Beau Wann, Jr.

Paige, thanks for the memory! I guess other neighborhoods had/have what we had/have! Just seems to be an "oak forest" bond! Kind of like we use to read about the "Bronx", "Flatbush" etc!!! I believe it's been said before, I wouldnt trade that time and place for anything! During that time, I guess we didnt think it was so special, but looking back, it is a treasure trove filled with, how did Burge put it, the "the fabric of a woven tapestry"???? My favorite colored fabric or tapestry, would be a dark tartan plaid, if thats how you say it!!!

Found some BEEF BEEF BEEF neck bones at kroger, boiled em up and made a beef stock for some homemade soup!
Turned out pretty good! I added english peas to it, which is the wrongest thing to add! Shoulda been lima beans! Well, it didnt hurt it any! But I rescued the bones after it boiled for a couple o hours, and froze them! I take two out and give them to Jack and Cooper every now and then! Keeps em busy for an hour or so! They dont care if the bones are frozen either, plus there is still some meat left on them! Just thought I'd share that with you good "oak forest folks"! See, I discover something new every day! NOW, THAT IS BEEF NECK BONES BEEF BEEF BEEF!!!!! I wouldnt want you to give your dogs chicken or turkey, so dont!!!!!!

Gonna get colder and damp too! I like cold weather, just my body doesnt!!! I have been hurting so bad, have to have a cane to move around! TELL ME, JUST WHEN IN THE HELL DID I GET SO OLD??????????????????????????????
Jeeze loueeze!!!!

I have work to do dangit!!! Just about fell out of the attic putting up christmas decorations, with my crippled up old clumsy self!!!
I thought Christmas was supposed to be fun!!!!!
Well, that wouldnt been fun! My beloved would of had to make splints out of frozen fruitcakes, secured with duck tape, and have a hand truck to deliver me to Fudds!!!!

Need to hire an athletic young girl, preferrably out of college with her own car and doesnt need braces or health care, to help around the house! Of course her duties would include cleaning the pool! And I believe uniform of the day would be an itsy bitsy teeny weeny any color bikini! For her, not me!!!! I have my standard SPEEDO that I wear to drive all the women wild!!! And of course, I would have to supervise, and make sure she was doing right!!!!

Went to church yesterday, and there was almost 30 of us! Not enough to help the heater make the sanctuary warm!!
Put up all the Christmas decorations! I noticed that a few of the ornaments and things had a strip of duck tape on them! Looked like my beloveds handy work
!!! Looked normal to me! Probably dont see duck tape on the decorations at 2nd or 1st Baptist, and they probably hire a crew to do all that! Well, as soon as we get a thousand more parishoners, we can hire it done, and throw out all the duck taped decorations!!!

Put up our own decorations at the house, and Diane has them all labeled and dated as to when and where we got them!!! there are even a few that SHE fixed with small pieces of duck tape! I woulda just throwed em away, but not her! "Oh dear, do you remember this one, it was our very first that we bought together" she would say! And I better say, " why I sure do sweetie, remember it well, I just love that one" if I know whats good for me that is!
I didnt know that I was gonna have a pop quiz on christmas decorations flung at me! Hells bells, and I didnt even study for it! Well they are all packed up, and just about almost all in the attic!

Waiting for next year!!! I hate that it is the year 2010!!! Of course compared to the alternative, I guess it is ok!!! I think 1949 or 50 would be a good year to go back to, maybe 1955 through 1964! I wouldnt want to redo school, but if I could redo all the rest, that would be cool!!! Well, maybe I could skip my broken arm, and the 8 foot long splinter I got under the toe nail of my big toe, and all the asthma attacks, and other maladies, but everything else would be ok!!!

Remember how you couldnt wait till you were the next year old??? Then 10 was a big year, 13, you were an official teenager! 16, you got your drivers license, then 18, then the next big day was 21!!! When you turned 25, your car insurance would go down! After that, I was just glad to make it to the next year and beyond!!!! It's been 64 and a half of those years! Time sure does fly when your having fun!!!

Remember when you got your first bike????
Got my first bike when I was ten and then only had two my whole career as a kid! Heck, most kids have about a half dozen or more bikes now before they get their first dozen cars!!! Both my bikes were schwinns! The first was just your standard fare, but my second had chrome fenders and was 3 speed and had hand brakes! It was so cool!!! I'll bet we all logged a million miles just in oak forest between the lot of us!!!! I had ridden mine to sears on shepherd, and down to the heights and of course all over oak forest!!!

"Burgers and frys and cherry pies", !!!!!!!!!

Gonna sign off, Jack is barkin his fool head off, so gotta see whats going on! I hope it's intruders, cause I'm hurtin so bad, I'm feeling particularly mean rat now!!! Letsee, where is the ammo for my bazooka!!!

Keep the sun at your 6, or anywhere you can, and ride boldly ride, or just sit by the fireplace boldly!!!

