all of the posts about dogs makes me look at mine - one smart but not physically responsive (she hits walls trying to get whatever you have sent her for} the other dog is lazy. she'll go get a ball or toy when she wants to. i love them both. i will send a picture when i learn how.

It's obviously been a light day today with not much comment. I guess people are saving up for Fudd Tuesday. I don't have anything worth contributing. Another day in this not robust economy. So I'm going to shut it down and head to mi casa.

In closing tonight I'll leave you with a trivia question. Who used this closing when we were kids?
"Good night Mrs. Calabash. Where ever you are!"

"Good night,Mrs. Calabash" had to be from Jimmy Durante. Don't remember the name of his show, but I remember his voice.

The name of the show was very original.

Mrs Calabash was Jimmy Durantes mother!
Remember when he ended his show, he would sing "ink a dink a doo" and walk away from the camera to prescribed spotlights!

Kay, sorry I befuddled you on the "frahd grain damaters"
I can tell you havent hung around any east texas or arkansas people! Frahd=Fried Grain=green damaters=tomatos!!!!
But hey, you didnt know I was ambidexterouslingual!

No, seriously, ifin someone wanted to do all the werk at the next whoop de do, I would set back and let em!!! I'm not glory hungry atall! Nor a glutton for punishment!

Brought some of the flawrs (east tex for flowers) home in a vase and set them on the bar! next thing I saw, it was surrounded by 4 cats! They all woulda got up there if there had been room! Anyway, before I could get to the flawrs, the cats had pulled the greenery and flawers out, and TUMPED over the vase full of water!!! It's not like I dont have anything to do, that I need them messin up stuff!!! I hollared at em, and flushed em like a covey of quail! I mean they was flyin all over the house! Even scared the dawgs! But, they all got over it!!!

Now I remember why we dont have fresh flawrs in the house!!!

Dang dawgs were actin a fool all night long last night!
Up and down, chasing a cat, or standing staring at a wall or yawning real loud!!! Jeese loueese!!! Good thing I dont have a real job to go to! Wont be long, unless you work for walleyemart, or the guvmint, no one will have a job!!!! VOTEMALLOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I havent eaten at black eye pea in a long time! Dont like tipping for bad service! So I generally go places that have no waiters or waittresses!!! If any of you folks are looking for a great seafood place, I mentioned this before, but CAJUN TOWN on Little York at bingle is one of the best! The chef use to chef at Papadeauxs!
Been eating there for bettern ten years, and never had a complaint!!!! People drive from the other side of town for lunch, thats how good it is!!!

I do like Don Teos at 34th and Oak Forest! Got to know the good folks there pretty well! Use to be a monterey house! Same folks Just different name! Only complaint I have about the food, is the Carne Guisada! It was no good at all! But everything else is good! Plain ol Tex-Mex food! Just the way I like Mexican food!

Got to run, Jack has stunk up the library, and I hear a cat throwin up! lorda mighty! I live in the zoo!!! I know, all my doing, but still I can gripe once in a while! Be back later!

Beau Wann, Jr.

Ok, I'm back!!! I know youre just thrilled, right???
Well, Jack musta been sneaking in eating the cats food, gives him gas! Katy threw up, cause she ate too much!
Heavy sigh!!!

Watched "Bullit" with Mr Cool, steve Mcqueen! Hadnt seen that movie, since it came out! I always thought the mustang he was driving was a 69, but it wasnt! the movie was made in 68, so it looked like a 67 or 68 mustang! But dont hold me to it, cause I get mixed up on cars now and again!

Watched "ice age" and "ice age II the meltdown", instead of the stuper bowl! I havent seen the stuper bowl in more than 10 years or so! Just doesnt appeal to me anymore! Too much hype for me!!! Havent watched the whirld series in 20 or 30 years! After listening to it on the radio in Mrs. Wommacks class in 55 56 57, which ever year is applicable, and the Dodgers moved to La, it just was never the same!!!!

