Jimmie Lee Smith (Brawner)

27 degrees @ 7:45am in McKinney. White Winter Wonderland. Beautiful. Biggest snowfall in Dallas history - 12 inches

Doug - when I mentioned Cash Cab, it was only for the purpose of you all watching the show, not going there to compete. The questions and answers are ones, I'm sure that you would know, as the 44 yr. guy watching it (he loves playing it) knows the answers and people like me fail miserably. Anyway they are handed cash as they get out of the taxi cab, so it looks as though, they win money. You might want to watch it sometime, it comes on around 4 p.m. satellite, during the week. I don't know as I don't have satellite, it is just on when I visit.

Jimmie - I bet the snow in Dallas is absolutely gorgeous and a good reason to stay inside., all - in - all, the weather is not so bad anywhere in Texas, that we can't be grateful when looking at how much worse and dangerous it is for others outside our state.

I've been up to my ears, getting Progress Reports out this week and have enjoyed reading comments to relax a bit.

Jimmie, I'm surprised that the 12 in. is a record for Dallas. The record snowfall for Houston ocurred
on Feb. 13,1895 (I think) and was either 20 or 22 in. My favorite way to see snow is in picture, on tv or a movie. I will say that when it first falls it is beautiful. One of the most dramatic things I've seen was in Washington D.C. I had an appointment in Senator Bentsen's office. So I got out early before my appointment so I could stop at the Viet Nam Memorial. I walked up a small hill from the Jefferson Memorial and looked down on the V. N. Memorial.
The sowfall from the night before was pristine. Not one footprint or anything to blemish the snow. There was just that great black marble monument surronded by beautiful white snow. The traffic was non-existent so it was totally still. Something I'll never forget. For those of you have never been to Washington D.C. You should go. As should every American citizen. I think the Viet Nam Memorial is particulary poignant for those of us who lived through that time in history.

Beau, you are are right about the stars of Half Moon Street. You're good dude. I'll try another one. Who were the leads in the movie Going South? No Googleing now. If anyone else knows chime in.

You were on the right track with "There you Go". It was Dennis Weaver but that was his most used line when he played Sam McCloud, U.S. Marshall.

I think you're right on track also about the origin of so much discussion about weather. It is still pretty citical in our lives. Revolves more around commuting to work for most of us. But sometimes it is way more important like find a safe place to hide or move to higher ground. Some things are better now. Just think of how much warning you often have about approaching bad weather so you can prepare for it.

I'm sure that you and Coop made your usual dawn patrol this morning. so I want to thank both of you for going out on such a yucky (meteorlogical term) morning to make sure that Oak Forest was safe from unruly ducks and coots!

One thing doesn't change though is the importance of family and friends. So my friends I hope you all have a great weekend!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Richard,
I knew it was Denis Weaver, just wrong series!
I know who was in Going south! But I will let others try for the gold ring on that one!

It was a cold morn out on patrol! Coop doesnt seem to mind though! He especially likes it for me, if its cold and raining! But he hates a bath, wont go out in the back yard if it is raining, wont go in the pool, yet when I get his harness and leash out, he could care less how much water is coming down, or how cold it is!!! Go figure!!!

Been a rather quiet day as far as the circus beaulei!
Critters all upset because I vacuumed, all except Annie-Bob! Nothing scares her! Been watching "How things are made"! Just boggles my mind, how something got that far!!!! Like aluminum for instance! It is a multi step process, and complicated! Ok, we are that far, but how did they arrive at the very first time they did it??? Probably by accident!!!!

Well, like I said, all quiet on the western front! Looks like it got up to 42 gredees today, and now has started back down! 40 gredees now! No snow tho!!! Hey Jimmie lee, save a snowball for us for the next reonion!!!!

Guess I will start dinner! FGT and pork chops and other stuff!!!!!

Well it's almost 3:00, and it's 45. I sort of doubt that it's going to make it to the revised 52 but the sun is shining. That's definitely a good thing.

Beau I went out on dawn patrol this morning. The cat went with me. We patroled out to the Chronicle on the driveway. We didn't see any disorderly ducks or coots so we returned to the house. Mission accomplished. There's something really satisfying about settling in with a good cup of coffee and the paper on Saturday morning.

