almost in hysterics!!! I sure am glad she was having fun at my expense! Glad I could brighten someones day for em!
She turned to go back in the house, when she turned back around and said, "why dont you see ifin you can talk them chickens into laying more eggs for me"!!!!! (Say you old bat, dont you have a bible to read or something)?
She opened the door, and gave us one last glance, and said, "oh, the mules name is Francis"! This of course brought howls of laughter from her and the chickens and Francis! "Coop, if you make one sound, or look at me and grin, I'm gonna put hot sauce on your dog biscuit"

Well, time passes, and I mowed part of the south pasture, and cut down some more of the mean hateful mesquite trees! Man, those thorns are viscious!!!!
Seein as how I was captivated, Kevin and DW came a day early! they were worried about me! I already had some chokers and shackles hooked to the back of my stinky old ford, waiting for Kevin and his dodge! He and the kids pull up, with DW rat behind em! Brought me a big ol fine burger and fries from K and T grocers, beverage barn and filling station!!! Those burgers are GREAT!!!! So, after the burger, I hook up ol blue to kevins dodge, and we both get in! Not in the same truck, but both trucks!
Kevin pulls the chokers taut, and I put er in reverse, and off we go! That ol dodge, pulled me out with the greatest of ease! Kinda like I wasnt stuck at all!!!

Boy, I'll never hear the end of that! If obumer hadnt bought chrysler, I'd trade my ford for a dodge! I'm due for ssome new tires, think I'll get some with some teeth on em, or at least some mud treads!!! We did a lot of work! Haley and her friend Anna drove the carry all golf cart all over the ranch honking the bicycle horn I put on it for haley! I'll bet they put a hundred miles on it whilst we all worked on stuff!

DW and Kevin and the kids left the next day, but I stayed till today!!! Me and Coop got in early, and of course he was worn out from sleeping all the way back, so up on the couch he jumped!!! I dont know how he can keep up such a pace! DW was out at Haleys in Katy, painting her room pink! yea!!!! I got all freshened up, and hit the sack for a little shuteye!!! Woke up sometime, duh, took coop out on patrol and checked cole crick and the daffy ducks and cooty coots! Alls quiet on the western front! Took John boy next out on patrol, him and his back pack! Nothing unusual! reported same!!!

the girls surprised me, and haley came back with DW! I dont like surprises, but I love that one!!! I just love that child...oh, and DW too!!! We had some sort of pasta for dinner, and then DW and Haley whipped us up some BROWNIES...YEAAAAAAAAAA!!! I whipped us up some A number 1 coffee!!!! Ok, time to tuck my sweet darlin into bed! Gonna let her have my side, and I'll sleep on the couch with Goober!
Glad to see all the folks on the forum! Paige, me and Coop are thinking good thoughts about your truck! If we win the lotto, Coop says he will buy you a new one!

Richard, glad to see you are supporting the capitalist system! Keep er going!!!
Burge, glad you are healing!!!
So without further adieu or aplomb
heretofore notwithstanding (lawyer speak)
Keep the sun at your 6 and dont be a stick in the mud, and get stuck in the mud!

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Hey all, I've been enjoying Spring Break, or so I think. Day #3 and I've been enjoying babysitting the Pastor's kids Sat and Sun, mine Mon. and Tues, with a few hours thrown in for today, then the rest of the week is mine, all mine!

Beau, think of me as I twist ties on the T-bars for the rest of the week. I'm going to have a long awaited shopping day in Bryan tomorrow. First priority!

Yesterday was a bone-chilling day all day for me, with interminable rain adding to the chill and a grandson who didn't want the heat turned up and wearing short sleeve and shorts...interesting how temp affects everyone differently. Got a laugh about the "getting stuck in Spring, I used to do it once a year here and suffer the consequences from my brother in law as he pulled me out. The ground just sops up water looking dry enough to drive on!

Lynn, glad that Pat is on the mend, sorry to hear of her emergency, we can't do without you and her.

Happy St. Paddy's Day everyone! Yes, I'm wearing green all day.

Beau, I'm glad that you're trying to develop a dialog with your neighbor's mule. Since according to Leon mules are reticent to divulge that they can talk I think he usually provides his talking mule with a couple of apples to loosen him up a bit.