I vividly recall, in 1951 to about 53, my older brother, Wayne, "pumping" me from Kindergarten to 2nd grade to Oak Forest Elementary on his Western Flyer bicycle with my legs firmly planted in his his "Houston Post" canvas saddle bags astride the back tire.

Does anyone else remember Mr Carlisle? who was Wayne's 6th grade teacher and who was unfortunately murdered years later in the late 60's somewhere over in the Heights area in a "supposed" homosexual tryst.

In retrospect, I do, indeed, recall Mr Carlisle being very close to my brother and constantly holding me, and other boys, up on his shoulders in his class, but to my knowledge, Mr Carlisle never actually went any further than this.

Beau Wann, Jr.

I remember the name, but not a face!
Hell, if he was gay, put a watermellon on his head, and danced around the school nekid, I wouldnt have noticed, thats how little I paid attention in school, and how naive I was, and how much I played in the dirt!! I loved playing in the dirt with my army men and tanks and cars etc! Didnt much notice anything else, except what was going on in my imagination and in the dirt!!! Now I hate dirt!!!! I do, I freely admit being an anti-dirtite and dirtaphobe!!! There, I said it!!!!

Naive??? Man, I have been so naive about things in this whirld, I'm surprised I've lived this long!!!

Had a friend in the Navy, my first duty station, Patrol Squadron 31. He was a very well turned out sailor! Uniform, whether dungarees or dress blues or whites, he was immaculate! Shoes looked like mirrors!!! Like he stepped right off a poster for the Navy! Very articulate, well read, and just a super nice guy! We were very good friends! One night as we were out on midwatch, he told me he was getting a medical discharge! I was shocked, but tried not to sound it or show it! I, in my naivety, asked if he was alright, careful not to pry! He just smiled and laughed a little, and said yeah, he was fine!

I let it go at that, thinking he had a real medical problem, like cancer, or something really bad!!! It did not dawn on me until a few years back, that he was gay!!!!!!!! I remember him talking about Johnny Mathis being gay! I quickly rebutted and said, "no way"! Any man that can sing that beautiful to a woman, can not be gay!!! He said he had met him at a party in Philadelphia before the Navy, and that he could confirm that he was!
"NAAAAAAAH, get out a here, there aint no way" I was adamant!!! Actually his word was "queer", not gay!
But, like a lot of conversations service men have, they are constantly changing, and we quickly moved on to some other topic!

He was really a very nice guy! As I said, very articulate, and also black! Thats probably why I thought he was wrong about someone being "queer"! I had never heard of a black man being gay!!! Of course, in my naive condition, I hadnt heard of many things!!! But I wish him well, and often wondered how he was doing! I have had numerous gay friends I worked with, that now are all deceased due to aids!!!!

I was watching TCU and Boise St play football, but TCU is stinkin up the joint!!! I swear, it seems most football teams have one game plan, and one game plan only, and by gum, they aint gonna change it for nothing!!! It also looks like they dont watch any game films of the other teams, so when they get to a bowl game, or 'THE BIG GAME", they just fold up like a broken lawn chair!!! Seems that most Texas teams are cut from that mold! Cant figure out why none of the teams dont have a plan B, or C! Hell, I sure would!!!

Even the proteams look like that, just plan A, and thats it!!!! Oh well, that didnt work, lets keep trying it until it does, or the clock runs out, which is generally the case, "TIME HAS EXPIRED", you lose!!!

The Longhorns are famous for being late out of the chute, and then when they finally get rolling in the 3rd quarter, if they are playing any team of substance, they gonna lose! I'm putting my money on Alabama in the BCS bowl! I hope Texas wins, but I dont think they have a snowballs chance, with all the hype going on with Colt McCoy et al!!!

I think the only reason Tech won their bowl game, was because the other team looked like they didnt do their homework and watch any game films on Tech! Plus all the controversy! I finally had to shut the sound off because the talking heads wouldnt shut up about it!!!
WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT ANDY OR LEACH OR ANY OF EM???
In the grand scheme of things, they dont matter a tinkers damn in this whirld!!!

Boy, I'm just ramblin like a crazy person!!1 Hell, I are a crazy person!!!!

It's truly a sad day though! Been helping Kevin shut down his office and showroom! He is moving to his house in katy! We sure worked hard to build up that business!
Had two warehouses, and a nice showroom, and at one time, a dozen employees! But thanks to dishonest customers and the govermint, small businesses are shutting down in droves! Almost every business that was in this complex with us, has closed up! Been 9 years!!! And all for naught!!!

