Mr. Funny, Mr. beaufunny is back!   Laughed til my sides hurt this morning.

Well, I remember Bailey's because I knew the Baileys.....aka Ricky Bailey, handsome fella, now lives north of houston.

My science teacher, a young new teacher from a small town in Illinois took the High School students to The Museum of Natural Science in HOUSTON yesterday.....He was amazed at the largeness of the city, all the noise and all the busyness of traffic and such.  Thinks he will stay away from it as much as possible, can't see why anyone would want to live there....hee, hee.  Of course, he just doesn't have the memories we have, does he?  They only had time to all see the IMAX before heading back to little Richards, TX.

I'm still watching out for and haven't seen my first snake yet.  I usually come across them in my path when I'm walking now.  I didn't think snakes were out at night, thought they slept too.  However, I was told that they are, and shortly after that, while walking around the house at night, came across a copperhead, and I've lost my naive ignorance .  The Lord has surely protected me in my ignorance, as I regularly walked through small creeks, tall grasses and 50 ac. of woods. when I moved out here and have never been bitten.

So much for Chit-chat and back to work.

Beau, you were talking about the vegetable stands on Crosstimbers.  There was also one on 34th between Mangum and Hempstead.  The people grew the vegetables there on the property and had a roadside stand.  That location was so "out in the country", you may not have made it out that far?

Where did you take Coop for his "training"?  We tried a training curriculum with our current Yorkie with out a lot of success.  Most of the training seemed to be directed at the "owner" and that may have been our problem.  "Millie" seemed to be the social gadfly and she could not stop talking in class and being a disruptive influence.  Most of the training sessions were spent in detention.  At the end of the paid for sessions, the school gave her a "social" promotion.  I think it was awarded primarily to sell us a slot in the next training curriculum.  She certainly did not earn it.  We will probably have to try first grade again at a different learning location.

Good mornin' to you all. King Richard here. Beau, it's the responsibility of the tenants to maintain the property so I suggest you go to it. Actually I'm thinking of renouncing my throne since I haven't received any of the tax revenue. I'll go back to being Mr. In the good ole USA Mr. out ranks king anyway. I'm pondering that. . .I do  like the sound of King! The least I can do while I'm pondering is to bestow a knighthood on Teddie until we come up with something better! So hence forth and forever he shall be known as Sir Theodore of Overhill, Knight of the Dinner Table.

Beau you shouldn't lose any sleep over the LULAC demonstration at the Astros game last night. They had a total of four protestors turn out. Just before the game started one of them pulled a ticket out of his pocket and went in to watch the game. I guess he doesn't exactly understand what a boycott is.

Beau some of the details in movies always make me wonder. the one you were just watching... I don't know if I've ever seen a hospital orderly with any kind of tool. Also on the subject of easy listening the other night I was listening to I was to a Bobby Darin CD. He was singing songs from the 50's and early 60's. Just great for listening or dancing. Moonlight Serenade is one of the alltime greats.  Still on the same subject have you ever heard any of the recordings of The Buena Vista Social Club . They are a bunch of musicians that were popular in Cuba before Fidel took over. they were organized by an American named Rye Cooder. They have quite a few recordings about. they have a bid band sound witha little Latin influence. Really enjoyable.

If I'm not mistaken the fruit & veggie stand on 34th was operated by the DeMarco family. I think Sandra DeMarco went to Waltrip and was in the Guard. Does anyone else have a recollection?

I knew Rick Bailey back in HS. He was the trainer for the football team at SH. He also played basketball at SH & HBU. I think Rick graduated the year before I did. He met his wife of these many years the first day he enrolled at HBU (HBC in those days). Avie is just as nice as she is pretty. They've sent two sons to HBU and they played basketball too. So Rick's grandson is now playing basketball there. One of  his sons married Troy Holiman's daughter Bethany. Rick has been chairman of the Board of Trustees as well as a Director of Spring ISD. I think they named a MS after him a few years ago . Probably TMI but he's a long time friend.

Now to the important news item, the puppy. Took her to the vet yesterday afternoon. No major health problems but she had fleas, intestinal worms and infected places on her leg. So she is now medicated and we're moving forward. You use the words of Greek fellow I knew years ago, "when I saw her I knew my fate was doomed" We're in the process of selecting a name, She's about six weeks old and seems to be a very enthusiastic eater. I think my initial thought about her being part Lab may be wrong because her feet aren't large. As you can guess, Sugar the cat isn't real thrilled about this turn of events. So I'm having to give her a lot of extra attention. So I'll give you periodic puppy updates.

Keep on dancing,

Rich

Kay, yep Spring ISD named a middle school after Ricky, I think it was in '08. I wasn't able to attend the dedication. Ricky and Avie are as nice a people as you will find. He is one of those guys, that if he tells you something, you can take it to the bank.Nest time I see him I'll mention we went to Waltrip together. It really is a pretty small world (excuse me, whirld).

