Beau wins--kudos to you Bro!!!!!!!!!!!

Robby, I can't think of your answer but country names such as Egypt and Cyprus do NOT count as the letter "Y" in these instances is considered to be a vowel ergo the "I" pronunciation--but let me know your thoughts anyway.

Goot Sunday eefenink mine fellow ramalamas,
Played hookey from church today! I dont guess it matters all that much though!!! Couldnt sleep! When I did drop off, I dreamed I was moving furniture! Well you know how much I like that, er well the end results, not the actual moving of the furniture!!!! All night long, move move move!!!
I was exhausted before first light! Heck, me and coop even went out on patrol about 2 am! Had all the critters upset!!!

I was wore plumb out!!! Got a few hours sleep!!! But I will catch up one day! Sleep is overrated anyway!!!!

2 AM is pretty dark out! It was a might foggy too!!!
NOTHING, AND I MEAN NOTHING, is stirring at 2 AM, cept me and Coop!!!!
Later, out on Dawn Patrol, we saw lots of birds and even heard a mockingbird! Just love hearing them!!! Saw a redheaded woodpecker. Even heard his exotic call!!!
The turtles were out by the dozens, soaking up the warmth!!!
Even got attacked by a HUGE black Newfoundland dog! That ol boy musta weighed in at 200 pounds! Lets see, his 200, coops 100, my 200, thats one quarter ton of WWF muscle! Didnt scare me for myself, but I was afraid of losing control of cooper!

Big ol black dog was in full attack mode and flying through the air! Fortunately I saw him in time! Did a kung fu move, and smacked him on the nose!!! Stunned him, but did not deter him! So he lunged again, and I smacked him again harder, this time with my cane! That took the fight out of him! I hated to hurt him, but I wasnt gonna let him get to coop! Ol coop is so dumb, I dont know if he would know what to do in a fight, plus the dog weighed twice what coop was! As big as Coop is, the newfey was just a might larger!!! Newfeeys are generally pretty docile, or so I thought! After the second smack, he backed off, way off!!! I hit him pretty hard! If it had escalated, I was prepared to shoot him! Woulda hurt me to do it, but it is my job to protect anything or anyone in my charge!!!! And I take my job very seriously!

Drove to Brenham yesterday! Dont know why, just thought we'd get out of town for a couple of hours!!! What a quaint little town it is, at least around the town square!!!! The traffic was horrible on 290, coming and going, and it was a saturday!

Voted early Saturday for a change! My beloved and I have been voting together for 25 years! Only one time we voted separately! Didnt like that, so we vowed to vote together from then on! Not a lot of choice in candidates this time around!!!

Just yaking about everyday mundane things we all go through!!!
Watched snippets of Forrest Gump, and The Birdcage, and the aliens were attacking us again in Independence Day! I thought we whupped their ass last time, and here they are back again!!!! And ol Bruce Willis was saving the whirld in Armeggedon, (I was sure in love with Liv Tyler when I first saw her in that movie! DW said I could have a divorce, as long as she got Coop and John Boy and the Ranch! Weeeeelllllll ok, it probably wouldnt have worked out between me and Liv! But wow she is a "looker"!!! DW said she is the Daughter of a CW star??? Dont remember who!

Now, there's folks sliding down a tray in a sled named "Bob", at the olympics! Looks like USA hockey team just won a game!!! whoopie!!! Not much of an olympic kinda guy, me!!! Do wish one thing though! Wish I was as fit and athletic as one of those folks doing the downhill skiing!!! Oh, I could probably do it in my present state, but I would probably be pretty sore and stove up afterwards, that is if I lived through it!!!

Dont mind the timed events, because it's hard for a judge from another country to cheat, well, except the Mexico City olympics when the judges kept putting time back on the clock so the soviets could win! After I saw that, I never viewed the olympics in the same light again!!! Also the ice skating is too subjective to cheating by all the other countries judges, because they all hate America!!!
Jealousy is an ugly thing!!!! About the one couple that really deserved to win, and did, was Torville and Dean from, I believe, Great Britain, methinks!

The gymnastic efforts are also tainted because the judging is subjective! and once again, Jealousy rears it's ugly head!!!