A lot of it has to do with builders being liars and thieves, without exception!!! I dont care how good your prices are, and ours could beat anyones, or how good your service was, and once again ours was the best, the maggot builders did not want to pay!!! None ever paid on time the whole time we were in business!!! They would ly about everything! they would break the product we sent out, and then swear it was broken when they got it! I have never seen so many dishonest people in my life! I hated it when a builder was building his own home, that meant he expected us to give him 2 or 3 thousand dollars or more worth of merchandice, for free! And for all those out there that think "free" is good, it aint!!!
Someone has to pay for it somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, it's just sad to have to shut a business down!
Oh, the building industry also suffered because fannie mae and freddy mac and other mortgage lenders were INSTRUCTED rather forcefully by the clinton gang to be more free with loans! In other words give ARM mortgages to people that couldnt pay them back, and they knew they couldnt pay them back! But oh well, the taxpayer will bail us out!!!

Well, anyway, I hate to see Kevin have to shut the doors! Even though he is moving operations to his home, it wont be the same, and never is! Last year started off bad for him with his wreck, and now this year closing the showroom down, and oh yeah, he has the flu!!! I know, things are tough all over!!!

Sure would like to go back to my oak forest days in the 50's!!!!
Think I will sign off for now!
Something is up, all the critters are up and wandering aimlessly around the house! Cooper is standing in a corner staring at the wall!!!????? That boy is strange!!! Annie is curled up in the Office Max sack that came in the sunday paper; Big Oliver is walking around on the dinning room table making it creak; STOP THAT YOU CRAZY CAT!!!! Think I'll go outside in the cold and wait for it to snow, or me to freeze, which ever comes first!
Good night Mrs Simpson, where ever you are!!!

I saw this important piece of news buried on the back page of the Chronicle this morning. There's a new invention, a cross between a toaster and an electric blanket. It's for people who want to pop up out of bed in the morning! Pretty cool huh?

Going back down to South Texas this week. This cold weather should have the big ones on the move. See yall on down the road.

O.K. Beau, I'll play Mrs. Simpson today.

I agree with what you say on the small business ventures. Usually, in my opinion, small business entrepreneurs are people with integrity that are smart enough to bet on themselves and deal with adversity, but they are also the ones who've caught it in the neck. Ten yrs ago, if you lost your job, one could re-manufacture oneself, go out and start a business and do better. There seems to not be a safe place to land these days. Hopefully, there will be a turnaround 2nd half of this year when the banks start lending again, 'course if they look at our many credit profiles, they may seek to avoid us.

It is freezing out here in Anderson, I'm requesting we get off Thurs and take a snow day, even if we have to come back Friday, it is promising to be 18 deg. sleet, ice and only warming up to 33? None of us need to be out in that!!!! I try to keep the house temp down to 72, but last night, it was TinkerBell (dog) or me...up to 76! and a very hot shower this morning. Ahh Bliss.

Sure hope that the 12th is warmer for Fudd's night.

On a serious note, just knowing that we've lost two former classmates, Marilyn and Donna, gives all of us pause to think about our own circumstances, hopefully, to improve them, and to be grateful, that they did share their lives with us "Rams". My heartfelt sympathy to their family and loved ones.

Hang in there, Beau, and coddle yourself this winter, nothing to prove by over exerting, you all as well. I know I'm taking it easy. They say Ashmatics and people with heart conditions, do not do well in cold, trying to be active.....so relax and enjoy.

Got to get up from the forum and get busy.. I'm taking the hot water heater ou today to get ready for the installers to put in a new kitchen floor.

Probably not a good time to be without hot water with all this frigid weather. Up in Canada I see that Yellow knife is -34. glad to be under the X in Texas.

kAY, thanks for the encouraging words!
Went on patrol with coop this morn, 30 freakin gredees! That ol boy dont care how cold it is! I was so bundled up, I could hardly move! At least if I fell down, I'd be well padded, but getting up woulda been impossible! Took my furshlerginer cane with me! Felt and looked stupid!!!
Lord-a-mighty this cold hurts me! I know I'm not alone!
Whatever ailment I may have, someone else has the same or worse! If you fit the worse category, my sympathys!!!

Theo, I dont have trou ble getting out of bed on a cold morning, my cats shove me out, and one of the dogs grabs my ankle and drags me into the kitchen! "ok, I'm up"!

Generally the smell of coffee or bacon cooking will work its aphrodesiac muscle on me and pull me nose first into the kitchen!!!!! There is no finer odor than bacon and coffee!!!

Wayne???? Are you still in Minna-sooota???
How's that global warming working out for you at the north pole???? 34 below zero I think is what I saw, somehwere in minna-soooota!!!!

SAAAAAY, did anyone watch the Twilight Zone marathon on newyears eve and day???? Anyone??? Doug, Lloyd, anyone?
I love the Twilight Zone!!!!! Forgot to ask santa for the entire definitive collection! Now I got to wait till my birthday!!! I can only watch it for about 12 hours, then I have to change to something else, like andy griffith!!!!