Yep I keep doing my part to keep the wheels of commerce turning. Too bad I haven't gotten wealthy enough to get a portion of the stimulus money. Amazing isn't it that all the people who managed their companies to the point of bankruptcy get paid large bonuses for the work they did. And they are convinced that they deserve that money. Calling them a bunch of thieving polecats would be an insult to skunks. I think it is also amazing that all the business schools at colleges are now including ethics courses in their currriculum. The idea that you have to teach right and wrong to people who are old enough to go to college is mind bogling.
Paige did you get any word on your vehicle? Hope it's nothing major.

Oh well on the lighter side. An indication of how things are changing. there are seven teams from Texas playing in the NCAA basketball tournament (The Dance). Until the UH started going during the Elvin Hayes/Don Chaney era most Texans thought of basetball as something that took place becasue the football season was over. Since their are a lot of SHSU bearkats on this forum they are pretty happy.
I saw in the morning paper that they're going to see if they can send the Baylor Bears back to Waco early. For those of you who don't follow roundball action the list is: UH, UT, TAMU, SHSU, No. TX,Baylor & UTEP. Probably TMI for some of you but it's fun to follow it

For those of you who are also animal lovers. There was an article on MSN this morning about a German Shepherd mix dog who was injured and calmly limped into the ER of a hospital in Farmington, NM. They called animal control. The dog was treated and his owner came and picked him up. Pretty smart dog that knew where to go to get help.
Well back to the wonderful world of insurance, protecting peoples assets. Oh, for those of you on spring break, it sure has been easier getting to and from work while you're off.

Enjoy this beautiful day,
Richard

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Happy Shamrock Day!!!

Thanks for all your prayers for our classmates because we have wonderful news -- Update on Pat Wilcox '65 and Ricky Strickland.

Lynn's email 3/17/10

Jackie,
Pat and I would like to thank you and everyone for their prayers. Pat had a long day yesterday but she is doing fine. The surgery was 4 1/2 hours and she was in recovery for 2 hours before I could see her. Right now she will stay in ICU to Thursday afternoon and then be transferred to a regular room. No one has said when she will be released from the hospital. This morning her nurse called asking if I would bring an item Pat wanted. The nurse said Pat had been out of the bed this morning and was doing good. I am leaving now to go to the hospital and will probably be in everyones way. Thanks again LP

Update from Ricky Strickland
His CAT scan results showed no blockage as earlier tests had shown - so no heart surgery!!

Continue to keep them and others in your prayers -- especially Charlie Burkhardt. His surgery is scheduled for April 8 at Methodist.

Hugs,
J

Beau Wann, Jr.

MOANIN yall, just back from dawn patrol! got the little woman to go with me! She is on spring break! Had to hook up John Boy to her to drag her out of bed! But it worked!!! Nothing unusual to report! Saw red squirrels in the same place I have been seeing them! Guess they have a house close by! Cole crick running a little stronger from the rain Tuesday!! Daffy ducks and cooty coots must be down for a nap, or sleepin in, cause we didnt see them! Turkles all soaking up the sweet sweet sun!!! Of course come mid july and august, I will be cussin the heat and wishing for cooler weather, then when we get below 50, I'll be wishin for warmer weather...and the beat goes on!!!!

All the redbuds are buddin...bud!!! There seems to be a lot of the Chinese fringe in the hood! The flawrs are purple or lavender, and the leaves are a dark purple!

Went by moms on DeMilo, and checked things out! Sat in her swing in the back yard! I love that swing! She has two pecan trees and one pear tree! The pear is just bloomin like crazy! When the wind blows, it looks like it is snowing, with all the pear blossom petals blowing about! Had to cut the large pecan tree back, cause it was leafing on the roof, and causing it to leak! I guess maybe it will bush back out! There is a difference of 20 degrees cooler, in the shade of a pecan tree!

Fixin to have PANCAKES AND SAUSAGE for breakfast! I know it's late, but that will quell any hunger pains for lunch! Pancakes seem to hold you for a good long while!
Of course the boys will get omlets! Small ones!

Richard, I forgot to take apples with me to maybe loosen up the mules vocalizing! I had good cigars and whiskey! Didnt want to waste a good Hoya de Monterey on a mule!
Or good Gentleman Jack, for that matter! I will stick to an apple! You can hear them late at night, braying, along with the cattle mooooooooooooing, mixed in with the coyotes howling! Quite a cacaphonic mixture of night sounds!!!

