Beau Wann, Jr.

Good Sunday evening! Least I hope it was good for everyone! TYpical Sunday for me and DW. Church and stuff and a lazy afternoon out of the heat! Had our usual 30 suspects at the little country church in the city.  Had a salad luncheon afterwards! YUK!!! Must be my taste buds, bud! Everything tasted like...terrible! Even the apple pie and cherry pie and chocolate fudge icecream sandwich didtn taste all that good! Yup, must be the taste buds...bud!!!!!  After lunch, we put together emergency relief kits for things like, hurricane disasters etc...The church goes to where ever there is relief needed, and hand the kits out! Oh, it's a small thing, and inexpensive items, but things we take for granted, like, washcloths, soap, tooth brush, comb, first aid supplies, etc...Whoa...just thought of something else needed in an emergency, Dog and cat food and supplies!  I'll give the folks that put this stuff together, a call and plant that Idear!!!!

You know, I have been toying with the idear of buying a fishing pole!!! Well, I dont have one, and I know every manly man is supposed to have one, So, Saturday, me and DW lit out early for breakfast, and then on our appointed rounds! First stop, after breakfast, Academy!!! Looked at alot of stuff there! It's hard to focus on just one thing, without perusing the rest of the store, isnt it!!!! Finally got over tto the fishing supplies, and thought it would be a rather easy task, picking out a fishing pole!!! Wrong, oh shinny head!!!!  It wouldnt have been so difficult, if a certain party, who will remain nameless, but her initials are Diane Wann, hadnt insisted on helping me choose a fitchin pole!!!

I wasnt really sure myownself, which rod to look at, or what to look at in a fitchin pole!!! I picked one up, and shook it, like I had seen others do! Dont know why I was suppose to shake it, but it looked like I knew what I was doing! I over heard several folks say, "check this action out", and "man, this rod is sweet"!!! SWEET??? Nah, I dont think so! Apple pie is sweet...even the "action" of apple pie, headin down my gullet...now thats sweet!!! I tried to listen to the other folks, and see what I was suppose to expect from my fitchin pole...other than dont break, and catch fitch!!!!! Didnt learn too much, so I figured to just look for one that was esthetically pleasing!!!??? What ever in the heck that means!!! They have blue ones black ones, orange ones, yellow ones, silver ones, and yes, PINK ONES, for my little sweety haley! She already has a pink one!  So now, I have to choose from all the different colors...and sizes, thickness and length...heavy sigh!!!

I finally decided to break rule number one of the "MAN CODE"...dont ask directions"...So I asked the first available store salesclerk..."how do I choose the right fitchin pole and reel"???? And their reply, "well whut do ya want er to do"???  First thing to come into my twisted mind and the first thing out of my mouth was, "well, I was thinking of teaching it to play the piano"...Did I strike a nerve??? Nah!!! He was looking at a rather shapely young lass also perusing the fitching equipment, and not even listening to me!  Here's his big chance to impress  the young lady, so he starts talking, or maybe he was panting, whatever, it was loudly..."well sir, if your going after great white shark, like I did earlier this summer, you'll want this baby"! "This Baby" was a HUGE white rod, about a hundred foot long, give or take 80 or 90 feet! It was almost big around as my arm! "Are you sure" says I??? "I'm just going after bass and perch and maybe a catfish or two" I state further!!!!

"Well, I cant help you with that small fish, I just deal in OFFSHORE, SHARKS, WHALES", he almosts shouts, and in the direction of the comely lass, that has now attracted more "sharks", and probably all in heat too! Of course none of US guys were ever like that...right???? So anyway, I say thank you and shuffle off down to the rods that you dont need a fork lift to pick up! I was doing pretty good, and had it narrowed down to about a half dozen give or take a dozen, when lo and behold the "little woman" walks up!!! "Whats with the crowd at the BIG ROD RACK", she says!!! "Oh, you know, boys just talkin fishin" says I!!!