Lloyd, how did that Water Heater removal come out?
Get your floor in? What kind of floor? I been thinking about putting a wood floor in the library, dinning room and foyer! I like a dark wood, but not sure which one will stand up to dog and cat claws and urine! So far, no accidents from the dogs, but one cat in particular sometimes misses the litter box! I know, I know, thats just bad, but whatcha gonna do??? I'm not going to get rid of any of the critters! I took on the responsibility, and I shall see it through as I have every responsibility I have ever undertaken!!!

Well, you cant count the lawnmower in the swimming pool, I never did like it anyway, and it was possessed!!!

You all ready for the next bout of global warming cold air???
Gotta sign off for now! The little woman executive is on her way home, and I dont have anything started for supper!!! Shame on me!!! I dont even have any fishsticks!!! Whatever is a young man to do????

Be cool and stay warm!

Your last post said it was 8:48 PM?????? It was 8:08 when I read it! You are 7 hours ahead of us!!! How is it possible for the time to not only be 7 hours off, but 40 minutes off also!!! Is that the new math? or old algebra? doo dee doo doo, doo dee doo doo...
we have been transported to the "Twilight Zone"!!!

Cold cold cold!!!!!!! Me and the lovely DW and Coop and Jack, went on evening patrol! Saw nothing unusual, reported same!!! Now home lounging watching the orange bowl! Ah, two teams I dont care anything about! I am watching it in HD digical!!! I can see the pores and pimples on these guys faces, and the nose hair!!!!
AAAAAIIIIIIEEEEEEE, I dont want to see that stuff! I will admit, the picture is crystal clear! Almost like looking out the window!!! Will wonders never cease???

It's me again margaret!!!
2:24 AM and I'm awake! Well duh, obviously, unless...Rod Serling has control over my laptop!!!
Doo Dee Doo Doo...

Got up because I was burning up!!! I kept turning the controls down on our EEElectric blankie with a brain, but the more I turned it down, the hoter I got!!! Finally turned it off, and still got hotter! "How can this be"? I exclaimed beligerently!!! Oh it be brother!!!
My beloved is on the other side of the bed shivering!!!
What tha????

She's over there turning her controls up and has no heat!!!!???? Hmmmmm!!! Well I'll be dipped in dark chocolate and peanut butter!!! Seems when I put the EEElectric blankie with a brain on the bed, I forgot to use my brain! Yup, you guessed it, I got the controls mixed up!

Dang, now I'm awake and freezing, typing at this furshlerginer computer, thinking that there is someone out there reading it, and gonna respond to my fershlerginer typing!!! WRONG, laptop man!!!!
Oh well and oh well!!! Hot cold, hot cold, my body cannot make up it's mind!!!

Ok, I'm going back to bed, that is if I can get back under the covers held down by 5 cats! They were a mite perturbed when I got out of bed, prolly not gonna like it when I get back in bed!!! They'll get over it!

Oh, I found some new flashlights today at home depot, or actually yesterday! It was a pack of 3 LED flashlights, each about 7 or 8 inches long, made of genuwine good ol solid plastic, and each one takes 2 AA batts! Man they are bright and cool! How much do you think I paid for them???
But wait, dont answer yet, I also got, in the same package, three LED headlamps that each take 1 AA batt apiece!!! Now how much do you think I paid for all these goodies??? BUT WAIT, dont answer yet, I also got all the batts to go with them!!! HA! Now I dont remember how much I paid!!! Jeeze Loueeze, oh yeah, it was 12 dollars!

They are pretty cool, I'll tell ya, pretty cool!!!! And if any of youse youtes know a thing or two about LED lights, you know they dont use much EEEEElectrical power, and wont drain the batts, and also last for a million years!!! Now how you gonna be????

Say goodnight gracie!! Goodnight Gracie!!!
I miss seeing George Burns and Gracie Allen on TV and hearing their voices on the radio, dont you???
How about Jimmy Durante??? Now there's a voice you would know with your eyes closed!!! I miss all the variety shows like Andy Williams, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Jack Benny and Bob Hope!!! The world sure is an empty place without those folks in it, dontcha think???

Well, they left a legacy and a void behind that cannot be replaced or filled with all the krap on every channel on TV! Hell, radio was better than The tv today!!!
Now radio sucks and tv is suckier!!!!

I can hear the crackling of the airwaves and white noise of yesteryear, before FM radio, over the one ear phone of my crystal radio!!! I listened to the lone ranger and a lot of other shows, as well as real music! Plus the farm to market reports! I was always interested in how the chickens and cows were selling!!! All this new technology has made mind numbed robots out of all of us! I been trying to break away from it for years before it strangles the living pea waddelly snot out of whats left of my pea brain!!!!