JACK, SHUT UP!!!!!! He is playing with his squeaky rubber chicken, and driving me crazy!!! He tore up the first ones we got him, and then figured out that if he didnt tear it up, it would make wonderful noise!
He still likes to put it in my boots, and for me to put my foot in and squeek it! Just delights him no end!!!!
Glad to oblige!!! Glad I'm such a good sport, yessiree!!!

Say, do you remember...Nah, I dont remember that either!!!! Hmmmmm
Well, it's after 9 guess I'll turn in!!!! I am gonna have to put John boy out!!! whew!!! That boy is oderiferous and outspoken!!!!
Good night mrs Simpson, where ever you are!!!

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

Hey all, I've had my 5 hours of sleep, up drinking a cup of java....now we are finding out coffee is actually good for ya, heart and all. I've always had a strong attachment for it. Hot chocolate has waaay too many calories for this girl. Well, my one and only cat refuses to shut up, think he's wondering what to do with himself since the other two are gone now. He does have one right next door, but they don't get along, except to eat each other's food and hiss at each other. The one next door is not neutered, makes a difference. Out here the coyotes usually get 'em. I'm waiting for my deer to come back, as they must travel far to avoid the hunters out here and it takes them a while to get back.

We are in for a wintry week, looks like. Better enjoy it, so we can save the memories when summer rolls around. Those restaurants sure sound good. Sometimes I wish I could get back to Oak Forest with imagined good times, restaurants and shopping and all amenities at your fingertips.

A lone convenience store in town is it for Anderson. Heard we are going to have a new cafe in town, going to disrupt the old Kotts. Beau, you may have an interest in checking it out when it opens. The service will be friendlier, I'm sure. Mr. Molina, Molina's Mexican Restaurant in Houston, lives across the road from me, wish he would open one here. He owns the one and only antique drugstore here in town and several properties. Ranches on his 245 ac. and his pond overflows into my creek giving me gazillion minnows. Mr. DeMille (grandson of Cecil DeMille practices law in town, saw them at SAMS CLUB buying fixins for the Super Bowl game this last weekend. We are just about finished with our brand new Middle/Senior school, will open Spring Break, taxes will be rising.

Pat, hope you can make it to Fudd's, sounds like ya need a little entertainment and some good food and friends. (I don't feel it is self-serving, but natural to mourn as you've lost someone very precious). I'm coming out of my 3 yrs. losing my daughter, takes about that long, getting my interest back in living and returning back to my healthier lifestyle. Gained about 15-20 lbs, stopped exercising and looking through demented glasses.

I hope that someone has contacted Fudds to be sure they will have some wine on hand, bummer last month. Although Ultra beer has only 95 calories and is a lighter beer than the two favorites - Bud Lite and Miller Lite.

We've hired a local for the maintenanceman position, lost your chance to live in a "small town" folks.

Paige, know what you mean about those retirement communities as I've seen some of the developments they quickly and non-imaginatively threw up as I rode by. Hope I can continue to live on my own for a long, long time. Exercies and healthy lifestyle does help, there are people all over here that live to their 100's. I seriously thought of establishing a over 55 community of manufactured homes placed stratically over the property with a path right around the 14 ac. in order to walk or run, with the Barn in the center for community meals and sporatic gatherings and a fish pond next to it. Kids and grandchildren could visit. but there would be no permanent living with us old folks. May still have to do that for a retirement job.

Anyway next town is 8 mi. away and doesn't have much, not even a Super WalMart yet. Shopping is in Paige's town 30 mi. away, they actually have a mall and Lowes and Home Depot, Tues. Morn. and plenty of restaurants, but you have to mingle with all the college kids and driving is getting to be like Houston there.

People live longer here as there are ot as many fast-food eateries to indulge and poison the ole body and brain. I would love to see Katy Couric's show tomorrow night, although I pretty much know what to expect, on antibotics injected into cattle and chickens, another harmful poison for us to injest at the fast food places as well. Maybe I should be thinking of raising only organic cows and go into the chicken business. I now get my eggs from chickens raised just outside a Richards home here, no antibiotics and delicious. Told if I didn't refrigerate them, they could turn into little chickens (guess I would have to sit on em though).