"Well, have you found one yet" she says??? "No not yet, but I do have it narrowed down to three racks full" says I!!! "Oh this ones cute, honey look, its a Mickey Mouse fishing outfit" says my beloved!!!! "Oh look, here's a Pink Snoopy one"!!!! I knew from the moment she showed up, that this wasnt going to go as I had planned! Seems like each one she picked up was "just so cute and sweet"!!!! Now, I'm a sensitive guy, right, but I believe, here's where I went wrong when I said..."Look shugar" I said as nicely as possible, trying ever so hard not to trample on her feelings, "this rod and reel is for me, a manly man, Haley already has one, and so does Taylor, and we can sure buy you one too, but if you will allow me to pick out the rod and reel of my choosing..."  I get the Teacher Glare, "well, you dont have be a stinker about it. Just go ahead, and pick out your old stupid fishing rod, I dont care..." I was expecting that lower lip to come juttin out, and eyes well up with tears, but no, thank goodness, her attention was drawn to yet another fishing outfit, already packed in a case, with lures and all! "Hey" she says, "How about this one"????

I take it from her, and sure nuff, it looked ok, had a telescoping rod, and a baitcasting reel and all sorts of lures and hooks and stuff, already in it's own genuine plastic see through case!!! "Why shugar, I do believe I like this one  you picked out, got everything I need, and it's only 12.99"!!! Worth every penny no doubt!!! Made in the good ol U.S. of china!!!! So now I have my "Snoopy" fitchin rod and reel, and am ready to fitch, should any other body of water show up besides my cement pond!!!!

Speakin of water, Cole Creek sure been up and down over the course of a week or so! We had ten inches of rain, whenever that was. The water was sure moving on cole creek. probably a F9 on the "man that water sure is moving fast" scale! Last week, saw all the ducks, but this weekend, only saw about 4 or so! Of course, they could be hiding in the tall grass, you know how ducks are...you do know how ducks are dont you???? 'AFLAC"... Well, I;ll save that lecture for another time!

Burge, we are all wishing you good health...for sure!!! Someday, you'll make it down here! I am planning a motorcycle trip around Texas for the fall, when I get to Two states town, I'll buy you dinner, what do ya say!!! I want to stop at the harley dealer ship there and get a tshirt, and then move on to Paris Harley and so on! ride on up in the panhandle, then head back south and around the middle, to west Texas, maybe not all the way to ElPaso, been there, dont like it, but down through San Angelo and Garner St Park etc, lost maples, and drop in on Robbie B and take him out to dinner!!! Probably be in October! September is Dove hunting, and November and December is Deer Season, so probably October! Havent found anyone else that wants to go, so just might be me! Gonna buy a new camera, and take along my laptop, and chronicle my journey...Maybe it will be interesting...GOOD INTERESTING, I hope, and not bad interesting!!!!!

Ok, time to shut er down...

Keep the sun at your 6 and ride boldly ride...

Morning all. I hope you all had excellent weekends.

Burge I like your new picture but you've really changed. It must have been a hard winter in Almost Arkansas

DOD, with your latest foray into stimulating the economy it got me to thinking. Wasn't there a tackle shop on Heights Blvd. years ago? It was a tricky name like Heights Tackle Shop. Hadn't thought about that place in years. I also got to wondering why we generally use treble hooks for salt water fishing and I don't know that I've ever seen any explanation of that. I have read that a lot of sportsmen think that using a treble hooks is unsportsmanlike. Any thought on that from any readers? Your trip around Texas sounds like it will quite an experience. If you want to get some practice you can ride over to Candlelight Estates and buy me dinner. I'm always glad to help out a fellow Waltripian.

Jim have you heard anymore about your neighbors incident with the bomb left on her front porch?

Had an interesting experience with Liz on Friday. We went to the vet for another vaccinations. Seems that almost all of them require two doses. Anyway as we're coming out of the exam room there is a dog that's the mirror image of Liz, except it's a male. Turns out the owner had gotten him at a shelter that had rescued him from T.C. Jester. Since they're almost identical and seemed to know each other my guess is they are litter mates. I wonder how many pups some irresponsible person dumped along T. C. Jester on May 5th. Well I just hope that if there were others they made it to good homes also. Burge you were right about being careful with my cell phone. I caught her with the other day. Fortunately I discovered her latest find before she gave it a good chewing. Just  three or four tooth marks. I'm more selective in where I hook it up to charge it now.

