Beau Wann, Jr.
Lloyd, yes you are very lucky! Happy birthday to your sister too!!! You want to hear the scratch of the needle on the 45's, come to my house and listen to my juke box! I'll bet I have most of Elvis 45s! And Ricky Nelson too!
Kay, I saw your fish, they went south for the winter! My friend Ken from San leon down around galveston, says when the water gets this cold, the fish float to the top and you just pick em up and throw em in the back of your pickup!!!! He wanted me to go "ice fishing" or "frozen fishing" with him, but I said I was too busy! Had to straighten out my sock drawer!!! I aint about to get out in no stinking frozen water in this cold! Be my luck, the boat would turn over, or something good like that would happen! Not on your life!
Took coop out on patrol this morn and this evening, and it was cold enough without being in no stinkin water!!! If I want fish, which I dont, I'll open a can of tuna!!!
What square fish is it that they get fish sticks from???
This cold has really put a hurt on my lungs and just about every bone/joint in my strong young supple beautiful body!!! Been packed in hot rice bags... whew, just remembered I left em on the couch, and the boys are now on the couch! Whew, I guess they didnt see them! Good!!!
Hey thanks linda for the geography lesson on the "new austin"! Spent considerable time up there after my first marriage didnt take! Had a girlfriend that lived in austin and taught math at one of the highschools! WOW, she was something else! So Beautiful and brilliant! She was the kind of person it was a pleasure to be around! Always made you feel good about yourself! I Had an aunt like that also! You know the type, made you feel like you were the most important person on earth!!!!!
Melanie was my girlfriends name! We dated for 2 years, but she wouldnt marry me! My loss for sure!!! She became the principal of Alief Highschool back in the late 80's! We remained friends until she died of cancer in 1998! Such a loss for this world! I sure have missed having her in this world! Dont worry though, she and Diane were good friends! Seems they had several things in common, they were both good teachers, and me! Melanie even came to our wedding, invited of course! I woulda been hard pressed to choose betweent the two if given that choice! I think I woulda had to start a two wife cult!!!
Sorry about that trip down memory lane, I was talking about early Austin! She lived down on South 1st st, and we could get from one side of Austin to the other in any direction in 15 minutes!!! Now it's like Houston, cant get anywhere at anytime!
We hung out at Hamilton pool when it was private property! And Krauses springs! And lake travis! spent sometime at Hippy hollow too! There is, or was a church at the southeast end of the lake, high up on a bluff that overlooked the lake! The side of the church that was towards the lake was all glass and at the pulpit end of the sanctuary! We even attended a few services there! Beautiful scenery behind the preacher! Lots of sailboats etc...
Got to know all the good eateries, like Holiday House! Great hamburgers!!!! They also had a pet aligator in a moat!!! Also the Feed Lot, was at the top of ssome hill on some highway, and was absolutely the finest food in the land! Also Christies and Nighthawks! I might have those last two mixed up, it's been a while since I was there!
My mom and dad had some property west of Austin about 17 miles called Deercreek something or another! Melanie and her roommate went camping with me and my roommate in November of 74 or 75! I remember it was November, because all three of them had a birthday in November! My roommate and her roommate later on got married to each other, and are still married!!!
But anyway, that night just happened to be one of the coldest nights ever in Austins recorded history! I think it got to 11 or 12! We stayed in tents, and when we woke up the next morn, there was an inch of ice on the "Navy issued watch cap" (100% wool cap) I was wearing! Good thing I had it on, my pea brain woulda been "birdseye pea brain"!!!!
When we got back to her place, we thawed out in the tub full of hot water the rest of the weekend! Too personal???? I dont mean it to be, it was just a most important time in my life! I really grew up those two years! Finally learned how to treat a woman! Guys are so stupid sometimes! There should be a class in how we are supposed to treat one and other! Some folks dont seem to get that at home, or at least you dont get how to treat others outside the family!!!
Melanie also loved my sons too! And that was the most important thing to me!!! Being a great teacher, she knew how to get the best out of her students, and anyone she met and interacted with.
Is sheplers still at 290 and 35??? I loved that place! We use to have a sheplers or two here at one time! Use to get their catalog!!!
We havent been to Austin since before 1991!
I liked New Braunfels! Has it changed much! I remember coming home on leave in winter of 67! visited San Antonio and New Braunfels then, and It was so cold and icey!!! How about Wimberly? Anyone been there in a while? I think it became mostly a retirement community!
Fredricksburg was a cool place to visit! No night life there Back in late 80's early 90's! Rolled up the sidewalks at dark! Visited the Nimitz museum back then, and it was free, and hardly any visitors! I hear now Fredricksburg is booming and busy! I guess thats good!
Well, I'm just ramblin like a lunatic! Eyes hurtin and body is hurtin, so gonna go lay on some hot rice bags!
Oh, just a silly observance, but I noticed that no matter how cold it gets, "us southerners", have got to have our ice tea! 21 degrees, and I'm shivering and drinking ice tea, and going, "Hmmm Hmmm good"!!!
May the warmth of heaven heat your home!!! Nanook of oak frosty