Guess I'll quit and maybe get a quick nap before 6 a.m. and leave the coffee alone.

Kay, sorry about your daughter. We lost our eldest son at the end of last September. It was a sudden heart attack - the suddeness was a blessing in a way because he would have really hated to linger on. My wife Lil still gets hit with 'moments', often at random. Folks around us says that this is natural, that it will take at least a year, etc. This was on top of 'transitions' of several close uncles & aunts last year. I guess we are of an age where these things happen more. Life is precious so enjoy the moments we have together. I knew this was important when the kids were small because they grow up so fast but I never imagined it would be important later in life as well.

Good morning and it really is a georgeous one isn't it?Bernd, sorry about your weather. We've got bright sunshine, blue sky and it's about 45 right now.

You trivia responders are correct.

Beau, or should I say Quas, go over to Tecate's on
Ella Blvd. for some good Carne Guisada. Their seafood soup is excellent as is the sopa de pollo. For those not familiar with it, it is behind Memorial NW Hospital. Used to be Slater's years ago. You are right on about good seafood. I've been going to Cajun Town for a long time also. Check the Leader for discount coupons. Gives you $5 off a $20 check.

Kay and Steve from what I've read losing a child is the hardest form of loss you can go through. I'm very sorry about your loss but glad you're moving forward.

Paige how is your shoulder healing? Well I hope. I've been trying to remeber the name of a really good Italian restaurant in College Station. We had a really good get together there when my niece graduated from A&M. It is in a strip center and has been there for years. Any thoughts?

It is a gorgeous day!! Hope everyone can join us at Fudd's tonight -- bundle up. Burge, sorry you cannot make it in this trip. Keep us posted when you are having your back surgery - and hopefully in the next couple of months we'll see you at Fudd's.

Beau sounds like a beautiful celebration for your in-laws - 60 years of marriage - wow that's a statement for this day and time.

Pat, Kay, Steve, Marty Alexander, Lola Smith Croom, Marilyn W and others that have lost a child or grandchild - my heart goes out to you - I feel your pain.

I lost my only sister when she was 13. It wasn't until I had my own children that the impact really hit me - how in the world did my parents keep going.

As difficult as it was, there were laughs and fun in the years ahead with my parents. All I can say is they relied on their Faith, Family and Friends to see them through.

There's always heartache in death - losing a sibling, parent, spouse --- but your child - that has to be the pain of all pain. But as Kay said, it's okay to grieve - you miss them -- you don't have to be a super woman or man - you have that right.

Keep their memory alive because they are with you and always will be - death is not a final stage - it's just another step and you will be with them again when you take your step.

We are all here to help you through -- get on the forum, email, call or whatever - just let us know. And we pray that God gives you Strength and Comfort.

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

God Bless you --

J

Paige, I got the name. Are you familiar with Cenare on University? Kay, if you go to CS to get your corn meal, coffee, bacon and sugar for the month it's worth stopping there. That's what you country folk go to town for, right?

Burge, how are things in Texarkana other than COLD? Your computer hasn't frozen has it?

Beau, didn't we all wish we could be as cool as Steve McQueen/Frank Bullit? It is going to be a bit airish the next few mornings when you and Coop go on dawn patrol. I'll take a hike after work when it's warmer. I don't want you to think that I won't venture out into the frigid temps. I will go out and get the paper off the driveway. I won't tary long though, I don't want my coffee to get cold.

Hope to see a lot of Waltripians at Fudd's tonight.

Downright I do!! Got my wagon and mules loaded up and ready to hit the trail!! LOL.

Yes, Cenare used to be one of those high falutin restaurants, so the commercial used to say, but being from Houston, I never could get the atmosphere parked in a shopping center with all glass....Hello!

What's it all about, Alfie....la, la, la, la. Careful all, I'm on a high today with all the sunshine.

02/09/10 11:51 PM #2194

Beau Wann, Jr.