Don't forget to come to Fudd's tomorrow night.  Good conversation with good friends.

See you waltripians tomorrow I hope,

Rich LH

I saw your neighbor's bomb incident on the world news HLN. It stated just as you did that it was a package that was delivered and that it blew up in the lady's face. That really is a little too close to home for me. I'm glad I got out of Houston 5+ years ago. Well I hope all of you who go to Fudd's tmo nite have a great time. I will miss everyone. Also have a great week.

Glenn Slades was the gun store on Gulf Freeway at Scott St.. Had the big showroom visible from the freeway with all kinds of mounted game. Bought my first deer rifle there in '67. Was a Rem. Model 700 BDL, $114.50. The ADL model was $108.50, and that was a big decision. I was still going to UofH at night and working then and money was tight. Put it in layaway on Friday night and we found out that Fran was pregnant with Lisa the following Monday. Always said that if I'd known we were pregnant I probably still wouldn't have a deer rifle. Slades and Holts, which later was bought by Grant Illseng I believe, had the gun business in Houston tied up at that time. Bill Carter had his little shooting range way out on Aldine Westfield, almost to Spring, and he had a little metal building and a few targets. I remember him working the counter and putting the money in a cigar box. He told me years later that a good day back then was when he couldn't see the bottom of the cigar box at the end of the day!

Sir Theodore, do you still have that rifle ? What caliber?

Heights Tackle House was on Heights Blvd and there was  also a Chadicks .I think  Chadicks was on Yale.Red Ortmans on W 11th was Hishers Home Supply before it was Ortmans and Waddells Colonial Shop before that.

It's a .270 and it has quite a few notches on it. I hunted it with open sights for several years then bought  a used 4x Leupold scope from a then brother- in- law for $20 and really thought I was hot stuff. I still have it but eventually went with a Weatherby in 7mm Mag when I started hunting the bigger bodied deer in South Texas and occasional elk in the mountains out west. Fran gave it to me for Christmas one year. A good redneck Christmas present.

Also Jimmy, I remember your extended families' Hilsher Furniture store. We actually still have a piece that came from there.

Lloyd, yall be careful and have a good trip.

hey lloyd,i hope the road is open all the way through.i came down through there coming back from tysons corner va.and some truck was backing back down a hill he couldnt climb and i had to detour;missed all that beautiful park like forest.enjoy.

all you guys have a good night at fudds.heres to the bdl.i shot gary's tricked out marine bdl in 308;a redfield 10x just like the corps used in its sniper program.very nice and easy.you could hit a  damn knat with it.

everybody be careful and dont pick up any packages or even pop bottles ,as a chemical-catalyst explosion occurs very violently.i saw a watch paper on this thing a couple of weeks ago.i guess its anarchists(couldnt possibly have been our good neighbors the muslim brotherhood).the description given was of two liter pop bottles with drano mixing with aluminum foil and causing a violent explosion.it was alerting people not to pick up bottles that seem to be just laying about.what a sorry thing to do to people.even though it could be worse;its still effective, cheap and organic,no need to import some fancy wmd's.

i hope everybody hits a learning curve;besides being fun,its contemperary with the use of the computer.its interesting to watch historical hedges playing out at a rate that is far excellerated and has allowed instant verification.a lot of spectulation and back-tracking going on and to avoid violence and sometimes even embarrasment, our polititions are playing fast and loose, even with their own policies and constituencies.i bet some of those super-genuises over at nasa are scratching their heads and wondering how they got in to the diplomatic business, with the boss on his mission to arab tv.now the silly children are denying it.its done, why back away from it? even though no harm was done, the instinct of the radical is deny-deny-dely;make false accusation and deflect the subject.no matter how polished and educated;"the drill",comes through.it appears to be overly defensive.

i would rather go to shangra-la than to mars anyway.i mean its either a dusty, hot, dead planet or the pleasure palace of khublai-khan.the treasury of nasa could be a tempting tool for foreign policy.smoke and mirrors.