Ok, now I'm really freezing!!! "GO TO BED" a voice keeps saying!!! "I'm trying, but my fingers are stuck to the keeeeeeyyyyyssssss!!!!
Come on people now, smile on your brother, try to love one another right now...or at least get on the forum and tell me a story about the good old days, or the good new days!!!
"Remember friends, this show was brought to you by Kraft, a name you can trust, and Martha Whites all purpose flour, the best beginning for biscuits, and a special thanks to Wallys Western Auto at 43rd street between Oak Forest and Ella, for helping to sponsor this program! Now we will leave you with this thought, "Only God can make a tree"!!! God Bless you and keep you safe and warm, and Happy trails to you, until we meet again...This is Leonard Blush saying, so long friends...

"This is radio free Oak Forest, KWANN, signing off!

Getting warm - 19 at about noon and white snow falling gently. And a big traffic chaos - not so bad, because now folks are talking to each other.

Getting warm at noon - 19 o and white snow falling gentle down- and a big traffic chaos because of all this ice and snow. But its great because now people are talking to each other.

RIAS

(Radio Im Amerikanischen Sektor)

P.S. Most young Berliners used to listen to this station - latest hits from the States, also country- and other music.
Starting right after WW2 and broadcasting until the beginning of the 90th. Another station was AFN for all the GIs and their families but also for young Berlin (now not so young anymore looking into the mirror).
SFB - Sender freies Berlin - was another main non- com-station.
French and British allies had their Station too.

And all the fairy-tale stations from East-Berlin. Berliners grew up Multi- cultural and most people are able to speak at least one foreign language and all West-Berliners had English at school. All East-Berliners had Russian at school. I was not so lucky - thats why I had to take Russian at Waltrip and Ms. Lee was a good teacher.
Spanish with Mrs. Haley was a lot of fun too.
Thats probably the reason why my daughters are able to speak several languages.

Radio... I was thinking just the other day (I know, scary... me with a "think") about transistor radios. My granddaughter was messing with her IPOD and playing it way too loud. I wandered to a "few" days ago to ponder the "transistor radio". As I recall, I even had a cute leather case to protect it and make a fashion statement. Anyone (Beau) still have one in the "baggage room" or maybe even a crystal radio?

Another "radio" thought came to mind... KILT had a contest and the prize of a princess telephone (choice of pink or blue). I can't remember the contest. Probably "why I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLY need a princess telephone". Anyway my sister, Carroll, won the contest. Her phone was pink and got to be in her bedroom. The princess came with an extra long base cord AND and extra long curly receiver cord. Now if you pulled both the princess phone and the house black box phone allllllllll the way to the end of their respective tethers you could talk to two friends at once. Of course being girls we could talk a minute or two without saying much of anything important except to each other.

Well on this particular day I was doing the stretch and talk with the phones. My dad was needing to call the house, for some emergency situation had come up and he needed assistance. When the house phone was busy, he tried the princess. You guessed it he tried for a very long time, getting madder and madder as the seconds ticked by. I don't recall just how he got home, but "we" were still on the phones. Well I won't describe the scene as I am sure that your imagination will not distort the outcome at all. Oh the Precious Princess survived and the princess that had a whole year of FREE service was no longer in service.

I think teenagers have not changed so much, just the size and cost of the toys.

Yup, still got a old transistor radio, a motorola! It kinda plays, sort of, almost! takes one of those old square 9 mm batteries! No crystal radio though! wish I had my old one! Mounted it in a cigar box!!!
Did you know, that all those cigars that George Burns smoked, were made specially for him by El Producto????

Paige, the girls conversation, I'm sure was by far more intelligent than the guys!!! "whatchu dune" "nuttin, whatchu dune" "nuttin, whatchu wanna do" "idonno, whatchu wannado" "you gotta date tanite" "naaaaaah, howboutchu"
"naaaaah, thot I'd play hard to get" "yeah rite, thats prolly dune the girls a favor".....

And that conversation prolly took 30 minutes or more!!!!!

I remember a contest on KILT or KNUZ where they gave away a 1961 station wagon crammed full of hunting and fishing and camping gear! Man, I wanted to win that so bad! Dont remember what you had to do to win it, but obviously I didnt do it, cause I didnt win it!!!!

Goin out on patrol in the freezing snow...snodrifts prolly 10 ft deep, but must keep my appointed rounds...
Remember Snowdrift Shortening??? Me too!!!

Watching the installers leveling the kitchen floor. Of course it is going to be more complicated than the original estimate so we will have to wait until tomorrow to actually get the new laminate installed. No hot water f0r another night. We are using a little electric water boiler when we wash dishes and going over to my daughter's house for a bath. Yesterday I was at the gym so I was able to clean up there.

When we helped Ferrell's Aunt move a few years ago, I found a transistor radio with the leather case still in the original box.. never even used once! I might find it again in her "museum" She never threw anything away and has radios, tvs and record players that go way back.

Well, we are colder here in Grimes county than it has been for the last 20 yrs. I'm staying close to home, except to go out to work and if that becomes icey, well then, they can do without me! Got groceries today.