Here are some words not used much anymore by folks other than our generation; honesty; integrity; loyalty; graciousness and lasagna!!! Man, I love lasagna as much as Garfield!!!
You know, if youve read this far, you must be bored silly! Sorry! Just ramblin on like a lunatic!!!
Just remember this old indian saying; "never trust a naked bus driver"!!!

Goodnight Mrs Simpson, where ever you are!!!

Yore frien and brother Billy bob beauregard

ok beau, this one ought to be easy for you:when is one half equal a whole?

02/22/10 08:52 AM #2281

Beau Wann, Jr.

I'm afraid you got me!!! Just because I got lucky on the other questions, doesnt mean I actually know anything! Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then!
I will have to defer to anyone with more than a pea brain like mine!!!
Hmmm, couldnt be a half a brain...that wouldnt be a whole brain! A half pint of whiskey equals a whole bottle????

Hmmmmm....Let me think about it somemore!!!! Ok, I'm through! Made my brain hurt!!!!

Good morning all!

Doug I think the British navy made the change about the same time. Do you know how they came up with the term port ? I know people use the fact that the running light on the left side of a ship or boat is red as is port wine to remeber which side port is. Any connection there to the selection of the term port?

Since no one responded to my question about a diner waitress named Florence Jean Castleberry I'll give you the answer. She was the red headed waitress named Flo that worked at Mel's Diner on the sitcom Alice. When the owner/cook would irritate her, her response was "Mel, kiss my grits".

I was watching the Olympics last night when Bode Miller received his gold medal. To my thinking there isn't much more exciting than seeing an American get and Olympic Gold medal as the American flag is raised as the national anthem is played! They also had a lot of footage of the Miracle On Ice in 1980 when the U.S.hockey team won the gold meda., defeating the Russians in the process. Still just as thrilling today as it was 30 years ago. Interesting that all of the players are still alive. Two are coaches for the Aeros. Only the coach Herb Brooks is deceased. Died in a car accident in '03.
Beau, if you want to be as fit as those Olympic athletes you only to need to work out 6-8 hrs. a day, 6-7 days a week. A lot of sweat and you'll be ready for the SR. Olympics! I think I could see you competing in the Biathalon. I think I got the right name for the Nordic sport I'm thinking of. Anyway, it combines cross country skiing and shooting. Maybe you could train Coop to pull you along on skis. You might invent a new sport. If you do it just send me pictures. There's still snow involved!

Beau

From what it looked like on TV, you probably are fit enough to enter the bobsled competition. The driver for the first US sled, Steven Holcomb, should not have been wearing the skin tight spandex costume. He looked like I think I would look in one of those things. Not the picture of physical fitness one normally associates with the Olympics. Maybe he is just a great strategist.

Richard, no I don't know how or why the term "Port" was chosen for nautical "Left". My first thought was that since the loading occurred on the left side of the boat that was the side nearest the dock or the port??? This sounds either too simplistic or downright stupid!!!

Beau, the "old salt" that he is should know this answer.

Trivia question for Beau--Where does a naked bus driver carry his driver's license???

Burge--when does 1/2 equal a whole? I don't know for sure but whenever it's combined with its other 1/2. Just kiddin'--I have no idea.

Richard Meek '65

Doug, I did not know the answer either but with the assistance of a little research, it turns out you are correct. Of course there are some other theories but yours makes sense. Seems the Royal Navy adopted the term port in 1844. One theory is the captain of HMS Beagle trained his crew to use the term port and that propelled it into use in the Royal Navy. Merchant ships began using the term soon after. Although whalers continued to use the term larboard well into the 1850's. Probably TMI.

Burge I don't know about your riddle. Does a half equal a whole when a half is all that remains of the original quantity? As in a half of a pie is all that remains but that is the whole remains quantity now. I'm like Beau, I'll have to ponder on this somemore. Although I figure Beau has now shortened that to smores and he is now having a cup of joe and smores.

I will have more, I hope, to say tomorrow, as I have been cough, cough, sneeze, sneeze, can't hardly see, need to lie down since I got home on Fri night. Working at a school keeps one pretty always running something.