GLENN SLADES...OF COURSE... I remember passing it on the gulf freeway a zillion times...man I sure am glad you guys got good rememberers. Remember Jack Roach ford??? at least thats the name I thought it was! It was on buffalo speedway, or waugh drive south of where greenway plaza is! He had all sorts of stuffed and mounted critters..bears and lions and tigers oh my...Bought my 78 thunderbird from him! I paid 5800 dollars for it new, and sold it 4 years later for 4000 dollars. Not too bad of depreciation on a car. Especially a later model Tbird.

We tried to ride on the blueridge parkway, or is there another one called skyway. Anyway, we got on it at Chattanooga and were headed to Fairfax Virginia and DC. we were on it for about 50 miles, and had to get off. It was making me sick going up and down left and right with all the curves. Top speed was maybe 20 or 25! If we had stayed on it, we probably would still be on it to this day, and we got on it in 91 or 92. It's beautiful for sure, but just impossible to traverse, for me anyhoo!

Speaking of sniper rifles...uncle ivan of the "wild bunch" had several 308s. One was a M1A (M14) that had a scope almost to the end of the barrel! It was a tack drivin son of a gun. Springfield Armory, later changed to Fulton Armory, had a star floating barrel etc...he had another 308, that had a flash suppressor, that looked like an enfield mark III. But the enfields were 303 cal. It was considerably shorter than the M1A1, and the thing that stood out the most, was the NOISE it made. It was louder than 06s and any other caliber.  I swear you could see the shock wave traveling through the trees when he fired it! I sure miss those days and those guys...

Hey Lloyd, you got your computer with you??? You know they have WIFI everywhere you go!!! My grandson bought that Martin guitar he was smitten with, from Fullers Vintage Guitar. They sure treated him right too. Taylor was grinning from ear to ear! You couldnt have scrubbed that smile off with ajax and a wire brush. I am so happy for him to have an instrument of the caliber of Martin! The sound quality will only improve with age and use!!!! We will get together and do some pickin and some grinnin...maybe we will turn pro...go on whirld tour...we probably could use some roadies if any of youse youtes wanna go on tour with us!  All of you could go...yeah, thats the ticket...yall could all sing too...wow gonna be fun...I'm excited...how bout you!!!!

Hey Lloyd, or anyone...Just got my GRIZZLY catalog today...WOW...tools galore. they even have guitar building kits and violin kits etc...Plans for just about anything. It is almost 700 pages, so It could take me awhile to  peruse it properly!

Seems I had more to add, but mind went blank...a mind is a terrible thing too wit...Looking forward to seeing youse tomorrow night! Might ride Pegasus. Mowed our yard, and the neighbors yard, they are on vaccination in florida. Couldnt get the tractor in their backyard, so had to use the walk behind. Man, damned near killed me having to MANUALLY mow their yard.

Grandaughter went to church camp today at Catsprings. She was so excited. DW bought a bible for her, made specifically for girls 11 to ? A lot of thought went in to this edition. It is purple-pink leatherette, with a butterfly on it. She picked it up at Barnes and Noble for about 30 dollars, but well worth it! I saved the box...its around here somewhere...ok, here it is...its the Girls Life application study bible...I dont know if they have one for boys, but this one is just perfect for that special little 10-11 year old girl in your life!!!

Ok, guess I will shut er down for now...

DOD, you are correct about Jack Roach Ford. It was on the corner of Buffalo Speedway and Bissonnet. They had quite an assortment of stuffed critters in the showroom. They later moved the dealership over on the Southwest Freeway frontage road. That location is now a home furnishings store (Noel). I'm not sure if Jack Roach Ford is still in business at another location or not.

See you folks at Fudd's tonight. Those of you who can't be there will be missed. those of you who just choose to stay away are missing a good time with long time and new friends!

Good Morrow mine waltripfuddians; Those that didnt make it last night, missed out. Someone won hundreds of millions of dollars in the lottery, and gave everyone at fudds meeting, an equal share! We will be buying Fudds now, and changing the name to...

