Here is a picture of Cooper before he became our dog! He is with Lisa, head of the Lab rescue league! That is her "duce and a half" behind her! She purchased it from a museum that was cleaning out unwanted items! My kind of woman for sure!!!! She also has taken on the task of being the K9 dog historian! When she rescued Coop from the pound, he was hours away from being put down, for the convenience of society! Can you imagine euthenizing such a magnificent creature just because he didnt have a home?????????????????? I am so glad I was visiting that park on that day! I was on my Motorcycle, so I couldnt take him home that day, plus we had to fill out paper work and stuff! They had to inspect our home, and make sure we were suitable for him! I guess we were!

Hey, any of youse Houston historians, Jim, Scotty et al...I was driving down 12th street from old hempstead highway towards Ella. On the right, about half way between the two, is a building that looks out of place. Looks like a federal reserve bldg with windows. It is surrounded by an iron fence, topped with concertina wire, that wasnt an after thought!!! The reason it looks out of place, is that is more of an industrial area!   Anyone know who it is??? No sign or anything, plus it has electronical gates...Just wondering...dont recall seeing it before, or maybe I just wasnt paying attention...probably the latter!!!!

12 st was where lacks warehouse was and southern sales, the fore runner to Harbor Freight and Northern tools!!!! My dad and I would go on saturdays and might just come away with a new fishing reel, or a wrench or altimeter...never know when you might need to know how high your are!!!

lots of luck to you and yourn

Me at the arms dealers looking over my next purchase! No such think as too much fire power.

Richard, forget about Triple A on Airline. It has gotten terrible. Fran's mom always liked it and it used to be so good but that is past tense. Barbeque Inn at Yale and Crosstimbers still excellent and we're there almost every  Tuesday at noon with Fran's mom.

Great photos indeed!!! That Jackie is just a whiz at everything!!!

How about a bit of interesting trivia for all you gun nuts out there, Of which I am one...

did youse know that the predecessor to the venerable and timeless classic, The Colt Model 1911 45 ACP was an actual 1910 model designed and made by Mr John Moses Browing hisownself???

there were a purported only 12 made, and possibly a 13th and 14th one, of which the latter two have not been brought forth!  It all started before 1905 with an experimental cartridge known as the 45 experimental cartridge, later the 45 ACP, which was the 1905, then a model of 1907, then the 1910, and finally the Model 1911!!! The 1910 had two guns with the serial number 2; three guns had the serial number 6 and two with the number 8 and one only of 1,3.7 and 12!!! The model 1910 with the serial number 2 that I saw was documented to be John Brownings personal gun! It is worth in excess of a million dollars...I wonder if they would take a check!!!!

Just thought I'd share that bit of interesting information! Give you something to talk about around the water cooler tomorrow!

beau is the cat wrangler;he may not be able to see into the future but he sure has a way with critters.

sorry i wasnt able to find anything on a govt program to see the future;the only one i hear anything about is the remote-viewing program.there wasnt much there to see.i have had one solid premonition in my lifetime but it was too transitorty to act upon;more than just a feeling and not de ja vu but similar.we are not supposed to see the future.its not that we are stupid, its "out there" it just escapes our perception.the remote viewing project experimented with the perception-altering 'drugs' before they determined that an emperical protocol was the most successful but this was for viewing extant targets.

Sir Theodore you are correct. The Bar-B-Que Inn is still excellent. For you folks that have been pondering time travel. . .just stop by the the BBQ Inn. . . you're in 1956 again Hon. As a matter of fact I took my sister and a friend to dinner there Saturday night. It was Becky's birthday. My baby sister turned 60! Yikes she's getting old, while I remain 33. I overheard a waitress telling a customer that fried shrimp is their #1 seller followed by chicken friend steak. I actually had bar-b-que, some very tender, tasty ribs. The bar-b-qued chicken is excellent as well as the fried catfish. A friend tells me their hamburgers are really good but I've never tried one.  The coconut cream pie is outstanding. I understand they get them from Dede's Pie shop if you're wanting to get one. Another stop for you time travelers is Doyle's. Still a great place to eat. They serve a great black angus burger. I like the burger and it's helps my self disciplin. No fries . . . they don't have them! I wonder if they still give away poboys to kids that hit homeruns at ODC? I never got one. In those days no one had figured out that I was nearsighted. Didn't get glasses until the 6th grade. I'm lucky I didn't get killed. Rob Wallis always used to have a drawer full of them I think. We could have a time travel dinner, eat dinner at Doyle's and drive over to BBQI and have dessert and coffee.