I'll bet it was real airish this morning up where Kay, Tony, Paige and Robert live. Still better than the Dallas area or further north. One of my grandfathers grew up in Tyler the other in Stephenville. I remember them talking about getting up on a winter morning to start the fire in the wood stove. Whew, that had to really be cold to have get out of a warm bed and pull on cold clothes. Man o man isn't central heat wonderful. A lot of things about the good ole days weren't so good were they? Looks like we'er going to have several more cold(by Houston standards) nights so everyone stay warm!

Speaking of winter weather?

I’m back in Minnesota this weekend trying to help my nephew find a truck to buy. We drove out about 50 miles out in the country early Saturday. The night before there was thick fog/high moisture and in the morning there was Hoar’s Frost on all the trees/shrubs etc with temp around 15F. It was surreal in the defused light of early morning and something like I have never seen before. I wished I had my new DSLR and actually knew how to capture the landscape/lighting as it would have possibly made some great black and white photos but….. as always, wrong time/place/no camera.

Just want to say the seasonal backgrounds on the site are wonderful, marvelous - loved the Xmas, Jan. & now Feb., feel like I'm floating in hearts.

The pics of Fudds are great once again. Everyone has their coats on, which tells you about the weather.

Spring, where are you? It turned into a gusty norther here late aft. after having been such a pretty sunny day.

02/15/10 09:07 AM #2237

Richard Meek '65

Jackie, Kay is right you do a great job on the website and being the photographer on Fudd Tuesday. Thanks for all you do.

Kay you're also right about yesterday. I was in the yard yesterday afternoon wearing a t-shirt. Enjoying the warm sunshine while I did a few chores. Went in to change and go meet a friend for dinner. Came out twenty minutes later, the temperature was dropping, the wind was blowing 20-30 mph and I was glad I had picked up a jacket on the way out. What a dramatic change.

Those of us who are toiling in the workplace today hope those of you have the day off enjoy it.

Ferrell won't mind if I post her Valentine..it is the day after V day after all;

Another year cycles and Valentine’s Day starts the new

So that love blossoms and cold hearts warm anew.

I am bare as the trees but ready to grow

I am cold as the north wind but ready to warm.

Will you accept my heart that I give to you?

There are mistakes I’ve made

I’ll try not to repeat

There are words I’ve said

I hope you forget

There are things to be done

I know that you’ll agree

Will you give your heart to me?

I checked on that record snow in Houston...and was astonished about what happened in a big Gulf Coast snowstorm on Feb 14-15, 1895. I can imagine the towns were paralyzed. http://www.earlychurchfathers.org/fullcircle/index.php?entry=entry091211-213857 Some Texas amounts: Beaumont TX - 30 inches! San Antonio TX - 4.2 in San Marcos TX - 6 in Stafford TX - 20 in Victoria TX -- 12 in Brazoria TX - 18 in Columbia (now West Columbia) Tx - 20 in Corpus Christi TX - 4.3 in Cuero TX - 14 in Galveston - 15.4 in Houston - 20 in (some say 22 inches) Orange - 20 in Photo of Houston's snowfall: http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/6964/3133/1600/houstonsnow1895.jpg Photo of Galveston's snowfall: http://galvestondailynews.com/blog.lasso?blog=fd3d631c80553fee&archive=2009-02-15

While riding and talking with my oldest grandson Jake today I had a pleasant old Oak Forest/Garden Oaks memory that I thought I would share. He loves to rake yards as I did when I was a kid and was telling me he made some money yesterday raking a neighbors yard. When I told him I used to like to do the same thing he asked me what type of plastic bags we used back then.

I laughed out loud, and proceeded to tell him how each house would put all the leaves in a pile in the gutter in front of the house and burn them on a Sunday afternoon, and in the fall and winter you could always count on the sweet smell of oak and pine leaves burning.

That seemed as strange and of another time to him as wood stoves and wash pots did to most of us. Although now that I think of it, I also got to see both of those every time I visited my grandparents farm up in Bartlett, Texas.

Another chilly sleepless night!
Checked out Mickey B. pics on her profile! Great sport SASS and Cowboy Mounted shooting!!! Went to the international shoot in Columbus about 5 years back, more or less! great folks all!!!!