I was late last night, about 2 hours or so! Thought I was 20 again, and took down a tree in my yard and got too hot and tired! When I started, I uttered those 5 killer words, "this shouldnt be too hard"! the minuet those words are uttered, look out for falling debris! It really wasnt too bad, except I couldnt find some tools, and remembered I took them to my country estate! But I put my "Ironworker" intellect into gear (isnt that an oxymoron)! I finally goterdone! Hooked the old ford truck bumper to the stump and dragged er out of the ground, along with a snake! Oh not a big one, but a snake none the less!!! He promptly commited suicide, thank you very much!

So, I was too hot and tired, and was not going to go to the one tuesday of the month meeting,  that I so look forward too!!! My beloved kept telling me, "Go, you know it always makes you feel better when you do", "Oh, and ride your bike, then you will feel doubly good"! SHE WAS RIGHT!!! I always come away grinning and with a good feeling inside! It was a small crowd, even so, I didnt get to talk to everyone! Jimvette, and ken, sorry,  I was heading your way, when I got waylayed by others! I did wave at you though! It is such a great class of people...thank you!!!! I will be late for our meeting in August, I have enrolled Cooper in a service dog class, and the last class is on that tuesday, but overwith at 7:30! Yup, ol Coop is headin off to school again! Gonna make a Phi beta doggy out of him yet! Well, he's not gonna be a bomb sniffin dog, unless they can bring it to the couch for him to sniff!

That heat, sure does sap the strength out of you! Was very sluggish walking the boys late last night and this morning! How come I'm not 20, still??? Man I sure wouldnt want to go back and do it all over again!

there are 5 cats and two dogs surrounding me at the moment, the good news is they are all asleep!!!

Ok, gotta go...so I will leave you with this tidbit of information...I dont know which spice is the most expensive, per pound, but I was perusing Penzeys Spices Shop, in the heights, and ran across SAFFRON!!! Cant recollect if I have ever had saffron, but I always thought it was the color yellow! The spice saffron, is red and not yellow! Do youse youtes know how much it costs??????? I didnt think so!!! But hang on, cause I'm gonna enlighten you...It is 81.99 dollars a quarter ounce!!!!!!!!!!! I rounded it off to 82 dollars like I was showed in the JETHRO BEAUDINE SCHOOL OF CYPHERIN AND DOUBLE NAUGHT SPY AND BRAIN SURGERY SCHOOL, AND THat comes out to 5,248.00 dollars a pound!! Now, I did all the cypherin in my head, which took me awhile, and promptly gave me a headache! Had to go down to Carter And Cooleys and have myself a Liverwurst sammich and a big orange drink!!!

I smelled the saffron, and it sorta smells like...stuff...not something I'd want to put on anything I would put in my gullet.

Good morning Waltripians, missed you folks that weren't there. I think Brad Seals would get the prize for coming the furthest (from Austin). It was probably worth his effort for his share of the winnings that Beau mentioned. If I overlooked someone who came further speak up.

DOD, is your plan to buy all the Fudd locations or just that one on the NW Frwy? I'm proud that Coop is pursuing his education. What about CJ is he back on the agenda for basic training? You are correct that saffron turns food a golden yellow. The main reason it is so expensive is those little red gizmos you saw are a part of the saffron crocus flower. The stigma me thinks. Anyway each flower only has 3 or 4 of those. They are very delicate and must be hand picked. It is a very nice spice to use, very aromatic. It's sort of in the same category as truffles. A great ingredient but I'm not sure they're worth what you have to pay to get them. I'm curious, did you ride boldly coming and going last night?

For those of you who aren't aware the Class of '65 Reunion is scheduled for Sept. 10th & 11th. Go to the website for details. Shazam that's not too  many days away is it?

Keep on dancing,

Kay Watters '65 (Greene)

I sure was unhappy to miss Fudd's last night.  Was planning on going, but alas, started the morning painting, walking and moved on to pulling the dryer (just quit working) out and cleaning behind it. About an hour later? noticed extreme pain in right lower back, sharp pain at that, I am almost totally immobilized, after two heat applications and now wearing a workman's back brace for support.  If this won't clean up by tomorrow will go to Doc.