Been to the Hill -Beau, Bellville has cute sububia homes, I bit clicky, just drove thru there myself couple mos. ago. More tomorrow.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Quite actually, "port" bears no special meaning other than the left side of any craft facing forward! Most ships dock with the "starbord" side along the quay wall!
Most every vessel I boarded, I boarded on the starbord side, in fact I cant remember ever boarding on the port side!

I forgot the question of "Flo" was raised! I knew the answer, in fact thats how come I remember the name "Flo"!

I am having a cup O joe, but no smores, dangit! I do have in my hot manly fingers, a chocolate peanut butter cookie and a shortbread cookie! Goes great with coffee!!!

I know the answer to the riddle; Whole Ersters on the whalf shell!!!!!

Ha, and you thought I was stumpedededed!!!!

Someone sent a 1957 menu from Woolworths to me, and a piece of pie was 15 cents! Now its 5 dollars!!!
I miss woolworths! Took my boys to woolworths till they closed! There was also a WW at northwest mall that was pretty good! Mom and Dad frequented that one, as well as me too!!! But the downtown one was the "coupe de grace"
The "rolls royce" of all stores on earth and the universe!!!

Feeding time at the zoo!!!

In these days of everyone watching their money did you realize how many different places you can visit without leaving Texas. This is just a partial list:Naples, Milan, Rome, Italy, Paris, Carthage, Athens, Palestine, Pittsburg, Richmond,Cleveland, Jacksonville, New York, Detroit, Charleston, Saratoga & Washington. There you go!

02/23/10 05:15 PM #2289

John Burgess Webb

and im 16 miles from atlanta, small world in the great state of texas.hey you guys im sorry about that low-down dirty riddle, ill give you a hint;it has to do with whole numbers.its just an exercize.

you forgot Moscow and iran and Harold too!!! you can meet at the junction also go to paradise and utopia and Hye; how about Florence and Dublin and El Dorado; Ben Hur and cayuga or go where it's Leakey or Sunny Side or the Swiss Alp and Albany and Cisco and one of my all time favs Desdemona and Newark, Lipan and Rhome, how about Goshen and Joplin and South Bend and Mangum...

Decatur and Augustus and OLD GLORY and finding Nemo and Nimrod...India and Venus...

Just thought of a couple more, Shenendoah and Egypt...

02/23/10 05:23 PM #2291

Beau Wann, Jr.

Ok, well if it deals with numbers, that lets me out!!
Remember now I flunked algebra I a half dozen times or more....

02/24/10 09:26 AM #2292

Richard Meek '65

Beau every time you mention flunking algebra the number of times goes up. I think we may need to see a transcript to verify six.

Adding places to visit don't forget Vienna or places just becasue of the unusual names, Dime Box, New Dime Box,Comfort, Sublime, Pflugerville and the always popular Bleiberville.

02/24/10 10:02 AM #2293

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Richard, transcripts don't report our failed courses, just those passed with credits. A "bit" of trivia you may not know!

02/24/10 10:23 AM #2294

Richard Meek '65

Well shoot, it looks like Beauregard the Bard will slip through on a technicality. Exaggeration enhances the story, right? Beau just keep on writing. Your our version of Leon Hale! He's a favorite of mine, so that's a compliment. You by chance don't happen to know a talking mule also do you ?

02/24/10 10:46 AM #2295

Beau Wann, Jr.

Well, I did try algebra so many times, lost count!
tried in college oncet! Imagine trying to take college algebra with zero background in high schrool!!! I thoought, ok, I'm older now, and have to be much much smarter...Yeah yeah yeah, and pigs can fly too!!!

My first and last day in college algebra began with the teacher being about half my age, and twice as smart, and giving us a test when we first walked in! She said if we couldnt do this test, we shouldnt be in there! So I got up and handed it back to her and left!!! "I aint gotta have no stinkin algebra"!!!!

Also too, there is a San Diego, Tx, and you can worship the Lord in Lord, and you can visit Earth in the Panhandle halfway between the town Halfway and Muleshoe on 70!!! After you visit Earth, you can go to Happy, or Lone Star and then to Love! Maybe later, have some cereal in Cereal, or visit the Duke of Paducah then head south and see if you can find Arlo in Guthrie...