Saw Sly (slyvester the tom cat) and Boomer and Little bit all this morning! Fed same!!!! I sure wish someone would want this little siamese kitty! She is so sweet, and beautiful! Guess I'll take her to the vet and get her notarized! I really dont need 7 cats, although I have had as many as 8! Thats just too many!!! Oh well, we do what we can!!!

Going back to the ranch tomorrow or saturday to plant some blackberrys! Got two Apache and two Ouachitas! All blackberrys have an indian name! Dont know why!!!
Maybe it was the indians that discovered them! They would sure make good war paint though, along with good cobbler!

Got conned into buying 7 rose bushes, now I have to plant same! They're pretty, but...just a lot of work!!! Seems like work is never ending, in the horticulture dept! Got to cut down all the things kilt by the freeze and get em set out for heavy trash tomorrow! I changed all the doors downstairs yesterday, to white 6 raised panel! Had the old plain wood panel doors! It's amazing all the different tools there are to do different things! Jigs for this and jigs for that...makes you want to have a jig...er of good whiskey!!!

I had help though!! Good competent help! My son, quick draw, Billy, came over with one of his workers and helped me with some things I cant do anymore, like get on the house and in the attic, and hang the doors among other stuff! It sure is good to be able to work with folks!
I mean, like a good old fashion barn raising! Been to a couple of those before, and what a hoot! Gonna be putting a barn up at the ranch here this spring, if it will stop raining long enough! Got to get an 18 wheeler in with the materials! If he gets stuck, I dont even think Kevins Dodge and my funky ol ford could pull him out!!!

Looks like the pancakes are ready, yeaaaaaa! So I will sign off for now! Yeaaaaaaaa!!!! I HEARD THAT!!!!!
Your pard in the yard workin hard, beauregard

Post script; Sure is good to see others on the forum!

Beau I think using apples to get on that mule's good side is the best plan. I agree that giving a mule some of your black Jack would be a waste of good bourbon. Also I don't think a drunk mule would be a very pleasant sight. Actually they are pretty dignified animals so they probably eschew strong drink.

The redbuds in my yard are really putting on a show this year. I have a bunch of honey bees that are really working them over. I've never seen that much of a concentration of them on a redbud before. The dogwood and azaleas won't be far behind. I got some tomatoes, sweet basil and peppers put out last weekend. I just grow them in containers. I don't have the time to deal with a full scale garden. I usually have to race the squirrels for them. I keep threatening to start serving squirrel stew but haven't taken action on it yet. I've got some beets and carrots that are sprouting. There is nothing better than to harvest some vegtables and eat them at the next meal.

Lloyd if you didn't get enough practice pulling weeds give me a call. I can get you some more. I think I can get you certified as a Master Weeder! That CMW designation is much sought after.

I was just doing some scheduling for next week, it's hard to believe that the first quarter of the year is almost over. I guess the old saying is true;"Life is like a roll of toilet paper. . . .the closer you get to the end...the faster it goes".

See you folks down the road,
Richard

Richard, container gardening is the best, in my opinion!
It's easy and fast and you can produce just as good a crop as you can in a plot of land!
DW and I weeded a flawr bed today, and mah fangers are hurtin! Planted 7, countem, 7 rose bushes! 3 of em are lavender angel faces, and one iceberg, one peace and I dont bemember what the other two are! Doesnt really matter though, a rose is a rose is a rose by any other name! Wish I had a Mrs. Miniver rose!

Squirrel is pretty good eatin! Get a pellet gun, a good one, and whack them little goobers! They make a pellet gun that has a silencer on it, I kid you not!!! It's about 200 dollars! I'm thinking about getting one!

I saw in the houston rag, where they were deriding Tallow trees as not being native and a nuisance etc etc etc! But I am here to tell you, there are not many blossoms in the horticulture whirld that surpass the tallows perfume!!! It also makes the ABSOLUTE BEST HONEY in the whirld!!!!

We were planning on going to the ranch tomorrow, but I am so stove up from all the work I did here, I dont think I can make it up there!

Isnt it a beautiful night!!!!! Me and Jack been settin on the swing out back! My last dog Rocky and I use to sit on the swing all the time! He would put his head in my lap, and I would rub his tummy, and now Jack does the same! Hmmmmm...might just be a little of Rocky coming back to us! Jack sings, when he yawns, I guess just to get our attention! He generally does this close to dinner time! It is cute!!!