Great greetings to all our friends and classmates of W64!!! Just got home from the Monthly Board meeting at Fudds!!! We agreed it was so much fun, that we voted to keep meeting forever and ever amen!!!! )thank you Randy Travis( oops, looks like I got the () mixed up! Wellm, you know what I mean!!!!! SQUEEK SQUEEK SQUEEK, guess you know who showed up!!!! Yup, my other dog, John boy with his rubber squeeky chicken!!!!

Anyway, we all had a great time at fudds!!! Had one new person, Richard Kennedy! Well, he isnt perzactly new, he is our age, but this is the first time he has been to fudds! Saw him weekend before last at reliant center! hadnt seen him in 45 years! If you havent been, and you dont live too far away, like Berlin, Texas, do try to make it to fudds!!! What a wonderful time everyone seems to have! I have a great time!!! And thanks to Jackie and
Barbara for giving me a ride home! Yeah, I bummed a ride!

The conversations ranged from Oak Forest Elementary to the current administration, and in between!!!
One of the things to come up, is the super ultra sensitive people out there that just cant stand this word, or that word! It just boggles the mind all the super sensitve people out there! Hell, everyone picks boogers out of their noses just like everyone else! AINT NO ONE THAT SPECIAL!!!!

The new offending word, is RETARDED!!!!!! Yup, the R word!!! Just boggles the mind!!! Before anyone starts having a cow over my use of the word, My wife taught special ed for 30 years, and is now a supervisor, and some of the folks I talked to are now, or have been special ed teachers! None of them are offended by the R word!!! All you motor heads out there, when you tune an engine up, and set the timing, which is critical, you either ADVANCE THE TIMING, OR RETARD THE TIMING!!!!

Now, My first wife has two, countem, two retarded brothers! And guess what, Mr Browne, Dollys father, father of the two brothers, founded MHMR council!!!
Yup, thats correct, Mental Health Mental Retardation council!!! I have worked with these two young men before, and since their minds have not advanced, their minds are,Retarded!!!! They aresweet and lovable guys. They can do a lot of tasks, but not brain surgery, like me!!!

They both have held jobs of sorts, and may still have a job! Havent seen them this year, but the year is young!!!
I have worked with Special Olympics in the past, and a greater group of kids, I have never met than these!
Mickey and Jackie have participated in the special olympics before! One year at Del Mar stadium! They both entered the softball throw! Well, both softballs are orbiting the earth, as we speak! They threw them out of the stadium, somewhere over 290 and 610!!!! If you have never been to a special olympic event, go!!! you are in for a treat!!!

So what do you say when you talk about a "special brother or sister"! I have a retarded brother??? Or a "special" brother! Either way, folks know what you are talking about, and neither one is derogatory, in my opinion, nor in the opinion of the Special Ed teachers I have talked to, or parents of "special" children!!!

Now the R word controversy started with Rahm Emmanuel, Pres Os cheif SS officers use of the R word! Calling his presidents own political base "F---in retards", and has since apologized for it! Big deal, and so what!!!! Which only goes to show you, that you dont have to wait too long before some one is offended about something!!!! seems like there are a certain class of folk out there that is just waiting to be offended so they can protest and possibly get in their 15 minutes of fame! Even the people reporting on Emmanuels use of the R word, were blasted!

My wife has a cousin that has a son that has Downs syndrome! Such a sweet sweet child! He is about 20 now!
Just saw him at his aunts funeral! He just cried and cried and hugged people! Whens the last time any of us acted that way???? Probably never!Me being a macho guy, never!!! But, my loss eh??? William even spoke at his aunt candys funeral. Mostly unintelligable because of the emotion, but we all understood the emotions and sentiments, even if we didnt understand the words! But was william embarrased??? Nah!!!! Would I have been??? You bet!!! But why??? one word, Upbringing!!!!! Just the way I was raised, as most of us were! "Show no emotion"!!!! It's a sign of weakness!!! REally????