Yeah, Beau, the era that we watched (30's, 40's & 50's was, absolutely, the best. Orchestrated bands, big bands, tap dancing, etc. synchrosized dances, songs, and clothes. Romantic songs and words you could sing with, dances you could dream and dance with. I personally LOVED Andy Williams, The Lennon Sisters, Roy Orbison, Otis Redding, later, the Carpenters, (wish she hadn't died - beautiful voice). The mystic of the Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra and Paul Newmann. Everything was "bigger than life" back then and specials on TV were really special and talked about for days!

I get so tired of blood, guts, rot and stench of death shown daily on TV - if that is entertainment we've lost our standards. We have become mezmerized to shock and torture, over and over of who done it murders and sensationalization. This should be curtailed to news reporting, not television. We have become desensitized and reinact tragedies, etc.

We actually "lived" life back then, example: If I wanted to shop, I would go downtown, I took a bus, learned where to get off and get back on, where to shop and where to eat, that took the better part of a day, walked among all walks of life of people on the sidewalks, Woolworths, LC Cafeteria, Metropolitan and Majestic, Sakowitz and Foleys,no cell phones - so adventurous without having to check in - on my own and responsible for myself attitude, and I was always moving in "downtown Houston-nothing better. I could transport myself all over the Heights, and Oak Forest, Lake Houston, Jensen Drive, etc. without highways and traffic snarls.

Now we just go to work and our suburbia homes, sit and watch TV, over and over, day after day. I find myself watching a lot of Channel 8-PBS and old old colonist and British movies, where you could get a little learning and clean interest, as well as watching proper etiquette and enjoy the scenery and beauty.

Well enough.....Stay warm and continue to maintain your health and happiness all.

It´s midnight by now and couuulld. And very light snow. Since we´ve got no TV at home we had our own tele vision. On saturday we took traines around Berlin just going anywhere ore even somewhere looking out of the windows into beautiful white woods and icy lakes. Kind of good TV - nobody killed, no blood anyway, just nature and snow. And ducks. And an old tavern where we got a hot soup and a good old fashioned meal, German food, which is not so easy to get.

Writing on the laptop is so much easier and you can do it with ten fingers. And I can read all what I have written above and I don´t have to use my brains remembering what I have written.

We are still using two old transitor radios with batteries. One is a Braun radio. Braun was the best German manufacturer. But that was long ago.

Paige - is there anywhere a facebook school? At least I know how to get pictures on it.

It´s great to read and share all of your stories.

good night,

bjt

I still have my motorola transister radio! I always sat on the back yard patio with that thing stuck to my ear listening to KILT! ROCK AND ROLL!! Something's funny about that radio. I think I left batteries in it 'cause there's this brown rusty looking glob inside. Could this be toxic waste? Yikes!

Everyone keep warm out there! I think school should close until Monday. Some of these little ones leave home with just a little hoodie-jacket. GOOD GRIEF PARENTS!!! Maybe the parents/guardians will just let them stay home tomorrow. We'll see.

Hope everyone likes the birthday picture of Aunt Alva. She had a wonderful time on New Year's Eve.

Hugs to you all and remember we always leave the front porch light on! Hugs, DSNLBB

PS. Beau, when I say "Beau", Alva says "Who?" When I say Cooper, Alva says "Oh, that sweet dog that was with that young man!" Guess you know who rates around this house. Hi Diane!!

Hey aunt alva, this is cooper! Hi to you and lynn and kyle and aggie! cant wait for this bozo beauzeau to bring me back to your house and have some more bar be que! sorry about beauzeau dropping some on your new carpet, but he is such a clutz! I will let him have the computer now. bye Did you really call beauzeau a young man??? He is anything but!!!!

Hey how bout that cooper huh??? he's been taking typing classes!

it be tooooooo cooooooold to go anywhere! Just went to my 4th funeral today, and got another one to go to Saturday!!!

A Friend lost his 2nd daughter! First one to cancer, and robin to heart attack! Both in their early 50's!
Man o man, what a heartbreaker! Just should not be!!!

I know some in our class have lost children! No greater pain than that! My heart goes out to all for real and true!!!!!

While we were at forest lawn on antoine for Robins funeral, Diane saw a principal of one of her schools!
She was there making funeral arrangements for her husband, who died unexpectedly last night!

DW was really upset!!! Both joined HISD same time 32 years ago!!!

Gonna be a cold day Saturday for that one!!! heavy sigh!!!!

Bernd, my mom has a braun radio, and also a huge shelf radio made by Blaupunkt or Blauplunk! I was kind of hoping she would give it to me, but we will see!
It use to be a very good and expensive radio! Probably cant get it fixed or parts for it! Methinks it is a tube radio! Not sure though!!!!