Ol Rocky use to sit out beside the pool at night and put his snout in the air, and sing the most beautiful song you ever heard! It would last a minute or so, and he would do it on one breath or two! It was almost like he was calling out to something! I wish I could have recorded it! It was amazing!

First time I heard it, DW was at choir, and I was home alone, (a good receipe for disaster me being home alone)! I was sitting in my favorite wingback chair next to a patio window reading something, cant recollect just what! All the lights were out save one, my reading light! I had the window open, and it was one of those still and quiet nights! I let Rocky out for a few minutes, and got engrossed in my book, when all of a sudden...AAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOO...
It started low, and built up to an amazing aria!
The hair, or what little hair I have, stood up on end, and I can tell you that was the eriest sound I have ever heard!!! Kind of a spirit primeval sound if you will! And even if you wont!!!

Well mine good friends, I think I will repair to the bedchamber! Like I said, I am stove up somethin fierce! Had to find my cane so I could get around! Doesnt seem to be anything on me that doesnt hurt! Here's a thought I just had...If I hurt this bad now, hows am I gonna make it 5 - 10 years down the road???? I kinda would like to be here then, but hurtin this bad...I dont know!!! I hate to complain, but I guess it's just as much an observation as it is a complaint!

Hey Kay, hows Anderson tonight??? The night sky is just aweinspiring viewed away from the big city lights!
Paige, how you doin??? Tony, you doin ok??? Lynn in hearne??? Burge??? Oh, I heard from Walter O Conner! Might make it to Fudds! Well, heres hopin he and others make it to fudds!! Generally I shut the place down, along with Jackie and Barbara and a few others, but had to leave early last time for my sojourn into the justice system! Dont think I have anything planned for next time!

Goodnight mine good friends, and goodnight Mrs Simpson, wherever you are!
your friend and brother Beaucephus

Post script; Having you all as friends and looking forward to our 2nd tuesdays, is worth more than gold!!!

HEY KIDS, WHAT TIME IS IT???
It's 3 AM!!! Hurt so bad, cant sleep! Well, that's not true, I slept about an hour! That ought to be enough for the average human bean!!! It's 47 degrees, winds light and variable...thank you weather channel!!!

Be spring tomorrow!!! Suppose to rain too! Are these folks really up doing the weather on the weather channel??? Or is it taped??? I guess they must be up, someones got to entertain fools like me awake at 3 AM, right???

Ive upset the entire cat community, and both dogs!
They all think it's feeding time! Man, I sure do hope they dont wake DW up!!!
I'll bet Burge is awake!
Fargo is sure catching heck with all the rain and snow and now flooding! Whoa, it just dropped a degree, it is now 46!!!
The weather channel, has been using our music a lot!
I'm not sure I like that, but dont know why! It feels like an invasion of privacy! The new folks dont appreciate our music, they dont know what it means, or what it meant to us, or at least to me anyhoo!!!

All the cats are back down for the time being! Dogs are back on the couch, and here I sit in this chair, typing on this computer! Heavy sigh!!!

Someone sent a picture to me, and i moved it to my gallery, and now my picture gallery is hosed up! Bet I got a virus! I bring up the Picture program, and it runs just so far, and then locks up the computer! So far, it hasnt affected any other operation, so far...knock on silicone!!!

My fingers hurt, so I guess I will stop typing! I cant seem to think of anything constructive to say! Pain sure does wear you out doesnt it??? Just about to kill me for sure!!! Now I'm hungry! How in the whirld did I get this far in life!!! Seems life use to be so simple once upon a time! What happened???

Guess I will put on a pot O coffee, and see what there is to eat! We had lasagna last night, maybe I'll eat the rest of that! DW also made spinach, and a big ol butternut squash! Hadnt had a big ol butternut squash in a long time! Dont really care one way or the other if I have another anytime soon!

You ever wonder how we came to eat certain things??? Like maybe Butternut squash??? Mushrooms??? Who was the first person to eat mushrooms??? Did they eat the poisonous ones??? You know, lots of stuff is trial and error, and by accident!!! Who made cheese for the first time??? How did they know how??? How about raw oysters??? Onions??? Here's one, horseradish!!! Wow, you eat too much of that, and it'll take your breath away!
They say ice cream and pizza came from china, why???