Oh, Mickey and Jacky, my brothers in law, are both in their 60s now! They werent expected to live this long! Dont know why though! I will miss them when they do move on, but when that time comes, they will be home, at last!!!! Whether you believe in a higher being for us or not, you have to believe in one for the "special"boys and girls among us!!!! I do believe we are supposed to learn from them, which technically, makes US Retarded!!!
hell, some days my thinking is retarded!!! Just frustrates me no end!!!!

Special??? Werent we all little boys and girls at one time???? We were special once then too!!! I think we are all still pretty doggone special, dont you????

Just heard the S word on the news!!!!!! "SMOWMAGGEDON"!!!
aBOUT the snow in the east!!! Hey Bernd, is it snowing there??? Do you get our snow??? I mean does it snow here, and then move on to your place???

It is freezing here!!! Well, metaphorically speaking of course! bt it is cold as hell!!! Now theres anoxymoron if I ever uttered one, "cold as hell"!!!

We need to start a book, or history group!!! Dontchathink???? I am rereading C S Lewis "A Grief Observed", and "Mere Christianity"! His works are a might wordy, and very intellectually stimulating!!!
In "Mere Christianity", he is almost frantic trying to get across the fact that he believes in God, and you shoud too!!! He was an atheist at one point in his life, but found religion sometime in the late 30s or early 40s!!! He also wrote "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe", and "The Narnia Chronicles", both of which my Grandchildren have read!!!

One of the best childrens books I have ever read, was
"A Wrinkle In Time" by Madame L Engal (sp)! I generally dont like science fiction, but this book was just wonderfully written!!!!

I really want to thank all the folks at fudds for being so special!!! I didnt get to talk at length to a lot of folks, and I guess there just isn t time to do that! Generally only 2 to 3 hours divided among about 50 or 60 people! That be my onliest (east texas for only) complaint! Just seeing all the familiar faces, is satisfying! So, thanks!

Hey Kay, Tony, we missed you!!!! And also all others that couldnt make it! Hey Wayne L, you stuck in the snow in Minnitonka???? Well, guess I will call it a night, for now! Maybe I'll be back before the dawn patrol!!!
Hey Burge, we are all in your corner!!! Dont forget that!!!! We will all be praying for all with concerns! You know who you are, and so do we!!!! You are and will be in our prayers!

Being a "special" child, as we all are, or have been, I'm reminded of a poem by Thomas Hood, or which the last stanza goes like this;
"I remember, I remember,
The fir trees dark and high;
I use to think their slender tops
Were close against the sky;
It was a childish ignorance,
But now tis little joy
To know I'm further off from heaven
Than when I was a boy."

Goodnight Mrs Simpson where ever you are!
And I'm sorry about slaughtering the english language, and dashing english protocol to smithereens, I do know better, but it's what I do best, and it does produce a smile, even if just from mine own lips!!!

Hey DougR and RichardM, the Southern Generals full name we were tryingt to think of is, Pierre Gustave Toutant-Beauregard! Very successful after the uncivil war! Adapted very well in industrializing the south! ran railroads and supervising the notorious Louisiana Lottery. One of my many good books! I need to reread it! Thats the problem with having a poor memory, cant remember what I read!!! Well, at least I can read, eh hoser!!!

you know, my attitude has changed considerably since my ill vested youte! I rode my motorcycle today, and even though it was cold, it was invigorating and wonderful!
I went to Dennys for breakfast/lunch, and someone mentioned that it was sure "tough weather to be riding on a motorcycle today"! My reply was, "it isnt raining"!!! Now years ago, my reply would have been, "yeah, too damn cold"! But I'm amazed at the turnaround in mineownselfs inner attitude!

Amazing thing my iron horse!!! best damn therapist I've ever encountered! No offense to our classmate, Dr Walker!!!!

"Sleep sweet within this quiet room,
O thou, whoe'er thou art,
And let no mournful yesterdays
Disturb thy peaceful heart.

Nor let tomorrow mar thy rest
With dreams of coming ill:
Thy Maker is they changeless friend,
His love surrounds thee still.