I know how you feel Beau....when someone can figure out how to give us back 20 years, I will stand in line...LOL.  Wouldn't that just make the anti-babyboomers cringe?  Alice....we ain't 20 anymore!  Hope everyone had the usual fun, nonetheless.

07/14/10 04:04 PM #2896

Beau Wann, Jr.

Hey Kay??? Sorry about your back. You need to quit that sort of thing. Good positive thinking. Just say to yourself, "I am positive I will not have anymore pain ever again"...yeah, I know, in my positive thinking, it positively didnt work for me either! hADNT  heard from you in a while. You want my advice about buying a dryer??? Next one I get will be the least expensive, least complicated one they make! Just need the "on/off" button, "hot/warm/fluff, and a timer"! Ive stated before, we made the mistake of buying the HE kind, the upright frontloading pair, with all the lights! Makes it look like the mother ship with all the lights blinking!!! They dont work anybetter than the cheaper models. The washer is suppose to use less water...big whoop! It uses more electricity because it runs longer, and we have to use the 2nd rinse to get all the soap out of the clothes, so there goes the "uses less water bull s***. Sometimes more expensive doesnt mean more better, just more expensive!!!! and "sucker"!!!!!!!

Have you put together any of the "rice socks" I mentioned way long time ago??? Just go to Kroger or Brookshire brothers and buy the no name 10 pound bag of white rice, and get some tube socks, and put one sock inside another , and then fill em up with rice and tie off the end VERY GOOD, chunk em in the microwave for 2 minutes to 3 minutes, and voila, you have a non lethal heating pad! you dont have to worry if you turned off the heating pad ever again! They stay warm for a long time too! Smells good, but it always makes me hungry! Oh, and this is real important...dont leave em out where the dogs can get to them, cause we are still vacuuming up rice from when Coop and Jack played tug o war with one of ours!

There is another cure for pain...came from my dads side of the family...create another pain of equal intensity, and the two pains will cancel each other out...so far, it hasnt worked for me yet!!! But I'm sure there is something in there for the learning...

Hey RichLH I think maybe after ol Phi Beta cooper goes to service/therapy dog school, I will enroll John Boy into "Beginning obedience" school! I wonder if jethro beaudine had a school for dogs!!! Ellie may had one for critters methinks! I think Donna Douglas became a minister...or maybe that was the little girl on fathers Knows best...what was her name...Erin something...What was Buds name??? I saw him in a couple of other things, but not many!!! Lauren Chapin??? Hmmm A mind is a terrible think...

I like the name Jethro...Leroy...and Otis. We have a cat in the hood named Leroy!!! Well, he isnt our cat, but a neighbors cat! Were it mine, I wouldnt let it outside...

HEY HEY HEY...I MET A WALTRIP GRAD CLASS OF 66, LINDA WARD!!! I MET HER AT CAROLYN TOMPSONS ANTIQUE CENTER THERE UNDER THE WEST LOOP AT THE KATY FREEWAY. She still lives in Garden Oaks. I told her about Fudds...anyone remember Linda Ward???? I found her picture in the 65 yearbook. I dont know why I have a 65, but I do!!! She was a junior in 65! Well, just wonderin...

Did you knoe that Otis elevator was the first elevator with a safety brake??? Back in the 19th century too...

ok, the little woman is home, got to go...

keep dancing? i fell out a couple of months ago.i couldnt keep still for the first three months,' reggai  mon'

now its drag my butt here and there and wish.mabe another month.the good side is that ive been able to read a lot more, finished up the greeks, the persians, india, china and japan.looking into the writing of mao tze tung and voltaire.finished the book on hirohito and the making of modern japan.here they come again the emperior gods themownselves.you know we already had our own revolution, better than the bloody french revolution, smarter than the russian revolution and an infant to the chinese revolution.after five thousand yers of dynastic rule, they needed a revolution, four hundred  million people in the 1920s,mostly peasants.now its 1.5 billion people, yeah china needed a revolution and the sad thing is that in the begining of his carrer mao had two points for his revolution:philosphy and ethics.the bolchevics with their agent maring(sneveliev) gained the communist international the lead and being the head of the southeast division of the comintern, persuaded mao to follow linin.its strange how the russian just cant extricate himself from the sythian barbarian deep in his nature.