A year or so ago, we bought our grandson Taylor a fender stratocaster guitar with a small 15 watt fender amp! He has been wanting a larger amp with a distortion and other noise maker footpedal for a while! Sooooo for christmas this year, we gave him my 200 watt Peavy guitar amp with special effects foot pedal that will produce about 2000 different sounds for the guitar!
He was surprised and very happy, suffice it to say!!!!

I dont play very much anymore, so it was time to let that one go! I would have given him my Fender Stratocaster, but it is a vintage 1962 model, and worth a considerable amount! Saw a 1959 for 37K at guitar whirld on westheimer! I wouldnt give 37K for all the guitars on earth, but thats just me! there are vintage guitars there for upwards of 50K! Now thats just crazy!

I might get another amp somewhere down the road! I was hoping that Robbie B and I could get together and jam a little! I first picked up the guitar at Sears on North shepherd, and taught myself to play "Ghost Riders in the Sky"! The guitars were on the first floor towards the back of the store, where they sold the candy and cashews and popcorn! They had guns and fishing gear, and boats and motors and tires and paint and everything right there! I would pick a guitar up, and play a few bars, and then some krazy saleswoman would take it out of my hands and tell me I wasnt allowed to play it!!!

"Why not" I would protest!!! Never got an answer, just a dirty look! But I persisted, and because of my perserverance, I am the Rock star I am today!!!
I really learned alot from Robbie B! He probably taught me more than anyone! Tried taking for real lessons, but they dont want to teach me what I want to know! they actually want me to start from the beginning!!! Can you believe that! How silly of them!!!! I dont have time to start from the beginning! Couldnt I just start towards the end???? You know, where I'm a big rock star????
apparently not!!!!

Well, guess I will sign off for now! Probably not sleep tonight! Slept last night, and had nightmares about snakes!!! UGH and YUK!!!! dont know where that came from, I dont watch those channels on the boob toob, just for that reason! If I see a bear, then one is gonna be chasing me in a nightmare!!!! A mind is a terrible thing!!!!

Oh yeah, I was gonna sign off, Ok bye

Useless Information

So the Texas Longhorns are playing for the BCS Championship tonight, but who knows where the breed came from? Well, I’ll tell you if you don’t already know:

Spain ‘colonized’ North America by dropping off mating pairs of horses and cattle along the Gulf Coast at inlets such as rivers and bays after Columbus’ first trip here in the late 15th century. I guess the longer horns evolved as they had to fend for themselves in a very hostile environment and the horses just got really wild, hence Wild Horse Desert in South Texas. I visited with a Blackfoot Indian a few years ago up in Montana and he said his ancestors traveled all the way to South Texas gathering ‘Spanish’ ponies to trade/barter for women/other as early as 16th century.

During the civil war, ranchers abandoned their cattle so that afterwards, the South Texas ranges were abounding with unbranded, wild livestock. After the civil war starting around 1870, the US government had promised food for the Indian reservations and rich city people in Chicago and New York wanted beef. No rails leading East for cattle transport existed South/West of Kansas so great herds of Longhorns up to 20,000 were gathered/trailed to the railheads and sold for $10-20/head. Do the math; pay 10-20 cowboys $1/day for three months and sell the ‘free’ herd for $200,000 to $400,000 which was a great deal of money back then.

The market only lasted about 10-15 years but in the mean time over 10,000,000 head of cattle and 1,000,000 horses were trailed from Texas to markets up North.

See, I told you it was useless information but at least Teddie now knows the origin of his longhorn cattle.

Stay warm and remember, temperature is relative – when I left Minneapolis on Tuesday the ambient was -9 F.

Beau Wann, Jr.

Wayne, thanks for the longhorn info! I didnt know either, and I was on numerous trail rides back in the 1800's! Still there as a fatter of mact!

Ok, now where did the horney toad come from and why?
is there a "long horney toad"?

I think it's something Rod Serling made up! I did have a horney toad as a youte! The "wild Bunch" my dad and his brothers put him in a bucket and gave him beer! Those idjits turned my horney toad into an alkie toad! I wonder if he went to AA meetings??? Did he use AAA to get to AA??? These and other questions probably wont be answered by me, cause I dont know!!!!

Been battening down the hatches! wind be blowin them all askew and askance! I dont like this kind of cold, not at all!!!! So, hows Al Gawhores global warming working out for you all??? Gets any warmer, and we gonna have to go jump in the cement pond!!!

Hey wayne, does -9 feel colder than 18??? Cold is cold!!!
did you all see that the mighty Mississippi river froze solid in Illinois??? Yeah, saw video of it! Friends, that is cold!!! Well, the wind and the cold just wore me out today, running all the errands and woiking around the house! So, guess I will repair to the sleep cubicle, where there are 4, count em 4 cats sleeping on the bed!
One on each corner! Both dogs have the couch, and I'm at the furshlerginer computer!