Everyone that participates dresses the part too! All have a "stage" name like, Buffalo Bill etc!!! They even strapped a pair of colts on me to let me see how much fun it was! I didnt need to be convinced, I knew!!!!

But I couldnt pass up a chance to handle TWO, count em, TWO, matched pair of 1892 nickel plated colt 45s, tuned up by Bob Munden no less!!! Oh my!!!! Ol Mr Sam Colt knew what he was doing!!!!
I'll tell you, no finer group of folks than the SASS and cowboy action/mounted shooting folks! Very friendly and helpful!!!
There is a SASS group that meets in Smithville, and one that meets in Magnolia! Dont know when, they meet sorta like we do on 2nd tuesday, but theirs is a weekend!!!!

My brain has been enjoying the weather, whereas my body has not!!! Is it colder now days, or is it me????
Enjoyed Sundays warmer clime, but like someone else mentioned, all of a sudden it got windy, and colder!!!
HEY AL GAHORE, HOWS THAT GLOBAL WARMING WORK?????

Me and coop been on many patrol since my last post! We have two hawk families living in the hood here!!! One family of Coopers hawks living a block south of us, and one family of Redtail hawks just north 100 yards give or take!!! Just love em!!!!

This Morn, saw a Kite on the ground, and when me and coop walked by, it spooked em, and he or she rose with a smaller bird in its talons! What a sight!!!

A few turtles surface for air on warmer days, down at cole creek! Coots and ducks behaving!!! Where do the turtles go that live in the water, in cold weather???? I know they cant hold their breath for 6 months, or however long winter is here!!!

Teddie, I do remember the leaf and pine needle fires and smoke!!! I loved the smell of it as we danced around them like the indians we pretended we were!!! The smoke was "death" on us asthmatics! I remember on many occasions, after being in the smoke, just gasping for air! Funny how a little kids mind works, but I thought everyone was affected that way!! And Of course at night, when you shed your clothes for your feeted trapdoor jammies, your clothes continued to hold that smell until mom would wash them in Tide or Twenty Mule Team Borax!!!

We still use Borax!!! Remember "Death Valley Days"???
The begining and end of the show started with a trumpet solo that was very haunting! I still remember the tune, went something like this; DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA... or notes to that effect!!!!!

The Gipp use to narrate that show!!! I loved that show, although some of the shows would scare me! Always Good against evil, and Good triumphant in the end! Doesnt seem to always be the case in many of the shows nowadays!
Sometimes they make the bad guy the hero, kind of an oxymoron, so to speak!!!! That has to be confusing to the youngsters nowadays, dont you think!!!!!

Since I am up, all the critters with the exception of Cooper, think it is time to eat!!!! My fault!! They know they can "cute" a treat out of me, without trying very hard!!! Guess I'm just an old softy!!! Well, a softy anyway!!!!

I am kind of hungry myownself!!! Hmmmmm!!! Made some cookies last friday for my beloved to take to her office! I ate the broken ones! You do know that if they are broken, then all the calories and bad stuff,(like there could be any bad stuff in a cookie) was null and void!!!
Yup, thats the rule!!! I forget which chapter and page it is on in the "Goodie handbook", but it's there, trust me!!!!!

4:47 AM, guess I will make a what??? POT OF COFFEE!!!!
Remember that! It's kind of like when a woman goes into labor, you boil water, and tear sheets into strips, and break out the Jack Daniels... Sheets into strips?????
Just where the heck did that come from???
Anyone try to tear a sheet nowadays??? Cant be done!!!!
Seems the ol percale has gotten tougher in modern times!!!

Speaking of modern times, how bout this global warming!!!
Heard one of the, so called "scientists" trying to splain just why the winter was so cold, and how global warming was causing it!!! Never heard so much "hemming and hawing" and "shuckin and jivin"!!!! Still waiting for a plausible explanation!!!

Gonna put on a pot of coffee, so I will sign off for now!
No one answered Lloyds or DougRs question about the movie, "Going South"!!! So I will!!! It was directed by Jack Nicholson, and he also starred in it with Mary Steenburgen, with Christopher Lloyd and John Belushi!!! I think it was made in 1986!!!