I guess most of the aforementioned foods was tried thousands of years ago, and those that ate the wrong stuff at the wrong time, died, and those that came after, learned from their predecessors mistakes, eh!!!!

Ok, the clock on the wall, which I didnt change to DST, says it is 2:45, the computer says it is 3:45, but when this posts, it will say 4:45! I have changed it repeatedly, but it just will not stick! Seems it is on eastern standard time!
Whoa, will you look at that, it is 45 degrees! they said the low was only gonna be 47! liar liar pants on fire!!!

Ok, guess I will sign off once again!
Have a great Friday and weekend! Suppose to rain Saturday! Dont think we will be going to the ranch today, and maybe not tomorrow either! Both of us are hurting from all the yard work! Put out all our heavy tree trash! Cut down our espallier (sp) vines growing on a wire to make a pattern on the fence!!! Didnt work worth squat! gonna try something else! Vines are just too invasive and distructive!!!

think me and Coop will go for a predawn patrol! I know he will like that! first I will find something to eat!!
Goodnight again, er, good morning!
Your friend and brother
Me, Sleepless in Oak Forest

Post script; A sad note here, Fess Parker died! Good ol Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone! He gave me more than a few happy hours of TV viewing! Thanks and Happy trails and God Speed Mr Parker!
Now I am watching Bob Wills and The Texas playboys! It's either that or the weather channel, or Girls Gone Wild!
I think I like Bob Wills!!!

Yesterday, I had a smoothie for lunch at a hippy dippy place called "Daily Juice". The smoothie was called Chocolate Prana. anything with chocolate has got to be all right. The server informs me that "Prana" means breath in yoga talk. OK, the smoothie was pretty good although kinda watery and gritty... I like them to sorta be like a malt from the Chuck Wagon. Anyway, a few hours later, I discovered that Prana may have a second meaning ...like wind..or a mighty wind...stirring up my insides and breaking forth. Can't remember what other additives were in that thing but I'll remember to not choose that one again.

Spring has sprung my back! Glad it is raining today and I will get a day off.

Saw a great YouTube about a guy who has a grocery store in LA. He decided to stop selling food products and just sell sody pops.. no Coca Cola or Pepsi products just small distillers using all glass bottles.. no corn syrup and no diet drinks. I never knew there were so many varieties! I used to love to walk down to the corner store for a "Coke" They had RC and Delaware Punch and NEHI big orange. Big Red was a favorite too. Never could get into the chocolate drinks in the bottles. what were they called?

Beau Wann, Jr.

Lloyd, the chocolate drink was called and still is methinks, "YOOHOO"! I think there were several others!
Use ta could get it on the train! Cokes and such were .50 cents on the train when you could get them for a nickle at 7-11! sure was a gyp back then! But now fifty cents doesnt seeem like such a bad deal, at least by todays standards!!!

Thanks for the Easter egg wallpaper! Ya never know what you will have on this forum.

Well, it is Saturday and Lord, it is cold, raining and miserable once again. Thank goodness, I stayed outside and put clips on the t-posts all day, walked and walked with the dogs, basked in the sunshine, trying to make up for going M.I.A. on Thursday. Laid low with a few friends and had a few left over green beers. Spring Break luxury.

Yes, Beau, as you know the nightsky is just beautiful, with the stars, and I even love the coyotes howling, eerie really. Just had the car washed in Bryan, Paige knows where it is ....Harvey Rd. Now it is once again...muddy! Aah, the ole Houston days without the mud; concrete streets, sidewalks, neighbors, Barbara Porter was an old neighbor of mine, Hope she is enjoying her parent's house up the street from my mom's former one.

The only thing about this Forum is a reminder that we all qualify as old and quite a few of us have had the old zipper operation, which makes one feel one could be next, seems they happen right out of the blue! I, being a long-standing diabetic, Type 1, realize I should probably be thanking the Good Lord that I am still here and seem to be healthy enough. In my mind, I can still jump up and run like a deer, full of pep and energy and health. Last time I tried that little number was when I heard a crack, pop and the knee surrendered.

Bluebonnets are springing up out here, flowers still to come. I am so thankful to see light green replacing the dull drab grey all over, grass and trees.