Burge, my dad was the real deal in any respect you want to talk about. I tell you though it really frosts me when I hear these athletes, mainly pros talk about being warriors, LOL. For heavens sake they're entertainers. It doesn't make any difference whether it was WWII, Korea, Viet Nam or Iraq/Afghanistan the folks who are really warriors are the men and women who fought in those and other encounters. Excellent athletes, yep. . .warriors, not a chance. Just a pet peeve of mine. Looked at your pics again. A cousin of mine was CID in the Army, 30 yr. guy. He's 94, still living in Austin. After he retired from the Army he went with the Secret Service/Presidential Protective. Worked out of Austin on the Ranch Detail. If you were CID in the Marines you saw a different side of lifemy friend.

Burge I'm glad to hear you're buying new underwear! Warren Buffet says one of his barometers of the economy is men's underwear sales. When they start increasing it is a sign that the economy is picking up. Women's not so much. They'll economize on other things but not underwear.

Vaya con dios,

Rich

well i asked for it about my underwear, those are the 'unmentionables'of once upon a day.im glad to know they are an economic indicator, makes me feel better.and jackie,i still love you,i know that you had my best interest at heart.its an economic melt-down.i put them in a safe place;i may keep them as an investment.

Hey I've got an old menu from Bailey's in my collection of old drive in menus. I'll try to get it scanned and put it on the website with the ones from Miller's and Prince's. Still looking for a menu from the Pig Stand if anyone runs across one. Miller's is where the guys went late at night after we'd taken our dates home and the meeting place to go drag race. Pig Stand is where we took our dates.

Burge, there is a columnist/radio commentator named Howard Ruff. He wrote a book years ago called, survigng ruff Times (I think that's it). Last I read Howard is still doing a radio show somewhere. the gist of the book was being prepared for the coming hard times. Having a year's worth of food in the house, having also sort of household necessities because they would either be horrendously expensive or unavailable. This was based on his Mormon faith expanded for TV/radio. He advocated having a lot of things for barter and exchange becasue money would be wothless. Like it was in the Weimar Republic following WWI. I thought it was ironinc that one of his barter items was Scotch whiskey, considering his faith, it also included gold, etc. But I don't think he had underwear on his list. It would probably hold it's value or increase. So you may be the only one with that commodity to barter with.

Beau, I have decided to resend my claim to all the land from Carleen Rd to the western boundary of Harris County. There would just be too many troublesome tenants to deal with. Particularly since the City of Houston and Harris County haven't forked over the tax revenue I requested. You, Coop and Catahoula Jack are back in charge of protecting and defending Cole Crick!

At this point I'm still pondering on whether to relinquish my title of King. As Mel Brooks said in the movie History of the World Part II, "It's good to be King"

For those who are interested the puppy seems to be doing fine. Gaining nergy as the meds work and she gets used to her surroundings. Last night after she had eaten and I was getting my dinner ready I spied he diligently try to pull the threads out of a throw rug by the back door. Thinking that this wouldn't be good for the rug or the dog if she swallowed any I picked it up and put it out of reach. At that point I took the cat her food. When I came back in the pup had gone in the living room and pulled a throw rug (that my old dog used) into the den to replace the one I had just picked up. This is a 6 wk. old pup that might be 2 lbs. Hmm. I may have my hands full here. She woke me up at 4:30 this morning wanting to go out. This is a good thing. Then she wanted food. So then we went back out, my idea and a good one. Then she decided it was playtime. She did finally take a snooze at 5:30, me too. The alarm went off at 6:30. She thought that some more food would be dandy. So as I'm ready to leave for work she is sawing logs again. Resting up for more playtime. Hmmmmm.I'll keep you posted on her.

Have an excellent weekend,

Doggy Dad

yes rich, its good to be king;but remember what shakesphere said about it "uneasy lies the head that wears the crown"i guess its ok to be king for a while.sorry about not being able to explain the inexplicable but it makes my stigmatized brain hurt.i satisfy myself by accepting that i have had a modocum of success.we live in a time of stress and i dont want to make it worse.we all have wonderful memories of oak forest and each of us have had varried experiences since that time.most want to believe the best.in spite what is going on with jihad,im optomistic.

the problem with puppies is they love to chew on things ;especially anything with your scent.sounds like you have a real smart pup there, just dont let him get your cell phone.i lost two to chewing pups.i was determined to be patient with the little critters.they still find things to chew on outside but are ok in the house.

Hey Johnny, it's good to hear from you. Missed you at Fudd's last time. I tell you living in the Oak Forest Ghetto still beats most places. Jackie, Beau and some of the other alums can testify to that. It's about as close to small town living as you can get in a major city. I think it is probbly superior to most small towns.

Burge, old William was probbly right. He was about most things he wrote about. Since I have resended my claim to any land other than 2310 Carleen I'm not too worried. Since I am the King as well as the unwashed rabble. Just an aside on William several years ago I read an article about the economic side of his life. How he was the major share holder in the Globe theater. He wrote and directed a lot of the plays performed.  He also acted in most of them. He was getting a cut of the gate, a royalty on the script, payment for directing and acting. It also made reference to him buying bonds that were payable in gold over and extended period of time. Like an annuity. While everything changes it all stays the same.