Been watching a few old classics like, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" with Charles Laughton, and Maureen O Hara!!! Thomas Mitchel was in it, and probably every character actor of the time also!!! Laughton was just incredible! I forget who did the remake, but it will come to me!
Saw Casablanca for the millionth time! Bogie, Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet, etc just superb!!!! It was made in 42, but didnt show in LA until 43! African Queen, was great! I didnt much like these in my youte, but they have grown on me!!!

Got to run, John Boy is throwing up!!! Usually it's just the cats that do that, but occasionally one of the dogs will grace us with a present!!!! Heavy sigh!!!!!
Happy trails buckeroos!!!
It is always a pleasure to read what others have writ, thanks!
Your pard the bard beauregard

Good morning,

Fall - when I lived in a small wooded subdiv. in the 1960 area and we each had 1/2 to 1 ac. I would always look forward to the season, looking out over the beautiful lawned and natural tree landscaped areas to my neighbor's where about 10-12 boys would be playing football and the smell of leaf burning and the tinge of fall turning leaves and weather - is my favorite time and memory. It is just so American football, boys and fall. If we could just enjoy fall twice as long, and winter twice as short, it would be close to perfection.

Wish this rain and muck would cease as I've got to get out and rake the yard around my house. Good exercise, which my "bode" is crying out for. Can't wait to start mowing (my therapy) and exercise choice. It's so gratifying when you look at a just mowed yard (not lawn in my case) We've had a horrible tribe of "moles" making the yard soft. Haven't tried to get rid of them yet, maybe they'll just go away. The other day I took a shortcut to Bryan, and almost ran over a wild pig, jumped right out in front of me and crossed to the other side. I think we were both scared. Never hit a deer "yet" although they suddenly appear next to the road frozen when lights hit em, beautiful but deadly if hit.

Teddie - speaking of Bartlett, TX. I had an aunt there, Mrs. Elsie Koepke, wife of a local dentist, long time ago. She had no children. I always thought it smart of her to buy 1/2 stock in Will-O-Bell Nursing Home, and put herself in there. Don't you know they took really good care of her? Good woman.

Well, got to get off and get to work, enjoyed your morning rendition, Beau, as always.

02/16/10 11:55 AM #2245

Richard Meek '65

Good morning everyone.

Beau you are correct about the stars in Going South. I'm beginning to think that you've seen every movie ever made. For those of you who haven't seen Going South watch it sometime when you need several good laughs. It is a really funny Western.

As I understand the weather we're having this winter is related to the el nino year we had last summer. The water temperature in the Pacific is lower than normal. That effects the jet stream and that has two effects. It reduces hurricane activity in the summer (yeah!) and it causes colder winters because the the change in the jet stream allows the artic air to come pouring down south. To have reduced hurricane activity I would vote for a
el nino effect every year. I'm sure the folks north of Conroe would be opposed to it.

There is a ditch that runs behind my house that empties into White Oak Bayou. There is an amazing assortment of wildlife along it. I encountered what I think is a red tail hawk there recently. I also saw that or a similar hawk sitting on a street light beside the hike & bike trail that parallells White Oak. We just studied each other for about ten minutes. I see hawks soaring along White Oak pretty regulary. It was really amazing to see that magnificent bird that close up. There are also some blue herons that nest along that ditch. Those big birds are very impressive also.

I also have fond memories of most of the neighbors raking and burning their leaves at the same time. All the visiting and the great aroma of the oak and pine needles. At that time of year I remember also all the excitement, amongst the young males at least, about the Southwest Conference football promotional stuff that could be collected from the local Humble stations. There was always a lot of negotiating with my dad to get him to buy his gas at an Humble station so I could get the giveaways. He preferred Texaco gas. Anyway there are a lot of good memories. Heck we're collecting good memories right now from getting reacquainted with people from our "ute".

I've got some additional information on New York cheese cake. Beau is correct that there is a New York, Tx. It is an unincorporated community 13 miles east of Athens (TX you know). It was founded in 1856. It's population peaked at about 100 around the turn of the century. After the the railroad bypassed it decline set in. Now there are about 20 resolute souls that live there. The cheesecake deal started at Dunsavage Farms. Which had a restaurant and a B&B. They started marketing
New York, TX Cheesecakes in 1986. By 1992 they had national recognition. The business now operates in Athens. Probably more than you wanted to know but there you Go

A couple of years ago driving down to Sargent I had a coyote jump out of a ditch and run across the road in front of me. Glad I didn't hit him. I'd never seen one in the wild that close before. interesting but not as funny as Wile E. Coyote.