Hey Bernd, working on gettin that yellow bus so I can come pick you up!
You say you have no TV, well, you dont know how lucky you are! But you said also that you cant get german food in Germany???? We use to get good german food in New Braunfals, Tx!!! Havent been there in a million years, so dont know if they have any German restaurants still open! The Faust hotel was a good place to eat, they say the hotel was haunted and people reported seeing ghosts there! Me and my beloved stayed there in the 80s, and all I saw was plain ol people, no ghosts!!!

Also Krauses was a first rate German food and beer hall!!! Maybe we can send you some! Maybe we can get American Television to move to Germany or at least someplace in Europe!!!! Hell, you'd watch it one time, and send it back! I like your entertainment, Hayden concerts and others, and sitting in a cafe drinking coffee and eating streudel and watching it snow! You can get good streudel cant you???? Tell me you can!!!!

I saw where Great Britain extended happy hour till 7 am for all pubs, because why, I dont remember!!! Probably some stupid reason, like global warming!!!

Oh, hey wayne, they had a study that cost us taxpayers plenty, about cow flatulence! For people in San Leon, that would be cow farts!!! But I didnt want to say that on the forum, so disregard! they say that and pig stuff, and pet stuff is a major contributor to global warming!!!

Well, lets see, in their heyday, the buffalo herds numbered into the 20 or 40 millions, and you say the cattle driven to market numbered into 10 million!!!
Hmmm, why didnt we have global warming then? How many indians do you think there were in America back then???
Well, in my comprehensive and extensive study, I'd say there was somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 billion!!!

Thats what the so called experts do, guesstimate stuff!
Got on a cat haters website by accident, and the wisconsin legislature was seriously considering having open season on cats!!!! I kid you knot!!! They were going to let hunters just kill em off!!! Their reasoning???? They, they being some jerkbrain scientist wannabe, did a so called study, and said that feral cats killed 262 million songbirds a year alone, in wisconsin!
How you reckon he or she came up with that figure???

Wisconsin has never had that many birds period! Why???
because it gets cold as hell there, and the boids go south, or freeze their little fannys off!! Sad sight, a bird with a frozen fanny!!!!
The really sad part of all the stupid inane asinine studies, is that most people believe them! Follow the money if you want to know if something is for real and true! Find out who has what to gain!!!

Stupid jerkbrain media hasnt a clue what the truth is on anything, and doesnt care!!! They'll be sorry someday!!!

Speaking of killing off cats, Austrailia in its ever stupid approach to anything, was overrun by some plant, so they brought in a bunch of rabbits to eat the plant, only the rabbits did what good rabbits do, and that is multiply, rapidly! Well, they eventually got overpopulated, no really, yeah, really, and started eating plants that other critters needed, so now the other critters were suffering, so they imported cats to kill the rabbits, and the cats did what all good cats do, and that is multiply, and now there are too many cats, and they are eating all the small critters that other larger critters need to survive, so now they want to just start shooting the cats! Them people in austrailia are absolutely without a doubt the dumbest people on the planet! When you mess with mother nature, she gonna smack you silly!!!

The idiot moronic austrailians also not only outlawed all guns, but had them all cut up and destroyed, including any and all museum pieces!!! They said, "now we are all safer" same thing hitler said when he outlawed guns for private citizens!!! Oh contraire mon ami!!!!!
Violent crime went up 300 percent!!! Why??? Because the bad guy now knew that no one could defend themselves, so it is easy pickins!!! What a bunch of morons!!Now that people have no guns in austrailia, they started whacking each other with knives and swords! Guess what they have outlawed next??? You guessed it, knives and swords!

Next people will be smacking each other with bricks! then they will outlaw brick houses! How about rocks???
Cricket Bats???? Why hells bells, thats the ausie equivalent to bazeball!!! Where does it end??? Well, since they import one animal to get rid of another animal, maybe they ought to import mercenaries to get rid of the bad people!!! Then who would they import to get rid of the merc's????

Of course the moronic antigun crowd here wants to do the same thing!
Anyone know what the weapon of choice for the most prolific killer here is??? A gallon of gas and a match!
The copacabana fire back in the last century killed more than 2 or 3 hundred folks! Seems a disgruntled bus boy set the fire! Happened again in boston or baltimore or new york, one of them there towns!!!

Oh well, ignorance can be corrected, stupid is forever!!! Like the Duke said, "life is tough! It's especially tough when youre stupid"
I believe I was going to bed when my brain was hijacked by my brain!

Looking forward to Fudds, that is if I aint froze to death, or put on the most wanted list in austrailia!!!
Bring it on mates, and see what you get for your trouble! Well, those folks drink Fosters Lager out of an oil can! They were a hell of a bunch of good fighters in WWII though, plus the invaluable coast watchers! We wouldnt have faired as well in the pacific with out the coast watchers! Thanks mate!!!!

Well I can see by the old coo coo clock on the wall that it is half past something or other, so I will bid you adieu!!!
