TIME TRAVEL????
Methinks it's a viable carrier for molecular teletransportation!!! Why just this very drippy morn, me and coop did us a little time travel out on patrol!!! Well, with coop, I'm not perzactly shure just where he is in time! Mostly the lights on, but nobody's home!!! Now I love him no matter what, but that ol boy...
Me and coop traversed down the cement path early, and all the squirrels were busy looking for their nuts...that they had burried...acorns, ok??? anyway the squirrels were scurring to and fro, the boids were hippity hoppin and chirpin looking for the early woim!!! Sawr some honey bees on the oderiferous gardenias and other flawrs! The smell of rain in the air...Train whistle in the distance...I'm still looking through the same eyes and hearing through the same ears and sniffing the sweet smells through the same nose as when I was a boy, some 60 years ago...Time Travel???? maybe so!!!
Waters in Cole Crick, pushing white caps, probably a F7 on the, "man that water sure is moving fast", white water scale!!!! Ducks, hopefully, found a safe port in the storm...coots playing U-boat commander...Mr and Mrs Coopers Hawk, perched on the high wires, drying their wings...mourning doves hootin from one end of the "hundred acre wood" to the other!!!
Time travel...certainly seems possible, that is if you dont fight it!!! How many streams and rivers and lakes have we all crossed...fished in...swam in...we've all crossed many a bridge over rivers and streams...and troubled waters, to borrow a phrase!!! I remember the first time I crossed, "ol man river" hisownself (the mighty mississippi)! that was sometime back in 85 methinks! DW and the boys and I were on our way to washington, DC for our first vacation as a family...yea!!!
I had read so much about the Mississippi river, Tom Sawyer, Penrod and Sam, Huckleberry Finn...and all their exploits!!! The closest I ever got to "ol man river" when I was a wee lad, was visiting my cousins in DuVals Bluff, Arkansas, just a few miles shy! Oh, I dont know how many miles it was, but we were east of Little Rock by 60 miles or so! The White river flows through DuValls bluff, (I dont remember if it's DuVall, or DeVall, no matter) , and I was so excited about going to my cousins, because I was finally going to visit the River of my dad and uncles and granddads youth!!! I was disappointed though, cause my dumb ol cousins didnt want to go fishing or canoeing!!! Plus, my mom told me to "stay away from the river"! Parents sure have a way of killingg dreams, dont they!!! Or so I thought At the time!!!
When DW and I approached the big bridge crossing over the Mississippi, going from Arkansas to Tennesee, I was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs! I was tingling!!! Somehow, I thought there was something magical about THE RIVER, of my adventure books!!! We crossed, and I was still the same, but still, I FINALLY CROSSED OVER!!! Coming back, was kinda ho hum, me bein an expert now at crossing THE RIVER!!! Instead of going straight back to texas, we headed up through either Little rock or Hot Springs, up hwy 7 I think! We wound up at Spider Creek resort, some cabins on the side of a mountain, that trailed off to the WHITE RIVER!!! The White river was the last undammed river in the country, a distinction it nolonger has! dont know how many dams are on it, but the closest one to where we were, created Beaver Lake.
Anyway, me and DW and the boys, got us a cabin for a couple of nights and got to fish the river of my dreams! As a boy, I had heard so much about the White River from my Dad and Uncles and grandparents! How they all fished it and pulled trout out of it big as pike, and for supper too!!! Sometimes, they used a rather dubious method of fishing...dynamite...But, back in the 20s and 30s folks were a might poor, and any method used to put food on the table, was a goodun!!! There's another river called the Buffalo river! My grandfathers told me that fish was so plentiful, they would spear them from the bank of the river!!! WOW...my boyish eyes and face would light up when I heard that, I'll bet I was a sight!!!
Me and DW and the boys walked down to the White river, rods and zebco bait casting reels in our hands!!! they were small bass rods, but heck, them ol rainbow trout dont mind what you catch em with...but I can tell you this, if they aint hungry, they aint biting!!! We use corn and salmon eggs for bait...We caught about a 8 or 10 both days, whatever the limit was for 4 people!!! We cooked them up both nights, and they were everything I thought they would be and more! We just had salt and pepper and butter to season them with, but they tasted as good as the best candy ever laid to tastebud!!! I finally got to fish in the river where my dad and his brothers and their dad fished! And here I was fishing with my beloved and my sons...what a memory!!!
Time travel...I do it everyday...Me and Coop and John Boy, pilgrim souls, walking the many fields and meadows where our hearts long to be...to rest...to dream...at peace...