Lloyd I think you could make an interesting transition here from engineer to Valentine Consultant!

Ok I'm going back to work. Keep those messages coming!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Well, I haven't seen every movie, but I do remember the trailers to them! More useless information!!!!
Watched the westminster dog show! No surprise winner there!
Did you know, a Golden Retriever has never won??? Now, that is a crime! You cant tell me that a poodle, any poodle is better than a golden retriever!!!! Nothing against a poodle, but to me, it's just a different class of dog, and the two dont compare!!! So I think they ought to have two separate competitions! One for big dogs and one for small dogs, and never the twain shall meet!!!!

Richard, aint hawks beautiful??? We will probably have a couple of hawk juniors here in a month give or take!!!
Lots of boids were out and about today! We have a purple martin house, and the nest building activity was just krazy today!!!! Saw three dove on the ground, hunkered down! Probably trying to stay warm! But, junior dove was on the ground and mom and dad were hanging close to make sure he was ok!!! Then good ol loud mouth John Boy aka Jack, ran out there and flushed em, the rat!!!! He doesnt like anything to violate his airspace!!!! I happen to know, he doesnt carry a gun, or a knife, but all he has to do is unloose one of his stinkbombs, and the little boidys will fall out of the sky!!!!

Surfing the TV today, produced, "The Virginian" and "Cheyene"! Saw Lee J Cobb and John Denny in the virginian, and of course Clint walker, with Alan Hale Sr. and a host of other character actors in Cheyene!!!
Hadnt seen either one of those since they were first run!!!!

On our patrol today, smelled a lot of wood smoke from the north! Could almost smell the leaf and pine needles burning from our driveway lo these many years ago, about 55 or 60!!!
Use to take a candle into my fort in the backyard, and light it for our big campfire! Good thing I had a fertile imagination, and also didnt catch my idjit self on fire!!!

As I got older, and didnt really care for some of my plastic models, I would set them on fire, and crash em together! Had a distinct smell and black smoke!!! Some of us guys were sure nutty eh!!!!

It's close to midnight, and I'm tired but not sleepy!!!
Guess I will stay up and do stuff!!! Maybe this and that and the other!
Any one remember the name Agador Spartacus???? And where it came from???? The most hilarious movie ever made, methinks!!!! If I believed in the academy awards, which I dont, but if I did, that movie should have won them all!!!

Pulled out a few old magazines, 1942, 43, 44, 46 Readers Digests, and some 1957 58 Guns Magazines, and they are priceless!!! Even have a Dec 1941 National Geographic! The old adds are great to see!!!

Anyone interested in old magazines, I have a few! Found two boxes of old Playboys in my dads garage! I havent looked at one of those in over 30 years! I have both editions with Anna Nicole Smith! Looked em up on the internet, and they are supposedly worth 300 bucks apiece! But of course, that is only if someone is interested in owning them! Got one with an interview with Donald trump 20 years ago, give or take! Still has the same hair!!!

Have the entire year of 1958 of Guns magazine, and one of them has Roy Rogers on the front, and one has James Arness on the front cover! There were 4 boxes of American Rifleman and Guns magazines, and a box of life and post and others! They arent the real old life, and post, but old enough! I have one with MacArthur on the cover in 45 and one with Montgomery on the cover in 45! Two of my least favorite generals!!! Anyone interested, I can make you a hell of a deal! once in a lifetime opportunity! Be the first on your block to own these priceless treasures!! Yeah yeah yeah blah blah blah!!!

Channel 13 said this is the coldest year since 1983-84 and the 4th all time coldest year since records were started! I thought so!!!! Feels cold, for shure!!! Do you mind that I put an H in sure???? I think I will put one in shugar too!!! If thats ok!!! If yawns were sleep, I'd be rip van winkle!!!