OK, I stand corrected on the word "port"!! In the olden days, when we were just "young pups", the Vikings, (not the football team), ships were steered by long paddles or boards on the right side of their ships or boats! These boards were known in "Old English" as "STEORBORDS"
evolving into the word "starboard"!!! Stay with me now...

As previously mentioned, the left side of the ship or vessel, looking forward, is called port.
Formerly, as stated before, the left side was called "larboard", originating from the fact that early merchant ships were always loaded from the left side! It's etymology is Scandinavian, being "lade" (load) and "bord" (side), hence becoming "ladeboard, and evolving to "larboard"! The British Admiralty, (they were always pushing people around) ordered port to be used in place of Larboard to prevent cornfusion with starboard, which was mentioned by someone earlier!!!

So, what have we learned here today???? DONT GET ME TO THINKING ABOUT SOMETHING, CAUSE I AM GONNA WEAR OUT ALL KINDS OF RESOURCES TILL I FIGURE IT OUT!!! Still working on the "when does half equal a whole"!!! I know, it's probably simple to allus youse youtes that actually studied and passed your classes, but for me, well..."a mind is a terrible think"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me and Coop back from patrol, and what a glorius day it is, weatherwise!!! Lots of whitewing fluttering and cooing! Didnt hear any other boids! They really have to be loud to drown out the already singing boids in my head!!! All kritters down for a midmorning nap! Guess I will vacuum later so I dont disturb their slumber! Naps are very important to my kritters as they are to me!!!

Did anyone see the movie "Ruggles Goes To Red Gap" last night??? It was made in 1935 and starred Charles Laughton! It was hilarious! I had a hard time understanding some of it, because he and some of the other actors talked so low!!!! But it was great! In my estimation, and many more and others too, Charles Laughton was probably one of the greatest all time actors in the whirld...that is if you care about that sort of thing!!!!!

Also saw "Topper" with Cary Grant and Constance Bennet?
Roland Young played Cosmo Topper!!! Now, here's the question; What kind of car were they driving around in???
It had suicide doors, two of em, and it was a long car!
Only a two seater, and it had one fin in the middle of the back! Pluse the back of the front seat opened up and that was the trunk!!!! The movie was made in 1937! the car kind of looks like an extra large "Bugati" methinks!

So, that is your homework assignment! I dont know what kind of car that was, thats why I'm axing!!! So, can you hep a brother out and find out for me! I will of course, be perusing my resources!

Me and the boys are going out to sit in the glorius sun!
So, keep the sun at your back and yore eyes along the skyline!
yore pard beauregard

02/24/10 10:52 AM #2296

Beau Wann, Jr.

No, I dont know a mule, unless you consider Cooper one! he's almost as big as a mule, but just a tad dumber!!
Of course I am as stubborn as a mule, and not near as pretty!!!

02/24/10 11:11 AM #2297

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Well Beau, there's your calling, and you could make some money ifen ole Leon retires!

Hey, Burgess. Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow with your back surgery. You are in our prayers.

02/24/10 02:00 PM #2299

Richard Meek '65

Hello Burge, I've finished pondering your riddle. With your last hint I think I've got it by jove!

A half is equal to a whole when you divide a number in half and that results in another whole number. Por ejemplo, if you divide 10 in half you get 5 which is another whole number. If you divide 11 in half you you get 5.5 which is not a whole number. Es correcto?

I didn't realize you have surgery scheduled. I hope all goes well.

02/24/10 05:39 PM #2300

Jackie Crowe (Finch)

Everybody pray for our Burge -- he's having back surgery tomorrow. No riddles for a while ----

Hugs,

richard,it only seems to work on even numbers;kinda made it up myself so it really dosnt count.i usually dont think about numbers but when the supercollider was being talked about i started to wonder how many time you could break a particle down;you would still have an elemental whole particle to break, ad infinitum.i still wonder what was to be accomplished by breaking a particle down to one that is seen for a instant.the engineers 'infinity'is the accuracy of the instrument,i wonder if one could be built.if such a partiical can only be observed in an electron microscope for a very short time then it has little practicl use except to wonder.