Scotty our thoughts and prayers to Lola and you. Keep us posted and let us know if we can assist any way.

Beau be careful with your brush burning. Last year I had the opportunity to meet Jim Cathey the president of Chik-fil-A. He told a pretty grim tale of how he nearly roasted himself burning brush at his country place and all the recovery time in a burn ward. A very interesting and apparently nice guy though. He is a real strong Christian. I think all their store managers have to sign a faith statement before being hired. Also all their stores are closed on Sunday. Kind of rare these days.

Keep on dancing,

Rich

Good afternoon Waltripians. Here is the long awaited picture of Liz. This was taken last week so she has grown some. I'm trying to get  a better picture for you but she is very quick so getting a good one is tricky!    I'm sure it can't be operator error.

Thanks for the pic of Liz the Lovely!  She is certainly a cuties and will give you many good years of service and love.

Thanks, Cherry for letting us all know of Richard's circumstance, and prayers and good wishes will go out to our fellow Waltripian!

Fine specimine of a K9 kritter rich!!! fine specimine!!! Barbeque inn is by far one of the best eateries around! methinks they have been around since the early 40s! Jimmie Lee and Charles would know! If you get a salad, try the thousand island dressing, they make it there!!!! I cant have the lettuce they serve, so I just have to remember how good it tasted when I could!!!

What can I say...Cat wrangler extrodinaire, kay, cat wrangler extrodinaire...

Me and kollege boy Koop, gettin ready to go to klass! He has gotten worse at home since skool!!! He freezes when we need to get him from one room to another, or out the door, or in the door! I swear, he is a puzzlement...if I put the leash on him, he well move about, almost freely, as long as I am on the other end!!! Maybe he's seeing ghosts...who knows, and he aint saying!!! I joke about him, but he really worries me, my big special ed buddy!!! What could be causing this??? He never gets anything but praise! I quit watching the news, caused me to yell at the TV...He didnt like that either, so I dont watch it anymore...

I pulled out one of his favorite treats, a big soup bone with lots o meat on it, and he wouldnot come to me. Of course, he almost never came to me when I offered him a treat! He just sits down, wherever he is, and licks his chops, and squirms, but he will not move!!! Just kills my soul to think he might have been mistreated before we got him!!! I just hope he feels the love we have for him!!!

Ok, dont want to be late for class...stbdod

Good evening my waltripians,

Me and coop just back from class! We were the only ones there tonight, so he got extra special one on one attention!! Tula and I worked very hard with him, and even ran over by 30 minutes! She is a good instructor!!! She seems to think he had been abused as a puppy...cannot fathom that...

Rich, you can start lizabeth at 10 weeks of age at the doggie obedience school...They are never too young or too old!!! I am adding a picture of Tula with coop, with tulas permission..

You did not say whether or not you got Coop's permission.  I have to say his companion in this picture is a darn sight better looking than the old man we saw with Coop earlier!

Richard Meek '65

B. diddy it sounds like to me that Coop suffered abuse at some point in his life. My understanding is they're just like humans as far as recovery etc. goes. Just keep loving him and treating him well and he'll probably get better. My dog, Krug, that passed on in Nov. was rescued. The lady that did, found him living under a tree in a pasture. When he started having back problems the x-rays revealed that he had 26 shotgun pellets in him. That's when I understood why it had taken a while to get his confidence. He had a hard life before he came to live on Carleen Rd. I figure he also must have been abused by kids on bicycles because he would really get agitated when he saw any kids on bikes. So just hang in there with  Cooper. Krug ws part Lab and that personality overcame his abuse.

Thanks for the compliments on Liz. She is a delight but also a handful. Man is she fiesty! Send me the information on your obedience school. I need something else to do. Are you anymore obedient since you've been attending with Coop? If you're yelling at the TV maybe DW should put a shock collar on you. That would probably put an end to that. Also whatever county your estate is in. . don't set fire to it, ok?

Seems we're unanimous on BBQI. I am a total fan but I think their beans and potato salad could use a little work. They're not bad just kind of non descript. But that may just be me. . .

Everyone just get out and enjoy this beautiful day we're having.

oh yeah, keep on dancing,

Rich the LH

05/20/10 10:53 AM #2668

Beau Wann, Jr.

Jim, I did get permission from coop, but only after I signed an affidavit awarding any and all royalties to his lordship!!! Fine with me!!!

Wow, RichLH, Krug sounds like a great addition to any family and that he finally got the care and love he needed...just cannot fathom animal abuse...Kudos to you for taking him in and showing him that SOME humans are good...not all...