I'll keep it in mind about the cell phone. Right now the pup seems to be focusing on the tassels on my shoes and the cuff of my pants. Our country may have its flaws but as far as I'm concerned it's still the best country in the world or whirld.

Our friend Sweet Tater sure picked a hot muggy day to go to the country. He'll be all stove up Sunday but he'll be at OPC ushering. Man is a force in the hood!

See you at Fudd's on Tuesday,

Rich

P.S. All you folks that haven't been to a Fudd's Tuesday try and get there. I think since Sweet Tater Beauregard is incomunicado, we should all take a poll. Send in your vote yes or no, should Sweet Tater perform at Fudds?

Ole Sweet Tater should perform if he feels like it--but I don't want to press him! He was absolutely great at his church a few weeks ago. Thanks, Johnny, for mentioning me as I am typing this at my local library--still without a new computer but I must keep up with the latest forum postings.

BTW, isn't it strange that the state of Arizona is being vilified for simply requiring enforcement of the same laws as mandated by the federal guv'ment regarding illegal persons within our borders??? Where is the irony here people???????

Hey???? Sweet tater here! Didnt make it to the ranch today, cause just got too much to do here! Put a new tool box on the old ford truck! Man, it shrure do shine, and is perty too!! Both my boys came over for lunch and hepped me put the box on the old ford truck! What a great time we have when we get together!!!

Had to mow the yard, vacuum, on my 3rd load o laundry, go to the post office, Plus the pups still seem worn out from Tuesdays foray into the high country wilderness! Richard the LH, you still need to keep your krown! Gotta have a kang!!! Two,  counting King Olaf theo of oak forest!

I would just like to say, that I, Sweet tater Beauregard, Duke o Madame DuBarry st, was UNAWARES OF THE UNDERWARES FACTOR IN THE WHIRLD OF HIGH FINANCE AND ECONOMIC MATTERS!!!!!! And you say, that this only happens when MEN buy unawares????? Does the economy ride up when we manly men buy underwares? Or does the economy droop when we buy underwares??? Why does womens underwares not shape the economy???? Hmmmmmm???? I will endeavor to pontificate this troublesome new developement in the whirld of sweet tater land!!!!!

Mr Deeds is on! The Coop was such a great character; tall, handsome and quiet, just like my Coop! Thats who I named him after!!! Looking forward to elmer fudds next tuesday! Now, about me playing and sangin for youse youts, be glad to do that sometime!! Dont think elmer fudds is a real good place for that venue! I will stand and pose for youse though, so bring your cameras and easels and sketch pads and pastel colorin pencils!!! King Richard the lion heart and king oalf of oak forest will also be there too also, so I'm sure we can all pose for a magnificent mural of Oak Forest Royalty! Queen Jackie...what can be said...A true queen if there ever was one...thank you!!!

...and you mean to tell me that womens underwares dont have any effect on the economy???? Shoot, I garantee you, you dress one o them victoria secret models up in the skimpiest outfits, and she commences to prancin and struttin inside wall street building, somethings going to come up, and or down, economy or whatever! There will be frenzied trading all up and down the street! Bull or Bear??? More like "honeybear" yall!!!!

I dont think I will show you my underwares, unless you got some money for the show!!! I will tell you the brand, "Champion", and I get em at CostCo! Great price too! Socks and tshirt also too! Great price! Hey burge???? You come down to houston, I take you to Cost Co! You would like that store!!! Guess I will sign off for now you all! Got to endeavor to persevere! I'm not a fan of mudbugs, but I guess they will have other stuff! It aint free, but probably for a good cause! You can also test drive a harley of your choice, should you so choose!!!! Dont know when the festivities start, probbablblly about 10 or 11 am!!!

Thinkin thats where I gonna have lunch tomorrow!

oh,onanothernote, the wounded warrior ride on may 21st has been canceled! Just the bike ride, the wounded soldiers will still get to go fishin! Seems that whoever is in charge of the Honor Ride bikers got his panties in a bundle and let his massive ego take over!!! So, all 200 plus riders, that be me and others, been notified of the cancelation! Plus all 27 law enforcement agencies riding shotgun, have to be notified, and the army reserves, and their commanding general gotta be notified, and cancel any thing they had planned! I hear tell, that the word came out of the pentagon that an apache helicopter was also going to escort us down 59 from Bush IAH!!! Aint it amazin how egos get so inflated, and deflate everything else around them!!!! Oh well!!!

Hog 1 is having a texas ride on May 16th! Start at Buccees at 290 and mueschke road, and end at Washington on the Brazos! Might just make that one, or not!!!

My thought was, "they also had a sale on chitlins, but I noticed you didnt get any of those"!!!!! Better not either!!! I like turnips and the turnip greens too, but it just seemed odd that she throw in turnips after 26 years of marriage!!! I guess she wanted to ease into something like that!