There are four cats and a dog in the library with me!!!
Think I will go out and find a job somewhere!!! Maybe CEO of some major corporation! Anyone need a spare CEO??? I'm available, not cheap, but I can be had for the right price!!! Yawn!!!!!!! Is it summer yet??? Lots of boidy activity as I stated above, and looks like a false spring in the making! Didnt hear my mockingbird today, and havent in a while, but come spring he or she will sit in my backyard and sing to high heaven!!! I just love hearing them!!! My ears ring so bad, I generally hear birds all year long whether there are any or not!!!

Do you know, I have slept with a fan next to my head for some 60 years??? Well, except for when I was in Boot camp! But then we were so tired at the end of the day, ringing in my ears wouldnt keep me awake! I found some ear drops that says it will stop the ringing, but cant bring myself to put them in my ears! Dont like things in my ears that dont belong, and drops is one of em!!! But maybe someday I will use them!!!

Had to go to the market today for groceries! I dont know about anyone else, but I'm a "buy it so I dont run out of it" kind of guy! Like my favorite wine! St Genivive Sweet Red!!! Good wine, and it was on sale too! Comes in the 1.75 litre bottles! Now I have 8 of them, but I dont want to be without later on down the line, when the shtf!!! Dont want to have to fight some new yorker for a loaf of bread or milk or wine, when times get tougher and tighter!!! So, I stock up!! Therein lies the problem, where to store the stuff!!! Might have to turn one of the bedrooms into a store room for my y2k spam and chili and corned beef hash and stuff!!!

Now, when I put something like that into the basket, the little woman gives me "the look"!!!!! You know the one I mean! "What in the whirld are we going to do with 10 cases of spam and corned beef hash, and wine"???? You know, silly questions like that!!!!
So, I guess you know that when TSHTF, you run to my house!
That is if you want something to eat and drink, and if you got a lot of money, or something to trade! Gold!!!! Nah, I'm not into gold! Cant eat it!!!

The stupid Chronicle had a story, which I now cant find, about, "Should America sell its gold"???? That has to be the dumbest question I have ever heard! had to come from someone that has never had to work for a living!!!
HELLO???? OUR MONEY IS BASED ON GOLD!!!! IF WE SELL IT, OUR MONEY IS THEN WORTHLESS!!!! I do hope the idiots in washington are not going there!!!!!!!!!!

Well, guess I will sign off for now! Gettin cold, and sleepy! Maybe I can get some sleep! I did have a 2 hour nap today, to make up for the 8 hours I didnt get last night! I seem to sleep better in the daytime for some odd reason!!!! The best sleep I have ever gotten, was in the service, coming in off the midnight to 8 am watch! We'd eat breakfast, and take a hot shower, and I'd fall in the rack, and wake up 8 hours later in the same position that I went to sleep in!!! But, they say us old codgers dont need as much sleep as we use to!!! they only say that, cause most of us are not sleeping like we use to!!!

I believe I was gonna sign off!!!! Sooo without further adieu...we here at KOAK station wishing you clear sailing and happy trails...
Your pard the bard, beauregard

Good to know....about the coldest winter information from Ch. 13. I should know my last elec. bill was 368. That is no small potatoes either. One student got an award because he investigated and came up with there was SNOW in every state (even Hawaii) on a certain day. I appreciate someone taking the time to investigate this. Surely everyone should know, that gold buyers arn't doing you a favor, just themselves, by asking you to sell your gold....Duh.

Everyone enjoy the sunshine today, we are in for some better weather. There are buds on the trees, "shure" enough, Spring is coming, as I hop around my kitchen with the thought.

Beau, those are some very old names you mentioned. Good to hear them again though. Seems a shame that everything one achieves in this life dissipates when they leave...except for memories. Being a Christian, I know the other side will be better, but I wonder what we will do. (there will never be another Natalie Wood, Paul Neumann, smokin James Dean, Charles Bronson, etc.)those genes will never be replaced.

Annnywaaay, Those tinky toy dogs get it because they are so cute....I agree large dogs should have their own class, I vote for Rottweiller. Magnificent shoulders and head and muscular body, and eyes of loyalty and love none other possesses.

Kay
I concur wholeheartedly and might I add, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU AND TO JACKIE AND TO EVERYONE THAT IS HAVING ONE!!!

Just back off dawn patrol! Been going out on patrol later hoping it would warm up! I guess 41 degrees is warmer than 31 degrees, eh!!!! Saw all the usual suspects, ducks and coots and hawks and a slew of little boids and two tom cats!!! Boomer and Big boy! Neither one is as big as Big oliver, but he does eat pretty regular!