we have had our revolution and our dirty civil war; at the winding down of the vietnam war we had a presedent who actually broke 50 years of stalemate with china by going to see mao.it was r.n.;i cant even repeat his name,he has become so vilified.it was probably the most progressive move made by an american president but because he got caught in political spying,he was made to fall on his own sword.we had a great revolution;all this other stuff is just  noise.

hey teddie, you said you enjoyed the picture of the little pup.i kept him and the two adults.i really hated to part with this little panda but she was the last i gave away.three is all i can handle. i really appreciate dogs in my life,i have more time to enjoy their simple world;which seems to be the kind of symbionic bond that is favorable to mankind.

Burge, I really believe that dogs are one of God's special gifts to mankind, and probably vice versa. They lower our blood pressure, make us smile, and all while demonstrating the meaning of unconditional love. Not a bad deal.

Have a good weekend everybody, I'm going fishing.

Ted and Burge I would agree with your thoughts about dogs. I pretty much like all animals though. The ones I question the most are the human variety. I'm sure enjoying my new pup. She is so smart I just marvel at her. The other day I was cleaning up some dishes at the sink and she was trying to nuzzle into the trash can under it. I reached down and gave her ear a couple of gentle tugs and told her to stop. She looked up at me. Grabbed the hem of my shorts, gave a couple of tugs and trotted off. I guess I was told.

Burge sounds like to me you've improved your intellect enough for a while. Switch your reading material to lighter stuff for a while. The summer would be a great time to read or re-read Travels With Charley by John Steinbeck. Another good humorous book is a Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson.

Just a comment on R.N. and our other pres who got his tail in a crack B.C. The same thing got both of them in the soup. It was arrogance. Their transgressions were pretty minor in the full spectrum of things.  What got both of them was using the power of their office to obstruct justice. Both of them would have skated if at the very start they had just said "I did it. I'm sorry". In my opinion it would have gone away. There wouldn't be any blood in the water to attract the media sharks.

On a lighter note, are you folks being attacked when you go out of your homes? My reference is to mosquitoes. They are raging around my house! Insect repellent is a necessity if you're staying outside. Has anyone tried the new things Off has out that you just clip on your belt? if they work it would sure be more convenient than have to virtually bathe in repellent. Thinking back to our youth, do you remember 6-12 insect repellent? I'm, not sure how many bottles of that stuff we went through but it was a bunch. Someone told me the other day that you can use Chamomile tea as a repellent if you don't like the chemical variety. I haven't tried it yet.

Ted, I hope you have good luck fishing. Just remember don't put any bait on the hook. If you do you might catch something. Then you have to clean it , etc.

Have a good weekend all!

and keep on dancing,

Rich LH

Hello gang,

Sorry I missed last Tuesday at Fudd's but,

I am still alive and well but simply wanted to post a memorium to my uncle, Clarence Hiller, who was killed in WWII 67 years ago over the North Sea on this VERY DAY AND DATE of SATURDAY July 17th 1943 on a B-17 raid to the submarine pens in Hamburg, Germany. Through my research I have discovered that his plane was the ONLY ONE lost from his Bomb Group (the 94th) on that day and the ONLY one of TWO  B17's lost from the entire 8th Air Force located in all of England.  His plane and crew also had the dubious distinction of being the VERY FIRST plane to be lost from his Bomb Group with absolutely no traces ever found or recovered on their third mission.  Luckily, I also found out the German Luftwaffe fighter pilot's name who shot his  plane down was one Erwin Claussen who was himself KIA later while attacking other B-17's.

Bless his soul plus all the others, before and after, who have given the ultimate sacrifice to our freedom.

DougrR, may our esteemed president be so reverent.