Forget thyself and all the world,
Put out each garish light:
The stars are shining overhead-
Sleep sweet! Good night! Good night!

Hey Beau,

it is snowing in the morning. It seems to be sibirian snow and doesnt seem to be communist infiltrated, just light ordinary white soft gentle snow and its great looking outside or even walking (or jogging) on the lakes.

Ive got to leave for work now,

Who was asking about the great Italian food in the Brazos Valley? I think the good food restaurant in College Station is Frittelia Italian Cafe on Texas Avenue.

Also, if you're planning to travel North on Highway 6 for the next few days - DON'T - a company is moving a HUGE generator to a new power plant in Reisel (sp?) That big monster moves only 10 miles A DAY!Our local TV says the back-up on 6 is bad.

Keep smiling. Hugs to all! Lynn

Hey Beau and all,

My condolences to all for having missed me...lol as I was dressed and ready to go last night, sat down to catch Katie Couric about the antibiotics in animals and fell asleep, didn't know I was that tired, even though I had gotten up at 2 or 3 a.m. Guess I was where I was supposed to be. Hope Paige made it. You all must start thinking of having a get together a bit closer to us a few times a year or we are all going to have to drive in together. Doesn't make sense for 3 cars to have to go that far on a work night. I was looking forward to it though.

Loved your essay on the "R" word. I won't get into politics, other than to say the never ending, pointing the finger out, should be pointed in; everything and everyone involved in spewing vengence, hate, lies and non-negotiating between supposedly intelligent? elected officials should be demoted or thrown out of office. This is the saddest, perhaps the most ignorant display of the two parties, that everyone is watching throughout the world. Don't we look effective! Go back to what you learned in Kindergarten (book about that) and what your mother would say about the behavior.

Take care all, (Kay, climbing into another partyboat to escape the stupidity being shown by the two parties we voted for). Good night, Irene.

Lynn, the slow moving monstrosity has moved way past Bryan, on it's way to Riesel, TX.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Kay,
So, you said the S word...sleep!!! Yeah, I know it be a touchy thing, especially ifin you dont get any! Sleep!!!!! Hey Bernd, make a snow angel for us all!!!
The ol SA word!!! Got to go out on patrol, running Late, the L word! Got boocoo of werk to do today! I need to be at least 4 people!

I would be willing to move the Fudds group closer to youse!!! Why shucks ma'am, I'd be willin to make a shuttle run with the W4 yellow bus! Ceptn my bus is silver and got the M word on it... Mud!!!!

You know, I had a free breakfast at Dennys yesterday! I generally dont go in for free stuff, cause it always costs someone something, or just never works out for me!
Well, they advertised a free grand slam breakfast, and I was out and about on my iron horse, so I stopped in and got in line, my second mistake! the first, just showing up for something free!!! Any way I had to stand in line with you know who dont you, the N word, the M word, and the H word... Yup, the Nice, the Mean, and the Hungry...

Anyway got inside, and sat down at the counter, since I was the P 1 words... "Party of One". Had my gloves in my helmet, and my helmet in my hands, and the W word showed up...Waitress.. and promptly spilled a glass of the OJ word in my helmet... that would be Orange juice!

So now, I have to figure out a way to do the C word on it...clean it so it isnt the S word...Sticky!!!
Folks that came in after me were getting waited on, and I wasnt! Finally got waited on, only to have my breakfast given to someone else! Finally got my free breakfast which cost 2 dollars for a cup of coffee, and got up and did the L word...Left!!!!

So, me and free dont generally get along! If I cant clean my helmet, and gloves, we're talking over a 200 dollar free breakfast!
My furshlerginer computer is fixin to go into the U word...Update, so I got to get off!

It was really great to see all who attended Fudd Tuesday last night! What a great way to spend an evening, chatting with friends.

Okay here is a trivia challenge for you. I'm pretty good at these but my sister Becky ('68) stumped me witht his one. Now don't go Google this. Use your own gray matter!
On the tv series Bonanza, what was the given name of the character Hoss, played by Texan, Dan Blocker?