Cole crick still flowing, although kinda down some!
Me and Coop sat on the bank and discussed all sorts of things, like, why is it so cold??? Why do boids fly???
Why cant we fly??? Why didnt Coop win westminster???
He certainly is handsome enough!!!

Cold that it be, it shure is pretty today! Suppose to warm up to about 60! Thats a start!!!

I hope everyone slept well enough last night! Seems I got a pretty good night sleep for a change! Discovered that if I can go to sleep after midnight, I sleep pretty good! But if I go to sleep before midnight, I dont sleep!!! What the hecks that all about???? But hey, didnt take me too long to figure it out, just 64 years!! But remember now, I am slow! Flunked algebra 1 3 or four times and spanish too!!!

But thats ok, algebra and a foreign language are pretty much the same nohow!!!

Hey bernd, broke one of my GERMAN STEEL knives! I was trying to cut a bone for my boys! Of course they were made in china! Not the bones, or my boys, the knife!!! Go figure! One side of the knife says german steel, and the other side says made in china!!! Bernd, you got any pull over there???? Tell em to quit doing that! Yall make the knives there, ok!!!!!

hey Burge, you ok??? Havent heard from you in a fortnight!

My eldest son, "the shootist", ol "have gun will travel",
Is down at the George R Brown conv center working on the Sikorsky booth! Seems there is gonna be a helicopter convention! Nobody told me!!!!! I need a helicopter!!!!
Nah, just funnin ya! Dont want one of those hummingbird wannabes! They have no glide slope at all, only straight down!!!

I will be signing off for now! gonna meet my other son "Crash", for lunch!!! Where shall we go??? Angies diner?
Texas Cafe? Hmmmmm!!! He likes Paneras because he likes the greek salad! I just like food, as long as it isnt liver or fisheggs, fishheads, tripe, or bait!!!
I guess you might say I've grown particular in my old age! But I can tell you I wouldnt have eaten any of the aforementioned as a youte either!!! Although I did eat a lightening bug once!!! Well, not on purpose! they dont taste very good at all!!!!

Keep the sun at your 6, or anywhere it will keep you warm, and ride boldly ride!
Your pard the bard beauregard

Beau,
Post the magazines on ebay! I'll bet you'll make a fortune. A friend here in Austin looks for Designer type magazines here in Austin and then sells them on ebay for some spare change.

Never burned leaves as a boy, but we did burn the garbage, I guess we lived in the sticks

Beau I went for a quick walk yesterday after work. One of the neighborhood hawks was just sailing on the thermals. Absolutely magnificent to watch.

I stopped at a James Coney Island yesterday for lunch. I try not to do that very often. Trying to eat healthier you know. But a chili pie with a coney island all the way sure hit the spot. These new locations are nice places but they just don't have the atmosphere that the original location on Walker did. Back in the day when parents felt safe letting their kids ride the bus down town to go to the movie (Majestic, Metropolitan or Lowes), James Coney Island and Woolworths for an ice cream cone it was a great outing. Those old theatres had some personality didn't they? Speaking of personality has anyone been up to the recently restored Sengelmann Hall. It is in Schulenberg. It's a restaurant and dance hall. One of Hugh Roy Cullen's decendants restored it. Spent over $1M doing it. Might be worth a field trip.

Beau, my dad shared your opinion of MacArthur and Montgomery. His unit was under Monty's command for a time. His favorite WWII general was Omar Bradley.

Spring is definitely on the way. The Astros report to spring training Saturday. Wandy Rodriguez and the Astros go to arbitration today. They're arguing over whether Wandy should get paid $5M or $7M for this season. Poor devil. I don't know if he'll get by if the Astros prevale.
And with March Madness coming up we'll be able to OD on basketball!

What the heck. It's a beautiful day. This afternoon will nice and warm. Everyone enjoy it. We'll be longing for this come August.

The Chinese probably bought some old rotten German steel and fixed new Chinese knifes. But the Chinese are an old culture that knew how to fix things. Perhaps we should not buy their cheap garbage.

No spring in Berlin, 26° and snow 7 weeks by now,