You can go up to petsmart on 290 on the other side of stinkinmart and sign up there! Cost 109 dollars american...Coop go his for 94  caause I am soooooo cute!!! Yeah, they love me there!!! You dont reckon it's because I spend billions there do you????? Hmmmmm...

BBQI is good, and I agree with you on the beans and tater salad! Nothing to write home about...Some places the tater Salad is too tart, not enough onion, too runny etc etc! Of course I suspect the beanss are the most overlooked, cause most folks njust open a can and dump em in a pot, and expect them to taste good, or just be...beans...Carry a bottle of Franks Hot Sauce with you, thatll spice em up!!!!

Ok, on my second load o laundry...OH, IN MY OPINION, THE FRONT LOADING HE MACHINES ARE SO OVER RATED, IT IS A DOWN RIGHT LIE THAT THEY ARE BETTER AND MORE EFFECIENT THAN TOP LOADERS...WE HAVE ONE, AND IT IS WORTHLESS...HOW CAN IT BE MORE EFFECIENT AND BETTER, WHEN YOU HAVE TO DO 3, COUNT EM 3 RINSES, JUST TO GET THE SPOON FUL OF SOAP OUT OF THE CLOTHES????? HMMMMM MR MAYTAG AND KENMORE???????? When this one breaks again, I am going to set it out for heavy trash, and buy the cheapest top loader out there...just ON/OFF; HOT/COLD is all the settings you need...PERIOD...Most of the things touted today as green, or great for the environment, is just crap...they just want to get more of your money...If a person puts just a little thought and common sense into things, you can do a great service to the environment...like the oil spill...several tons of hay, coastal bermuda..straw etc will clean it right up...saw a demonstration on that, AND IT WORKS TOO...country boys been using that method for centuries...

lots a luck to you and yourn...stbdod

DOD, I forgot to mention your picture of you and your next weapon purchase. Also your comment about never enough firepower made me think of a quote from Napoleon. "God is on the side of the big battalions". And a quote from Voltaire, "God is not on the side of the big battalions but on the side that shoots best". So I guess the best plan is to get yourself a big battalion that shoots well.

Just a thought....I was washing dishes last night, and forgot that I had my timex watch (water resistant) on, still ticking....they sure knew how to make an economical reliable product that would service you well - 7 yrs. now.  Think we will ever have an America that strong and reasonable again?

Well, have a good weekend, all.  Beau, watch adding that 13th cat, he could break the tree.

Scotty, you and lola hang in there, prayers for you and Richard Brimberry.

Dawn patrol...Me and coop and catahoula jack spied life back to normal on cole creek! Mama duck and 9 babies sailing along, Mr and Mrs Wood duck gliding on calm waters together...flawrs bloomin...same ol smells...exotic calls of the Cardinal, and woodpecker...hawks soaring...wish we had some owls here in the hood...missed church this moring! Darling Haley came to stay with us for the weekend! Played cards and dominoes with her and DW and Lucy, the girl next door, with cats jumping on the table and dogs waggin tails at our feet!!! I slept with cooper on the couch, to give Haley my side of the bed...THERE AINT NO SLEEPIN WITH COOPER!!!! I am worn out, didnt get more than 20 minutes of sleep at any one time all night! Duh, whats new with that???

Well, It's just that I was fighting him all night long! Shoulda just got up and cleaned house!!!

I have to make this short because the "java script and other non allowable attributes" will just make this disappear! sorry it's so boring...hope all are fairing well...

Mornin' all. Hate to be a nitpicker but according to my calendar, Memorial Day is May 31st. Nothing wrong with saluting more than once all who served.

One of my more interesting sights in Washington DC took place at a War Memorial. My wife and I were being treated to a night tour of the monuments and memorials by a friend of mine who was in the Reagan Administration. If you've never done a night tour take one it puts a whole different look on things. On with the story. It was a full moon and my friend & wife show up in a limo. We're driving around Washington with champagne and strawberries just having a grand time. Arlington National Cemetery is just startling with a full moon lighting all those marble headstones. Anyway we wind up at the Iwo Jima Memorial where you get a grand view of the Washington Mall. So I'm looking at the surrounding buildings and I notice a high rise apartment and on the 3rd or 4th floor there is an apartment with either a glass wall or several  patio doors with all the lights on. At first I thought I was seeing things but my group members confirmed we were looking at a party where everyone (to Use DOD's term) was buck nekid. Of all the times to not have a telephoto lens. Washington is an educational place.

I hope everyone had a marvelous weekend. It was pretty warm but the morning and evenings were delightful.

Keep on dancing,

Rich
